When I first opened this I thought it was kind of cheap. It does the job though and keeps the radio in place. No vibrations or anything, and doesn't look bad after you put the covers back on your car.
Pros: Easy to install.
Cons: Didn't like that it came with all the mounting options and you have to remove tabs that were not for your specific car. It was easy to do just a hassle.
Perfect fit, looks great, fast shipping
Pros: Fits perfectly, very good instructions.
This made the install super easy. Four bolts and I was done.
Pros: Mounts super easy!
This bracket does what it is supposed to do. Once properly installed it's actually quite sturdy. I'm not a fan of plastic everywhere, but it does the job. I had to use a Dremel with a cut-off wheel to remove the superfluous bracket parts that make this more universal, As Per Instructions, so people without certain tools will have to use what they have handy to modify.
Pros: Sturdy enough, does what it needs to do, easy install
Cons: Need cutoff tools to remove superfluous brackets, as per instructions.
It get's the job done if you manage to not break it. That's about the only plus. It's a cheap plastic that doesn't look the best and you have to break off all sorts of pieces to make it compatible with your specific car model.
The instructions took a minute to clearly make sense. But after that it was a breeze and makes for a completely professional install.
Pros: Looks like OEM install when done.
Cons: The directions for trimming the tabs was a little vague, but not horrible.
Worked, but required some modification which were addressed in the instructions. Also seems a bit flimsy. Screw holes and locating pins didn't line up very well with vehicle.
Worked as described, but kind of pain to remove unwanted tabs. I first scored them with a utility knife at their base, and then bent them over to break them off. Seemed kind of flimsy, but appears to have done the job.
Pros: Worked as it should, fit the space and attachment points on target
Cons: It is somewhat generic, you will need to break off unwanted tabs (in my case many) Seems a bit flimsy, but maybe it is as strong as it needs to be?
Pros: Fits like factory
Cons: Texture does not match my 04 Mercury Monterey
You'll need to break off most of the plastic side tabs for a 2005 focus install. Six out of the eight mounting holes lined up with my JVC receiver, but that was adequate to get the job done.
Pros: Looks great
Great product perfect fit easy to install on radio and in dash
Pros: Perfect product
perfect fit in my Ford F350. looks factory
The product got here quickly and was very easy to install.
Pros: Easy to follow instructions. Installed flawlessly
At first glance after opening the package, I was skeptical of the overall quality since the unit is somewhat universal and all plastic. The kit requires you to break off plastic tabs that aren't used for your particular application (so triple check the diagram before you commit to breaking). My skepticism was unfounded, the unit is quite sturdy and came with set screws to secure it to the receiver. All in all, this was both easier and sturdier than many of the dash kits I've used in the past.
Pros: Product very sturdy and light weight.
Cons: Not really a con, but you need to make sure you check the correct diagram for your vehicle (provided) before breaking off the unused tabs. There is no going back. Patience is key.
A fit that looks like a factory fit ,thanks team
Pros: Easy install
Works like it's supposed to but directions weren't clear for my 05 F250
Pros: Great fitment.
Cons: Poor instructions for a f250.
Multi fit products worry me but it looks great and fit great
Pros: Great product
This made the installation super easy, it was a perfect fit. I would recommend this to anyone installing a car stereo.
Pros: Perfect fit for my Ford Focus, very easy to work with.
Perfect fit makes for a clean look after my dash panel was reinstalled would highly recommend this for any 03 to 07 f250 owners
Great look and fit
Pros: No problems to install
Had to break off two times the amount of tabs (per instruction sent) to make it fit and then the screw mount location lined up with the metal frame of the car which I was no about to trim, I used less screws. Fit is tight on the Focus, but Son is happy with overall set up.
Pros: Worked with some modifications. Overall worked.
Cons: Instructions were off for car.
Crutchfield sent the wrong diagram so I had trouble fitting into car until customer service sent me the correct diagram. We got in a mini argument which was not a big deal. Just frustrating due to wrong bracket instructions.
This dash kit made the installation easy and secure. The stereo kit combines the simplicity of installation with that of a professional finish. No modification was required.
Pros: Excellent install product.
Fit like a glove . Made install very easy .
Nice fit, easy to use
Great product for the money
Pros: Easy installation
Cons: Did not fine any
worked perfectly for my double din
Took a me awhile to figure out this universal wonder.
Pros: Made my new stereo fit like a glove.
Cons: Instruction to take off certain tabs for my particular stereo so it would fit were sketchy and a little hard to read. Tabs needed to be cut off with some hefty cutters so be prepared.
