This was very easy to install with great instructions and almost looks factory (it was a modified fit).
Pros:
Easy to install and good instructions
Cons:
Doesn't quite look like a factory installation, but that was known up front that it would be a modified fit.

Good Stuff

Written By Kevin O, Skokie, IL on Thursday, April 25, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Although the instructions didn't really tell me much for my specific make and model, I still rate this 5 stars. The in-dash reciever kit worked great after I figured it out. No issues at all whatsoever with the product itself.
Pros:
Works great, price was good, pretty easy to figure out even with the lack of instructions provided for MY specific make and model. Just a simple puzzle piece that you need to put together. Watch a few YouTube videos and you'll have it all figured out.
Cons:
Insutrctions sucked, but no big deal.

This is not a simple install for someone who has limited experience. The instruction sheet is sorely lacking. It looks good and functions as it should- It just took way too long.

Didn't use it

Written By DennisA, Napa, CA on Saturday, December 22, 2012

I did not use it. I reused the install kit from a 1998 stereo install in the same car, which was purchased from Crutchfield. The old kit was WAY better than this one. The install was on a 1987 Chevy Monte Carlo SS.
Pros:
None
Cons:
In my case, unusable.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Worked...but once installed the bracket had to be modified as it left an unsightly gap in between the facotry trim plate and the front face of the radio plate. In stall was on a 1987 Buick Grand National
Pros:
Simple, universal fit
Cons:
Cheap feeling plastic, had to be modified to fit car and look correct

Not the best but worked

Written By CarbonUnit.01, Decatur, IL. on Thursday, September 13, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Biggest problem I had with this kit is if you are using an older unit that you have been swapping in and out of vehicles and you do not have the DIN mount that came with said unit you are fabbing up brackets. This means you are under the dash a lot longer placing unit in and out to try to make it look as good as possible. Would like to have found a face plate that had a small pocket in it, they had plenty of room to mold one into it. But hay for the price and I was able to find something for a 1990 Oldsmobile 88 Royale I should complain.
Pros:
Cheap
Cons:
No bracket options with kit, no pocket

Looks better than expected. Bought this for my 90 Cadillac Coupe DeVille. Took some time to install since the bracket from the old stereo did not fit perfectly on the kit. Had to use a file to make an opening bigger so I could make it fit. Not too difficult though.
Pros:
Looks good
Cons:
Did not perfectly fit my car

GOOD PRODUCT - LIMITED DIRECTIONS

Written By Dick, Destin, FL on Sunday, June 17, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have used this kit in other applications and already knew the "tricks" to getting it installed. Fit was perfect after I trimmed off 2 alignment tabs on the car's lower radio bracket that prevented its installation on the kit's chassis support cage. The installation instructions (diagrams) still need to be improved on this product to eliminate questions by the user.
Pros:
Nice look and finish that goes well with most interiors. Completely covers the 1.5 DIN GM radio bay when installing a 1 DIN head unit.
Cons:
Poor instructional materials. Had to be modified for my application.

Leaves things to be desired

Written By BJ, Colorado on Sunday, May 06, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This item comes with everything but aftermarket brackets. The Crutchfield website clearly states that the mounting brackets from the factory stereo are required for proper installation. This item should just come with plastic replacement brackets as we did not have the original stereo and the item is dealer only, that of which is not stocked or manufactured anymore.
Pros:
Comes complete as described and functions as intended ONLY when the factory brackets are present (from the original stereo, if you have it still).
Cons:
Does not include plastic replacement brackets. This item auto ships from Crutchfield and was a waste of Crutchfield's time, money and shipping costs to send this item to me even though we knew ahead of time that it wasn't going to be sufficient to mount the radio since the factory brackets were missing.

Faceplate Adapter

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Made for a very clean fit in a double din size opening. I was somewhat unsure during the assembly, but the finished product fit was great. Take your time, the instructions that come with it are very vague
Pros:
Fit my car (Late 90's GM) like it was made for it specifically.
Cons:
Has parts for more than one application and instructions are very vague.....even for someone who was an auto tech for 20+ years.

Not a complete install kit

Written By citysliker71, Odessa, TX on Saturday, January 28, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Ordered this to go with my new pioneer reciever in a 1989 Pontiac 6000. I was unable to use it though since the car no longer had the factory system in it to get the mounting brackets off of. The brackets to mount this kit to the dash are not included and they say to use the ones off of the factory stereo....that doesnt work when the factory stereo was pulled out years ago.
Cons:
No mounting brackets included.

This was really a no-brainer. When you have a double din spot in the dash and in my case a radio that was 1 inch deeper than what my Lumina had room for, this made the installation look professional and very simple.

Written By Anonymous, Tennessee on Saturday, May 28, 2011
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

When I bought my new radio for my car, I bought this with it. Well, I had to buy a whole new kit because this was not able to secure the bracket in place. Everything else was fine but I could not secure the radio in so it was just sitting in the hole. It needs more instructions.

This has a nice clean look, but their are no instructions included. Luckly I put together several simular types of kits. I put an extra front panel in the back of the adapter to have a more stable frame since I will hit a few rocky dumps. This is nice and easy to put together if you have done it before.

This kit was a breeze to install. Very easy to figure out. Fit in my 1991 Buick Skylark with zero
problems.

I had issues locating a kit to fit my car. I LOVE the "outfit my car" feature. Took the headache

What directions?

Written By Herb, Bridgewater, NJ on Tuesday, September 28, 2010
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

While the adapter kit worked quite well, the instructions were just about useless. They gave some direction but you were pretty much on your own to figure out the installation. I have used Crutchfield installation kits on several radio projects and have found them to be explicit and readily followed by the most inexperienced installer. Not so this GM kit. As I said, once you figure it out, the kit works and looks great, just be prepared to spend some grey cells trying to figure it out. If you're not good at problem solving, you might want to pay someone else to install this kit.

Written By Marty, S.E. Michigan on Wednesday, January 28, 2009

The only issue I had with this was some minor flashing had to be trimmed off with an exacto knife. (Flashing is the super thin pieces of plastic which leak out bewtween the mold halves). This was not a big deal at all - almost all plastic injection molded parts have flashing.

Other that that, I don't know if you could ask for a better way to mount your new head unit!
