How to install sound damping material in your car
Cutting down resonance and road noise
It's no secret that road noise has a negative impact on your music. It smothers the details and forces you to abuse your speakers by cranking up the volume.
The good news is that you can cut down that road noise dramatically by installing a sound-damping product like Dynamat. These noise deadeners work by absorbing sound-causing vibration energy, eliminating speaker resonance, and baffling out excessive sound.
Sound-damping products are easy to install. Sticky, but easy. Take a look at this video to see how it's done.

Any sound deadener should be applied to the inside of the door skin, speaker mounting panel, and on the inside of the door card.

Hello, I have a 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer O Z R with 180 K miles. Its a simple passenger car. I know its old. I love it, maintain it well with performance parts, and use it for commute. Its known that Mitsubishi never did anything to cut noise. I want to do sound deadening. I see a lot of videos, but honestly, I cannot do it myself. Could anyone please suggest me some shop around 94086 Sunnyvale CA, where some pros could do it for me ? I am okay driving up to 100 miles one way for a good shop. Regards, Shrikant

Charles, To do its job, Dynamat must be applied to your car's metal panels.

I'm hesitant to take out the carpet of my vehicle to install the Dynamat. Would it do any good to place the dynamat pads between the carpet and my all weather floor mats?

Tamara, Yes to both questions. Installing Dynamat cuts down on resonance, rattling, as well as insulates against the transfer of noise into and out of your vehicle.

Will this help prevent your car from eventually having "the rattles" from bass? And does it help with what people can hear outside of your car?

Darren, A low-frequency exhaust drone is hard to eliminate, it seems to come from everywhere. Start by applying sound-deadening material to the floor directly above the mufflers. The more massive amounts of material used on your vehicle's floor, the quieter will be your ride.

Jensen, here are our sound-deadening materials. You'll want to isolate the trouble spots for noise before applying the material. For more information on sound-deadening materials and application, check out this article and this one.
