Love the idea of a room filled with music? Sounds like you're ready for classic Bose sound, from one of the most popular speakers ever made. The world-renowned Bose 301® Series V Direct/Reflecting® speaker system delivers the spacious, open sound Bose is famous for. How do they do it? With two high-sensitivity 2" Stereo Targeting® tweeters teamed with a long-excursion 8" woofer, and proprietary Stereo Everywhere® technology it creates a mix of direct and reflected sound, so you don't have to worry about finding and staying in a "sweet spot." Huge numbers of people have found this the best way to enjoy stereo music and it's great for home theater as well.
Worried about space? Don't be. Bose specializes in compact speakers that can fit unobtrusively into most rooms, and the 301® system is a prime example. The horizontal design makes it easy to place on bookshelves, too. And it's flexible a pair of these speakers is exceptional as front left and right speakers in a small home theater setup, or as high-quality surrounds for Bose home theater in a large room.
Recommended center channel speaker: Bose VCS-10® center speaker
Recommended surround speakers: Bose 161 system
Bookshelf speakers may be small in size, but they can deliver surprisingly big sound. Some ultra-compact models even fit on a desktop. Most are right at home in tight spaces like shelves, so they're usually good choices for your home theater's rear channels. For the best performance, try placing bookshelf speakers on solid speaker stands to help the sound really "open up." If you want full bass impact, add a powered subwoofer and enjoy punchy sound that's as deeply satisfying as that of floor-standing speakers.
Bose Makes excellent products in the 301 is no exception. Completely satisfied with the pricing service and product from Crutchfield
Pros: Makes excellent products in the 301 is no exception. Completely satisfied with the pricing service and product from Crutchfield
I bought these to replace a pair of NHT 1 speakers that were spent. These are a little bigger but still fit in the spot where the old speakers were. I was skeptical about how they would sound, but I am pleased as they are in a small room and my old sub-woofer is gone and the bass response is much better than than NHT's
Pros: compact size good bass good midrange and tweeter
Cons: not super fidelity but ok for small room.
These speakers replaced an older pair of Bose 301 V speakers that got destroyed by a flood. They sound as great as before. I'm always amazed at how such a big sound can come from such small speakers. Worth every penny.
Wow. These speakers fill a woodworking shop with fantastic sound. Love 'em.
Pros: Great speakers, They work great with the Bose wall brackets.
Cons: Cost is probably more than comparely sized speakers.
Excellent sound, good balance between bass and tweeter. The mid-range is also excellent. As one might expect, another good product from Bose.
Pros: Good sound
After replacing a 15 year old receiver, I decided to continue my upgrade with these speakers. I didn't realize how densely textured my music collection is until I heard it one these speakers. Bose lives up to its reputation with these.
Pros: Sound Quality
Cons: None so far.
Five Star Product. We are not audio enthusiasts in the sense of knowing the difference between the various upper lines of quality speakers. Our purposes are casual audio (mostly classical music and movie soundtracks) and home theater. We used these Bose speakers alongside a 5.1 Andy Jones Pioneer setup. Personally, I found these Bose speakers to provide a much greater feeling of depth than the Andy Jones speakers. Of course, this is highly subjective from person to person, but when compared alongside the Pioneer Center and Bookshelf Speakers, the Bose seems to blow them away. Overall, these had a great, fuller range. I would probably describe these Bose speakers as a bookshelf-version of a floorstanding speaker. For the average, casual home entertainment purpose, these are great speakers for the price! And they look just wonderful too :)
Speakers look and sound great! perfect for the new man cave!
great sound quality
Using thes speakers as the rear speakers for my stereo system. Great lows and highs and response. Completes my surround system perfectly!
Pros: Easy set up, great sound
Cons: Not wireless
This is my third pair of Bose 301's I've purchased over the years. Initially, I owned Bose 301 series II. . .and I currently own 2 pair of 901's. There are a few things to know: this speaker is, in my opinion, THE best sounding "bookshelf" speaker on the market. At normal listening levels, it sounds better than the Bose flagship 901 speaker. However, over the years, the quality of Bose products has turned to more plastic usage, "simulated" wood grain, and lack of "sturdiness." The sound, however, remains excellent. No. Don't use these with your surround system. They're made for simple two channel set-ups. Would I buy them again. Yes. After all, Bose technology comes from Dr. Amar Bose--an MIT engineer. Their sound is based on science.
Pros: Compact, Bose name, good pedastals, great sound.
Cons: "simulated" wood (particle board covered with wall-paper). Plastic components. Not the quality of prior decades Bose products.
