About the MTX Thunder4500 T4512-04
So you want to add a sub to your system, but don't want to lose your life's savings? Allow MTX to introduce you to the world of rip-roaring, affordable bass. The Thunder4500 Series subs have been designed to deliver lots of low-frequency firepower without scorching a hole in your wallet.
The T4512-04 12" subwoofer throws down hardcore bass with a carbon-filled polypropylene cone supported by a treated foam surround. The Asymmetrical Linear Drive System (ALDS) consists of a flat, progressive spider that improves suspension and an extended vented pole piece that smoothes out the cone's linear motion. The result is high output and low distortion.
The voice coil is wound on a high-temperature former to promote high power handling. This versatile sub delivers big bass from virtually any sealed, ported, or bandpass enclosure.

Enclosure Compatibility
Carbon-filled Polypropylene Cone: The woofer cone is made of carbon-filled polypropylene. Carbon adds strength and heat resistance to polypropylene; the result is reduced distortion and improved reliability. In addition, the cone is also very resistant to environmental extremes. The woofer uses a polyether foam surround.
Asymmetrical Linear Drive System (ALDS): The Asymmetrical Linear Drive System consists of a flat, progressive spider that improves suspension and an extended vented pole piece that smoothes out the cone's linear motion. The result is high output and low distortion.
Spider Plateau Venting: Heat from the voice coil is vented through metal-mesh covered vents that surround the back of the spider.
Voice Coil: The voice coil is wound on a high-temperature former to promote high power handling.
Strontium Ferrite Magnet: The strontium ferrite magnet yields a highly efficient speaker.
Recommended Sealed Box Volume: The sealed box sizes recommended by MTX range from 1.0 cu/ft to 1.4 cu/ft. The sealed enclosure MTX highlights on their spec sheet is a 1.2 cu/ft enclosure, so this is the enclosure recommended by Crutchfield.
Recommended Vented Box Volume: MTX recommends two different kinds of vented enclosures, one is optimized for sound quality and one is optimized for high output. The sound quality box sizes recommended by MTX range from 1.75 cu/ft to 2.25 cu/ft. The enclosure MTX highlights on the woofer specification sheet is a 2.0 cu/ft enclosure, so this is the enclosure recommended by Crutchfield. One 4" diameter x 10.25" long port should be used with a 2.0 cu/ft enclosure; a 2.0 cu/ft enclosure with a 4"x 10.25" port has a tuning frequency of 37Hz. The high output box sizes recommended by MTX range from 1.0 cu/ft to 1.4 cu/ft. The enclosure MTX highlights on the woofer specification sheet is a 1.2 cu/ft enclosure, so this is the enclosure recommended by Crutchfield. One 4" diameter x 14" long port should be used with a 1.2 cu/ft enclosure; a 1.2 cu/ft enclosure with a 4"x 14" port has a tuning frequency of 44Hz.
Recommended Single Reflex Bandpass Volume: The bandpass box sizes recommended by MTX range from 1.47 cu/ft to 1.68 cu/ft. The bandpass enclosure MTX highlights on their spec sheet is a 1.56 cu/ft enclosure, so this is the enclosure recommended by Crutchfield. The highlighted bandpass enclosure has a sealed chamber volume of 0.58 cu/ft, a vented chamber volume of 0.88 cu/ft and two 3" diameter x 3.5" long ports. The recommended bandpass enclosure has a tuning frequency of 80Hz.
