CES Spotlight: Parrot ASTEROID Smart Digital Media Receiver
Zak Billmeier grew up in southern Vermont and coastal Maine. After graduating from Mary Washington College with a Geography degree he still isn't sure quite what to do with, he eventually settled in the mountains of Central Virginia. He spends his free time chasing his daughter around, taking pictures, gardening and cooking. Zak traces the roots of his interest in electronic gadgets to the Casio wristwatch with a built-in calculator he received as a gift one year as a child. He joined Crutchfield's car A/V team in 2007.

Zak: Hey. I'm at the Parrot booth at CES 2013 with Frederic. Frederic, tell me about the ASTEROID Smart.
Frederic: Yeah, the ASTEROID Smart is the new generation of head units. This is a double-DIN, and the good thing with that is on top of the hands-free telephony, the app for the digital music with the iPod connector, USB and line-in you have all the connectivity, meaning that you can use apps directly on the device. They're all loaded in, and we are compatible with any type of smart phone. So in terms of apps, we have navigation, we have point-of-interest, but also radios, smart radios. And the good thing again is all the apps are embedded, so don't need to load first the apps onto your smart phone. They are already installed. And on top of that if you need another apps you can go, you can access the accessory market and download the new app directly onto the device.
Zak: That's great. That really is smart. That's the Parrot ASTEROID Smart in-dash digital media receiver.
