    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth Technology: The FH-X700BT is equipped with built-in Bluetooth ver. 3.0 (powered by Parrot), allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. Bluetooth Technology is a short-range wireless radio connectivity technology that was developed as a cable replacement for mobile phones and other electronic devices. Bluetooth operates in 2.4 GHz frequency range and transmits voice and data at speeds up to 1 megabit per second.

Bluetooth Profiles: In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP (Hands Free Profile), HSP (Head Set Profile), OPP (Object Push Profile), PBAB (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).

Secure Simple Pairing (SPP): With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the FH-X700BT without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings (your phone must also support SSP). When a registered Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the receiver, the auto connection function automatically pairs the two units. Up to 3 Bluetooth-compatible devices can be registered to this head unit. Only one device can be used at a time. Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Pioneer FH-X700BT.

Hands-Free Communication: The FH-X700BT supports wireless hands-free communication (HFP/HSP/OPP/PBAB) for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. The head unit will display the caller's information and an audible ring tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker during an incoming call. You can manually answer an incoming call or have the unit automatically answer the call. The FH-X700BT allows you to carry on a phone conversation from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone using the head unit's external microphone and your car audio speakers. During a conversation you can adjust the volume, as well as switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode. Using the FH-X700BT, you can dial a phone number in one of the following ways:

    • Speed (Preset) Dialing: You can easily store up to six phone numbers as presets for speed dialing.
    • Phone Book: The phone book in your Bluetooth enabled cellular phone will be transferred automatically when the phone is paired to this unit. After finding the number you want to call in the phone book from the head unit, you can select the entry and make the call. If a lot of numbers are registered in the phone book, you can search for a phone number by the contact person's name alphabetically (A-Z).
    • Call Log: The most recent calls dialed, received, and missed are stored in memory. You can browse them and call numbers from these lists.

External Microphone: During your wireless phone call, you can talk into the head unit's included external microphone, and listen to the other party through the vehicle's speaker system. The external microphone provides better performance in noisy environments than the integrated microphone found on the front-panel of many aftermarket or factory radios. The microphone features a 13' cord that plugs into the back of the radio, and comes with an adjustable visor-mount clip. The microphone measures 0.475" (diameter) x 1.445" (depth). The unit is not equipped with an integrated microphone.

Wireless Audio Streaming: The Pioneer FH-X700BT also supports wireless audio playback (AD2P) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth enabled audio player or smartphone. The head unit can stream music stored on your Bluetooth enabled device or music apps you have downloaded on your device. The FH-X700BT will be able to control basic playback features; Play, Pause, & Skip Tracks (app must also support). The head unit will also display your music's song information; such as Artist name and Song/Album title (app must also support). When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call.

Voice Recognition for iPhone: The Pioneer FH-X700BT also supports voice recognition for a Bluetooth-connected iPhone. When in Bluetooth mode, simply press-and-hold the head unit's 3-way rotary dial to activate the voice recognition function. You can then talk into the head unit's external microphone to access music & phone voice commands of your iPhone.

    USB/iPod/Aux Connection

Front-Panel USB Input: The unit's front-panel USB (type-A) port allows you to connect a USB Mass Storage Class (MSC) compliant device; such as your Android smartphone, portable digital audio player, or USB thumbdrive. Your USB MSC compliant device must be formatted in FAT 12/16/32. The unit can play back MP3 (8-320kbps)/WMA (48-320kbps) audio files stored on a USB device. It can also play back WAV (8/16-bit, 16/48kHz) audio files. Up to 8 directories, 500 folders, and 15000 files per USB device are recognized by this unit. In addition, the unit is compatible with ID3 Tags and will display artist, folder, file, and album name. USB portable audio players that can be charged via USB will be charged when plugged into the CD receiver's USB port (1A) and the vehicle's ignition switch is set to ACC or On.

