Everything fit good except the trim bezel that goes around the radio for looks. It comes with the radio. When best buy try to put it in it wouldn't go in stay in. Had to customize it but other then that great product. Great product

Pros: Fit was good

Cons: The bezel from radio did not want to stay in place. Had to customize but not much

Kinda flimsy, and you may need some slight modifications.

Pros: Worked in my car, didn't need other items.

Cons: Very flimsy, and needs some slight modifications to fit perfectly.

003GMK408 Mounting Kit - 1996 Geo Prizm

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

In the end, I was happy with the installation, but, it was not straightforward. The "Master Sheet" that Crutchfield sent with the radio and kit does not describe a method for mounting the radio that works. The problem is that the new DIN radio and the old radio are the exact same width. This does not allow for the DIN sleeve that fits over the new radio to fit into the original factory bracket, which must be used with this kit. If you use the sleeve, the factory bracket will spread to a point where it won't fit back in the car. In the end, I didn't use a sleeve and improvised an installation using 2 "T" brackets from Lowes to mount the radio with the side attachment screws. This actually made quite a sturdy installation, and the end result is very nice. Also, I see at least one other person doing these reviews had trouble using the bezel that was included with the new radio, as it does not fit inside the factory dash bezel. I had to trim off the inside of the factory bezel to make the radio fit. Finally, this was all done with a second kit which Crutchfield sent after the first one came with a warped EQ cover. The second kit was OK, but even then the EQ cover didn't snap in quite right. It looks OK but the center snaps don't hold very well and I think I will put some super glue on it to make sure it stays put. All in all, not great. If you want a nice professional looking installation, you have to make up for the bad design and poor workmanship of this kit.

Pros: Possible to put this kit in with a little imagination.

Cons: Poor design. Poor workmanship.

Good fit

1993 Geo Prizm
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This kit was a pretty good fit in my daughter's old 1993 Geo Prizm. Glad Crutchfield has these kits otherwise I wouldn't have attempted the installation myself. Looks pretty good, but I ended up having to remove the CD storage cubby to get it in. Would have preferred to keep the storage space.

Pros: Fit pretty well, fairly sturdy.

Cons: Ended up losing the storage space from the previous kit.

Does the job

1996 Geo Prizm
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After having just installed this 5min ago , I can say that its an ok product but nothing more. I have installed around 5 car stereos in my lifetime and this is the first one that required cutting of any sort. Not really sure why they think anyone in this day and age would use a shaft style replacement radio but you will need to cut out the mounts for that. Then below the stereo location you have 3 "cut outs" for an added EQ. Well these cut outs are just little tabs and feel pretty flimsy. I would have preferred having nothing there and just a nice flush look but this is all Crutchfield has.

The only other negative that I see isn't exactly a problem with this mount but with the Geo Prizm's dash trim itself. It will not allow you to install the stereos trim plate as the sides of the dash trim come right up against the stereo and leave no room at all.

1994 Geo Prizm
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've been installing stereos for about 20 years and this install kit (along with others) have something to be desired. The pocket below the radio should have at least a small area to store stuff. There is plenty of room. Also the tabs that fit over the cup holder are a little tight. I wish someone would come out with an EXACT fit, but this must be too hard to accomplish with the vast variaty of vehicles out there. And why in all my years do they have to make cutting a part of installation.

Most people aren't going to install a double shaft stereo to replace their stock stereo, so cutting could be cut down. These tabs are pretty thick, so a really good tuff razor blade will be needed. Also the the hole where the stereo fits is a little tight, be prepared to trim some minor areas of this kit.

I give it 3 stars because of all the timming that has to be done and a few other small things that could be improved on.

1995 Geo Prizm
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently purchased this item for my 1995 Prizm and it fits better than a Scosche kit that i tried from Wal-mart. Very easy to install. One problem I had was that my trimplate for my Sony HU wouldn't fit because of the design of my cars trim panel. I will probably have to trim either the trimplate or trim panel to aquire the room needed. Otherwise, I give it 5 stars!

The bottom section of the front plate is not quite the right size. and is difficult to fix over the retractable cup holder. Other than that I suppose it worked out alright.

Add a CD Storage Area

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It'd be nice if, instead of a simple plate to block off the equalizer area, if there was an option to have a CD tray. There's a lot of room underneath where the aftermarket radio goes and it goes to waste with this kit.
