Take gorgeous photos across a wide zoom range
With just a twist of the lens barrel, the HS20EXR's manual zoom instantly takes you from wide-angle landscapes to super 30X close-ups of distant wildlife. Capture long-zoom shots of deer in a field or a bird on a fence post. Or go into Super Macro mode and turn ordinary objects, like flowers or even a raindrop, into extraordinary photos. The 16-megapixel image sensor will pick up on the finest details of your subject, so your images will look sharp and clear with vivid colors. You get "all in one" convenience with this camera, so there are no bulky lenses to carry around, and you don't need to worry about fumbling to change lenses and potentially missing a shot.

Advanced imaging technology produces natural photos
The HS20EXR uses a back-illuminated image sensor, which lets in twice as much light as conventional image sensors. Your photos will look more natural with better coloring and minimal digital "noise" — even when taken in low-light settings. The sensor can switch between High Resolution (HR), Wide Dynamic Range (DR), and High Sensitivity and Low Noise (SN) modes depending on the scene, ensuring that every moment is captured with the highest image quality. Plus, the EXR Intelligent Auto mode uses advanced scene recognition to optimize everything from the sensor mode to aperture and shutter settings, allowing you to concentrate on framing and capturing the moment.

Thoughtful extras to help you get the best shot
The HS20EXR comes loaded with lots of other helpful features, too. Like its high-speed automatic focusing, which will quickly lock on to your subject and even follow it anywhere in the frame. The dual image stabilization greatly reduces the effects of camera shake and subject blur due to an unsteady hand, delivering crisp, clear shots. The LCD screen tilts out to help you catch the action from tricky angles. And if you put your eye to the camera, the "eye sensor" will automatically switch the display from the LCD to the electronic viewfinder for easier framing in bright sunlight.

Fun and flexible options
The face detection mode identifies up to ten faces in your frame and adjusts focus and exposure for better portraits and group shots. You can even make sure your loved ones have priority in each frame by registering their faces (up to eight) in the camera. High-speed continuous shooting allows you to capture up to 8 frames per second at full image resolution, making it easy to catch that perfect shot of your dog on the run. And if you want to take some impressive landscapes, then use the motion panorama mode, which automatically stitches together consecutive shots for easy 360° panoramas of the New York City skyline or the Blue Ridge Mountains.

    Features

30x Zoom Lens: The Fujifilm FinePix HS20 EXR is equipped with f/2.8-5.6 Fujinon lens with a 30x optical zoom to let you get close to your subject. It has a 58mm filter thread so you can add an optional protective filter if you desire.

Note: The HS20 EXR has a manual zoom control.

Swivel LCD Monitor: The HS20 EXR has a 3" color LCD monitor featuring approximately 460,000 dots and approximately 100% horizontal and vertical coverage in the shooting mode. The monitor can be swiveled vertically to allow you to fully view the monitor from extremely high or low angles.

Electronic Viewfinder: In addition to the LCD monitor, the camera has a 0.2" electronic viewfinder with approximately 97% horizontal and vertical coverage. The camera has a sensor that will automatically switch the image from the monitor to the viewfinder when you bring the camera up to your eye.

BSI EXR CMOS Image Sensor: The FinePix HS20 EXR features a new 1/2" BSI (Backside Illumination) EXR CMOS image sensor. This new image sensor can capture not only incredible detail with 16-megapixel resolution, but also up to 1600% wider dynamic range and ISO 12800 sensitivity.

EXR Auto: In the EXR Auto mode, the camera recognizes 10 basic types of scene: Landscape, Night, Macro, Beach, Sunset, Snow, Sky, Greenery, Sky & Greenery, and Auto. It also determines whether or not a person is present, and how much light is available. Assigning one or more of the EXR sensor modes (HR, SN, or DR), the EXR Auto mode optimizes exposure, white balance, focus, color, and tonality accordingly. The shooting data is recorded, so you can search through your photos by scene type, enabling you to find your pictures quickly and easily.

Recording Media: Still images and movies are recorded onto the camera's 20 MB internal memory or optional SD, SDHC, or SDXC memory cards.

Still Image Quality: The FinePix HS20 EXR records still images in JPEG and RAW formats in Large, Medium, and Small sizes in 4:3, 3:2, and 16:9 aspect ratios:

RAW: The camera can record raw, unprocessed image data directly from the image sensor in RAW format. These images can be viewed on a computer using the RAW File Converter application that comes on the included CD-ROM. You can set the camera to RAW+JPEG to record both RAW and JPEG images simultaneously.

