Extend your remote's reach with this two-piece system from Powermid. It can transmit your remote's signals through walls, floors, and furniture. It's perfect for folks who want to conceal their A/V gear inside a cabinet or closet for a clean, stylish look. And with its 100-foot range, Powermid is also a great option for multi-room audio/video systems.

Simple to set up and use
Getting started is a snap. First, plug the transmitter into a standard power outlet, and place it in a location where you can comfortably aim your remote — beside your television, for example. Next, plug the receiver into a standard power outlet, and position it in front of the audio/video components you want to control. Once you've set up both units, you can send commands to your gear through using a multi-brand IR (infrared) remote control. You probably already have some of these around the house, from your TV, DVD player, cable box, or other common A/V components.

How Powermid works
When you press a command like "play" on your remote, the transmitter changes the IR signal to an RF (radio frequency) signal, and sends it to the receiver positioned in front of your A/V gear. Unlike IR signals, RF signals don't require line-of-sight, and can travel through floors, walls, and cabinets. Once the receiver picks up the RF signal, it translates it back to IR. Then it passes your "play" command on to your A/V gear in one big IR blast.

Expanding your Powermid system
You can expand this flexible setup to accommodate additional rooms. If you'd like to control components located in multiple areas of your house from one room, you can install additional Powermid receivers. If you'd like to control your A/V gear from multiple rooms around your house, as in a multi-room A/V system, you can install additional Powermid transmitters.

If your A/V gear is housed in a cabinet that's too shallow to accommodate the receiver, you can use the compact Powermid extender to send IR signals to those components. The extender is also handy if your TV and A/V components are located in separate areas of the room.

Great product for distance

This product solved our projector remote distance problem. Our church projector remote only worked in 27 feet. We increased the distance to 65 feet with the Powermid. Now we can control the projector from the back of the sanctuary instead of in front of everyone. Thank you for solving our remote distance problem.

A terrific product that works as well or better than promoted. It never fails to accurately and reliably repeat the infrared signals for three devices located in a closed systems closet. Thanks, Crutchfield for the very good and inexpensive solution!

Very pleased (mostly)

We purchased these units so be able to control our Onkyo TX-SR806 and Sony 300 CD changer while out on the patio. We have zone 2 hooked up to a pair of Klipsch AW-650 speakers. AWESOME! Worth every penny!

The X-10 systems works nicely. However, it has started picking up stray RF signals and randomly changing the cable box channels on us. It has only happened a few times. Since we only use it when outside, I just turn the inside receiver unit so it isn't facing the TV system when we are inside. That is the only shortcoming of this system.

Great little gadget! I will be buying more of the receivers to put around the house. I use the original one outside during pool parties to control all of my equipment back inside. So far works with any remote that is based off of IR.
I use it currently to control my amp, ipod, tv, SACD Player, DVD player. The beauty of it is that you simply plug both units into the wall outlet and that is it!!

I was leary about getting this but the Crutchfield rep was right, it works great. Be careful, though, you need about 6 inches of space in front of your equipment for it to see all the devices.

Excellent Plug & Play Product

Written By Clark, Tulsa, OK on Friday, May 08, 2009

I have a 50" Plasma mounted in the wall, with an HDMI cable running under the house and into the media closet, which contains my Xbox360, cable box, reciever, and home computer. they are switched through the reciever. I purchased this because my Terk was not getting the job done.

It was simple plug and play. i wasn't sure this would work, so i bought only one extra receiver. I am using one for my reciever and one for my cable box, with the transmitter hidden under my tv in a bookshelf. this equipment worked flawlessly as soon as i plugged it in. i'm planning on ordering one more for the xbox360 remote. i highly recommend this product.

This works better than the Jensen model. They all get interference from LCD TV's. This one would still work even with the LCD interference. The best thing to do is make sure it is away from the TV.

I don't normally write reviews but these things are so great I felt I had to. I plugged them in and all my components worked perfectly. I am in the habit of pointing my remote at the TV when ever I want to do anything and the transmitter, which is about 5 feet to the left of my TV, still picked up everything.
Not only does this work great it seems to be the cheapest way to control components placed in another room or closet. I looked into all sorts of ways to accomplish this and all seemed to be at least $100 and you have to go through the hassle of running wires. These are so cheap I think I have payed more for a single cable than I did for these.
Great product! Best home entertainment investment I have ever made!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Works great. I bought units for each room so I could control the stereo from anywhere in my house. It was very easy to set up and the Receiver produced a strong enough IR signal that it worked putting the pyramid on top of the stereo and having the IR bounce off of the wall. The unit doesn't necessarily need to be in direct sight of the stereo if your existing remote works bouncing off of walls.