Note: This unit cannot recognize USB devices via a USB hub.

iPod Direct Connection w/ DAC Bypass: The Pioneer FH-X700BT's front-panel USB port can be used to connect your iPod/iPhone to the head unit, via Pioneer's dock connector-to-USB cable (130CDIU51, sold separately) or the dock connector-to-USB cable which comes with your iPod/iPhone. The FH-X700BT supports audio playback, music navigation, information display, and charging of your compatible iPod/iPhone. The USB connection allows your iPod/iPhone's stored music to be loaded instantly to the head unit and sound quality to be maximized through the head unit's 24-bit D/A converter, allowing for a Signal to Noise ratio up to 94dB. The Pioneer head unit supports audio playback of music, podcasts, audiobooks, and music apps stored on your iPod or iPhone. The head unit will display your iPod/iPhone's stored music file information, including - Track number, Folder number, Elapsed playing time, Song title, Artist name, and Album title. The head unit's USB connection provides 1A of current to power and charge your connected iPod/iPhone when your vehicle's ignition switch is set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position (if your iPod/iPhone has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it. You can choose to operate your iPod/iPhone through the head unit's front-panel controls, from its clickwheel/touchscreen, or via a streamed app from your iPhone.

    • Head Unit: From the head unit, you can browse your iPod/iPhone's music library by Artist, Album, Song, Genre, Playlist, Composer, Podcast, or Audiobook (your iPod/iPhone's clickwheel or touchscreen will be locked). Once you have selected a category, you can search each category alphabetically. In addition, the head unit offers Link Search, which allows you to play songs related to the currently playing song. Link Search lets the head unit create an album list of the currently playing artist, a song list of the currently playing album, or an album list of the currently playing genre. You can also select Random & Repeat functions for a certain song or specific folder.
    • iPod: In iPod mode, you can navigate the stored music on your iPod/iPhone from its clickwheel or touchscreen, while still viewing song/artist information on the head unit's LCD.
    • App Mode: App mode lets you listen to your favorite music apps, such as iHeartRadio, SiriusXM, Rhapsody, & Slacker from your iPhone (iOS 3.0+) through the Pioneer head unit and your vehicle's speakers. Not all apps will be compatible with App Mode and App Mode will provide only limited (basic), if any, control over the app. Available controls may include: Play/Pause & Skip Previous/Next. There is no music information displayed when this unit is set to 'App Mode'. Instead, all music information will be displayed on your iPod/iPhone's LCD screen. The head unit's LCD will only display the text - 'App Mode'.
Note: If you have an iPod nano (7th gen), iPod touch (5th gen), or iPhone 5; use the Lighting-to-USB cable that came with your Apple device to connect to the head unit.

Pandora App: The free Pandora App lets you play music from the Pandora music service through the Pioneer FH-X700BT using your connected Apple iPhone, via the Pioneer CD-IU51 iPod connector cable (sold separately) or the USB/iPod dock cable that came with your iPhone. To access Pandora you must have an Apple iPhone 2G/3G/3GS (iOS 3.0+), iPhone 4 (iOS 4.0+), iPhone 4S (iOS 5.0+), or iPhone 5 (iOS 6.0+) with the latest version of the Pandora Radio application from Apple's iTunes App Store. Your iPhone will need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, or WiFi. You will also need a Pandora music service account. The Pioneer FH-X700BT will provide control over the Pandora music service and display Artist/Album/Song information.

    • Station List: You can select Pandora stations from your Station List by date or alphabetically (A-Z).
    • QuickMix: QuickMix allows you to listen to songs played on one or more Pandora stations in your Station List randomly. You will need to edit your QuickMix station selections on the iPhone before connection.
    • Skip Songs: You can skip song tracks within a station. You cannot skip back to a previous song. Pandora limits the number of skips allowed.
    • Thumbs Up/Down: You can give songs a thumbs up or thumbs down to help Pandora personalize stations to suit your preferences.
    • Bookmarking: The song/artist currently being played can be bookmarked & stored in your Pandora account.

MIXTRAX: Drawing from Pioneer's rich DJ heritage and passion for music, MIXTRAX delivers a unique DJ infused listening experience to listeners in the car. MIXTRAX is an innovative Pioneer technology that creates a non-stop mix of your music library complete with a range of DJ-inspired effects. MIXTRAX is compatible with USB-connected iPhone, iPod, USB MSC device, and select Android devices. There is also a Short Playback option which limits the amount of time each track plays; select from 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, or 3 minutes.

Note: The MIXTRAX function does not work in App mode or with the Pandora App for iPod/iPhone/iPad.

Auxiliary Input: The FH-X700BT is equipped with a front-panel 3.5mm stereo minijack auxiliary input for connecting external components, such as a portable MP3 player.

    Disc Playback

Compatible Discs: The Pioneer FH-X700BT supports playback of CD-Audio, CD-R, and CD-RW discs.

