This fit my vehicle and stereo perfectly! I previously attempted to swap my factory stereo with an adapter I bought online from another vendor that said it would fit my vehicle and stereo but it didn't. I had to return the product and came to Crutchfield. I should have just shopped here from the beginning!

Pros: Custom fit

Install kit worked well but it did take some brainwork on my part to figure it out. The instructions got me about 80% of the way there, but had to figure out some stuff that wasn't in the instructions.

Pros: Looks good as the OEM in the dash.

Cons: Cubby opening is slightly smaller and not lined with felt like the OEM. Instructions stated original cubby would be reused, but it wasn't. OK though as I broke one mount during removal.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

this product made my new radio system very easy to install I was very happy with the simple installation process and the simple black color that came with the unit. I would suggest getting one of these if you have an aftermarket radio and if you want to make your car seem a little cooler.

Pros: aside from having the radio installed you can also have a little small compartment put your phone CDs and other accessories in your car while you drive. Some cars don't have the luxury of space to put your stuff while this allows you to.

Cons: the only con I can think of is the time that you have to take out to install one of these it takes about anywhere from 30 minutes if you're really good at it 2 to 3 hours because you also have to hook up the wiring if you bought a harness for your radio.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This kit was a perfect fit! No exaggeration. I had purchased another kit from a BIG BOX store that was manufactured by a reputable company that I have used in the past for my installs and that kit was far from being a close fit. The kit from the other manufacturer would have required me to trim my factory radio bezel. No Way Jose! I ordered this kit from Crutchfield.com and it was in my hands in 3 days free shipping too. To top it off it was less expensive than the kit purchased at the BIG BOX store. Crutchfield provided step by step, vehicle specific instructions, not that I needed them but it was nice to know that they were there in case I would have had any issues. This kit is exactly how an a/m kit should fit. The finish of the kit was also top notch. It blends in nicely with the rest of the interior. I am not a novice, I've been doing installs since 1992. Crutchfield ALWAYS comes through with top notch service & products.

Pros: Perfect fit, professional & excellent finish, easy install. Came with vehicle specific instructions.

Cons: NONE!

This replaced the stock "tray" that came with my Sonata. Kit fits perfectly. However, the stock one was "felt lined", this is not. Big deal....Also, it is a shade shorter so I cannot have 3 CD jewel cases stacked in it. Again, big deal. New radio has a USB so I don't need CDs anymore!

This is great and I love the easy to follow instructions on replacing the factory radio but... In order to make the whole set up work I had to jury-rig the receiver kit by drilling holes into the rear of the bottom slot.

I was confused at first by the installation because the piece I was sent was broken off the from the pocket that sits underneath the face frame. Also, my wife's Hyundai had a factory pocket installed already that was of considerably better quality than the one attached to the frame....I ended up removing the metal sleeve from around the stereo and adjusting the metal brackets to fit with the new stereo. Why wouldn't you include metal brackets that fit the stereo we bought, instead of the cheap plastic face/pocket combo? The attachment is much more solid on metal, versus the plastic. Just a thought...

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I replaced the Hyundai factory radio with a Clarion CZ-500. Crutchfield's illustrated instructions to remove the instrument panel were very clear and easy to follow. However the separate instructions with the new mounting kit did not state you needed to use the metal sleeve (DIN mount) with the new kit. I first used the side ISO mount brackets with the new kit. This left a noticable gap between the top of the receiver and instrument panel. My wife said it looked ghetto and made me redo it. After talking with customer support they told me to use the metal sleeve with the new mounting kit. This eliminated the gap and the final install looks great!

Overall install kit was good. Howver the cover plate would not fit under my dash trim. Had to use the one that came with the radio. Also, instructions were a bit confusing as I wasn't sure what to do when. A call to tech service cleared things up. Had to call a few times, but response time was great. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Following the instructions, this kit fit perfectly in my 2001 Hyundai Elantra GT (Hatchback). The final install, as everyone seems to say, looks as good or better than it came from the factory. Had no issues using the trim ring that came with the kit. JVC trim ring would never have worked. With the wiring harness already completed, it took about an hour and fifteen minutes for the install start to finish. The only issue I ran into was with the depth of my new radio (JVC KD-HD30) and the support bracket which is installed across the firewall to support the factory radio. Once I figured out what was happening, it was a simple thing to take out the four screws holding the bracket and re-install it about an inch lower on four existing screw holes, likely there for a different factory radio.