Look. Nobody who is looking at a <$400/pair set of speakers is (or should be) thinking high-end audio. I've had a pair of 301-Vs in my main living room system (5.1) for about 2 years now as surround speakers (I'm listening to them now.) and they're OKAY. Not great (I don't expect or need them to be--I just like a little, subtle surround effect), but not poor either. I would not use them for the front mains. Nor in a stereo system I was going to listen to carefully, but then I wouldn't be thinking about spending that little for my speakers either. For casual listening (or surround fills for a good system), the 301s are just fine. Their sound is unspectacular but without pronounced coloration. Yes, the Bose "concert hall philosophy" does show up in the 301s, and that does mean they would make poor stereo speakers for people who want genuine high fidelity stereo imaging (but such people also won't listen to surround systems either--so what!) I've spent 40 years in and around music production (live and studio) and I know what high fidelity (reference grade precision audio --as distinct from "audiophile", which no one knows what it means, especially the people who think they are that) sounds like, and I know what it costs. Most of us can't justify investing what would amount to a couple of months or more worth of paychecks into our home audio to get what would amount to a mediocre mains monitoring system in any good studio. The Bose are decent speakers at their price.
Pros: Sound that is easy to live with from an affordable, compact-sized box.
Cons: Build quality and styling is actually a bit cheesy. (Put house plants in front of them.) Spring loaded speaker connections may not work with your $1150/pair AudioQuest speaker cables. Your know-it-all brother-in-law will make snide comments about Bose. (Ignore him--he' an idiot who just parrots stuff he reads in online forums...He'll also criticize your selection of non-craft beers while drinking his fourth can. Tell your wife to stop inviting him over.)
Serves my purpose as sorruond speakers
What a difference these speaker make. Took me a while to plan my attack, but tonight I'm in music heaven. the instillation was simple, using the wall brackets really helped. I already had Monster speaker cable in place, so the switch was not too expensive.
Pros: the sound is wonderful. Lyrics are so clear; high volume, low volume, it's all good. I can't believe I waited this long to get top drawer speakers.
Cons: none. the installation was painless.
I can not believe how well the Bose 301 have transformed our listening enjoyment from so so to OMG. With an old Sony system, a Focal Wireless Receiver and a great set of speakers you can make a very small investment into a great blue tooth stereo system.
I needed a pair of omni-directional bookshelf speakers for a smallish room and these fit my requirements superbly. The are very accurate, handle power well and allow listening from anyplace in the room. They replaced a pair of Klipsch bookshelf speakers, and there is no comparison.
Pros: See review.
Cons: I haven't found any cons yet.
For less than $350/pair, these are quite competent speakers and very worthy of consideration. I recently upgraded to a pair of KEFs, but to be honest the Bose did not compare too poorly with them. If I need another set of bookshelves, would surely give bose consideration again. Coupled with a bass cube, this may be the sweet spot of the Bose line.
Pros: Clean sound. I found the mids and highs to be quite good - though this may have something to do with my amp and mixer, too. They can be pushed fairly hard without distortion. Fidelity is more than enough for enjoyable music listening.
Cons: The base is somewhat lacking, but competitive in this price range. And how many people run small bookshelves without a bass cube anyway?
Love these speakers. Bought another set in addition to the one's I already have. Great for filling a small home with sound (I do crank them up !!!). Can't beat the sound for the price.
Pros: Small in size for the sound quality. Price.
Great sound from a small speaker, this is my second pair
I bought these 301 series V with high expectations that they would be an imporvement over an old set of floor-standing speakers made by Mitsubishi. I own one of Bose's all in one radio-cd player's, and it is great, excellent functionality and sound (expensive, I paid like $500 for it years back). I was disappointed this time. The lows are not very low (much worse than my old MItsubioshi), and the highs are not very high (a little better than my old mitsubishi). As to 'filling the room', again no imporvement over the oldies. I concluded the difference was not worth the price. I will try next a pair of infinity primus p363. Crutchfield, as usual, did a superb job, no hassle return, and I got good advice from tech adviser Morgan on the Inifinities. (See also my review of the Onkyo tx 8050 I bought at the same time; I love it).
Pros: sound ok
Cons: 'flat', and I dont mean flat frequency response, I mean little high or low freq response
Great sounding speaker for the price. I've had Bose 901s for 30 years and love them but want to downsize both size and price. These speakers have real clarity and a natural sound. I love them. Probably not for the "boom box in your car" folks!