MP3/WMA Playback: This unit can play MP3 and WMA files recorded on CD-R and CD-RW discs in ISO9660 Level 1/Level 2, Joliet, and Romeo formats. MP3 files with a bit rate from 8-320 kbps, WMA files with a constant bit rate from 48-320 kbps, and WMA files with a variable bit rate from 48-384 kbps are supported. The unit is compatible with ID3 Tags and will display artist, folder, file, and album name. Up to 8 directories, 99 folders and 999 files per disc are recognized by this unit.

WAV File Playback: The FH-X700BT offers playback of audio WAV files recorded onto CD-R and CD-RW discs. The head unit supports 8-bit and 16-bit LPCM (Linear PCM) WAV files with a sampling frequency between 16 to 48 kHz.

File/Track Name List: The Name List feature displays a list of MP3/WMA folders and tracks on a loaded CD or connected USB device, so you can easily access your music.

Off Insert/Eject: A CD disc can be inserted or ejected with the power off. When a disc is inserted with the power off, the unit will automatically power up and begin playback.

Installation Angle: Optimum CD playback performance is obtained when the unit is installed at an angle of less than 60-degrees.

    Audio Section

24 Bit D/A Converter: The Pioneer in-dash head unit utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The FH-X700BT is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit. The power specifications for the FH-X700BT are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers.

    • CEA2006 Specs: 14 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Continuous Power Output: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 50Hz-15kHz, 5% THD)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels

Advanced Sound Retriever: The Advanced Sound Retriever automatically enhances compressed audio and restores the original richness of the recording. Hear the detail, warmth, and clarity, the way the artist intended it, from all of your highly compressed MP3 and WMA files stored on your USB device, iPod/iPhone, and portable media players. By restoring data (especially higher frequencies) that tends to get lost in the digital compression process, Pioneer's Advanced Sound Retriever technology enhances audio reproduction nearly all the way up to 20 kHz frequencies

Equalizer: The Pioneer FH-X700BT features a Preset & Custom EQ. The built-in equalizer offers 7 preset sound modes (Powerful, Dynamic, Vocal, Natural, Custom 1, Custom 2, and Flat) suitable for the music genre of your choice. The two Custom modes allow you to manually adjust the head unit's 5-band EQ (80Hz, 250Hz, 800Hz, 2.5kHz, 8kHz) from +/-6dB. Custom 1 can be set separately for each source (except for USB/iPod/Pandora); while Custom 2 and the other 5 presets are shared settings used for all sources.

Bass Boost The FH-X700BT features a bass boost function which can be used to enhance low-frequency bass sound. The bass boost function can be set between 0-6.

Loudness: The Loudness feature compensates for deficiencies in the low and high sound ranges at low volume. You can set the Loudness feature to Low, Mid, High, or Off.

Source Level Adjustment (SLA): This function lets you adjust the volume level of each source to prevent radical changes in volume when switching between sources. Settings are based on the volume level of the FM tuner, which remains unchanged. Each source can be independently adjusted from -4dB to +4dB.

4ch/2V Preamp Outputs: The Pioneer FH-X700BT features two pair of 2.0-volt preamp outputs. The unit's rear preamp outputs can be configured as fading rear-channel outputs or a non-fading subwoofer outputs with a low-pass filter, phase adjustment, and output level control.

Subwoofer Control: When the head unit's preamp output is configured as a subwoofer output, you can select the frequency of the low pass filter (50Hz, 63Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, or 125 Hz), select the filter slope (-6/-12dB), select the subwoofer phase (normal/reverse), and the subwoofer gain (+6 to -24).

High-Pass Crossover: When you don't want low-frequency sound to be heard through your front or rear speakers, you can simply active the head unit's HPF (high pass filter). By activating the HPF, only frequencies higher than those in the selected range are output from the front or rear speakers. The high pass filter crossover can be set to 50Hz, 63Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, 125Hz, 160hz, 200Hz or Off. The slope level of the HPF can also be adjusted to -6dB or 12dB.

Switchable Rear Channel/Subwoofer Speaker Output: The rear speaker outputs can be set to provide full range output with full fading capability, or they can be set to provide non-fading subwoofer (low-pass) output. When the rear speaker outputs are set to subwoofer mode, the rear preamp outputs also switch from full range to subwoofer outputs. When set for subwoofer operation, you can connect the rear speaker leads directly to two small 4-ohm passive subwoofers or a dual voice coil sub with 4-ohm voice coils. If you prefer to use a single 2-ohm subwoofer, you can connect the woofer to one set of speaker leads, leaving the other set of rear leads disconnected. The maximum output provided when a 2-ohm load is connected to one set of leads is 70 watts.