Shooting Modes: Using the top-mounted rotary mode dial, you can set the camera to suit your level and style of photography. The shooting mode choices include:

    • EXR: Optimize settings for your current subject or improve clarity, reduce noise, or enhance dynamic range. In the EXR Auto mode, the camera automatically selects the scene and EXR mode according to shooting conditions. In EXR Priority mode, you can select Resolution Priority, High ISO & Low Noise, or D-Range Priority. Dynamic range can be set to 800% or 1600%.
    • Auto: A point and shoot mode recommended for first time users of digital cameras.
    • Advanced: This mode combines point and shoot simplicity with sophisticated photographic techniques.
    • Scene Position 1, 2: You can select a scene suited to the subject or shooting conditions, and save it in SP1 or SP2 memory for quick recall. Available scenes include Natural, Natural Light, Portrait, Portrait Enhancer, Dog, Cat, Landscape, Sport, Night, Night (Tripod), Fireworks, Sunset, Snow, Beach, Party, Flower, and Text.
    • P, S, A, M: Select one of the following exposure modes:
      • Program: The camera sets the shutter speed and aperture according to shooting conditions.
      • Shutter Priority: You select the shutter speed to capture the effect you desire, and the camera automatically sets the aperture according to shooting conditions.
      • Aperture Priority: You select the aperture to capture the depth of field you desire, and the camera automatically sets the shutter speed according to shooting conditions.
      • Manual: You manually set both the shutter speed and aperture for full control over the camera settings.
    • Custom: Lets you store and recall settings for P, S, A, M, and all EXR modes (except EXR Auto).
    • Motion Panorama: You can create sweeping panoramas in this mode by holding down the shutter release while panning. You can select a horizontal or vertical panorama in either direction. The completed panorama can be viewed on the camera.

ISO Sensitivity: You can manually set the camera's sensitivity to ISO 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 3200, 6400, or 12800. The Auto setting will adjust the sensitivity settings according to the shooting conditions. There are 4 automatic settings with a preset maximum sensitivity: Auto 3200, Auto 1600, Auto 800, and Auto 400. The higher the sensitivity setting, the better the camera is at reducing blur in poor lighting conditions, however, high settings can result in more noise in the recorded images.

Film Simulation: The HS20 EXREXR can simulate the effects of different kinds of film, including black-and-white. You can select one of the following options:

    • Provia/Standard: standard color reproduction
    • Velvia/Vivid: a high-contrast palette of saturated colors, suited for nature photos
    • Astia/Soft: a soft-toned palette of less-saturated colors
    • B&W: standard black-and-white
    • Sepia: takes pictures in sepia tone

White Balance: White balance is used to preserve natural colors under different types of lighting. You can select Auto, Direct Sunlight, Shade, "Daylight" fluorescent lamps, "Warm White" fluorescent lamps, "Cool White" fluorescent lamps, Incandescent light, and Custom (set by the camera for the specific lighting for the shot). White balance can be fine tuned, using "WB Shift" option, in a range +3 to -3.

Exposure Compensation: You can alter the exposure from the value suggested by the camera, making pictures brighter or darker. You can adjust the exposure a total of 13 steps from -2.0 to +2.0 EV in 1/3 EV steps. Exposure compensation is available in all modes except Auto, EXR Auto, Manual, and Fireworks.

Continuous Shooting: You can choose one of four continuous shooting modes:

    • Top: Shoots consecutive shots while the shutter button is pressed. You can set the shooting rate at 11, 8, 5, or 3 frames per second, and the number of frames at 4, 8, 16, or 32.
    • Best Frame Capture: The camera shoots a series of consecutive shots at a frame rate at 11, 8, 5, or 3 frames per second. You can also set the number of frames recorded before or after the shutter button is pressed.
    • AE Bracketing: Each time the shutter button is pressed, the camera takes 3 shots: one at the metered value for exposure, the second overexposed by a pre-selected amount, and the third underexposed by the same amount. You can set the bracketing amount to 1 EV, 2/3 EV or 1/3 EV.
    • Film Simulation Bracketing: Each time the shutter button is pressed, the camera takes three shots at different film simulation settings: Provia/Standard for the first, Velvia/Vivid for the second, and Astia/Soft for the third.
    • Dynamic Range Bracketing: Each time the shutter button is pressed, the camera takes three shots at different dynamic range settings: 100% for the first, 200% for the second, and 300% for the third.

Self-timer: The camera gives you the choice of a 10-second or 2-second self timer.

Image Stabilization: The HS20 EXR utilizes CMOS sensor-shift type image stabilization. You can choose whether image stabilization is performed at all times when the camera is in shooting mode (continuous), or only when the shutter button is pressed halfway (shooting only). You can turn off image stabilization when using a tripod.

Auto Focus Area: The FinePix HS20 EXR offers four auto focus area selections: Center (focuses on the central area), Multi (focuses on the center of the screen), Area (lets you change the position on the screen where the camera focuses), and Tracking (the camera tracks the subject within the frame). When focusing manually, the focusing ring used to move the focus closer or farther away.

