Relatively flimsy plastic and the "instructions" were little more than a joke. No help on the American International website either. With a little extra effort, I did get it installed and it looks okay.

I will say this i was hoping for a strong sturdy containment and watched the guy carefully put it together and asked him was it that fragile that he had to do that. His reply was yes and could have gotten something 5 bucks more for better quality at best buy lol too late now but now i know for future reference. Atleast he told me it will not break tho when u pass bumbs but it is cheaply mad. -_- metal parts are better. take a chance if you don't care and do research on reviews its always a gamble no matter what.

Pros: I can put my phn on the open space on the top.

Cons: Its fragile

Flimsy plastic, not very sturdy but gets the job done. Covered the hole in the dash. Crutchfield used to have better day kits.

Pros: Covers the hole in the dash.

Cons: Flimsy, cheap, instructions could be better.

Kit was easy to use and fit the space as advertised - liked the open cubby space concept The plastic was not as rigid as expected and the replacement bracket did not affix to the dash pop out to form one unit as the original unit however it was not an overall issue

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I realize how hard it must be to make an adapter for each vehicle that is made. Therefore these must be somewhat generic. I did not expect a perfect fit and had to trim just a bit from the adapter. Got it to fit tightly and once on the receiver it nestled right into the dash. Works well

Pros: Generic enough to fit with just a little bit of creativity.

Cons: None

Works, but you need to think beyond the instructions

Written by: mbbp from Alaska on August 28, 2015

Ok, so the instructions are pretty much worthless. They don't explain the difference between single din mount, iso mount or double din mount. For my 2002 camry I used the iso-mount instructions, but don't use the little plastic spacer things, the screws won't fit (not long enough) if you do. Once you get the kit assembled, installing it in the dash can be tricky. I found the easiest way was to angle it down when initially inserting then make sure the screw holes line up evenly, I was able to get the kit flush against the dash using this method. After it was installed it looked great, but I'm sure there are better kits out there.

Pros: looks great if installed correctly

Cons: cheap plastic, difficult to assemble

The kit is pretty simple to use. Required some modifications to get it to fit correctly. The instructions leave out some very important steps.

Pros: Easy to assemble.

Cons: Instructions need to be a little more detailed. Kit does not go in as easily as the instructions infer. Some modifications had to be made to allow for a correct fit.

Was a puzzle to assemble - but good enough when assembled

Written by: Ethan P from Virginia on June 2, 2015

2005 Toyota Camry
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Assembling this thing was obnoxiously tricky - almost like a logic puzzle. At first, I tried to do it intuitively, without paying much attention to the instructions. After some frustration, I followed the instructions very closely, and became even more frustrated. Eventually, I asked a spatially-minded friend for help, and she was able to assemble it (with similar frustration). I took the flimsy box to the car and Tetris'ed it in and (once in), it was sturdy and held the single-DIN unit in snugly - matching the car's interior well enough.

Pros: -Snug fit -Sturdy construction -Good enough fit-and-finish -Matches interior trim well enough

Cons: -Assembly can be very frustrating. If you are prone to uncontrollable anger, consider medicating yourself heavily before attempting to assemble.

Overall this product is great. It was very easy to install. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the plastic facing had an extra piece of plastic (like it hadn't been trimmed off) that I had to deal with. It didn't make anything look bad though, so I would still recommend this.

This is what I have come to expect from the team at Crutchfield. This kit and the supplied wiring accessories was top notch for fitment and appearance A simple and short call to the tech department and my needs were met and my product was on the way. My install was clean, quick and just the way I like. Professional. Just like Team Crutchfield!!

Pros: This is the kit I needed to do the job. It fits like a glove for the Camry installation just as advertised.

Cons: Not a one.