    Radio Functions

Supertuner IIID AM/FM Tuner: The Supertuner IIID features Feed Forward Control, which avoids multi-path interference. This pre-detection of interference enables quick filter control and results in less distortion. In addition, the Supertuner IIID creates enhanced stereo during multi-path interference, unlike conventional tuners that collapse to mono. Digital processing reduces distortion, and improves Signal-to-Noise Ratio and stereo separation. Advanced analog technology improves signal processing sensitivity.

RDS: The Radio Data System (RDS) feature displays radio broadcast information such as artist, title, and album when listening to compatible AM/FM stations.

BSM (Best Stations Memory): The BSM (Best Stations Memory) function lets you automatically store the six strongest stations under preset buttons 1-6 of the currently tuned band. The tuner has 3 FM banks and 1 AM bank. You can store 6 presets for each bank giving you a total of 18 FM presets and 6 AM presets.

Local Tuning: Local seek tuning lets you tune in only those radio stations with sufficiently strong signals for good reception. There are 4 levels of sensitivity for FM and two levels for AM. The higher settings allow reception of only the strongest stations, while lower settings let you receive progressively weaker stations.

    Display Features

Multi-Line Display: The Pioneer FHX700BT features a multi-line, multi-segmented LCD with LED backlight to display CD-Text, MP3/WMA-tags, iPod/iPhone metadata, Bluetooth info, and RDS.

Color Customization: Color Customization lets the user match their receiver illumination to their vehicle's interior lighting. Over 210,000 colors are available to match the illumination of almost any car. The button illumination and display illumination colors can be customized separately for an endless number of color combinations. You can select from 27 preset colors (White to Rose), customize an illumination color (by adjusting Red, Blue, and Green brightness levels), or scan through various color settings (All/Warm/Ambient/Calm/Custom).

MIXTRAX Illumination: MIXTRAX features a club-style illumination that enhances the mood with a dynamic dance club-like lighting effect. As MIXTRAX begins, lights start pulsing to the beat of the music, adding an extra level of entertainment. You can choose among twelve patterns of lighting variations from sound pressure level or low-pass synchronization modes. The lighting effects work like a spectrum analyzer, reaching peak colors based on the intensity of the music. You can also choose which area's of the head unit's face illuminates; select Display, Keys, Both or Off.

Display Illumination/Clock Display: When the Clock Display has been turned on, pressing and holding the "SRC" button turns off audio output, but the clock display and button illumination remains on (you can press the "DISP" button to turn off). When the Clock Display has been turned off, pressing and holding the "SRC" button turns the unit off completely. Even if you have turned the radio completely off you can view the clock display by pressing the "DISP" button. The clock will then remain On until you turn it back Off. When the unit is On, you can select between the clock display or the audio track/tuner display.

Demo Mode: This unit features a Demo mode which can be turned On/Off within the menu.

2-DIN Chassis: The Pioneer FH-X700BT has a 2-DIN chassis (also known as "Double DIN" or size DD), and will fit in many vehicles with a large dash opening. The unit can be ISO-mounted using factory brackets. There is also an optional double-DIN sleeve (130ADTV133, sold separately) available for this unit that will allow you to Euro-mount or custom mount the Pioneer head unit in your vehicle.

Note: As always, please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to verify fit with your vehicle.

    Remote Control

Wireless Remote Control: The FH-X700BT comes with an IR wireless remote control. The remote allows you to control the volume, switch between sources, pause the CD, change the display, and adjust the audio. You can also mute the volume (function that cannot be performed from the front panel). In addition, you can answer/end calls from a Bluetooth connected smartphone.

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input on the rear of the unit that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately). Please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to see if your vehicle is compatible.

    Q
Will I be able to access my Sirius xm stations with this device?
    vlsmitty  Dec 04, 2014

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: The X700BT is not SiriusXM compatible. You could use a dock and play unit to plug in the front Aux input or stream the SiriusXM app through your phone to the unit. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

The display is impossible to see in my 2010 Nissan Frontier truck. Doesn't matter which color is set, or that the brightness is maxed out you literally can't see anything on the display during the day. Has anyone experienced this? If so have you come up with any solution? I love the unit other than this issue. Its to the point I want to try a different unit but Im afraid they will all have the same problem.