X-10 Powermid...Works Great!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

We use the X-10 Powermind to control our FIOS STB, which is located on the first floor, from the second floor bedroom directly above STB. We never watch TV in both locations at the same time so why pay 9.95 a month for another STB? Everything works great...No problems at all. Set up was simple as it gets.

Great Product.

Works for me!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This product works for me; however, it could be better.
It requires that you to point your remote precisely at the receiving unit, or it will not work.
If you, like I did, placed the Receiving unit and the transmitting unit on a shelf about 9 feet above the floor, the units needs to be tilted so that the remote beams are parallel to the bottom of the units.
It sure beats the alternative, since my equipment is located behind my chairs!

Decent but easily picks up interference.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this when our new house was built as I was putting all components in a media closet. It works OK although the range is pretty short - only about 10 feet from your remote to the transmitter.

The biggers problem is that it picks up my neighbors (plural!) home RF systems and randomly starts changing channels, rewinding the DVR...turning on HGTV during the final minutes of a close football game.

I finally had to unplug it as I was being driven to the absolute brink of insanity. I don't understand how I have to aim like a sniper from 10 feet away to get it to work in my house while my neighbors can control it all from the comfort of their living rooms.

Then NEED to make these with changeable frequencies. They all use the same ones so if anyone withing 200 yards of you has an RF system, you are going to lose your mind. Hard wire if you can, otherwise, take your chances.

I bought this product to use in our great room. We placed our HD cable box in the basement immediately below our great room so that we could have a clean look for our flat screen.

The transmitter works fine when I am within 15 feet and pointing the remote directly at the transmitter. However, I am disappointed with the range (probably more of an issue with the remote than the transmitter though). I would recommend for smaller rooms. I could not find anything else for a comparable price.

Very simple to set up and use. Works as expected. My cable box and DVD player are now hidden away out of sight. The only disadvantage of this product compared to the more expensive and harder to install IR extender systems, is the relatively large footprint of the pyramid transmitter and receiver. If you want something that will be completely hidden, it's worth looking into those other IR extender systems. Otherwise, you can't beat this product for the price and ease of use.

does not work

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've had this for over a year. The transmitter apparantly gets interference from some source and randomly starts scrolling through channels on my cable box/dvr. Neither Crutchfield nor the manufacturer can solve the problem. I have the transmitter and equipment in a closed cabinet below the TV.

We have troubleshot this extensively. (I got a new cable box--different type--and it still does it. I tried disconnecting all powermid receivers and it still does it--so the problem is the transmitter. I've tried moving the tranmitter to the other side of the cabinet--about 4 feet away--and it still does it. With crutchfield's great service, they replaced the powermid transmitter even though it was more than a year, but the new one does it too.)

I've spent about $200 on the initial system and extra receivers around the house. Great concept, but it's useless. Beware. Despite the other glowing reviews, it may not work in your house.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After looking at several much more expensive solutions for controlling my closet located AV gear, I came across this unit and decided it was worth a shot for the money.

Initially, I had the receiver placed behind my seating position, hoping to bounce the signal from my logitech remote off of the front wall. This made for a total distance of about 17 feet and the receiver either wasn't getting the signal, or the reflected signal was too dispersed. After some rearranging of things, I move the unit to the front of the room for a direct shot between remote and receiver and that did the trick. My audio gear is in a closet and the unit has no trouble sending the signal through the wall. Everything works, receiver, DVD player, set top HD receiver, everything. Perfect. Couldn't be easier.

This unit has allowed me to finish off my home theater by hiding all of the audio equipment but still letting me control everything from the comfort of the seating position. This, without spending a two or three times more on the more complicated systems.

Highly recommended.

This system works exactly as advertised.
All my A/V components, except the TV, are in an open cabinet behind my couch about 5ft off the floor. I used to be able to point the remote at my old tube TV and the signal would reflect back to the components. After replacing the TV with a Plasma, the reflected remote signal didn't work anymore.
I saw the great reviews for the Powermid and figured I'd try it. Crutchfield said I could return it if didn't work.
After some experimentation with placement, I put the transmitter on top of my right front speaker, the receiver on the left front speaker and now I have full control of all the components behind me.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have two little girls who put anything and everything in my VCR and DVD player, so when I finished my basement I built it so all my components to the TV were on shelves in the closet. The only problem was how to use the remotes. The Powermid solved that problem PERFECTLY! I have the relay on a small shelf about 10 feet from the TV and the receiver in the closet across from the cable box, DVD, and VCR and everything works perfect. All the components are hidden in the closet. No wires and no worries!