Dash kit for 04 Toyota Camry

Written by: pulsev2 from Sacramento CA on August 23, 2014

2004 Toyota Camry
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I couldn't be more pleased with the way my install turned out using this kit. The instructions are a little heard to follow, but here it is in a nutshell-for a regular din size standard head unit-(for 2004 camry) - Remove the inner bezel ring on the biggest size trim ring. it slides out from behind.(discard) - notice how the empty pocket will fit inside. Installed, the pocket will slant downward at the rear. - Take the 2 side pieces with holes in them and make sure the screw holes will go UNDER the radio. (just like the picture) Slide the small tabs (4 on each side into the 4 slots in the back of the big trim ring) - when you have the side pieces snapped in correctly , the holes on the back of the bracket will line up EXACTLY with the holes on the back of the pocket. Install those screws. After the radio is installed in the chassis, I installed a screw in each side of the radio thru the slot in the center of the plate. It lines up PERFECTLY. - When all complete, This forms an assembly which is super solid. Nothing should have to be forced, tweaked, or pried AT ALL. If it doesn't fit right, you are doing something wrong.

Pros: When complete, forms an impressive assembly which is super rigid and solid for a great install. All screw holes lined up PERFECTLY. On the kit, and in the car.

Cons: Somewhat confusing instructions. Small drain slots in the back of the pocket. If somehow water got in this pocket, it would drain directly down into the radio.

I found this to fit exactly as it was supposed to in my car dash. It was a little confusing knowing which directions I should use as well as how it all should be fit together since it didn't include where the stereo itself should go. But I was able to figure it out.

Cons: Confusing directions Plastic (the one in my car originally was metal)

Installed in a 2003 Toyota Camry, good fit, item quality was below my expectation, but OK for the price. I just figured out how to mount it following the shape of the removed audio metal frame which was really strong and I wished I could re-use. The instruction included in the kit was basically useless. There were no extra screws needed.

Pros: Looks good after the installation.

Cons: Flimsy plastic.

Kind of cheap

The texture and color of the plastic was an exact match to the adjoining plastic in the car. It was a nice fit and looked great when install was complete. The structure of it was kind of cheap and not very sturdy. I hope it holds up. The instructions were very poor and not very detailed. I was not overly impressed. I didn't feel it measured up to the quality of ones I've gotten from Crutchfield in the past.

Pros: Nice fit and finish.

Cons: Cheap, flimsy plastic.

fits perfect and looks great in my 2002 camry

Written by: Jim from Columbia, MO on March 5, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

A few things I learned that might help you as well... I was confused when I opened the package and couldn't seem to find the main frame. After calling tech support, I discovered that the double DIN trim plate and the main frame were already put together. If you plan to build up the kit for a single DIN receiver, you'll need to first remove the double DIN face plate, then insert the single DIN faceplate into the main frame. (A double DIN head unit is one that is tall and fills up the entire space available in the 2002 camry. A single DIN receiver is the shorter style head unit that only takes up half of the stereo opening for the 2002 camry. "ISO" mounting means the standard factory mounting screw locations on the sides of the receiver. On my 2002 camry, this installation kit is too wide to slide in if you install the ISO spacers on the sides, but if you just screw in the screws so it slightly bends the plastic sides in closer to the sides of the head unit then the assembly will slide right in as a perfect fit. Also, I was able to insert the ground screw from the harness under the upper mounting bolt on the left side, and between the fake metal layer and the metal frame behind it. This seems to make a good connection with the bare metal frame of the car. I hope this helps. Jim

Pros: Looks very clean and professional after installation.

Cons: The plastic is very thin and flimsy, so be very careful installing the face plate and installing the assembly.

Does the job

Written by: Hash from Memphis, TN on March 5, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Kit will require modification for a DOUBLE DIN Headunit. There are no lines, guides, or perferations for trimming the kit so you have one shot at it. Its not tough though with a dremmel. Cant really complain at the price, but if a higher quality option that had better fitment was available, even at a higher price, I would have went that route.

Pros: gets the job done.

Cons: Fit requires a bit of work, quality of materials could be better

So-so

Written by: Blind Hog from Alabaster, AL on February 2, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a bit confusing to put together, and I was skeptical of the press-to fit sides, but they worked. When installing it into my 2003 Camry, it just refused to go into the slot. After several tries I found that it was necessary to press the sides of the mounting kit inwards against the stereo to make it fit. I used the Sony trim plate instead of the kit trim plate. More trouble than it could have been. I can compare it to the Metra single-din kit we used to install in my son's same generation (generation 5) Camry--the Metra was easier to understand, easier to slip into the car, but its pocket was a royal pain to press onto the faceplate, requiring a lot of force, and flexing the flacepate to make it fit.