I believe it is due to the angle at which its mounted, as well as being installed at the top of the dash. I don't see any solution to those 2 issues other than all out relocation. And it's not bad enough to do that. Just a annoying when switching inputs. I have tinted windows as well and it still has too much glare to see it. Thanks for the responses.

My 2001 elantra had a single din stereo, this is a double din stereo. When I try to fit it in the sides it fits perfectly fine but it doesn't go all the way in, because there's a piece of metal behind it stopping it from going all the way in. As a result it sticks out. The piece of metal has screws and could be removed but is this recommended. Any advice? Thanks

    Q
I have had the Pioneer for about a year and a half and really like the music quality. My issue is that the display in the tuner mode will not display the artist nor song title. The display is fine in the bluetooth or aux modes when playing Pandora and the music library in my phone, just not with the tuner. I am about 30 miles from Chicago so the radio stations are not using some obscure info for the display, my old stock tuner displayed them just fine. I talked to Crutchfield about this problem and they sent a new receiver out and it did the same thing. Anybody have the same problem or even better, a solution? Thanks.

Hi Rolland. I no longer have the vehicle that I installed this tuner in but when I did I had the same issues. I did note that when I got closer to the source, in my case Providence, RI, the info would be displayed with much more consistency. I do live in a small town about 25 miles from most of the station sources that I was listening to and while in my immediate area the info would not be displayed. My guess is that it's an inherent problem in the tuner of this unit. Maybe a lack of adequate sensitivity or selectivity within the tuner itself. Overall I was happy with it, but you are certainly not alone in this matter. Hope this helps.

Would the aux. work for an HTC One, or has it for anyone? Also does this come with the stuff to install it yourself?
    jasmine  Jul 31, 2014

The Pioneer comes with everything you need to hook it up, but you will need a wiring harness for your specific vehicle that crutchfield can provide. I have never tried to connect anything to the aux. port of the stereo so I am not the person to answer that question. I'm sure you will be pleased with the Pioneer FH-X700BT, CD playback sounds fantastic.
    roy  Aug 01, 2014
    A
Yes. It will work with Aux but best to use Bluetooth. It comes with mostly everything you need. You might need a different harness. Any Crutchfield rep can help you with that.
    wayne  Aug 01, 2014
    A
Yes the aux would work with the HTC One, but the way I would (and do) use it would be with the bluetooth mode. Everything you need to install the Pioneer comes from Crutchfield and as long as you take your time and read over the instructions first you should be fine. The mounting faceplate and wiring harness are all included.
    rolland  Jul 31, 2014
    A
Hello Jasmine I have two of these. I installed both myself. I did not need anything from outside. Crutchfield sent everything you may need. The aux can be used for any phone that has stereo pin output. Yes it will work. The only thing is that if you have steering volume controls - they will not work with this unless you buy separate adapter. I did not buy that. Hope this answers your questions.

I had a dark towel over mine with my extra keys on the dash it was blinding at night and early morning I sold the car and let it go with it.

It is a large unit and is easy enough to install but it would be difficult to pull it out and put it back every time you park your car. I would recommend a smaller unit with a removable face plate that you could take with you when you park your car.

Keep your vehicle locked. Install an alarm system or park it in highly visable areas. This stereo actually cost less than replacing one of the windows of my suburban so you really just need to think about which one you could do without!

Vehicle - 2004 Chevy Avalanche w/Boss and OnStar Stereo - Pioneer FH-X700BT Harness - RP5-GM11 Install seemed straight forward. Soldered wires together. I have no AMP so those wires are terminated and taped. Harness was set to 7 (pioneer) prior to installation. Stereo seems to be working fine but there is no sound at all. It is like the mute is stuck on. Everything else looks good, but there is no sound. Any suggestions on why the sound is not working?

I found the problem and solved it. The blue/white wire from the aftermarket stereo (Pioneer) was taped and labeled "Remote Control" so I did not connect it. In fact, it is not the Remote Control but the wire that handles the built in Amp. Once I connected that it all worked fine. Thanks for everyone's help.

The volume sometimes decreases without me having to manually using the volume knob. What is the cause for that?
    d.lathem  Nov 26, 2014
    A
There is a support bracket behind where your old stereo was. When you take it out you will see it. This new stereo might be longer so that bracket will prevent it from your new stereo to sit against the front bezel. So just bend the rear bracket back making space for this stereo to go as far back into the slot as possible.