Pros: Sound and size
Cons: Cheesy wood looking finish - wish I would have order black
I researched mainly floor standing speakers in the $1000/pair range and was really thinking to go that route. Then I really thought about my house and my audio needs and looked into "bookshelf" speakers, also up to $1000/pair. The only reason I tell my price range is because I want to convey that I was after an excellent, crisp sound with punchy lows. I didn't want to pull up short and be disappointed. Well, I read all the Bose 301 Series V reviews and became very interested in these speakers. So I ordered a pair to go with the Marantz M-CR610 I also ordered. I am very pleased with these Bose 301's. I can turn up the volume on the 55RMS Marantz to a level that would cause hearing damage in short order and these speakers sound crisp, clean and distortion free with lows thatare at once deep, full and punchy, if that makes sense. And at low levels, where I listen most of the time, the sound is exactly the same, just at a lower level. I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend these Bose 301's without reservations.
Pros: Fills the house with great stereo sound no matter one's location with respect to speaker placement. Solidly built and good looking design (not at all "cheap" looking). Excellent price for what you get.
Cons: Speaker inputs are the "spring" type, which is a shame. I think Bose pulled up short in this regard. The output of the speakers might actually overpower a bedroom or really small room.
matched these Bose speakers with a Phase Linear 400 amp and an AT PL120 turntable to get pure sound of vinyl and am thrilled with the result. Without the benefit (or clutter) of a sub-woofer, I get deep bass, great mid-range and crisp highs at an unbelievable price for the pair. They are lightweight and sleek.
Pros: great sound at an affordable price and no need for a sub-woofer
I bought these to replace an old (purchased 1987) pair of Bose speakers. They seem to have a little deeper bass response and wider dispersion of highs. They make my room sound bigger. Stereo imaging is great anywhere, even off to the sides. In my particular installation they seemed to boom a little, especially on spoken words, so I moved them a couple of inches away from the back wall and the boominess went away. Now I have nice full response. They are certainly more than adequate for a 16x20 room. My 100W/channel receiver drives them to ear-splitting volume at 2/3 power with no breakup; any louder would be dangerous to one's ears!!!
Pros: Great stereo imaging throughout the room.
hey there alright for the money
Pros: they fit into a small house and they look great also
Cons: only have 2 need two more
I have owned these speakers for years and I have found that these are the most realistic sounding speakers I have come across. I know they don't have the loudest bass or the highest of highs but when watching movies and you hear a phone ring, a door bell, or a microwave beep, it sounds so realistic that I sometimes grab my phone or check to see who's at the door. I have a sub to help with the low bass so together the sound quality is amazing. Music, when paired with a sub, also sounds better than a lot of other speakers. I also have a pair of B & W bookshelf speakers and I feel the Bose speakers are more realistic sounding and make watching movies more theater like. It is difficult to have a true sound experience in a retail store because of the acoustics being different from a living room or bedroom setting. When set up properly, the sound does not seem to be coming from the speakers but from everywhere, like a sound stage with smooth, rich sound.
Pros: Amazing, realistic sound.
Cons: Needs a powered sub to really shine.
Natural sounding lows and midrange--highs are surprisingly (for Bose) muted. Despite placement that should weaken bass response, cellos and other low tones sound grand. Jazz requires upping the loudness contour. Natural, effortless sound for classical (which is what I bought them for), but these are not startling in any way. It may be speaker placement (high on the kitchen wall in an acoustically live environment), but these speakers are merely "fine" for cooking to classical music--nothing sensational about them. BTW--they do require watts--my Yamaha 100W amp runs about 40% on the volume control for normal listening levels.
Pros: lows & midrange
Cons: highs, dynamics, excitement!
My first set lasted twelve years. They are not outdoor friendly. Crisp beautiful sound
Awesome sound, rich highs and nice lows
Pros: Sound good great for the money
Cons: None for me
These are the best speakers you could ever own this is my second set my first pair are a set of series 3s that i have owned for nearly 18 years and still play strong they just dont blend with the new decor of the room anymore. These speakers like alot of power which i mean at half volume on a receiver rated to push them there awesome they will make your neighbors complain.
Pros: The new design is a plus
Cons: I have really seen a con other than low volume they like to be pushed hard
These Bose speakers are excellent. Like all Bose products they have clarity, depth and a wide stage. They are perfect for a large bedroom or small living room. They are also versatile in that they match well with other manufacturer's center channel and subwoofer speakers. The price is also right for under $300 for a pair. Their sound is also great for both TV programs and music.
Pros: Clarity, depth and a wide sound stage. Right size for a bedroom or small living room. Don't need much power from the Amp to operate successfully.