Pros: Works better than it looks like it is going to. Only have to do it once since it's an ISO DIN, from now on, as long as I just buy a DIN receiver, I'll be able just to slip it into the car.

Cons: A bit confusing to install, requires some troubleshooting to get it to install into the car.

We needed to get help from Crutchfield as the mounting kit needed modifications and didn't seem like it really was meant for the Pioneer radio or the Camry. The face plate/trim was flimsy and didn't fit right so we didn't use it.

Pros: With modifications, ultimately was made to work

Cons: Didn't seem like it was meant to work with the Pioneer radio. Flimsy construction of the face plate trim that didn't fit.

This kit did not fit my application-double din. Using the standard supplied trim ring there was about 1/2 inch space around the radio. Had to modify the other trim ring (double iso) to fill in this space (Crutchfield's soloution). This is a very poor soloution. I will be replacing this kit with one from another vendor.

Pros: It is a kit, it does some of the job. Low cost.

Cons: Cheap plastic. Low quality. Did not suite my application.

Along with the wiring harness, I gave both of 'em to the installers and that was everything they needed to make it work and fit perfectly. Loving my new system now and looks seamless installed into the dash. (I didn't install it myself so I can't comment on ease of installation with accompanying instructions)

Agree with what many others have said: it's a bit of a head scratcher to assemble this kit. Instructions aren't too clear. Once assembled it seems kind of flimsy, but mounted in the dash it seems secure enough. Had to wrestle a bit to get the proper angle to slide into the dash of an '02 Camry.

Disappointing for double DIN!

Written by: Brian A from Trinity, NC on January 7, 2013

2005 Toyota Camry
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was a huge disappointment from the start! You have to cut the plastic for a double DIN, which looked horrible. Several pieces were molded poorly whth one piece looking broken then heated back together. If you put it together as it is intended, a double DIN head has huge gaps that I could put my pinky into. I had to cut and hack to even make it look acceptable. If there were a star rating for zero that is what I would have given it!

Pros: Your better off adapting the factory brackets!!!

Cons: Everything - moulding, fit, etc.

This kit is relatively simple to put together, although the instructions could be more clear. Once together, it's simple to drop into the dash and matches the factory looks pretty well. Confusing manual but great kit

Written by: emptystreets130 from Dallas, TX on January 31, 2012

2003 Toyota Camry
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The kit is great and in my option better than the Metra kit. The kit and all the pieces sits flush to the dash which makes the installation clean. The only down side was the instruction manual. It was ok until I got to the last step for the single din unit and that was to install the ISO DIN mount that came with the new head unit. I wasn't thinking clearing and forgot to put the sleeve on. It was too late to put that in since I already installed the new head unit into the car and the dash was already together. With that being said, the provide screw was too short and was probably meant for a DD unit. I just ditched the ISO DIN sleeve and just used long screws to secure the head unit to the kit. Works fine.

Pros: Great fit, sits flush with dash.

Cons: instruction needs more visual to explain the different parts that is required for an installation. Some people will not know what an ISO din sleeve is until it's too late.

Better than expected

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My greatest reluctance to change to a different head unit was the adaptor kit made for the Toyota Camry 2002. Other folks had mentioned the chinciness of the material, and the lack of solid feel of the kit. All the folks in the end said when it was assembled it did seem to do the job. So, despite those fears that it was going to be a washout and I would have to look for a better kit I decided to forge on and was rewarded with agreement that the kit did work and the head unit felt secure and quite aesthetic when assembled

Pros: Looks good and feels secure in the dash. The analogy I would give is that no sodlier could win the war alone, but when you put all the soldiers together you have an army that could stand up to the mission.

Cons: Plastic seems kind of chincy and not as strong as one would expect for the holding the head unit in place.

Pain

Written by: Mike M from Baltimore Md on January 2, 2012

Used this for my 2006 Camry as single din with pocket. Very flimsy feel to it, was a pain to assemble and the instructions where not very good but once you figure it out, assemble it, and attach to the radio, it looks good. When it was time to install it to my dash it did not fit, both sides would not go in properly but I was able to settle it in by slightly bending the one side that was not going in and it slid in nice and snug.

