The Dogwood Blues Festival supports Habitat for Humanity with the help of Crutchfield Corporation CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA -- April 10, 2000, -- On April 21 & 22, the Charlottesville Downtown Foundation presents Dogwood Blues Festival 2000 at Charlottesville's Downtown Amphitheater. Crutchfield Corporation supports the event through sponsorship and staffing with employees who will volunteer their time and skills in return for donations to Habitat for Humanity. On Friday, April 21, The Code Blues will perform. The show starts at 5:30, and admission is free. Code Blues�a local all-star band featuring Crutchfield employees Judy Coughlin, Conrad Drennon, Ian Gilliam, Mark Maynard, and Charlie Pastorfield, together with Charlie Bell, John D'earth, Kim Polk, Bobby Read, & Aric Van Brocklin. These talented musicians are/were members of: Skip Castro Band, Stoned Wheat Things, The Believers, Baaba Seth, Ian Gilliam Trio, Bruce Hornsby's band, Charlottesville Swing Orchestra, The Motive, Morgan White Band, and others. This is their debut performance. On Saturday, April 22, Jimmy Thackery and the Drivers headline a show that also features the legendary Catfish Hodge, and the Linwood Taylor Band. Gates open at 4, and admission is $3 in advance, $5 at the gate. Tickets are available now at all Plan 9 Music locations. A portion of the proceeds benefits Greater Charlottesville Habitat for Humanity--which has completed 14 homes and currently has 5 under construction with one scheduled to start in April (in Covesville). Six more homes will be started in the fall of 2000 (including one at the Albemarle County Fair) with a goal of completing 50 by the end of 2002. "The enthusiasm that Crutchfield�s employees bring to their Habitat activities makes them part of a great team," said Overton McGehee, Executive Director of the Greater Charlottesville Habitat for Humanity. Crutchfield has a tradition of supporting local efforts to strengthen the community and Habitat is a cause that they have supported both financially and with volunteer efforts from its employees. In addition to sponsoring the concerts, about 50 Crutchfield employees have volunteered to work the Friday night show in return for a donation to Habitat for Humanity. Look for the Crutchfield folks clad in bright blue t-shirts throughout the event!
