The Onkyo UBT-1 is fitted with a male USB (type-A) connector which plugs into your compatible 2012 Onkyo A/V network receiver's front- or rear-panel USB (type-A) port. The UBT-1 Bluetooth USB Adapter is only compatible with the following 2012 Onkyo A/V network receivers (as of 9/4/2012).

Bluetooth Ver. 3.0 w/ A2DP: The Onkyo UBT-1 Bluetooth USB Adapter is Bluetooth version 3.0 certified. The Onkyo UBT-1 lets you wirelessly stream music from any Bluetooth-enabled device supporting A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) to your compatible Onkyo A/V network receiver. The UBT-1 does not support AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile), so you will need to control your streamed music from your Bluetooth device (not the Onkyo receiver). The UBT-1 is compatible with various Bluetooth-enabled devices; including iPod, iPhone, iPad, and Android.

Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Onkyo UBT-1.

apt-X: The Onkyo UBT-1 Bluetooth USB Adapter is equipped with apt-X, an audio coding technology that works within Bluetooth to wirelessly deliver CD-quality audio from your Bluetooth-enabled device to your compatible Onkyo A/V receiver. A
Most of the time it connects with your mobile equipment after you select it from your equipment USB menu. Ocasionally it does not connect and you need to do the pairing.
julio  Mar 12, 2015
A
No, you only have to pair it once.
james  Mar 12, 2015

It seemed to connect anytime the phone was within range.

I don't have to pair mine every time, however, it can be finicky. I haven't had the best luck with it.

Q
Will this work with denon audio receiver.?
pankaj  Nov 11, 2014

A
This will only work with the Onkyo receivers listed. However, we do have a great product from Harmon Kardon that would likely work for you: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_532BTA10/Harman-Kardon-BTA-10.html

Q
Will this product work with my Onkyo TX-NR509 receiver? If not, is there a similar product that will?
jon  Jul 19, 2014
1 answer
A
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: The Onkyo TX-NR509 is not Bluetooth compatible. The best solution to gain Bluetooth on this receiver (or any receiver with an RCA input!) is the Focal Universal Bluetooth Receiver as listed here: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_091APTXBT/Focal-Universal-Bluetooth-Receiver.html If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will work. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.

Q
can I use this device to send audio out to bluetooth headphones?
philip  Dec 27, 2013

A
I have not attempted to use this Bluetooth adapter to send audio out to Bluetooth headphones. I purchased it to connect to my new Onkyo NR 717 receiver in order to receive music via Bluetooth from my smartphone. As far as i can tell this adapter can only be used as a receiver and not as a transmitter. It works poorly as a receiver of music via Bluetooth from my phone with this receiver so I doubt it works well as a transmitter to Bluetooth enabled headphones. I use this with both a Droid Razr Maxx and a Samsung Stratosphere to send music to my receiver and the range is poor (20 feet max with a clear view). Any obstruction and the music cuts out. In addition, the receiver barely syncs with either. Bluetooth compares poorly with Wi-Fi in my opinion as a method of wireless transfer.

Hello Phillip, I tried to pair my LG HBS-700 Bluetooth head phones and they would not connect. I could see on my phone I was connected to the LG headphones and the Onkyo UBT-1. I tried several times with the phone BT off and re-connection of the UBT-1 and power on & off the LG headphones, but I could not make the phones pair with the receiver. Seems like the Onkyo UBT-1 is a receiver only... but the LG are two way, at least with a microphone. And the Onkyo UBT-1 seems higher priority then the LG. When both are paired the Onkyo makes the sound. You can switch the output on the phone. Not sure if it was the order they connected in. I was in the basement listening to my iphone on the LG and walked up stairs and my son's game stopped Video and Audio as the Onkyo 818 receiver switched over the USB and played what I was listening to over the speakers. It is a good way to connect audio from your phone to the receiver. I am a little surprised the video from the iphone will not play either via BT or the USB wire. Good Luck, Paul F

A
No, you cannot use the UBT-1 to transmit a Bluetooth signal to your headphones. The UBT-1 is only intended to receive a Bluetooth signal not send.

Q
I'm wondering about the option of using a Bluetooth remote with this device. Is that possible, or does it simply stream music? Thanks.
brian  Dec 19, 2013

A
I have used it for streaming only. I checked Onkyo's website and refers to audio steaming only.
julio  Dec 22, 2013
A
As far as I know only streaming from Bluetooth enabled devices. I could listen to Audio files from iPad and Ipod in the Onxyko reciver. I could not listen to audio from the reciver on any Bluetooth connected Headset or Headphones. Vemblaserry.
vemblaserry  Dec 21, 2013
A
The UBT-1 only streams music.
rufus  Dec 20, 2013

Thanks to everyone for all the help! Trying to make a decision on a receiver.
brian  Dec 20, 2013
A
Brian I use it for streaming only. It is ok however tnere are some flaws like it turns the receiver whenever you pass by with a device that is paired with the onkyo. You need to disconnect it. I have not tried it with a remote.
julio  Dec 20, 2013
A
Yes Brian, it can be remote controlled with your phone or tsblet, as long as the receiver you use is compatible. It works perfectly with my 626. I'm veru happy
robert  Dec 20, 2013
A
I don't believe it does, there's an onkyo remote app but I think it only works through the network channel
