Video: Olympus TG-2 iHS Tough-Style Digital Camera
The Olympus TG-2 iHS can take it all and still deliver detailed photos when conditions prove challenging to less-rugged cameras. Waterproof to depths of 50 feet, this sporty point-and-shoot is ideal not just for snapshots in the rain but for gorgeous underwater photos while snorkeling in tropical locales. Even in poor light, the TG-2’s f/2.0 lens and backlit CMOS sensor ensure your photos show plenty of detail with minimal noise.
Hi. I'm Julie. I just spent a few weeks playing with the Olympus Stylus TG-2. It's one of the Tough cams that they have that's supposed to be waterproof and shockproof and freeze-proof and dustproof, and all those kind of things. So I noticed a couple things about the camera first of all. It's really, really solid. I own another waterproof camera and it's actually a little easier to hold onto. It works more like a regular camera that you can use when you're nowhere near the water or anything like that.
It also did a really good job at actually just taking pictures. It handled lots of different scenes well. So we went to aquariums, which are notoriously difficult to photograph, and it did a great job there, but it also did well underwater, on roller coasters with motion, all that stuff. It had a ton of scene modes, way more, frankly, than I was ever able to use, but it's not a bad thing if you're actually looking to capture the kinds of pictures that those scene modes make possible. Like if you really want to take pictures of your pets, there are specific scene modes for capturing cats or capturing dogs.
I have three small children. This was a camera that I actually handed over to them for a few weeks and let them go crazy with. We would play games where we would actually toss it to the bottom of the pool and they would dive for it. So that was pretty good too. You never had to worry about it. It was different than using a regular camera entirely. If you have any questions, just give Crutchfield a call.
