Get the scoop on choosing a sound bar for your TV. Sound bars are a great choice for small or difficult spaces, or if you don't want wires running around your room.
J.R.: So you may have noticed TVs have gotten a lot thinner. What you may not have noticed is the speakers inside these TVs have also gotten a lot thinner. And because of that, well, you might find yourself wanting better sound than what they can provide. A sound bar will do that for you. It's one of many solutions. I mean you could go with a big system with speakers all around your room. Of course you've got to run wires to do that, and in this room that would be challenging. We've got hardwood floors. We've got in-wall book shelves, and doors, and windows and, well just running wires would be a challenge. So why not go with a simple solution like a sound bar? And they sound really good. We've got a bunch to choose from and I'm going to help you figure out which one might be the right one for you. Let's take a look.
So here's a nice option. This is a stereo sound bar from Boston. This would be a perfect little system for a bedroom or a secondary system in your home or maybe even your first system and you just don't want a bunch of wires you're just looking for simple stereo sound that sounds better than the wimpy TV speakers.
To hook this up is simple. All you need is an RCA cable to go from the back of the TV right to the back of the sound bar. The sound bar gets its power from the wall and there's a wireless subwoofer. Most of these come with wireless subs so you don't have to run a wire from the back of your TV to the subwoofer. All you've got to do is plug the subwoofer into the wall for power and you're done. And one other thing-the TV remote control will control the volume of the sound bar so you don't even have to have another remote control in your system. Simple. Sweet. Nice and easy.
Or maybe you do want surround sound. I know I do. You know, I want bullets whizzing around my room and atmospheric sounds on the back surround speakers that sound like they're coming from behind me. I'm going to want to feel like I'm in the middle of the audio in whatever I' m watching. Well, you don't necessarily need five speakers to do that. You could get five speakers all-in-one, like with this Polk surround bar right here. We've removed the grille so you can see just how many speakers it has in it. It's got your center channel, your front left right, surround left and right all in one.
So to get this thing working, you're going to need to connect it to an audio/video receiver like this one right here. It connects just using speaker wire. It comes with this nice long color-coded speaker wire, so you really can't hook it up wrong. It's pretty simple. You're probably gonna want to add a subwoofer. Most of this type don't come with a sub and that way you can get the sub that's just right for you and your room.