Pros: pretty good looks

Cons: hard to assemble

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I read the reviews before buying this and was a little unsure about it. But, I found it easy to install in my 2006 Camry. The box fit perfectly for the original screws to be reinserted without any modifications required. The radio mounted easily into the box. The frame around the radio is a little flimsy, so you need to take a little extra care to insure you don't break it, but the kit fit together well. I took the time to put everything in place before mounting it in the car. You have to play with a few parts to get them in the right position, but that isn't unusual if you've ever put anything that is in a kit together. It fits in the original radio area as if it were the original.

Believe it or not, this was the most frustrating part of the installation of the new head unit for our Camry. It took a while to figure out exactly how to hold the panels in place and keep everything together. But once I incorporated the slot, or tray that goes over the single-din head unit, along with the front facing and one side panel, it became easier to assemble with a screw to get things solidly- enough assembled so I could set it down and use two hands to work with the next side panel. That's really only worth one star off. Unfortunately, when I screwed the second screw into the tray with the second side panel, the plastic around the screw cracked loudly with relatively little force. I don't believe it will turn into a problem, but time will tell. In summary, the quality of the plastic is apparently lacking and assembly is a minor frustration. Given my overall experience with Crutchfield and all they supplied to make my purchase successful, I would still recommend the purchase to someone else.

Near Factory Looks

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Received this kit as part of my order when I purchased the Pioneer DEH 3200UB receiver. The instructions were a bit complex for a beginner so it took some time to figure out if I was going to use a DIN or ISO mount. That's the part where it could have used a little more explanation. I didn't know that using one or the other required me to take the metal "sleeve" off my receiver. Just took about an hour for me to play around with different configurations before finding the right one, but once I got everything together, the receiver and kit slid right into the dash. Looks almost factory installed, except for a little chip in the corner (which is how it came). Would have given it five stars if the instructions were clearer and it didn't have that chip. Otherwise, can't complain since it was included free of charge. Still amazed at how Crutchfield takes care of its customers.

This kit is way too wide & tall for my dash trim opening of approx: 8.1" x 4.1" . The quality of this kit looks cheap & extremely filmsy. Now I'm stuck between using my new Head unit without a proper dash kit or to waste more money to custom build a dash kit/new dash trim that will fit like the stock radio,

2002 TOYOTA CAMRY IN-DASH STEREO KIT

Written by: Haytz from OCEAN, NJ on March 8, 2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

the toyota camry kit did the job well in replacing the stock car stereo to a new single din kenwood car stereo... the included instruction and special manual on how to remove the stock stereo really help a lot to make installation very easy... the kit was made of cheap plastic but serves it's purpose well.. once everything was installed it really matches the interior and which makes the kit look not that cheap.... i would say crutchfield did it's best by including such manual free of charge... so that would be a 5 star for crutchfield and 4 star for the kit because of the material used but really serves it's purpose

This aftermarket fits well, not an exact/precise fit but well enough to do the job. Had some issues with instructions, could not fully understand or implement all that it said, resulted in having to improvise a little, but in the end it did the job quite nicely.

The instructions were pretty clear, although when we were done the new receiver + kit was about 1/4" too far up, making it impossible to reinsert the dashboard piece surrounding it. We discovered that the kit had a ratcheting feature and were able to move it down far enough to get the dashboard piece back in securely. Looks really good, like it was part of the original setup (only better).

