Our take on the Infinity Kappa 693.5i

Why replace your car's original speakers?

The speakers that originally came in your car were made from inexpensive materials, designed to create acceptable sound at the lowest possible cost to the manufacturer. If you love music, you deserve better. Name-brand aftermarket speakers deliver fuller, richer sound with considerably more detail and nuance, and they're capable of playing louder and cleaner than factory speakers. Connect new speakers to your factory radio and you'll get the best possible sound from your dealer-equipped system. Pair them up with a new car stereo for a level of enjoyment that can rival a high-fidelity home audio experience.

Infinity's 3-way 693.5i 6"x9" Kappa speakers play your music with astonishing detail and clarity. A Ceramic Metal Matrix Diaphragm (C.M.M.D.) tweeter offers superior stiffness and damping, while the metallic planar EMIT supertweeter further extends high-frequency reproduction to ensure that every last ounce of information is reproduced flawlessly. Computer-optimized crossovers (18 dB/octave, 3,500 Hz), customized to match the 693.5i, keep a pure signal feed flowing to the tweeter and woofer for efficient operation.

The oversized, Plus One C.M.M.D. woofer cone features a lightweight aluminum cone bonded to layers of ceramic, forming a highly durable driver that delivers accurate performance with minimal distortion. The cast-polymer basket and hi-roll rubber surround combine to virtually eliminate unwanted resonances from "coloring" low frequency output.

The 693.5is are efficient enough that you can drive them off your receiver's built-in amplifier. But with one of the highest power handling ratings in their class, they will sound even better when driven by a more powerful outboard amp.

Features

Ceramic Metal Matrix Diaphragm (C.M.M.D.): Infinity's C.M.M.D. technology delivers accurate performance with dramatically reduced distortion for incredibly lifelike sound. Additionally, the C.M.M.D. drivers can withstand extreme temperatures, moisture, humidity and sunlight.

C.M.M.D. Plus One Woofer Cones: These speakers use cones approximately 30% larger than other speakers of the same size. This is accomplished by using a new basket design and hi-roll surround. The Plus One design offers greater bass output and a significant increase in efficiency. In addition, the C.M.M.D. cones virtually eliminate coloration due to cone flexing, resulting in less distortion and superior accuracy.

Surrounds: The hi-roll rubber surrounds allow the woofers a greater range of movement, resulting in longer X-max and more bass output.

C.M.M.D. Dome Tweeters: Each speaker has a 1" C.M.M.D. dome tweeter that offers superior stiffness and damping compared to traditional metal domes.

EMIT Super Tweeters: Each speaker uses a 1-1/8" metallic planar EMIT tweeter for bright, well defined high frequency reproduction.

2-Way Crossovers: These speakers include computer-optimized, voice-matched crossovers. Each crossover features an 18dB/octave, 3.5kHz high-pass network for the tweeter and an 18dB/octave, 3.5kHz low-pass network for the woofer.

Crossover Connections: Each crossover has an 11" input lead terminated with bare wire and two 18" output leads, one for the woofer and one for the tweeter, terminated with female quick-slides. The positive woofer lead has a 0.205" female quick-slide and the negative woofer lead has a 0.110" female quick-slide. The positive tweeter lead has a 0.250" female quick-slide and the negative tweeter lead has a 0.187" female quick-slide. These quick-slides connect directly to the woofer and tweeter terminals on each speaker.

Crossover Dimensions: L=3.458", W=1.734", H=1.087"

Infinity Kappa 693.5i

Written By Anthony, SLC, Utah on Saturday, February 26, 2005

I installed a pair of these Infiniti speakers in two 6x9 boxes behind the seat of my truck. They are being powered by my Panasonic deck (60x4 Max). These speakers sound crystal clear and can hit super hard. I am planing on getting an Infiniti sub because of the quality and performance of these speakers. Until I can purchase it, I am using a feature unique to high end Panasonic decks, SB-SWC, to turn the rear speakers into subwoofers. The clarity is somewhat lessened, however, the Infiniti 3-1/2's in my dash make up for it, and these two 6x9s will shake the rear cab wall, the rear view mirror and the entire back of the seat. You can feel these speakers! When I turned off the SB-SWC, my friend remarked that these were "the clearest, best sounding speakers he had ever heard." I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM. They also come with an excellent 3 YEAR warranty.

Infinity Kappa 693.5i

Written By David, Pensacola, FL on Saturday, February 12, 2005

The best car speakers I've ever heard! These things will blow you away with quality and sound. They sound better (like all speakers do) with an amp hooked up to them, but they will still give you outstanding sound whether you want to crank it up or if you like listening to classical music and want to hear all the instruments. My only caution about these is if you are hooking them up yourself and want an easy installation, then you may have to do some cutting on your car because they are 30% larger than other 6x9's. Was the installation worth the awesome sound? YES most definitely! I have some brand new Sony speakers in my front doors and I wish I had put some Infinity Kappa's in there too. These are home theater quality speakers, a great investment!
