What are satellite radio home kits?
Bring SiriusXM satellite radio into your favorite room
Enjoy SiriusXM satellite radio over your home stereo
To play your Dock & Play satellite radio over your home stereo system, you'll need to make sure you have a home kit. Some Dock & Play satellite radios include a home kit, while others offer a home kit as an optional accessory.
Home kits usually include:
-
The radio sits in a desktop cradle (also called a docking station) on a table top, or on your component rack. You make all the power and signal connections here.
-
The AC power adapter plugs into the cradle at one end, and into a wall outlet at the other.
-
The antenna receives the satellite signal, and plugs into the cradle. You'll want to place the antenna in a spot where it receives the strongest possible satellite signal. Dock & Play radios usually have signal strength meters and an antenna aiming feature that can help you put it in just the right spot.
-
The audio cable, usually a minijack-to-RCA patch cable, runs from the back of the cradle to your stereo system (receiver or shelf system, which should have an RCA input that's not in use).
-
Some home kits include a remote control that allows you to change satellite radio stations from across the room.

Hi, Does the radio require an outdoor antenna? If not, how does it gain reception? Thanks

Deborah, Not knowing exactly which kit and speakers you have, it's hard to say -- but you should absolutely have a chat with the folks who sold them to you. In the meantime, try downloading the SiriusXM app, pairing the speakers with your smartphone or tablet, and listening to your music that way. Not exactly what you had in mind, of course, but it is another way to get the most out of your SiriusXM subscription. Hope that helps!

I purchased the sirius xm in home radio kit and also a set of speakers. but my building (business) is a very large wearhouse.. the salesperson at best buy suggested I purchase these two bluetooth speakers that I would be able to move to different areas and also I could bring one outside to be able to hear the radio outside.. I am having a problem getting the bluetooth speaker to work with the radio.. Does the xm radio not work with bluetooth speakers

SL, With this tuner, you do need something to plug into. We suggest the SiriusXM SXSD2 portable speaker dock for your office. If space is a real issue, you can (depending on your SiriusXM package) listed through your phone using the SiriusXM app. Hope that helps!

I have recently purchased the portable radio with home kit mainly for playing in my office at work. I didn't know that the radio had to be physically wired to a speaker to hear I was under the impression that the actual radio had speakers. Now I have the problem of not being able to bring a huge radio into work. My question is can the Sirius radio connect to my smaller Bluetooth speaker?

I currently have a Sirius docking station inside my house connected to a Bose radio and, of course the antenna outside. I have a very good speaker that I want to connect for outside entertainment. Do I need another docking station? I do not see a way of connecting the other speaker wire to my current docking station. Thank you.

JB. The Onyx radios do not have a built-in FM transmitter, and the home kits don't include one. But you can buy an Internet programming package (or just add it to your existing subscription) to enjoy your favorites through your phone, tablet, or computer.

My old xm tuner had a wireless fm modulator that would wirelessly tune into my stereo and any other fm radio source within my house. Does the new Onyx radios have this capability? I understand they have to be plugged into my receiver to get satellite radio. Is there another way to get a signal throughout the house on a portable radio like I did on my porch?
