Features

Overview: The Pioneer CD-IU201S iPod interface cable permits direct control, audio/video playback, advance app mode, information display, and charging of your iPod/iPhone through select Pioneer multimedia head units. A compatible Pioneer multimedia head unit can be connected with an iPod/iPhone via this dedicated adapter by attaching the cable's USB type-A and proprietary RGB connector to the head unit's rear-panel USB and proprietary RGB ports, and plugging the cable's dock connector into your iPod/iPhone's dock connection.

iPod/iPhone Control: The CD-IU201S lets you control your iPod/iPhone from the head unit's touchscreen or from the iPod/iPhone's touchscreen or clickwheel.

  • Head Unit: From the head unit, you can search your iPod/iPhone's audio/video content by Video Playlist, Movie, Music Video, Video Podcast, TV Show, Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, Podcast, Genre, Composer, or Audiobook (your iPod/iPhone's clickwheel or touchscreen will be locked). Once you have selected a category, you can search each category alphabetically (A-Z). In addition, the head unit offers Link Search, which allows you to play songs related to the currently playing song. Link Search lets the head unit create an album list of the currently playing artist, a song list of the currently playing album, or an album list of the currently playing genre. You can also select Random & Repeat functions for a certain song or specific folder.
  • Passenger Control: The Passenger Control mode allows you to navigate stored audio/video content from your connected iPod/iPhone's clickwheel or touchscreen. This is very useful for the person riding in your passenger seat.

Compatible Pioneer Head Units: The Pioneer CD-IU201S iPod adapter supports the following Pioneer multimedia head units (as of 11/13/2012).

  • AVH-P: 8400BH
  • AVH-X: 2500BT, 3500BHS, 4500BT, 5500BHS, 8500BHS

Advanced App Mode: Using the Pioneer CD-IU201S cable to connect the Pioneer multimedia head unit to your iPhone 4/4S (iOS 4.2+) loaded with Pioneer's free AppRadio application from iTunes, you can enjoy full on-screen access and control of your contacts, calendar, maps, and more with an intuitive interface, formatted and designed specifically for safer in-vehicle operation. Pioneer has teamed up with app providers to offer compatibility with many of today's most popular in-vehicle apps, while also developing an expanding catalog of compatible apps for future use that can be easily & seamlessly added.

iPod/iPhone Display: When connected via the Pioneer CD-IU201s cable, your compatible Pioneer multimedia head unit will display your iPod/iPhone's stored music file information, as well as metadata from Pandora, Aha Radio, and Advance Apps; including Track number, Folder number, Elapsed playing time, Song/Album title, Artist name, and Album art. There is no music information displayed when this unit is set to 'basic App mode'. Instead, all music information will be displayed on your iPod/iPhone's LCD screen.

iPod/iPhone Charging: The CD-IU201S lets you charge your iPod/iPhone when connected to the head unit's USB (type-A) port. This cable will charge the Apple iPad.

iPod/iPhone Compatibility Chart: The Pioneer CD-IU201S cable is "Made for iPod/iPhone" compatible and supports the following iPod/iPhone model functions (as of 9/27/2013):

Q
Has anyone got the App Mode working while the phone is locked? Every time I lock my phone the App Mode disconnects too unlike when using iPod mode where you can lock screen and music still plays.

A
In order for the head unit to pull info from the phone it needs to have it opened and show that app mode screen or else it will not work kinda like when you use pandora it changes to the black pandora screen and then you can control pandora through the radio same thing

Will this allow hand held selection/searching of songs or can you only select songs from the head unit itself?

This cable will allow you to select songs and most other functions from your phone. It also charges your phone while attached.
greg m  Apr 28, 2014

Ye... You can absolutely use your handheld device for song selection! As well as from the head unit or it's remote.
stephen d  Apr 28, 2014
A
I select songs from from both
scot  Apr 27, 2014
A
I just double checked, once connected, you can only use the head unit to control the iPod.

