In the beginning, I didn't know the faceplate could come apart into two pieces. Doing so allowed for better assembly of the trim ring.

Perfect fit into the car and to the stereo.

Pros: Fit perfectly and the two piece option helped.

Cons: Could of been a bit more sturdy with plastic nubs just like the original stereo had.

Not fancy, but gets the job done

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This receiver kit is a 2-piece design. Take the two pieces apart, put the first part in the dash, secure the head unit cage, slide the head unit in, and put the trim ring on. It's as simple as that.

The design is pretty underwhelming. There are other kits out there that may give a more "factory" look, but the price was right on this--free with purchase of my stereo. I can't take the faceplate off of my Pioneer unit (not a big deal to me) and there is a bit of a gap between the front of the head unit and the trim ring of this kit. I wish it looked as good as it does with Pioneer's standard trim ring (which must be removed), but that's the way it goes.

Pros: great fit, secure, easy installation

Cons: I feel it could look better and there may be other alternatives out there (from other vendors).

Simple elegant

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It's the finishing features that make the install, hiding the wires and mess, making it feel custom. Thats exactly what the trim does. My only problem after installing my Alpine CDE-HD149BT was it was too recessed (my prior Kenwood was perfect in the dash)-98 civic. After re reading the book it appears its not the trim, which is the same in both cases, I might have missed attaching some plates to the radio that were in the box, DOH! Looking for those now, but once done I have no doubt it will look as factory as my Kenwood did.

Pros: Durable, simple.

Cons: None

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

When Crutchfield included this with my car stereo purchase, I was not sure what to expect. I purchased a Kenwood KDC-X997 and hoped it would look much more visually appealing than the aftermarket walmart stereo and kit that was installed.

The receiver kit was easy to install and looks pretty nice with the Kenwood. My only criticism is that it looks like the stereo is somewhat recessed. I think given that it's not a factory stereo, it will obviously look a little different and just takes some getting used to.

All in all, I think it's a good kit and I'm glad it was included from Crutchfield.

Pros: Good fit and finish

Works as advertised

Written By Mike, Mesa, AZ on Friday, October 11, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had first bought a Boss Audio 612UA stereo (one of the cheapest I could find for this old car), but the face on the stereo was too big for this receiver kit. After putting in the outer trim, then putting in the stereo, the inner trim piece wouldn't fit. I ended up taking the Boss back and purchased a Pioneer DEH-150MP. The inner trim piece is a little snug and I can't get detachable face off the stereo, but i'm not too concerned about that. It looks great and matches the rest of the dash, and that's really what I was aiming for.

Pros: Looks great.

Cons: Snug fit. Doesn't fit all single-DIN stereos.

The product is very good. I was under the impression that this would be a plug and play. I did not expect to have to solder wires. I m not an installer and do not have the equipment or knowledge to be doing this.

Pros: Sounds good and easy to install after soldering wires

Cons: Had to solder wiring from the radio to the adapter my car

Written By EdP, York, PA on Tuesday, April 02, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

What can I say? It's an easy to install plastic receiver mount. It went in easily. You need to bend out the actual receiver metal mount to get this to stay in place, there is nothing on the plastic mount itself to hold the bracket. It worked well and it fit properly.

Pros: Easy install. Fit well.

Cons: Needed to use actual metal receiver mount to secure this. It's the design of the dash. There is nothing to secure a mount to without metal tabs.

Well what can i say this trim piece really the best one out there, i already had 1 that i had bought at my local parts store but nothing compared to this one. If you use this without your units trim ring it makes your unit look more like factory which is why i love it.

I used this to install a Kenwood KDC-x596 in my mom's '96 Honda Civic. It fits the dash great, but it's a really tight fit to get the Kenwood's faceplate on and off. It's doable, but tricky.

Pros: Tight clean fit

Cons: Maybe a bit too tight with the deck

I just removed the faceplate included and just kept the one attached to the Sony Stereo that I bought because it makes it hard to detach face. And the surrounding part I used to keep it looking neat.

Perfect fit. 100% OEM look for Kenwood head unit. Outstanding installation instructions that showed ALL trim panel hidden screws. My daughter thinks I'm her hero now for installing her radio, having it actually work and look "awesome." Thanks guys!

