Product Research

Features

Handsfree Car Kit with FM Transmitter: The Scosche BTFreq (BTFMA) Handsfree Car Kit with FM Transmitter lets you play music and make calls through your car's FM stereo. It is powered by a 12V power plug (cigarette lighter adapter), and has a USB charging port to charge your device. It connects to your phone or music player via Bluetooth, and transmits the signal to your car stereo via FM. It also has a 3.5mm aux input for non-Bluetooth sources. The BTFreq comes with a small, convenient remote control.

Flex Neck: The BTFreq has a short (3") flexible neck that lets you position the unit at multiple viewing angles.

Display: The 1" (diagonal) backlit display indicates the FM transmitting frequency. You can choose any frequency between 88.1 and 107.9 MHz. To stream music or take phone calls, you should tune your FM radio to the same frequency.

Aux Input/Output: If you wish to play a non-Bluetooth music source device, you can plug it into the 3.5mm Auxiliary input. The same 3.5mm jack can be used as an Auxiliary output. If your car stereo has an Aux Input, you can output the audio from the BTFreq's Aux jack. A 24" Aux cable is provided.

Note: When the Aux Input is used, Bluetooth audio streaming and hands-free communication is disabled.

Music and Phone Controls: When streaming audio from your Bluetooth device, you can use the simple controls on the front of the unit to play, pause, skip tracks (forward and backward) and raise/lower the volume. A large Answer button is for controlling your phone calls.

Note: The Handsfree Car Kit does not have a microphone, so you must use the mic on your mobile phone for phone calls.

Remote Control: The included 21-button remote control gives you more control than the front panel buttons. It has dedicated Answer and Hang Up buttons, Channel +, Channel -, EQ and music controls, plus a 10-button numeric keypad. The remote is powered by a CR2025 Lithium coin cell battery (included).

Quick Charge Port: The BTFreq is equipped with a Type A USB port on the bottom of the front panel for powering/charging your mobile device. The USB port provides 5V/2.1A/10W of power, which charges your device quicker than the charger provided with the device. (For example, the supplied charger with an iPhone is 5V/1A.)

Specifications:

  • FM Transmitter Frequency Range: 88.1 to 107.9 MHz
  • Input Power: 12-24 VDC
  • Output Power: 5 Volts, 2.1 Amps, 10 Watts
  • Bluetooth: A2DP calling and audio streaming; DSP Echo cancellation
  • Dimensions:
    • Front Panel: Width 3.431" Height 1.527"

Q
Is it possible to play Pandora from my cell phone through FM on my 2005 Dodge Magnum factory radio?
ken  Sep 23, 2021
3 answers
A
Yes, you only need to establish a connection between your phone and the Schosche device either through blootooth or a double male headphone cord. From there take your FM dial on your Dodge radio and tune to the frequency being displayed on the Schosche device and Voila!! Music through the radio. There is a big button that will answer calls through the radio which is another good feature. If your an audio purist, I wouldn't set my expectations to high for this device. You won't obtain CD quality or high bit rate audio through this device, however it does what it claims to do. Hope this helps.

A
Yes I play pandora all the time through the FM transmitter
albert  Sep 24, 2021

Q
my I-phone is hands free but without the ability to stream music. Does this interfere with this existing connection when a call comes in?
daniel  Dec 09, 2019
1 answer
A
It actually pauses the music playing when you connect. And then picks up the song where it was paused when you hang up. Works quite well and sound quality is very good on calls. Also give yuh he option to answe through the Hands Free unit, as a regular Speaker Phone Call, or 2 pick up the phone.

jalissa  Jan 16, 2018

Q
Why does the transmitter cause my music to start skipping as if I'm listening to a scratched CD ?
jessica  Sep 06, 2017
2 answers
A
That is something I've never had happen while using mine.
james  Sep 06, 2017
A
It's NOT the music that is skipping but the WI-FI connection going in and out. The band being used is crowded, so you might try changing the channel being used to transmit from your device to the radio - until you have found one that is less "skippy."
matthew  Sep 06, 2017

Q
Is there plenty of volume? I have a different BT transmitter and I like it but there is a huge drop in available volume.
nickt  May 13, 2017
3 answers
A
Gets up there in volume I recommend turning phone to half, then control volume on stereo. A downfall is in other areas you will get other Fm frequencies this will effect sound you can change station on both stereo and transmitter may help or just wait to pass. Other than that more bass than i thought it would have.
trevor  Aug 10, 2017
A
There is a drop in volume in my 03 Pilot when I use this BT device connected to my iPhone. As a result I typically have to have the car volume turned up louder than normal (along with the phone volume maxed) to get to my normal listening level. Still there is more volume level on the car stereo available since I don't have it maxed out, but rather listen at a comfortable level.
jeremy  May 21, 2017
A
I bought this same bt transmitter and it worked just fine with my factory stereo. There is a separate volume control on the device. Between the volume controls on the phone, the transmitter and the stereo I haven't had any issues. I don't understand why the previous answer said it does not work. Hope this is helpful with your decision to buy or not.

Why is my radio staticky when I plug this in to use it? What can I do to correct this problem?
momnestor  Mar 15, 2017
3 answers
A
I had same problem. I sent mine back
william  Mar 17, 2017
A
you need to choose a different station. There must be a strong signal for a local radio station to that uses that frequency.
bradley  Mar 17, 2017
A
Try a different station on the unit, then switch to the corresponding station on your radio. Some are better than others, depending on your location, etc.

Q
my plug in power stays on all the time, will this kill my battery if I leave the player plugged in all the time with the screen light on?
sharon  Feb 17, 2017
4 answers
A
I'm going to say yes it will, if you plan on not driving for a month. being that the display is led, and most likely draws very little power, I wouldn't worry about it if you drive at least daily, or occasionally. If you are going to be away for a while and not using your vehicle, then I would unplug it, or at least slide it out of the power plug until it no longer lights up.
david  Feb 20, 2017
A
I bought this as a gift for my son-in-law. They liked it but a piece broke off in the lighter socket within a month. We are going to return it.
anne  Feb 19, 2017
A
Hi Sharon, I also leave the unit plug in and have not had any problems with the car battery.
freddy  Feb 18, 2017
A
Yes it will drain you battery. However at a very low rate. If you drive your car daily it won't be an issue. If you leave it for days on end not being used just unplug it.