This means that the factory system may be either longer or shorter than the replacement unit and that the mounting for that factory system is via a bracket behind the system. That bracket may have to be bent either in or out to accommodate the new unit. Or it could be that the bracket will not be used for the new system and needs to be bent up or down to allow for clearance of the wiring harness. I wouldn't let this deter you from selecting that head unit as Crutchfield performs extensive fit testing for all units...if they say it can be done, I have complete faith that it can.

It said the same thing for me (Grand Am 2001) and its really easy, car has some plastic supports beyond the factory HU, just broke them because this stereo is a bit deeper than the factory unit, but that was it, made of plastic so no problem breaking it. If you dont do it, the HU wont go deep enough for you to close everything back again.

you may have an antenna amplifier, I forget which wires, possibly those are the blue, blue/white wires mentioned. If you don't have the amplifier connected, you won't get good reception.

Can I connect two different bluetooth devices to it at the same time - a phone and an audio player for example? I am trying to set it up such that when a phone call comes in, the head unit utilizes the phone and provides a hands-free experience, and during all other times it streams audio through the bluetooth-enabled audio player.

I am pretty sure which ever device connects first is going to hold the connection not letting the other devices connect. You would have to Bluetooth the phone and aux port the audio device which also might override the audio connection when a phone call comes in. Your best bet is to get a smartphone that can handle your audio library.
    dan  Apr 29, 2014
    A
I have tried that without success, so far. Depending on the devices you have, and their ability to separate the channels, it may be possible. With my phone and bluetooth player, it wasn't able to use both at the same time. It did, however, connect...so I believe it is possible. In the bluetooth menu of the phone, I was able to select phone only, leaving the media portion open, then connect the audio device, which seemed to only take the audio portion. Unfortunately, there is no way to tell with the audio device if it was trying to take both [it had the capability]. If you have any luck with this, please post. It seems we both want the same functionality, so maybe it is just a matter of a different device.

Ryan, I'm no expert, but here is my experience with the Pioneer FH-X700BT and my Droid RAZR M: I have always played Pandora, iHeart, etc with this unit using the Bluetooth connection. Works just fine. Since you specifically ask about the USB port connection, I had to do some testing. Here's what I've learned: couldn't get Pandora (didn't try iHeart) to work at all. I referred to the manual, and it seems to imply that Pandora via USB works only with iPhone units. So if Pandora via USB is important, then this may not be the unit for you. Hope I've been of some help.

Hi Stephen, The unit came with a seperate microphone that plugs into the back of the unit. The cable for the Mic is really long so you can route it through various crevases of the dash to whatever location you like. I routed it behind the dash, then behind the instrument pannel, and now it finally rests right in front of the glass that covers the speedo gage. It's a small mic with a small black clip. The bottom of the clip is flat so you can apply double sided tape (red 3M holds up great) and tape it to whatever flat surface you have. I have no issues with people hearing me what so ever. Sorry to be so long winded about this; I'm very satisfied with this product and Crutchfield!

Anything on your iPhone can be played using the earphone connecter plug or USB cord. If you use USB the Pioneer gives you more control. I use blue tooth for Pandora and don't have other music on my phone, but I assume if the phone can play it, BT audio will broadcast it

Unfortunately I bought this unit from another site which said it was OK for my 2003 Ford Explorer Sport. Thought I had the correct wiring harness to install without cutting wires. I need wiring harness's to install, looked on your site and it says it won't work in my vehicle! The stereo will fit, is there a wiring harness that will work? If you have one I will buy from you!

I have a 2007 gmc sierra with no steering controls will I be ok just buying the radio and the antenna adapter. will it plug straight in? or do I need additional adaptors?
    ryan  Dec 29, 2013

    A
When you mention "plug straight in," what exactly do you mean? You will also need to match the wires from the new radio to your wires existing in your dash that send the signals to you front speakers, rear speaker and door chimes if you have them. I'd recommend getting the wiring harness specific to your vehicle that matches up the wiring for you minus a few specific wires for battery and aux 12v if your truck has one - usually already included if you order from crutchfield. You have the antennae adapter part right but also need this key part to "plug straight in" - it makes the install process far easier and eliminates the need to modify your factory wiring as a result

I just put the piece into its place as per the instructions and its working fine. The second unit was installed on Toyota Camry with no audio controls on steering wheel. The same type of installation in Camry as well. I DID NOT NEED anything else except what Crutchfield send me - the harness needed for installation. Hope this helps.

