About the MTX Amplified ThunderForms

John Pollard
Crinkled french fries, discarded receipts, old gum wrappers — you probably have everything in the hidden corners of your vehicle except great bass. ThunderForm enclosures fill the nooks and crannies of your vehicle with low tones that stand out, but their factory look blends right in.

Crinkled french fries, discarded receipts, old gum wrappers — you probably have everything in the hidden corners of your vehicle except great bass. ThunderForm enclosures fill the nooks and crannies of your vehicle with low tones that stand out, but their factory look blends right in.

MTX engineers evaluate the "sonic signatures" of top-selling vehicles so they can design ThunderForms as custom acoustic matches. Each ThunderForm fits and blends inconspicuously into your vehicle, so you get great bass without losing any space. They're made of high-density polyethylene resin to curb resonances — they deliver bass that's tight, hard-hitting, and way down low. The airtight enclosure provides the correct internal volume to yield optimum bass response.

This molded MTX ThunderForm comes loaded with two premium-quality 10" Terminator subwoofers modified especially for amplified Thunderforms, with a specially-designed amp that puts out 200 watts of power. It fits behind the rear seat of your 1997-06 Jeep Wrangler. The enclosure is seamless and airtight, with the correct internal volume to yield optimum bass response from the subwoofers. Hardware is included.

Product Research

Features

Vehicle-Specific Custom Enclosure: This MTX ThunderForm enclosure is specifically designed to fit select 1997-2006 Jeep Wranglers. Please refer to the Crutchfield Car Selector to confirm fit for your vehicle.

Enclosure: The ThunderForm enclosure is made of molded high-density polyethylene resin, which dampens resonance and is rigid enough to resist flexing. It is an acoustic suspension (sealed) chamber.

Mounting Location: This enclosure is designed to mount behind the rear seat. The rear seat will still fold/flip. Note: The provided dimensions are taken at the widest points of the enclosure. Keep in mind that these enclosures are custom made to fit in this particular vehicle, so the enclosure will fit properly in only one specific location.

10" Terminator Subwoofers: This enclosure comes loaded with two 10" MTX Terminator subwoofers. The woofers have an unusual impedance, specifically designed for the built-in amp, and cannot be replaced with standard MTX models.

Class D Amplifier: The enclosure contains a built-in 200-watt Class D (digital) amplifier that allows RCA or speaker-level input. The amplifier is highly efficient and designed specifically for use with the subwoofers in the enclosure.

Electronic Bass Control (EBC): The EBC is a wired remote and allows you to adjust the bass level from anywhere in the vehicle. Installing the EBC is optional.

Low-pass Crossover: The low-pass crossover point is adjustable from 50 to 150 Hz for a seamless transition between the output of this unit and that of the other speakers in the vehicle.

Controls:

  • Gain Control: rotary control; set the gain of the amplifier is match the input
  • Crossover Control: rotary control; adjust the crossover from 50 to 150 Hz

Auto Turn-On Feature: When speaker level inputs are used, the system will automatically turn on and off with the radio.

Note: The auto turn-on feature does not operate when preamp level inputs are used, connecting the remote turn-on lead is required.

Tools Required: The manual provides this list of required tools:

  • Powered Screwdriver
  • Phillips Head Screwdriver
  • 6" Bit Extension

Customer Q&A

Q
Would these speakers be weatherproof at all?

A
Keith, as far as I know they aren't weatherproof. If you have a soft top it covers it pretty well when its down. I've had the top down in light rain and never had the speakers get wet. Hope this helps.

Q
Is there any drilling required, or does install using predrilled holes in the body?

Hi Matt, The unit you have will fit between the seat and the rear door. I bought the same one for my Jeep and it fits perfectly. Technically, since the seat back angles back to the tailgate you can probably drive all you want without having to bolt this down. But if you have no carpet in back, or you want to make sure it cannot move, then you can attach it to the floor. There are many options for this. Since there is about 2 inches or so between the floor base and the rear gas tank, you can drill through the floor (carefully) and use large, but short, sheet metal screws to anchor the unit. you can also use Pop Rivets - the big ones if you have them. there are also Blind Nuts that you can install. You can find them at Fastenol or many Jeep shops. They basically are placed in a hole and you expand the base by screwing in a bolt with a nut and washer on it so that is cases the nut to expand in the hole. This is a great unit. I would install it. But if you have carpet, and do not plan on flipping your keep over, then placing it between the seat and rear door will work. it is a very good fit and works great. hope that helps -