Q
Can you use a lightning adapter to use to view video from iPhone 5?
doug  Mar 05, 2014
3 answers
A
No. There's a firmware upgrade required to actually get compatibility with iPhone five. And a new set of cables is required also have been looking into it. I noticed the tagging does not work with iPhone five as it did with iPhone 4. Go to the pioneer website and check out the model number of your unit
shawn  Mar 07, 2014
A
Yes. I bought this reciever when I had an iPhone 4S then since have upgraded to the 5S purchased the lighting converter and everything works like a champ no diff.
chuck  Mar 05, 2014
A
No. You will have to buy a driftnet kit and you will have to do a firm wear update.

Q
Will I be able to see and access my AppRadio apps on the screen of the radio using this cable?
beatrice  Feb 16, 2014

A
Yes and any video content from your iOS device, but remember your radio must be specially grounded to view any video formats. Many people ground to the handbrake or install a switch/button to their dash or console.
garrett  Feb 19, 2014
A
Yes you will be able to access it. It works better if you have a Iphone
damont  Feb 18, 2014
A
Yes. AppRadio Apps will work. Cable is well made and reliable, however it is heavy duty and is too thick to fit through the opening of a Life proof case.
jeffrey  Feb 17, 2014
A
I have not been able to access my apps using an iphone 4s. I self installed, so this could be the issue. Extensive internet research shows that the app function should work with any phone. So to answer your question, it doesn't work for me, but should.

Q
Will this cable work with a LifeProof case on the iPhone 4S?
smhogan  Dec 30, 2013

A
yes, but you will need to get an extender.
erich  Jan 02, 2014
A
Unfortunately I can't give you an educated answer on this, I didn't have a LifeProof case. I can't picture it working though. I have an iPod with the typical thin cover and I have to uncover the port to allow the connection to fully seat. I would think the LifeProof case is way thicker that the soft case on my iPod, which wouldn't allow the connection to fully seat into the iPhone.
mark  Dec 31, 2013
A
The 30 pin connection is approximately 1/8 inch wider on all sides than the iPhone slot. If the opening on the LifeProof case is at least that much larger, it should work.
mitchell  Dec 31, 2013
A
Sorry, but I don't use the case that you are inquiring about.
scott a  Dec 30, 2013
A
No it will not
bertha  Dec 30, 2013
A
Put simple yes and no. Yes it will fit but because of the case you really have to push in, BUT it seems road vibration does at times allow it come loose. Works better with the Otterbox than Lifeproof version.
gordon l.  Dec 30, 2013
A
I'm not familiar with that case so I'm not sure if it will work. I have an iPhone 4S with an otter box commuter case and it works just fine. The plug in is pretty much the same size as the iPhone 30 pin, just slightly thicker. But the plug size is the same. I hope that helps you.
christian  Dec 30, 2013
A
No it will not. I had a life proof case also when I bought the unit but had to switch to one with a larger opening at the charger for it to fit. It was just a pain having to take the case off every time I got in the car.
roger  Dec 30, 2013
A
Unfortunately it won't. But then again no cable does except the Apple supplied one. I end up taking my case off. I have the 4 and wife the 4S and both use that case. Wish they made a connector like they did for the headphones.
alexander  Dec 30, 2013
A
I don't think this cable will connect if you have a large case such as the LifeProof case. I solved this by removing the case entirely. The connection is very solid and you can even pick up the phone and look at it by holding the cable. I am very pleased with the interface and the Pioneer software easily picks up the iPhone input and plays anything you have in queue. So if you can part with your case, this is definitely a solid cable and a good buy. When I eventually upgrade my 4s phone to a 5s or a 6, I will experiment with one of those $30 adapters that Apple sells from a 30 pin to the smaller set.
ryan  Dec 30, 2013
A
I have an Otter box case, and it works fine. The connector end is the same size as my Iphone charger, so I would guess that if your charger works with your Lifeproof case, then you should be ok.