I like Pioneer unit since it has many connectivity possibilities - Bluetooth for audio, Bluetooth for phone, USB, input jack to connect ipod etc, CD, radio (AM & FM)...not HD radio, multicolor customizable lights, phone directory can be accessed from the unit if you are on bluetooth connectivity. The music stops playing with incoming calls. I am happy.

Jeff: I like the stereo once it got installed. I really do not know what it has for an aux plug. Customer service was hardly any help at all in wiring this pile of spaghetti together. I had to buy the special harness for my Silverado truck and it was a disaster. I am not an idiot, but the phone support made me feel like an idiot. The instruction were so poor, you had to be NASA engineer to understand any of it. I finally 'paid a local stereo shop $100.00 to wire it correctly and install the stereo. The stereo works great though.

2002 ford explorer.has steering wheel controls for volume, changing CDs and to change from am, fm. - I see an adapter would be required to use the pioneer, any idea how much it costs? Also the volume says 50 watts - seems low- any one have volume concerns?
    patmc  Dec 08, 2013

    A
It looks like the steering wheel adapters are in the $70 range. A quick call or online chat with an Advisor will help ensure that you get the right adapter for your vehicle. The volume from this receiver should be fine. It should have at least as much power as your factory system (and likely more).

So I had a Pioneer DEH-X3500UI I installed a few months ago stolen. The thieves destroy my dash I was told and so she's in the shop getting fixed with the same replacement radio. I am looking at getting this, but was wondering would this get stolen? Will my vehicle be broken into and the dash destroyed to access this radio? Background: my best friend dropped in off at the airport and then he went to get something to eat at a restaurant. When he got out, the dash destroy and stereo stolen was the end result.

Thanks for your questions Juan. I don't think we can say whether someone will break into your vehicle to steal the radio or not. That is always a concern, and an alarm system may be worth looking into. As far as tearing apart the days - getting any radio out of a dash without the proper tools will likely mean having to damage the dash.

Can you install a sub in your car with this head unit? It says it doesn't have a pre-amp output, does that mean it can't have an output to an amp?

Yes, It is sub-compatible. The associated Audio/video outs are present. The install is the same as any other aftermarket deck.

You can add an amp to this unit. Typically for a subwoofer you would connect it to the rear pre-amp outputs, but it will depend on your set-up. Feel free to reach out to an Advisor for more information on picking out the best gear for your system.

.No, The lights can not be turned off. You can turn the lights to just one solid color or have the buttons one color and the information led display another

I'm not in front of my radio but you can set your main display and key display the same color or separate from each other. I don't think there is a setting to just turn off the lights itself. Hope this helps?
    victor l  Nov 22, 2013
    A
Yes you can pick any of the colors and stay w/it. There is a "dim" setting but it is still a little bright, overall a great unit
    david  Nov 22, 2013
    A
You can't turn them off, however this unit allows you to set one color from a library of many colors so you can match your factory dash lights.
    vincent  Nov 22, 2013
    A
There are 25+ colors to choose from, you can have it on a color changing setting or single color. When dimmer turned on it is very bright at night they need to offer a illumination wire to vehicle dimmer switch. Gotta say that the dimmer issue is my only complaint after 3+ months of using stereo.
    aaron e  Nov 22, 2013

I'm not sure if you can turn them off but you can change to one color. Pressing the main knob will bring you to a selection of options. Something like menu, audio, and one of them is illumination. By selecting illumination, you can use the knob to change the color.

No the lights are pretty bright at night but u can dim them a bit. In the daytime its kind of hard to see the numbers but the head unit is awesome.

You can change the colors to whatever you want, some are brighter than others, it has a dimmer button but i dont notice much difference. You can even have it alternate between all the colors which my wife likes, but gets distracting for me at night. I usually pick a dim color when i drive it at night.

To put this in my 03 Accord LX, do I have to completely remove the center console or can I just put this one in the spot where the old stereo was?

Hi Nate. The install notes on Accord list: 1. Modifications to your vehicle's sub-dash are required. 2. After you install this kit, the door to the factory pocket just below the kit will no longer function. You can either lock the door in the open position or purchase a replacement pocket. For further details on the install please feel free to call or chat with an Advisor.