I had some 301's (2 pairs) years ago. Allways a little lean for my tastes, then I went on a merry go round of buying 4 different sets of towers, and never being 100% happy, When you spend substatntial $$ you want perfection. I never did buy Klipcsh - afraid that even thought they sounded fantastic in the showroom, the high's would end up fatiguing. This week I remembered a guy who had hooked up 301's with a Klipsch 12" sub - and I thought I had never heard a better sound. So, I have ordered a new pair of 301 series V. Currently have a cheap Yamaha sub, if need be I wiull upgrade to a 12", there are plenty of good subs out there now at good deals. So I will be shelving the Andrew Jones Pioneer towers I bought last year - sounded very good at the store, and even thought they are rated at 150W with three 5" woofers (one acts as a mid) and a dome tweeter, my god what power hogs, my 75W a channel Denon is humbled - the result being I just can't get the oomph at low/mid volumes leaving the base muddy. I know the 301's have slightly better mids/highs (actual comparison) so with just the 301's to drive, and a powered sub, I will be rocking the free world, even better that my old Cerwin Vega XLS-15's (which were very good speakers). Yes 301's have cheap clips, but has anyone stopped to think that there are not gold wires inside any mid/high priced speakers, or the back of your amp so what is the big deal? Rock, classical or jazz, 301's will work for me!
Pros: value, size, weight
Cons: lean base but that is what my sub is for, plus with 301's on stands, the base will move freely across the room, not be blotted by a tower speaker...
Great sound at a great price. Can't go wrong with these.
The Bose 301 has a very good bass sound. The midrange and treble are not so open sounding, but they sound clean. If you like your music mellow and not etched, they are perfect for your room or living space. I have them hooked up to a Denon receiver with 80 watts and that is plenty of power. The Bose 301's best feature is the sound comes for the corner of the room and not from the speaker, due to the extra tweeter on the rear side. Hope this helps.
Pros: Sound stage created by 301 speakers is very large.
Cons: Not the most transparent sound. May need about 40 watts amp or more to drive them well.
Clean clear and crisp, you can't beat Bose speakers for their purity of sound
Pros: Best sound for the buck
Um I have a pair of 301 that I bought back in the summer of 89.They sound the same as they did the first day.In fact they sound better than the new 301 I attempted ton add to the other two older ones.No comparision to the oldies.I dunno what happened but The newer ones sit here unhooked bc they dont stand up to the classics
We mounted these up on the wall. Sound is wonderful. Was easy to attach wires and wall mount we ordered.
Pros: Great sound. Small size.
Just got a pair in cherry on sale with free delivery. Christmas gift to myself. Don't let the elite Bose haters affect your decision, these speakers completely rock! There is a reason you can still buy them after four decades. They require strategic placement and a strong amp. For the price they are a no-brainer. Everyone should have a pair.
I purchased pair of Bose 301 speakers.Returned them the very next day because of the tin can sound and not enough base. Got Infinity P362 pair.A huge difference!!!I would recommend them to anyone who does not think that the Bose 301 speakers meet their expectations.
I read almost every review of these I could find. There were a lot of negative and positive reviews. I use the 301's for the fronts on my system with the 201's as the surrounds, a center and two subs (because I can.)
The Bose definitely have their own sound to them. It is not an in your face type of sound. The sound envelopes around you. At moderate to high volumes, they are great. At low levels, it is nice having non Bose center speaker to have the sound directed right at you because it can sound a little distant. If I could go back, I would pick something different than the 201's for the surrounds to give a more direct sound. As for the 301's for fronts, they work fine for me. They sound great. I have them mounted on the Bose speaker stands, and it looks pretty cool. Overall, I am very pleased and would recommend them.
My surround set up utilized 35 year old JBL Horizon speakers as my mains but one had developed a buzz as a result of deteriorating surrounds. The Bose 301s (along with a pair of Bose 161s to handler the rear and a Sunfire subwoofer) have now replaced the Horizons yielding even better sound and requiring considerably less space. I'm more than satisfied.
I replaced a set of 30 yr old Bose floor type 501 speakers with the 301 speakers and can't believe the sound coming from those speakers. They are two-thirds the size of the big ones and just as powerful.
I recently purchased a set of Bose 301 speakers to attach to my vintage Pioneer stereo from the mid 70's. What a HUGE disappointment. The Bose 301 are flat and had NO depth or crispness in bass. I have returned them and purchased a pair of Infinity P363 speakers that have great full range clarity and depth, and you can FEEL the music!!! I got the Infinity speakers on sale.
I DO NOT recommend these speakers and would suggest waiting till the Infinity speakers are on sale.
Awesome sound. Everything I expected from a Bose product delivered by an Awesome
electronics company. Extremely satisfied in every way.