I got what I paid for with this install kit, free. I installed a double din head unit into a ford F350. The kit didn't fit in the dash opening correctly and it was so tight that there was no adjustment allowed to center it in the opening. I had to drill out two of the tab openings on the kit to have enough adjustment to actually get it centered. It would have looked like crap otherwise. This may be an issue with only this application, I don't know.
Mated up beautifully with the wiring harness on my 2007 Ford Focus ST. I elected to solder instead of crimp, since I am more comfortable with soldering. No hassles whatsoever!
Pros: Did the job, no problem
This adapter made my day! Without it, you simply can't install a new Stereo unit in the Ford Focus! I'll assume that goes for all vehicles. I bought a stereo at a big box store, their site said it would fit my vehicle. BALONEY! I took the unit back for refund because the foot print was WAY OFF! I ordered the SAME stereo with this adapter and it fit right in the dash! Don't bother going anywhere else, Crutchfield's price was actually lower INCLUDING the Dash adapter and wire harness! Don't hesitate to buy from Crutchfield, they've got their act together!
Pros: Did the job as advertised, made the Installation work!
Cons: NONE / NADA!
Worked perfect, no problems at all. Fit perfectly into my Ford F350 PSD
Pros: Fit perfect.
Easy to install, fits like it should, looks factory
Pros: Fits my truck dash great, looks like a factory part.
Works like its suppose to. No problem!
Didn't need it but was glad it came with the radio for free in case i did.
Pros: Great item for free if needed.
Cons: Didn't need for radio installation.
The in-dash receiver kit worked great, but the install instructions were a bit off. We had to remove extra tabs that weren't listed to be removed on the side panels to get it to fit properly in her dash. This was easy enough, but left questions as to if we were doing the install properly until everything was complete.
The installation kit worked great! No problems with the directions they were very clear and descriptive on what material needed to be removed to be installed on your specific vehicle! I would recommend this kit to make it an east install on your vehicle.
Pros: Worked awesome! Looks great with the head unit and seamless with the dash!
Cons: Would be nice if the side brackets were metal for strength.
The manual was actually inaccurate for which tabs to remove on my 2005 ford focus. However, I was able to get it to work by just leaving in the back 4 tabs. Otherwise, it works as intended. I am giving it four stars due the poor user manual clarity.
Easy to follow directions an looks better than factory
A little confusing about which tabs to remove but worked great!
I used this install kit in my 2006 Ford SuperDuty. It fit great, the instructions were very clear on what parts had to be removed to get it to fit in my vehicle.
Pros: Great installation instructions
More of the generic mounting tabs must be snapped off than what the instructions indicate. Additionally, the instructions don't give any information at all on fastening to the head unit. We had to remove a trim ring and a metal sleeve from the head unit in order to get the bracket to fit. Crutchfield's 800-number support line was great in helping us figure it out, but pretty much agreed that the instructions for the bracket are inadequate.
Pros: Fits, once you figure out which additional tabs to remove and how to get it onto the head unit. Free with purchase of head unit.
Cons: Grossly inadequate instructions.
Fairly easy install with head unit. Followed directions and ended up having to snap off more tabs than indicated, but really not a big deal. Sits flush with dash and looks good. Fits 07 Focus.
Pros: Holds head unit in the dash where it belongs.
Fit Ford F250 just fine
Fits and looks great!
Pros: Great fit and looks
I was concerned that it would scream "I'm not original," but this kit made my Kenwood install look like it really belonged in my F250. Impressed with the fit and finish. My goal was to not notice it after I installed the radio--mission accomplished!
Pros: Texture matches the OEM dash perfectly
Cons: None that I can think of, maybe the instructions are a bit vague?
not much to say but everything fit perfectly
perfect fit on f250
Pros: fits and supplied at no extra charge
the intall kit is kind of a puzzle to put together. the instructions are ok at best. bottom line is it fit. it did not allow the surround that came with my deck to snap into place but it really isnt super noticable. it looks flimsy and you will think it isnt going to look or work very well untill you get it in the truck then it looks and works fine. as for the multitude of tabs on the universal bracket i found using a good set of electricians side cutters (klien wire cutting piliers) was all i needed. the edges left from the tabs are conceled behind the dash piece so cutting them smooth on my application was not nessisary.
Pros: for the price paid it works and looks good once the dash is back in place
Cons: the instructions could be a little more helpful. it is made to cover a dozen different vehicles and decks though so possibly a set of online directions with decent pictures would be helpful
Easy to use, looks good in the dash.
Cons: Cutting off the unused tabs was kind of a pain, but that's what Dremel tools are for.
