Customer Q&A

Q
The overviews says the strap is for tvs up to 70". Our new 85" tv sits on a stand atop an entertainment center. This strap would be added security to prevent tipping. Will it still work on an 85" tv? Or is the another model specifically designed for 85" tvs?

A
This could still be used on 85" so long as the strap will reach the distance between the bottom VESA mounting holes and the TV stand. However, due to the increased height of an 85" TV versus a 70" or smaller TV, this strap would not be as likely to help in the event that the TV should be tipped over.

Q
Can this be used as wall mount failure protection such as with a Sanus vlf728 and my Sony 75" X95J? Want to insure that my TV, should any part of the mount fail, my investment not plummet to the floor or swing and crash into the wall, etc. Perhaps an additional attachment such as this would be additional insurance. Comments welcomed.

I don't think it's rated for that application. Note that such a strap would have to be rated for the high-G impact of the TV dropping and yanking on the strap and anchor so it's not going to be something that most manufacturers are going to want to have product liability for. You may need to look into having something engineered specifically for your application. If you are really concerned, build a shelf unit for the TV and both wall-mount and have it sitting on a stand?

Q
Are your screws capable of drilling into brick?

A
There are several options for drilling into a brick wall, if you are willing to DIY. There is a product by the name of, TAPCON, by Buildex, which manufactures screws of various sizes and lengths designed for use in brick, block or concrete, after the appropriate size hole is drilled with a masonry drill bit (instructions provided). My preference is to drill into the mortar between the bricks. There are also a number of similar products which can be found at any local Hardware Store. I hope this is helpful. Good Luck!

Q
Can I attach to the wall behind the tv or just to the furniture the TV sits on?

A
The instructions show two options: 1) attached to the furniture and 2) attached to the top of the back of the furniture and then to the wall.

The straps are adjustable, so yes, you can attach to the wall. Make sure you find a stud in the wall. Screw through the strap into a stud (not just sheetrock) for maximum effectiveness and safety.

Attach to wall behind the TV to either a stud or using a molly bolt. TV doesn't weigh that much depending on it's size. If TV is in a cabinet, it could be attached to the rear wall of cabinet. Mine is mounted in a built-in cabinet.

Thank you so much, Douglas!!! I am amazed so many nice people took time to answer my question :) I really appreciate it, and i gotta get this!
vicki  Feb 10, 2015

Your options are either to a stud in the wall behind or to furniture stand that the TV sits on. I have mine attached to the wood entertainment center that the TV sits on. It works great as long as your stand has enough wood to grip the screw tightly and securely you should be fine.
douglas  Feb 10, 2015
A
You can attach it to both the wall behind the TV and the furniture at the same time.

yes It attaches the tv to the back of the cabinet and then to the wall behind. in order to be secure you must attach it to the wall. good luck

The kit includes a wall attachment extension too but I think it needs to connect to the furniture first to be properly held.
