Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Looks great and matches the existing trim almost perfect. Took only a few minutes to make and install and secures my receiver great. Plus it came free with the purchase of my receiver.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It certainly fits in the vehicle well but the stereo I got had a large touch screen and the mounting didn't accommodate that. I had to use a fine dremel to adjust a lot of the pieces so they'd fit. Now that it's in, it looks great though

Doesn't work for Double-DIN without modifying

Written By Chris, Idaho on Sunday, May 20, 2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

You'll notice in the pictures it that it doesn't include separate trim pieces for a Double-Din size. The kit requires you to cut the center divider and file the edges smooth. The areas you have to cut and file are visible after installation. You have to the cut off the back of the side pieces so they don't hit the sides of the Double-Din radio. The slots in the side pieces don't line up very well with the standard DIN mounting holes, and you might have to drill or enlarge a few holes if you want more than 2 screws holding the radio in. The included screws were also too short. They really should call this a single-DIN kit that you can modify into a Double-Din kit.

Noticed the same bow in the upper edge of the trim that Dustin mentioned after final installation, and fixed that by pushing in until it slipped back under the edge of the upper stock trim panel.

Pros: It does replace the standard DIN trim ring and mounts the radio nice and flush.

Cons: Requires non-trivial modification to actually work as a Double-DIN kit. The finish is rougher than the surrounding panel, but that badly mismatched.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The fit and finish where only ok on this product. I had to make modifications to allow the dash trim piece surrounding the mount to fit. Also the texture of the mount does not in any way match the surfaces in the vehicle.

Pros: Solid mount

Cons: Finishis off and the figment was slightly off

It does what its made for

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a 06 Vw Passat , My Factory nav screen went out on me so I got a Sony unit , this was very easy to put together do do a double din face in my factory spot. Ok the plastic look plain , I plain to wrap it to make it look different using the carbon fiber wrap.

Pros: Does what its made for to hold the Radio and fit it in my factory spot.

Cons: None really

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Looks great with the JVC KW-NT50HDT.

Pros: Truly factory finish appearance.

Cons: Cannot use the detactable face functionality of the receiver. Slight modifications required to use the receiver's screws, but not a big deal.

Worked fine, looks good

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Used this in my 08 VW Eos to replace the factory double-DIN with a single DIN Sony. The little storage compartment underneath is good looking and useful. Relatively easy install, but I found getting the compartment into the bottom slot to be a bit of a chore.

worked good for me

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was leery about this product due to it not getting great reviews here, but I
didn't really have much of a choice from Crutchfield. Therefore, I decided to
just give it a try with my order & hope for the best.

It went in a 2007 VW Passat sedan and fit perfectly with my single DIN JVC
receiver. Its flat black (vs silver dash), but this didn't bother me like it
seems to with other reviews I have read. Since I am using it with a single DIN
receiver, I also have the extra pocket for CDs and misc items.

All in all, it has worked great for my vehicle and stereo. As usual, Crutchfield
support has been awesome & now my only place to go to for car stereo gear.

Problems with fit and finish

Written By Stewart, APO Germany on Monday, February 14, 2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My vehicle: 2009 VW Jetta with single DIN radio

The model #003VWK1017 installation kit was an American International brand kit. While it fit, there was a noticeable bow at the top of its frame. Also, its finish was very rough and stood out dramatically from the rest of the dash.

This was better than the first kit I selected, the Metra 99-9010. I'm not sure why Crutchfield sent this one as I later found, out after it did not fit, that the Metra site says this model is discontinued.

I decided to get the Metra 99-9011 This particular model has the best fit and finish of them all. Crutchfield should stock this kit.

VW Mounting Kit

Written By Noo, Bay Area, CA on Wednesday, November 17, 2010

I got this mounting kit for my Clarion NX500. I drive a 2010 Golf and this unit
fit perfectly, no bowing or anything like that. As other reviewers have
mentioned, my console is smooth and this kit has textured face plates. It still
looks pretty darn good though. Not sure which VW models have the textured
consoles that would match the unit, but I would have given this 4 stars for a
smooth texture.

Another small complaint I had was that for double DINs, there was a plastic bar
across the faceplate that you had to snap off. This left rough edges on the
sides that I had to file down that are still slightly visible. I haven't found
a better alternative, so I'm relatively happy with this kit.

If it does'nt fit

So-So product

Written By Dustin, Marysville, WA on Thursday, October 01, 2009

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

+ Product fits as advertised.

- The finish is wrong, has a medium textured grain pattern that does not match the smooth finish of the rest of the console it fits in.
- Top edge of the ring, that is above the stereo, bows down. This creates a fairly large gap that is not at all attractive in the top center of the of the trim between the stereos trim ring and the console trim.
- This is a 1-din/2-din universal kit, which requires you to cut the center rib for 2-din, and file smooth. Not a problem to do, but I was annoyed at having to do a bunch of work to get this to fit.
- Abysmal instructions. They will only tell you what the parts are. Using this kit required a significant departure from the instructions provided with any car stereo. The least they could do would be to mention some key points. Things such as not using the install sleeve that comes with the stereo would have been nice to not have to figure out on my own.
- You will need screws to attach your stereo to this kit. It is quite likely the screws you get with your stereo won't be long enough to fit, as the side plates of this kit are fairly thick plastic.
