The ZVOX Z-Base 550 sound system provides simulated surround sound, and sits discretely right beneath your TV.
J.R.: Hi. I'm J.R.
Tara: And I'm Tara, and we're here in the Crutchfield video studio to talk about the ZVOX Z-Base 550 sound system.
J.R.: You know, if you're like most people, you've recently purchased an HDTV. And so you've got high definition and your picture looks fantastic. However you might want your sound to be just as good.
Tara: Of course.
J.R.: You could do a big home theater, the speakers and the subwoofer and all that, and that's great. Or you might need something simpler for some rooms.
Tara: Right. And that's where the 550 comes in, because it simulates surround sound but just from this one piece that you see here.
J.R.: And then the question is, where do you put your single speaker system? Do you put it above or below or in front of your TV? ZVOX figured it out.
Tara: Yeah, they made this sturdy enough so you can put your TV right on top of it.
J.R.: And here's how it works. We've got five speakers inside facing forwards plus a woofer for that full bodied sound, and then the 550 adjusts the timing and the phase of each speaker to kind of convince your ears that sound is coming from elsewhere in the room.
Tara: Yeah, so it's going to sound really good. It's not quite as convincing as a full surround sound system but it's going to be way better than the sound you're getting from your TV.
J.R.: And of course it's easier to set up than a full surround sound system too.
Tara: That's right. You just plug in power, and connect the audio cables.
J.R.: And you want to remember to go into the menu system of your TV and turn off the TV's internal speakers. The ZVOX 550 is going to sound much better anyway.
Tara: Definitely. And it has an output for a powered subwoofer if you want more bass.
