Video: Crutchfield introduces Arcam
Most of the people appearing in our videos are employees at Crutchfield. We pull in folks from around the company to share their expertise. A lot of our on-camera stars come from our Advisor Group — they help people choose the right gear via phone, email and chat every day, so they're good at explaining the products and technologies.
Ringo: Hi. I'm here to tell you about Arcam. It's one of the new vendors we have here at Crutchfield. And they were here about a week ago for a training. We got to spend a lot of time, basically the whole day with them. The one I really liked was the rCube iPod dock. They did a demo where they put it on the table and had two stereo speakers set up, and they actually were playing some music in the background. And they turned it off and said "Do you think that was a wide stereo field?", and we were like "yes." And we thought it was the speakers left and right, and it was actually the rCube. So pretty impressive gear. We're really excited to have them and I think you should really check them out.
Dallas: The Arcam Solo Neo. One of the most impressive things about it for me was the richness and the depth of the sound stage. The mid-range tonal characteristics, which I'm very picky about being a saxophone player and a vocalist and piano player: the vocals were open and airy, the depth of the sound stage, you got that three dimensional sound which you don't normally get out of compressed files. And they had the top off of the box. We were able to look inside and see how well the circuits were laid out and lift it, and it was just a tank.
I also had an opportunity to listen to the Muso speakers. It was actually somewhat of a blind test in that I saw that there were two pairs of speakers at the front of the room. One was a floor standing column speakers, and another pair of small bookshelf speakers on stands. Those were the Musos. And lo and behold, when the trainer walked to the front of the room, he changed to the other speakers and said "Oh by the way, let's compare these to these floor standing columns." And I went "What?" Yeah, that was the Musos. Incredibly impressive speakers: very, very good bass. Yes, the columns have a little bit better bass, but they're also three times bigger. So that was an amazing display of quality from such a small speaker.