Looks Better Than the Factory Installation

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Crutchfield included this kit with my new Kenwood receiver for my 2005 Sonata. The end result looks fabulous, even better than the factory radio installation. A couple of comments on this kit. First, make sure to read ALL OF THE INSTRUCTIONS THAT CAME WITH THE KIT CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU BEGIN!!! Pay particular attention to these instructions: 1. Make sure to remove the trim ring from the new receiver BEFORE you try to install it. You will need to substitute it with the trim ring that came in the kit. Check the owners manual on the new receiver for the correct procedure to remove the trim ring. 2. After the new receiver is installed, you may need to make slight bending adjustments to the coin pocket on the kit, or the dash trim piece will not fit properly. Make sure that the front edges of the coin pocket go through the opening in the dash trim piece and you will not have any problems installing it. If you follow ALL of the instructions that came with the kit, you should not need to do any of the Dremel or cutting work that so many other customers have complained about.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Solid mount and good looking perfect fit. I installed a JVC HD receiver in my 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe. I too, was momentarily puzzled by the receiver face not fitting in the kit. However one uses the kit's trim ring (rectangle in the center of the photo above) in place of the receiver's trim ring. This is not clear in the instructions. The result is perfect - looks like a factory installation. The pocket under the radio is a perfect size for holding several CD cases. This kit makes installation easy.

This kit worked perfectly for my 2005 Sonata. Fit well with my 2005 Hyundai Elantra and once I figured out how it was put together it worked great with my new headunit. The directions for me were somewhat confusing but after working with Crutchfield's support I found out that the trim ring only connects to the front of the mounting kit and not the front of the headunit (which was confusing for me). Crutchfield's support was great and after everything was figured out the kit worked great. I'd certainly recommend this product.

Great Fit Looks Professional---But With Catch

Written by: Jason from St. Louis, MO on March 7, 2008

2001 Hyundai Santa Fe
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just installed this in my wife's 2001 Santa Fe and it looks perfect...EXCEPT, like with previous postings, the trim plate looked like it was going to be a pain to install. After I read the postings with the problems of the trim plate, I had reserved myself to some Dremel exercise (and actually started) but then looked at the trim ring that came with the Kenwood stereo (model KDC-138 which is a great basic stereo by the way) and NOT the kit. The Kenwood ring looked quite thinner and tapered the way I was needing to Dremel the kit ring. So, I tried the Kenwood ring, it snapped in the kit, and looks perfect with no Dremel work. Everything else snapped in place and it looks better than professional. It took 15 minutes to take out old, fix ring and put back together. So, there definitely seems to be a problem with the trim ring that comes with the installation kit, so I would try the trim ring that comes with your stereo. Kenwood's worked excellent so maybe others will too. Cheers and good luck!!!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

With the Dual XHD6425 head unit in a 2002 Sonata, I experienced the same problems as others here - the trim ring does not fit. This ring sits about 1/8th inch too far forward on the face, and as such I cannot put the instrument panel back on. Otherwise, the kit was perfect, the instructions were easy and concise, and I had no other problems. I should also add that Crutchfield customer support was excellent - very patient with the stupid questions I had on my first ever install. They're sending me another trim ring model to try, but barring that I'm going to have to do some dremel work. With my skills, that could really turn out ugly!

I upgraded my wife's stereo in her 2002 Santa Fe. I read the reviews before ordering, but was optimistic that I would not be facing the same trim ring problem as several others here have. No such luck. I was not about to spend all day with a Dremel doing what should have been done from the factory. Hello....... Does anyone from the company read the reviews. Other than the gaping horizontal slot above the unit, the installation went well. I'll address that later when I have time to waste. Sante Fe owners beware of this kit.

Now that the installation is finished (it required more work than it should have -- more on that later) it looks great in my '01 Santa Fe. A few years ago I had a different kit "professionally" installed for a different aftermarket head unit. This kit fits the dash opening much better than my old one did.

Though the kit fit the dash opening just fine, there were some problems with the fit of the trim ring over the head unit, a Kenwood KDC-X591. The front of the head unit, once mounted inside the kit's mounting bracket, protrudes out too far for the trim ring to fit flush with the rest of the mounting bracket.

I had to do some pretty extensive dremel work to remove enough material from the back/inside edges of the trim ring to make it fit.

But in the end, it looks perfect, none of the dremel work is visible from the front. The pocket underneath is nice and sturdy and is quite handy. Had the trim ring fit without any modification, I would have given this kit five stars.

I dare not take any more than this for fear of removing the 4 alignment pins on the outside corners. The trim ring is still too thick to allow the faceplate to drop down without snagging on it. Although I don't change CDs very often, I believe the repeated interference will eventually ruin the lower buttons on the faceplate. To this end, I am going to try to remove material from the left and right sides of the original Sony faceplate. It was tricky measuring the amount to remove, but the hardest part will be transferring the measurement to the front curved surface and then finding some way to hold it while removing the material evenly. I'm not sure how it will look when finished, but since everything is black, I may be able to touch up the sides with some high-gloss paint to hide any imperfections. I'll add another review if/when the task is completed. I should add that tech support did the best they could given the fact that they didn't design this kit. They're merely the reseller. However, they would have a better chance at contacting the vendor and possibly implementing a design change than I would. Also, this problem may only be with certain head units such as the MEX-1GP and others may have a faceplate that doesn't extend so far rearward. Obviously your mileage may vary.

I don't know what dimensions are because I put it in last tear. It was on a 2005 Hyundai Tlburon . It came with the install kit and it fit great. It was also a single Din size. [ JOHN M Apr 24, 2014 ]