This is What You Need!!

Written By Carlos, Fredericksburg, VA on Thursday, February 01, 2007

If you have components stored in closets, cabinets or need to go through a wall, this is what you need. It's easy to use, no need to program anything, just plug and go. The signal will be transmitted through walls and at quite a distance also. The price is reasonable and the unit is low profile so it can blend well sitting next to furniture, plants or whatever decoration you have.

I have a set up in the basement where my lcd tv faces one way and the components are stored in a closet behind, so all you see is the tv hanging on a wall. The satellite receiver and home theater components are behind the wall, and all I need to do is point the remote to the powermid and it transmits the signal to the other unit within the closet, which in turn retransmits to the components. The satellite tech who came over for the sat receiver installation was trying to sell me their company's version at a much higher price and kept telling me the Powermid would not work. I just smiled, plugged everything and proved him wrong. When he saw how easy it was, he asked me the price and where did I get it. He even walked out of my house with a Crutchfield catalog!!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I wish I had done a little research first on the Web before I bought a different brand of remote control extenders at a local national electronics superstore. I bought a Jensen and it barely worked. I had to get within 6 inches of the receiver with the remote for that to work. Then I did some research on the Web and found others had the same problem. I saw the great reviews for the X-10 model on Crutchfield and other sites so I gave it a try. I'm very, very happy! I can be ten feet away from the transceiver near my flat screen TV. My components (which are in a closed cabinet) easily pick up the signal from the receiver. It works great! Definitely worthy of a 5 star rating.

The original and the best infrared repeater!

Written By GR, Asheville, NC on Wednesday, November 29, 2006

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The X-10 Powermid remote control extender clearly outperforms the other brands, who may have a similar pyramid shape, but perform poorly. This unit responds to I/R commands quickly and relays the data to the remote transmitter without delay. Unlike the competition, you can easily place the X-10 receiver unit 8+ feet from your remote and it will easily pick it up. I have found other units that require the receiver to be placed 3-4 feet away for it to pick up the I/R beam, defeating its purpose! You can use more that one set of these if needed to pick up and retransmit I/R in multiple rooms, should you have an application for that. Highly recommended.

The Best!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After suffering trough a year using two other brands, this product is what you need! It works quickly when sending signals. The response time is immediate where the others had to have units placed within very small tolerance windows for the signals to be transmitted and received (if at all).

Good IR Repeater

Written By John, San Diego, CA on Tuesday, October 25, 2005

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The X-10 Powermid works as advertised. If your system is inside a cabinet (like mine is), you can place both the receiver and the optional RX569 extender inside to control two shelf's worth of equipment inside. Only wish is that there was an extender with more than one IR transmitter so it could reach even more equipment inside a cabinet. If your equipment is not inside a cabinet (or is behind glass or all on one shelf) you likely won't need the extender at all.

X-10 Powermid Remote Control Extender

Written By Shane, Portland, OR on Monday, August 22, 2005

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The X-10 Powermid Remote Control Extender is awesome. For about 3 years, I've been working out how to get my Tivo unit setup so I can watch recorded shows from the main Tivo unit to my remote TV in our bedroom, and the remote TV in the guest bedroom, and the basement.

Simply plugged all the TVs into the Tivo Coax Output through the in-house Coax cable. Then the X-10 Powermid was the crowning piece. We picked up a couple of extra Tivo remote controls, put the X-10 Powermid transmitter in each of the rooms, and the receiver in the room with the Tivo.

Bling! Tivo everywhere. This product is perfect, you simply just plug it in, point it at the piece of equipment, plug in the transmitter in the remote room - and it works. It's almost like magic. I love it.

Next step is to relocate the Tivo box into the mechanical room - since the hard drive makes too much noise, it'll be nice to have the thing locked in a closet so we won't have to hear it.

I love the X-10 powermid, have had it for about 2 weeks now, and I wonder how we got along with out it!

Thanks to Tommy at the solutions department for being so patient with my questions on how the thing worked, so I would understand that it actually was the piece of equipment I've been searching for for years. I wish I'd only called Crutchfield earlier! Thanks Tommy!
