How do I make a copy on VHS tape from my camcorder?

Recording from your camcorder to a VCR is fairly simple if you take the right steps:

  1. Most VCRs provide inputs for audio and video on the front panel for a camcorder hookup.
  2. Activate the "auxiliary" or "line" inputs of the VCR using the VCR's remote, or in the menu of the VCR.
  3. Make sure that the auxiliary/line inputs are set to "front" in the menu of the VCR.
  4. Connect the audio and video outputs of the camcorder to the audio and video inputs on the front panel of the VCR.
  5. Initiate the record mode of the VCR, then the playback mode of the camcorder.
  6. Edit as needed using the pause function of the VCR.
  • If the camcorder has an adapter for an RF cable ,instead of audio and video outputs, the antenna-in jack on the VCR can be used as an alternate connection. Be sure to set the VCR to channel 3 (or 4) instead of selecting the auxiliary inputs!
  • If the VCR does not have front panel inputs, the procedure above can be used for rear panel as well.
