Video: SIRIUS Stiletto 2 Portable Satellite Radio

Crutchfield's car audio experts Robert and Matt take a look at the SIRIUS Stiletto 2 portable satellite radio. The Stiletto records and stores 100 hours of music from SIRIUS broadcasts and your own MP3 files. Plus, for sports fans, you can't beat SIRIUS satellite radio's sports coverage.

Robert: Hi, I'm Robert.

Matt: And I'm Matt.

Robert: And we're sitting here today in the Crutchfield video studio with the SIRIUS Stiletto 2 satellite radio MP3 player.

Matt: That's right. And as the name implies, it is a combination satellite radio with MP3 capability. It will receive SIRIUS satellite radio broadcasts and has an internal memory that allows you to upload your own MP3 and WMA files to it.

Robert: And that's exactly what I like about the thing. I mean, satellite radio is great. I've had it for years. But now, with this kind of portable unit, I have the option of bringing along my music as well. So I can switch off, listening to whatever I want to hear. In this unit, you can store 10 to 20 hours probably of your own MP3 and WMA files — depends on your compression rate, of course. And if you need more music, there's also a micro-SD card slot, so you can bring hundreds more songs with you as well.

Matt: And I like the fact, too, that you can save songs that you're listening to on SIRIUS.

Robert: Right. So if you hear a song that you like, but, you know, don't have it in your collection, you can just grab it right there and store it in here. The unit includes earbud headphones, which are really nice-looking. And it also comes with an over-the-ear set of headphones that have an additional antenna built in. That way, if you have this [player] in your pocket, you may not always be able to get signal from up above.

Matt: Right. It would be very easy for your body to block the signal while you're walking around.

Robert: Right. So having an antenna on top of your head? Perfect situation.

Matt: Right. And there's a third option, too. If you're in a place where you can't get signal at all — say, inside a building — if you are in range of an accessible Wi-Fi signal, you can still stream SIRIUS channels from the Internet. So anything that's available on the SIRIUS website, if you're a subscriber, will be available via Wi-Fi in the Stiletto 2. It's a really nice option in case you wanted to keep listening, but you just absolutely can't get a signal. And it puts less of a strain on the battery, so you almost double the battery life. So it's a great option to have.

Robert: There was a feature you were showing me earlier today on the Stiletto that you really like. What was that?

Matt: That's right, Robert. I'm a huge sports fan, and SIRIUS satellite radio covers a great deal of sports — lots of leagues — the NFL, the NBA. What you can do with the Stiletto then, is program your favorite teams in each of the leagues that SIRIUS covers, so that if you happen to be on the road, say, while your favorite sports team is about to play, it can let you know that the first quarter is about to start. So you won't have to miss any of the game action at all.

Robert: Cool. You can just tune it right in when it beeps you.

Matt: That's correct. So it really is a great thing for big sports fans to have available to them.

Robert: Okay, cool. Well, that's the SIRIUS Stiletto 2.