Tabs that are not needed are a bit tough to cut and they have to be cut flush for proper fit. I found scoring them with a utility knif first made them much easier to keep flush. Seeme a bit flimsy but worked out great and once all assembled wa svery sturdy.
This receiver kit fit my receiver and the dash of my 2007 Focus perfectly. You do have to read the instructions carefully and look at your dash where the kit will go before you go cutting off the unneeded mounting tabs. The tabs are a bit tough to cut. I used a wire cutter but a roto-tool might be in order as my wife says I have freakishly strong hands. Be a bit careful as it's just made of "regular" plastic, not Glock plastic.
Pros: Holds receiver solidly. Very clean and flush in final install.
Cons: I hesitate to put any cons here as the product does its job and "improvements" might just increase the price.
As always great product from Crutchfield.
Pros: Perfect fit
Cons: Always have to many tabs to cut off.
EASY INSTALL GREAT INSTRUCTIONS
Pros: EASY INSTALL.FITS PERFECT
I don't know why I was expecting more out of "univerisal kit". The instructions are very vague at best. It tells you what tabs to cut off, which leaves nice sharp objects. After it tells you what tabs it doesn't tell you anything on how it will work on your head unit. I was installing the JVC KW-HDR81BT unit and after about 15 min I finally figured it out. I just wish the finish you do see was better than the flat black.
Pros: It was free from Crutchfield
Cons: Quality, instructions, fit...etc
It's ok. It's a cheap, plastic, universal bracket. I had to remove 8 plastic clips and the long piece across the opening to make it compatible for double-din installation in my car. To make it look decent, I then used a dremel to round the sharp edges left from the long piece. Not hard, but not super quick or convenient.
Pros: Cheap, which lets Crutchfield supply it for "free." It did work.
Cons: Looks pretty cheap. Is compatible with a multitude of different cars, so it requires a lot of modification to make it work with your specific model.
Crutchfield included this mounting kit free with the purchase of the JVC KW-HDR720 receiver. Yes there were lots of not quite conspicuously marked in the instructions ears to break off of it to make it work. I used plastic model cement to glue the sides onto the face plate. That made installing on the receiver a lot easer because I had to try three different combinations of fitment to get it right. Because of its width, a rotary file on the cordless drill was also required to relieve some plastic from inside of the Ford Focus dash hole.
Pros: It works and looks as good as the factory install.
Cons: None really. Gluing the sides onto the faceplate made fitting to the receiver a lot easier, but they don't tell you that.
The FMK542 mounting kit fits the Ford Truck but it DOES NOT fit the JVC- KWR900BT Radio/CD unit. The Spacer/faceplate of the mounting kit will not fit over JVC-KWR900BT as the hole the radio goes in isn't wide enough and there is no way to modify it to fit. So make sure you get a different mounting kit if you buy the JVC unit which works great.
Pros: None. It will not fit the JVC-KWR900BT and cannot be modified to do so
Cons: It will not fit the JVC-KWR900BT and cannot be modified to do so
"Universal" almost always means "modification needed" for a perfect fit. I expected this however, this kit didn't require much for installing a 2-din JVC media player in my friend's Focus ZX3. Yes we had to cut out the middle bar out since our unit was a 2-Din unit and yes we also had to remove a few of the MANY mounting tabs on the sides and we also only use 4 of the 8 screws for mounting the unit to the dash kit (use of the other screws would make it bind up on the factory mounting tabs) but it was otherwise smooth sailing and the end results look nearly OEM.
Pros: Fit well (once modified), good fit-'n-finish once installed, easy to follow instructions
Cons: will need to be modified - not ready-to-go right out of the package, may require the use of cutting tools
Kit was supposedly correct for my application, but was warped and just absolutely would not work. Ended up having to buy another kit at a local car audio shop.
First off let me say that the fact Crutchfield gives this away instead of charging for it is awesome! You'll need this to install your stereo and the fact that it's free is fantastic. That's why I feel bad giving it a mediocre review - after all, it is FREE! The unit is designed to work with dozens (hundreds?) of different vehicles, so you have to modify it to work with yours. As you can see in the photo, there are lots of "ears" on the sides of the housing for mounting screws in different vehicles. Well, in my van, I only needed 4 of these and had to break off all the others. Wasn't difficult to do with pliers and cutters, but you had to keep fitting it in the vehicle to make sure you weren't accidently cutting off the ones you needed to keep. Also, the unit comes in 3 pieces (front, left, right) and they all fit together with hinges in the corner. But you have to hold the unit together or else it falls into 3 pieces again.
Pros: Free unit that you'll need to do your install. It does the job and looks great once in place.
