Dash kit

Written By Jim, Natick,Massachusetts on Sunday, October 04, 2015

Simple and straight forward, fit perfectly, not much more I can say.

Pros: Fits perfect, looks good, easy to use

Cons: None

Written By Rick, St. Louis MO on Sunday, October 04, 2015

Fits like a glove and looks like an OEM install.

Pros: Easy fit

Cons: Had to use the trim bracket that came with the radio instead of the one thst came with the dash kit as it was very difficult to remove the trim piece and I could not snap it back in once the radio was in place.

As always Crutchfield comes thru with the right parts to make m u installation easy.

Pros: Clear instructions

Works well but be careful

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this in a 2004 Ford Excursion. The dashboard trim piece is held in place by 2 screws above the factory radio and a bunch of spring clips. This is held in by 6 spring clips That Can Only Be Released From The Back. So if you install this with the 2 screws in place, there is no way to remove either the trim panel or the radio without breaking something. After install, I realized the best install is probably to put the storage area above the aftermarket radio and drill access holes for the dash screws, which can then be accessed with an offset screwdriver.

Pros: Fits well.

Cons: Instructions/warnings/options incomplete.

Worked Great!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit worked in my 2008 Ford Ranger perfectly. I've read other reviews that claim it "didn't fit" their Ranger, and that it was "wobbly" after installation. It says on the FIRST PAGE of the instructions for this that you have to file down a couple plastic fit nubs that are required for other model cars in order to use this unit in a Ford Ranger. It took about 1 minute to file them off and it installed with no wobble. READ THE DIRECTIONS, PEOPLE!

Easy and complete

Not a good match for a Pioneer head in a Ford Escape

Written By Motoguy, Blaine, WA on Wednesday, September 16, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've installed 6 Pioneer receivers in various of our family's cars, all bought from Crutchfield and all installed using the supplied installation kits. This is the first one I've had a problem with . The (heavy) Ford factory CD unit is supported at its lower edge by a nylon "slider" that rides on a "track" in the dash. This mounting kit includes a piece that should provide this function BUT it cannot be fitted to Pioneer head unit I bought (there is no place on the Pioneer to attach it). It took me a few hours of "chair and stare" to figure out how to re-purpose the factory support for use with the new Pioneer unit. Very unlike Crutchfield-supplied install kits to leave me in a bind like this. It all works fine now but the delay and fiddly work involved was annoying.

Pros: Very complete kit. Thorough, well-written instructions

Cons: Critical rear support as supplied could not be used with the Pioneer head unit I bought.

Install Kit pretty good

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

how crazy excited can you get about an install kit. It worked pretty good, we had a few problems getting it in right but eventually figured it out. not the best directions.

Pros: it fit

Cons: it took several tries to get it in correctly, and we had to "rig" it behind the dash

Well, it worked

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The instructions are missing a few of the finer details. You can figure it out by trial and error however. Installation was for an early 2000 Ford Ranger.

Pros: Pretty cheap considering most kits go for $15+. Matched my radio and dash pretty well.

Cons: Some of the plastic tabs that is supposed to hold the radio in the dash broke off before I could get it into the dash, making it useless for actually keeping the radio in the dash. Cheap plastic or maybe due to being made to fit multiple vehicles, who knows. Had to use the mounting sleeve on the radio to keep the radio in the dash.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After getting the wires all set up, My friend and I sat there for 30 more minutes trying to make the pieces fit, but in the end we simply used half of what was there. Literally half of the mounting side pieces.

Pros: It worked out well in the end. Tight fit.

Cons: Too universal.
