About the Crutchfield CKD4

Buck Pomerantz

Deliver the power your amps deserve

Crutchfield's 4-gauge dual amplifier wiring kit contains the wire and hardware necessary to supply power to two amplifiers safely, efficiently, and economically. Power ratings and amp efficiency

Most amplifiers come in two distinct "Classes" of technology with different efficiencies and power wire size requirements. This Crutchfield wiring kit was designed to accommodate the energy demands of two Class AB amplifiers with a combined total output of up to 700 watts RMS — a 50 watts x 4 speaker amplifier plus a 500-watt sub amp, for example. For Class D amps, the kit will work with up to 1,100 watts RMS total output — a 75 watts x 4 amp plus a 750-watt sub amp, for example.

CTA-2015 Compliant

Crutchfield wire

Crutchfield wire is made of oxygen-free copper, with no impurities that could raise its resistance to a signal's flow or add interference. Crutchfield wire meets all Consumer Technology Association (CTA-2015) standards for size, resistance, and insulation quality.

Q
Anyone else having issues with the covers falling off? I have bought a few of these kits in the last year and have lost 3 covers.
allen  Feb 16, 2024

A
This is not an issue that we have documented, Allen. Depending on the install location of the fuse blocks, they could have some vibration or other issue that could be causing them to fall off. If the issue persists with your specific install location, you could swap in the T-Spec style that I have linked below that has a bit firmer connection with the plastic cover. We are always here to help! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_120VFDB2/T-Spec-v12-Series-VFDB2.html

Q
Do you need another fuse at the car battery?
shannon  Dec 31, 2020

A
For powering the amp you'll need an appropriately rated fuse preferably within about 6 inches of your power source/battery to make sure it's properly protected.. here's a good starting guide for amp installation for more tips. https://www.crutchfield.com/learn/learningcenter/car/amplifier_installation_guide.html

I dont think so! Kit worked great for me!
rich  Dec 31, 2020
A
Actually, the best place for the fuse is by the battery. By installing the fuse near the battery if the power feed to the amp is nicked by a sharp edge, cut, or melted the fuse will blow. If you mount the fuse by the amp you will have a long run of high amp cable still live despite a popped fuse.

Q
Will this supply enough power to a 500w RMS mono and a 4x100w RMS full range? the fuse ratings are 60 and 50 amp, 110 combined amperage rating max.

II babe a 500 watt rms amp plus a 60 watt X 4 rms amp running smoothly wwitho ut aany battery drain or flicker.

Q
In an article about choosing the wiring on here it says to double the amp's watts because of the efficiency loss. Does the maximum watts on this product already assume this? so if I had a 400 watt amp and 250 watt amp would this kit work? if i have to double that it would be over the 1100 watt figure.

Yes that will work make sure you ground your amps first and in the same spot . That's called common ground

TThis kit works. I have a 4-channel amp (800watt) and a mono amp (500watt). This is the kit you need for the power you choose.

Q
I'm new to these kind of things with subs and stuff but does this connect the radio to the amp then to the subs or do I have to get a separate wiring harnes to connect the amp to the radio?

A
No. The wiring comes with this system. This is all you need.
rick  Mar 21, 2017

If one amp, your all good. Multiple amps need extra rca jacks to plug into the amplifiers. I installed 2 amps, one mono amp, one 4-channel amp. I had to buy 2 more rca jacks. This gives me more control to remain the music. Although, you can run the single rca then use line splitters to connect multiple amps, that leaves the amps as the only control over the sound.
stephen  Mar 20, 2017

This wiring kit is awesome but it only brings power from your battery to your amps. You run the heavy gauge wire from the battery to a splitter and you can power 2 amps. Then the 2nd splitter is used to ground both amps. You will most likely need separate RCA cables (or wires if you are feeding from the radio speaker outputs) to connect from the head unit to the anps.
mark  Mar 20, 2017

This kit is for connecting two separate amps to the car's battery and ground. The kit also has a wire that connects to the radio that signals the amp to turn on when the radio is on. You will need additional RCA cables to connect the audio signal from the radio to the amps.
zac  Mar 19, 2017

This kit has a ~16gauge blue wire that is connected to most after market head units (radio) as the "remote wire". This would tell the amp the radio has been turned on, and the amp would use thst signal tp turn itself on. This lit is used to provide adequate power to the amp, which needs a good ground source (black wire) connect to a screw so that contact can be made with bare metal. The red wire in this kit is connected to the + battery terminal with the provided fuse ~12in from the battery, the other end goes to the + terminal on the amp. The actual sound signal connection between the amp and the head unit is done with speaker wire (high level) or RCA cables with on cable pair per speaker. Crutchfield has great tutorials and diagrams on their site with more details than I can provide here.

Hi - This kit is just for power. The red wire will connect to your car battery, run through the firewall, and back to your amp(s), which are usually mounted in the trunk. The black wire is for ground. You will ground your amp(s) to your car chassis. You will need a separate wire harness for the back of your stereo along with RCA cables that will run from the back of your stereo to your amps. You will also need speaker wire to run from your amps to your speakers (usually 16-18 gauge). Hope this helps.
gabe  Mar 19, 2017
A
I think this will answer your question. In short, it connects your battery to amplifier via fat power cord. There is also a thin wire that connects your radio to the on/off remote on your amp. It doesn't include the "rca" cables, which connect your radio to your amp.
braden  Mar 19, 2017

This kit powers two amps. You'll need to add a set of RCA interconnects, either 2 or 4 channel or both depending on your set up. Now your subs plug into your sub/mono amp which you'll need speaker wire for those....
damon  Mar 19, 2017

This kit is just for powering an amp. Comes with power and ground wire and fuse blocks. You'll need rca cables to connect an aftermarket head unit unless you're using your stock head unit.
