Other positives? Unique port geometry reduces turbulence — you get clean bass. The compact size and horizontal design of each speaker makes it well-suited to small spaces. And it's the smallest, most affordable bookshelf speaker to utilize Bose's proprietary Direct/Reflecting® design. Perfect as front left and right speakers in a smaller room, or as surrounds for Bose home theater in a larger space.

Driver Technology

Mounting Options

Driver Technology

Direct/Reflecting Speaker Technology: Direct/Reflecting speaker technology can recreate the ratio of reflected and direct sound similar to what you hear at a live concert. As a result, you experience the power, impact and emotion of a live performance in your home.

Stereo Everywhere Speaker Performance: Because many conventional speakers radiate sound directly into the room, you hear balanced stereo sound only in one small "sweet spot." Using patented Bose Direct/Reflecting speaker technology, the Direct/Reflecting speakers deliver a natural balance of reflected and direct sound. You hear balanced stereo sound almost anywhere in the room.

Stereo Targeting Tweeters: These proprietary 2" drivers are engineered to direct mid to high frequencies to a wide, stable area between the speakers. Used in the Bose 201, they help create a sense of lifelike spaciousness and let you hear full stereo throughout the listening area.

Enclosure Design

Slot Port Tuning: The slot port tuning enables cleaner and deeper performance for the lower notes, particularly at high volumes.

Mounting Options

Wall Mounting: There is no insert for a universal wall mounting bracket, Bose recommends using only their WB-3 wall mount brackets.

Placement: These speakers were designed to be positioned horizontally and should not be placed vertically.

Q
Will this speaker hook up to my dish receiver?
myron  Aug 19, 2019
4 answers
A
As long as your receiver can connect to the speakers with speaker wires ??
tonya  Sep 11, 2019
A
Only if your Dish receiver has speaker outputs, which is doubtful. Otherwise you'll need to put a receiver in between the Dish receiver and the speakers. That's how I have mine, as the front speakers in a 5.1 surround. They work very well in this configuration. Get a receiver to get the most out of the 201's.
barry  Sep 10, 2019
A
i don't know. But you can hook up to TV.
maria  Sep 09, 2019

Honestly I am not sure. I have mine hard wired to my receiver. I suggest you ask the crutchfield customer service reps. They are absolutely great answering any and all questions

Q
Is it customary for Bose not to make standard measurements of their speakers, such as frequency range and sensitivity, public? Thanks.
josé  Jun 03, 2017

A
Many but not all loudspeaker performance measurements do not neccesarily correlate with how we hear and perceive sound. And they are actually so misunderstood and easily manipulated as to be practically meaningless.

That is a good question. I suppose most people; Bose customers don't desire to know such technical details. I think out of the box 301's have a great sound for my room acoustics when I put them up against my series VI 901s. I actually still have the 201s brand new in a box (never used) ;) whether that's good or bad I don't know, but I'm too busy enjoying my 301s, 901s or my old school Pioneer CS-88A's. I'm dying to find a nice clean and great priced CS 99A's which I pegged in Columbus craigslist, but i failed to move on them in the dead of winter was kind of hard to get down there from Cleveland to make the grab. I supposed one has to turn to other sources for technical details on Bose. Now you have me thinking about that as well and why. Thank YOU.
robert  Jun 05, 2017
A
I don't know However you can always go to the Bose web-site And get additional details Good Luck!!

Q
What kind of amp do I need for a turntable using the boss 201 series speakers?
michelle  Jan 29, 2017
2 answers
A
Unless your receiver has a built In phono preamp (phono jacks on rear of receiver), you will need a separate phono preamp device. I use a NAD PP21 which I purchased from Crutchfield.. Hope this answers your question.

Hello, You would need an amplifier...
gerry  Nov 17, 2014
A
You will need to have an amplifier to power your speakers. I have a Sony with 100 watts per channel, and the speakers work great.
graham  Nov 17, 2014
A
Absolutely. These speakers are awesome. Just make sure your amplifier or head unit meets the minimum wattage per channel. General rule of thumb is more wattage = the best results. The Bose speakers will amaze you, if powered properly. I've never under powered them, but I'd bet they''s sound good even under powered.
james c  Nov 16, 2014

Need to hook them to an amp. Just be very careful not to overdrive them.

Bose offers these stands for 201/301: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_018FS01/Bose-FS-01-bookshelf-speaker-floor-stands.html
kevin  May 17, 2014
A
I believe you could use them for a home theater system.I mounted mine on a wall so I don't imagine you would have a problem mounting them on a stand.Be sure to use the right hardware.
ghislain  May 17, 2014
A
also , forgot to say these are great for what I wanted, and I don't think you will be disappointed with them.
james e  May 17, 2014
A
sorry,i just use these as 2 stand alone speakers on top of actual bookcases, with about a 2" by 2" stick, front to back, seems to help the sound. my system will handle more speakers, but I just use these for music, not tv.hope this helps,JD
james e  May 17, 2014
A
Yes I use them as my front standing speakers on appropriate sizes stands. However, my set up is only 5.1 that being said I don't think that should matter too much as far as front speakers go. Also, my reciever, TV, cable box, etc are connected through hdmi if that's what you mean, but, they require speaker wire to connect the actual speakers to the reciever
michael j  May 17, 2014