Focus Modes: You can choose from the following focus modes:

    • Single: The camera focuses only when the shutter button is pressed halfway--good for stationary subjects.
    • Continuous: The camera continually focuses--choose for moving subjects.
    • Manual: You can focus manually using the focus ring on the lens.

Focus Range: The focus ranges according to shooting mode are as follows:

    • Normal:
      • 1.6' to infinity (wide angle)
      • 9.8' to infinity (telephoto)
    • Macro:
      • 0.3' to 9.8' (wide angle)
      • 6.6' to 16.4' (telephoto)
    • Super Macro: 0.4" to 3.3'

Super-Intelligent Flash: The FinePix HS20 EXR has a built-in, manual pop-up flash with a range of 1' to 23.3' (Wide) and 6.6' to 12.5' (Telephoto). The Super-Intelligent Flash system instantly analyzes the scene based on such factors as the brightness of the subject, its position in the frame, and its distance from the camera. Flash output and sensitivity are adjusted for correct exposure. Red-eye removal minimizes the "red-eye" effect, and is available for each flash mode. You can choose from the following flash modes:

    • Auto: flash fires automatically as required by the shooting conditions
    • Forced Flash: flash will fire whenever a picture is taken
    • Slow Synchro: auto flash combined with slow shutter speeds (tripod recommended)
    • Flash Off: You can close the pop-up flash when flash photography is prohibited, or to capture natural lighting under dim light.

Flash Brightness Adjustment: The intensity of the flash can be adjusted to suit the photography conditions or to achieve a desired effect. You can adjust the flash in 5 steps from -2/3 EV to +2/3 EV in 1/3 EV increments.

Optional External Flash: The HS20 EXR has a hot shoe that allows you to add an optional external flash unit, such as the Fujifilm EF20 (072EF20) or EF42 (072EF42).

Intelligent Face Detection: When Face Detection is On, the camera automatically detects human faces anywhere in the frame and sets the focus and exposure for shots that emphasize portrait subjects. This mode will prevent the camera from focusing on the background when taking group portraits or self portraits.

Light Metering: When Face Detection is off, you can select one of three Metering modes:

    • Multi: light metering where the camera automatically assesses the scene and selects the optimum exposure
    • Spot: light metering where the exposure is optimized for the center of the image
    • Average: light metering where an average value for the entire image is used

Voice Memos: You can add voice memos of up to 30 seconds each to still images. The voice memos are recorded in the WAV format. During playback, you can pause/resume, stop, fast-forward and rewind the voice memos.

Viewing Images: Images can be played back one-at-a-time or in a variety of multi-frame views. Multi-frame options include a 5-frame cascading display (two previous and two following frames cascaded behind the highlighted image), a side-by-side two-frame display (with smaller thumbnails of the previous and next frames, 9-image grid (3 x 3) and a 100-image grid (10 x 10) of micro-thumbnails. In the 9- and 100-image grid views, the highlighted image is slightly enlarged.

Playback Zoom/Trimming: You can enlarge a still image in the monitor according to the image quality (size). After you have zoomed in and scrolled the picture to the desired composition, you can create a cropped image of a picture. Copies are saved at Medium, Small, or 640, depending upon the size of the original, and will have an aspect ratio of 4:3. The cropped copy will be saved as a separate file.

    • Red Eye Removal: Reduces the red-eye in flash photos if detected
    • Protect: Protect selected pictures from accidental deletion
    • Crop: Create a cropped copy of the current picture
    • Resize: Create a small copy of the current picture
    • Image Rotate: Rotates pictures taken in tall orientation so they are displayed properly in the LCD monitor
    • Copy: Copy pictures from the internal memory to a memory card.
    • Voice Memo: Record a voice memo of up to 30 second
    • Erase Face Recognition: Removes face recognition links from the current image

Printing Pictures: Using DPOF (Digital Print Order Form), you can designate which images to print, and whether to print them with or without date. Pictures can be printed as followed:

    • Printer or Photo Lab: plug the camera into a Pictbridge-compatible printer, insert the memory card into a compatible printer, or take the memory card to a digital photo lab
    • Transferring to Computer: transfer the images to a computer before printing them

Power Requirements: The FinePix HS20 EXR is equipped with 4 "AA" alkaline batteries. The supplied batteries provides power for shooting approximately 350 frames. Rechargeable Ni-MH batteries are good for approximately 400 shots at full charge, while Lithium batteries provide enough battery life for up to 700 frames. The camera can be operated on household current when used with the optional AC-5VX AC adapter and CP-04 DC coupler.

Auto Power Off Function: When the camera is operated on battery power, the Auto Power Off function will automatically turn off the LCD monitor to reduce the drain on the batteries if no operations are performed for 2 minutes or 5 minutes, as set in the menu.

    Inputs and Outputs Notes
