Soundstream's VR-931NB DVD receiver isn't cut from the same cloth as most in-dash multimedia units. Most are built to be installed in a double-DIN (4" tall) dash opening, so the screen size is by necessity limited to about 7" max. Soundstream's built the chassis of the VR-931NB so it fits into a single-DIN (2" tall) opening, and they've placed a detachable 9.3" screen onto the front. Car A/V writer Robert takes a closer look at this cool DVD receiver.

Today we're talking about the Soundstream VR-931NB in-dash DVD receiver. This is a unique piece. The receiver chassis is your standard 2" tall car stereo. It'll fit in most vehicles. However, the display is a massive 9.3" diagonal screen. That's bigger than almost anything else on the market.

Because of the size of the screen on this stereo, it isn't for every car. The first thing you need to do is consider the height and the width of this display screen and what that's gonna cover on your dash before you even try to install this. We do have the specific dimensions listed on our website.

The optional stand lets you use the display screen from the stereo as a portable desktop or even in-car media player. Sound comes from speakers built into the screen, but you can also connect headphones, and the kit includes power adapters for home and car.

Whether you are at home or on the road, you'll have a variety of media options with this stereo. In the car you can play CDs or DVDs but also there's an auxiliary input, a USB input, and even an SD card input on the screen itself. That means you'll have no problem accessing other music, movies, or photos. Add this optional cable, and you can connect and control your iPod or iPhone too.

So if you're looking to make a big statement, the VR-931NB has the big screen to make that happen. In the car, the screen is your stereo's display, but out of the car it's a portable media player. If you have any questions about the VR-931NB or want to talk to one of our advisors to see if it's right for you, give us a call, email us, or log on and chat. We'll be happy to help.