Pros: Perfect fit. Clear, easy to follow, 100% complete installation instructions. Fast delivery.

Cons: None... well, if it installed itself, that would have been nice.

barely works

Written By ulrich, baltimore on Wednesday, August 17, 2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

i'm glad this was free, because if i'd paid, i'd certainly want a refund. doesn't sit flush and barely squeezed into place. also due to sizing issues, i can't install the head unit's trim ring, and the one that comes with this kit won't fit around the faceplate either. also the depth is all wrong for my alpine unit, so i can barely find tabs to bend to keep it in place. the coloring is also off. the metra one is much better than this.

The receiver kit doesn't sit flush with the head unit. You can see gaps between the outer plastic ring and the deck. Not ideal but functionally it works.

Closes the gap

Written By Deggy, Madison, WI on Wednesday, April 13, 2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I used this with an older Sony with a flip down face. The flip down face would
catch, so I had to trim the bottom edge. Others have said the same thing. Make
sure you don't trim too much. There is an existing groove on the back side that
seemed naural to cut along, and now I can see a little of the DIN cage. Wish I
would have trimmed less.

Other than that, It fits fine and looks good. It does exactly what its supposed to.

Some people say they had problems with kit. I didn't. The instructions tell you
they are 2 pieces. Better than the Walmart ones.

Useful but not universal; the instructions could be better

Written By msljr, Austin, TX on Monday, August 23, 2010

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had Mike of Sacramento's experience: I didn't realize at first that the bracket was in two
pieces that must be separated before you install the radio. The master sheet for my 98
Civic suggests that you use it all in one piece, and that's just not the case. The correct
order should be: split bracket in two; put the rear half in the dash first; then install the DIN
sleeve; then install the head unit; then install the outward-facing trim ring from the receiver
bracket.

Also, the outer trim ring that you'd normally use to finish off the installation may not work
for all head units. The Sony CDX-GT700HD that I installed has a thick, fold-down
faceplate that won't work with the outer trim ring from this bracket. The Sony trim ring
mates perfectly with the rear half of the receiver bracket, however, so all is well.

Take It Or Leave It

Written By holly, Atlanta on Tuesday, August 03, 2010

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I opted for the standard trim (recessed 3/16" inset from the dash) and it looks fine. It might be a little more difficult to remove the dust but it sure makes removing the faceplate easier.

Works perfect

Written By Mike, Sacramento, CA on Sunday, August 23, 2009

Works great. Only problem I ran into was I didn't realize that it was two pieces (one that is inserted before the radio is placed in the dash, one that snaps in after the radio is placed in). If I had either read the instructions, or looked at the piece a bit more closely, I would have done it right the first time.

Once I installed it properly, the deck worked perfectly, even folded down for inserting CDs. I suspect some of the other people's problems may relate to this, or just different decks (mine is a Kenwood KDC-MP528).

My only complaint and it is very small, is the texture of this piece is slightly different from the surrounding pieces, but it isn't a big distraction.

Looks good, a bit tight

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This bracket fits well with my 97 Civic dashboard. It was easy to install, matches the contour and doesn't leave any gaps. The unit I installed has a removable face, but this kit is so tight around it that I can't remove it very easily.

Modification necessary!

Written By Eric, New Braunfels, Texas on Sunday, January 25, 2009

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

A great looking product, easy to install but... I had to do MAJOR modifications for this to work with our Alpine CDA-9884 deck. The faceplate for the deck would not flip down due to interference between the buttons on the faceplate and the plastic trim. I had to shave off nearly 1/3 of the material on the trim to make the system work (for access to the CD player and for faceplate removal).

I ran into the same
problem as listed
above. The faceplate
on my Alpine
headunit doesn't
clear the trim ring.
The mounting bracket
works well enough,
but on the whole I'd
say the kit isn't
compatible with at
least one Alpine
unit with a folding
face.

Written By EJ, Louisville, KY on Tuesday, February 19, 2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I ordered the dash trim kit for my '97 Civic to cover the areas where the stock radio used to cover, and installed it without a problem. I'm satisfied with the product, besides the fact that my Alpine receiver has a faceplate that folds down and this inside piece to the trim kit stops it from folding down to insert a CD. I kept the inside piece off and inserted a standard trim ring and it looks nice, better than before.
