Want to play tag with HD Radio and iTunes?

Here's a new feature that's about to be introduced on select HD RadioT receivers: a special "Tag" button that lets you queue up songs you hear on certain HD Radio channels for later purchase through iTunes®.

Here's how it works: as you're listening to a tag-enabled HD Radio channel, press the "Tag" button when you hear a song you want to buy. This saves the song information (but not the song itself) to the radio's memory. When you dock your iPod® to the HD Radio system, the information automatically transfers over. When you sync your iPod to your computer, your tagged selections appear in a list. Then you can preview the songs and purchase them for download to your iTunes library.

The soon-to-be-released Polk I-Sonic® Entertainment System 2 and JBL iHD will both include the Tag button, according to a press release from iBiquity Digital Corporation, the creators of HD Radio. Additional home and car products that offer this feature will debut early next year. Broadcasters who have announced that they are in the process of installing iTunes Tagging technology include CBS Radio, Clear Channel, Cumulus, Cox, Entercom and Greater Media.

Do you think tagging is a great idea? Or a solution in search of a problem? Would you use this feature? Let me know by posting a comment.