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This Double-DIN to Single-DIN dash adapter kit was free with Pioneer DEH-2100IB. It worked for the installation in my 2003 Camry, but with quirks. Pros: - This or a similar kit is a necessity to install a single DIN stereo into a double DIN opening. - The final install looks nice. The kit fits the dash and looks flush with the trim. Cons: - The instructions were not clear, especially for a novice. I tried using the sleeve included with the stereo, but I could not find any that would hold the sleeve SECURELY. - The included screws for attaching a stereo to the kit are not long enough. - One the screw sockets on the rear of the pocket cracked - fixed with epoxy. - The edges have artifacts from manufacturing. I spent some time cleaning the edges, but then realized that all uneven edges were covered by the dash trim. Some bumps were preventing the kit from fitting into the dash opening and had to be shaved off. - The whole kit has a wobbly feel to it. I used epoxy to strengthen the joints and provide integrity - this could be over-engineering, but it made the kit less wobbly. - The parts of the brackets for the mounting screws are thin. I would like to tighten mounting screws more, but was afraid to break brackets. That said, the final install seems quite secure. I wish I could use the metal brackets that came with my car's factory stereo. Regardless of all the cons that made the install unintuitive and worrisome, this kit worked OK at the end.

Not a good fit for 2din

Written by: kitt from L.A. on November 7, 2009

If you install the 2 din system, it will not fit easily. Have to cut the top bar of the frame off. The bottom have to grind off, otherwise, it will block the screen from tilting (7" screen). Both left and right sides need to be cover with the another internal frame (one with a bar in the middle); it has to be cut and trim to fit. Isn't this design to fit 2 din in a Gen 5 camry?? A lot of work to get it to fit for 2 din.

A pain to set up the front panels of it kept coming off. THe fact it is made of plastic made me extra careful when screwin it to the car. (Did not want to put too much torque and crack it). Hopefully it will last. I do hope crutchfield will look into sturdier mounts that do not fall apart all the time and are easier to set up

Thank Crutchfield deal and God, that I got it free with the HU purchase. Because of them I could afford a professional to fit the HU in my car, and he had difficulty in fitting it in. I shudder to think if it was me who was doing the installation. The build is definitely filmsy, screws are misfit, corners had to be cut to adjust the fit... 3 out of 5, only because it came free to me........

Thanks to Crutchfield for including this mounting kit free of charge. I used it to install a my Kenwood KDC-BT742U in my 2005 Camry. The kit definitely did the job ... a nice finished looking installation; much better than my teenage days of cobbling something together. I assembled the unit and it dropped right in place; holes lined up perfectly. I do have to echo two of the sentiments that I saw in other reviews: 1) The plastic did seem to be a bit on the light side, although I have to admit that I over-engineer everything. Post install, the radio is solid and seems to be solidly held in place. 2) The instructions were definitely on the sketchy side ... keep at it, like a jigsaw puzzle, and you'll figure out the pieces that you need to use. Overall, good product that did the job. It would have taken hours longer and much more custom work if it wasn't available.

This cheap plastic kit is extremely badly designed and flimsy. Its so flimsy that you are worrier you will snap it by just holding it. The factory frame for Toyota is nice sturdy metal frame - I wish there was a way to use that to install a new reciever. This is not worth the price Crutchfield demands for it.

This kit did not fit the stereo right. too much space on either side. to top it all off after mounting it all up and puting everything back together its the wrong size. it was way too big for the old opening and i couldnt put my vents or clock trim back on... so now i have to run down to the audio shop and hope they have some quality ones that they wont charge me an arm and a leg for. good luck with this one. if it wasn't free i'd send it back. now its just going in the trash.

Used this to install a single-DIN JVC receiver to replace the factory stereo in my 2003 Camry. The finished product looks good. It was a little tricky to put together at first as there are some optional pieces depending on what kind of install you are doing... once I realized which ones were necessary and which ones were optional, it was pretty straightforward.

Trim ring is a problem

Written by: Scott from Erlanger, KY on May 14, 2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This thing was a pain to put together and in order to make it work for a double din receiver which is what I bought for my 2002 Camry. In order to make the trim ring fit, you have to cut off the center bar and then I shaved the remainder off with a file. The trim ring will not stay seated properly and the top part of the trim ring sticks out forward because it is sized improperly or something. Not the best product. The receiver is nice, but the fact that it isn't built to accommodate a dual din size receiver is disappointing.

For a normal (single DIN) receiver this is a reasonalbly good kit. The final fit was a little less than a factory fit but looked OK. The stroage area is a good use of the additional space that was left over from the original receiver.

The bad is that the kit has a lot of different pieces to put together to get the final mount. The instructions are a bit lacking. But in the end it is functional and does not look that bad.