Cons: Flimsy and the user has to do lots of customization to fit in your particular vehicle
This is a one-kit-fits-many Ford vehicles. The fact that it is so generic makes it junk. It has like 10 tabs and most vehicles need 2 tabs so you have to cut off the other 6-8 tabs you don't need leaving jagged, broken remnants--granted this is not seen once the install is done. The sides don't securely mount to the front trim plate--they just hang there with a tab in a slot (without even snapping in) and count on screwing to your receiver to support the whole thing. The screws supplied aren't long enough, are the wrong threads and the screw holes didn't line up with my receiver (Kenwood DNX6990HD). The outside trim ring plastic is a rough sandpaper texture like from a 1982 stereo. Most newer vehicles have smooth-finish electronics and dash panels. I understand it's cheaper to manufacture and inventory a one-kit-fits-many item, but I would gladly have paid more for a quality kit, made for my exact vehicle that did not require me to customize it to make it work and matched the texture and finish of my factory dash. I'm using it now but will be searching for a better kit to replace it with soon. I've been a Crutchfield customer for over 22 years and they are AWESOME, but sorry guys, this particular item is a very bad pick...
Cons: Generic-must customize it to fit your vehicle, rough-textured finish doesn't match vehicle interior, Low quality--sides don't securely attach to front, screws not long enough, screws have wrong threads
It was advertised for the 2004 free star van but left a gap a the bottom of the radio. Very disappointed
Dash install kit seemed borderline inadequate in quality but was functional.
Pros: it allowed the install but thats all I can say for it.
Cons: borderline inadequate in quality
This kit provided by crutchfield for free with my order made the radio look professionally installed. The instructions tell you have to trip the plastic to fit your specific radio/model car. After installation, you can't tell that the car was made for any other radio. I installed this trim around my Clarion CX501 double din radio into my ford focus 2005.
Pros: Very please with the look. Fits great.
Cons: the screws on the side strip easily and require some care to not overtighten!
It fit my Ford 2004 Freestar well. Instructions were good.
Fit as advertized. Made the installation simple and seamless
PROS: Looks great when complete. Fits my truck correctly. Breaking off the tabs with pliers was easy. CONS: At first its hard to make sense of the correct orientation but when comparing to the original mount ist a piece of cake. i had to use a grinding bit on my dremmel tool to grind down the lip on the outer edge of the metal sleeve that surrounds the stereo. With a good push it fit right into place.
As the title says it's ok. It got the job done but it was more work than I wanted to do. First off there are several tabs that had to be cut off to be usable for my application. Not a big deal but something to consider when purchasing this. I just used a hacksaw blade and that made quick work of the tabs. My big issue with this kit is... wait for it... It would not fit a double din stereo!! I had to trim about an 1/8th of an inch for my stereo to fit inside of it. I know this comes free with the purchase of a stereo but I would have paid for something that fit without hacking off tabs and trimming the opening. Maybe there is not a better option, I really didn't spend any time looking into it. So all in all it's ok! If you get this kit be prepaired to spend a few minutes cutting and trimming to make it work.
If you order a double din head unit and get this install kit, be prepared to do some very delicate work. The trim plate that goes around the face of the radio does not fit correctly! You will have to very carefully file or cut some material from the top and bottom to get the unit to fit.
It was a little confusing at first a lot of tabs to break off and if you get the wrong one your
hosed. But with a little effort and reread the instructions it is easy enough.
Easy to use, instructions were clear. just one thing, in the Mercury
Monterey minivan we had to adjust the positioning of the kit before tighten to
allow the stock trim plate to snap into proper position.
Great product. Made for a very easy install.
This Kit allowed the Pioneer AVHP4000DVD to fit perfectly in the dash. Installation looks just like a factory system. Only issue was that I couldn't use BOTH of the mounting screws on each side between player and bracket as they interfered with sliding the system into the dash. However player is held snug between screw on each side and tang on kit. All 4 screws between kit and dash were sustituted with ones with larger heads to spread the pressure over the plastic (personal choice).
I installed My Clarion MAX685BT flush with my dash with this kit and realized that i could not get the face to rotate down for disc access. The kit prevented the face plate from rotating. The flush with the dash look was factory perfect but I had to reconfigure. Now, the receiver sticks out from my dash and it looks like an amature install. The more and more I look at it, more I'm leaning on sending the entire package back. I spoke with the support folks and sent in pics of the install and they informed me that there was nothing more I could do, unless I wanted to forfeit my disc access. So I would recommend that you purchase a receiver that has a front disc access with no rotation if you are going to use this kit.
