About the Alpine S2-W12D4
Great bass for less
Great bass for less
For the best in bass, you need the best in materials and engineering. Alpine's redesigned Next-Generation S-Series subwoofers apply technology from their higher end subs to bring you the depth and punch that'll make your tunes come alive. With high-tech materials and Alpine know-how, these subs deliver the lows you crave at a budget-friendly price.
Redesigned for better sound
The S-W12D4 12" sub handles up to 600 watts RMS, so you can drive it hard without any worries. The redesigned cone combines carbon fiber and polypropylene for light weight and sturdiness, while its rubber High Amplitude Multi-Roll (HAMR) surround enables maximum excursion for impressive performance. Handy jumpers make it simple to switch from 2-ohm to 8-ohm impedance to adapt to your system. This sub is equally suited for ported and sealed boxes, so you can enjoy your bass big and boomy or tight and precise. A twist-lock mounting system makes it easy to add one of Alpine's specially-designed speaker grilles (sold separately).

Features
Progressive Spider: The progressive spider has reinforced layer tinsel leads to ensure reliable and consistent control of the tinsel leads and eliminate any mechanical noise or interference often seen in high excursion cone designs.
Compound Radius Curve Pole Geometry: Alpine's Patented Compound Radius Curve extended pole geometry ensures a symmetrical magnetic field, while optimizing flux density to reduce distortion and further improve power handling and output.
Dual Voice Coils: For system flexibility, the woofer has two 4Ω voice coils. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 2Ω load. When the voice coils are wired in series, the woofer presents an 8Ω load.
Spring Terminals: The spring post terminals are all located on one side of the woofer. The terminals will accept pin connectors, single banana plugs, or bare wire up to 8-gauge.
Jumpers: Included with the woofer are two voice coil terminal jumpers. These jumpers allow you to easily wire the voice coils in parallel (for a 2Ω load) or series (for an 8Ω load).
Enclosure:
- Sealed Box: Alpine recommends a sealed enclosure with an internal volume between 0.61 and 1.06 cubic feet, with an ideal volume of 0.85 cubic feet. Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer, will handle a lot of power, and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music.
- Ported Box Volume: The recommended ported box volume ranges from 1.06 cubic feet to 1.56 cubic feet, with the ideal size being 1.51 cubic feet, using a slot port measuring 12½" (W) x 1" (H) x 16" (L).

These are the best shallow mount subwoofers you can get, only 5" of depth needed and actually have a great XMAX.