After years of buying cheaper, I finally bought what I have always wanted. Bose!!!
I have had many friends with Bose, 301's, 601's and 901's and I finally got a set of my
Speaker placement and adequate power is the key to great sound with Bose.
I purchased a Yamaha RX-797 stereo receiver and am more than happy with the
I am not a fan of surround sound but appreciate great sound from my stereo and
this set up is fantastic!!!
As always, Crutchfield Customer Service Rocks and is always helpful with questions
and set up!!!
Another, returning Happy Customer!!!!
These speakers were a big let down. Sound is muddy lacking clarity and crispness, especially at lower and moderate volume levels. Those springy type wire attachments on the rear are terrible as the wires easily pull free. I would not recommend these.
Great sounding speakers with good base for Bookshelf speakers. These babies are on the large size for their class so be prepared that they will take up a goodly amount of space. If you want full range and somewhat compact size these are the ticket.
i needed to replace my 301 series 3 cause of a blowen woofer . so as a good coustomer that iam with cruthfield i bought new 301s and i still have to brake them in cause they last for years and years dont play burnt cds thats how i blow my old pair but i put them on the wall in the family room in the basement and they look pimping down there i just need to find a cheap 8 inch for my old pair
Replaced my original purchase of a Polk Surround Bar with this Bose 301 system, and
a Bose VC 10 center channel speaker. I originally went with the Surround Bar because I
wanted simplicity in the number of components I had strewn around my room. In the
end, the Surround Bar had the disavdantage of placement restrictions (I had to place it
on top of a cabinet about 8 feet up), so I returned it because the sound wasn't being
projected at ear level and it was noticibily distracting. After typical fantastic customer
service from Crutchfield and a seamless return, the Crutchfield advisor steered me
towards these Bose speakers. Although I have now gotten away from my original goal
of having the least amount of speakers possible, I do not regret it at all. These Bose
speakers are much better than the Surround Bar. With this setup, I essentially have a
2.1 versus 5.1 capability with the Surround Bar, but I am no audiophile. All I can say is
that for primarily listening to TV and music, these Bose speakers are fantastic and I
would recommend them in a heartbeat. The center channel speaker is a must in my
opinion as well. I originally did not have a separate subwoofer, and was plenty happy
without it (I turned up the bass output level and it sounded just fine to me), but I have
since added a separate sub.
Just recieved. sound good for the money. i would buy more. As important the company met all their comittments.
I received my Bose 301's during the holidays and cannot tell you how much I am
satisfied with them! The sound quality is superb and crisp!I I certainly do not
consider myself an expert in this field thus my reliance on your customer
service for help was critical to me. I did a lot of research and asked many
questions. Your rep was honest, straightforward and more importantly, patient
in answering all my questions. I look forward to continuing my business
relationship with Crutchfield.
I had enjoyed a pair of this Bose speakers since 5 years ago. Now I decide to complete my whole 7.1 home theater and buy two pairs more of this model for the power those can handle. Whao! theres is a big difference now to my ears the music and movies sound terrific. I have an Onkyo TX-SR707 and use its pre-out to the Marantz 8 Channel Power Amplifier MM8003, also I have a Bose VCS-10 for center speaker. This amplifier give 140 watts per channel and the 301 System is a perfect match because this speakers can handle up to 150 watts. I do not buy it for listen at very loud volume, the reason is the fidelity that a good equipment can give to music and movies. You can see the reviews I make to the Onkyo TX-SR707 and the Marantz MM8003 8 Channel amplifier, two good equipments too. I am waiting for UPS to receive the Bose wall-mounts I bought in the same order meanwhile I put the sorrounds left and right on two little tables I have.
I really want to thanks the Crutchfield for be a very good company that you can ever trust.
I have had the same 301, Series II speakers for the past 25 years and have been
very happy with them........until I purchased new 301's. Holy cow! They are
amazing! I wish that I had replaced them a long time ago. No matter how
attached you are to your old 301's, it is time to make the move. Unbelievable
sound. I really didn't think that I would be able to tell much of a difference.
I was very wrong.
Long time ago i was in a store and i heard Music playing loud with a superb cristal clear sound and couldn't figure it out where it was coming from, intrigued i went look for it and i found this little cubes from Bose. That's how i found Bose , not by recomendation but by audition, they where the best speakers i ever listen to
It took me a while to decide each ones to buy, i think i made the right choice, the detail of the sound in the 301's it's unbeliveable, all effects in movies and games are cristal clear, the sound is superb, theres instruments in songs that i used to listen all the time and i didn't even know they were there, now i can hear them. The bass it's not like a subwoofer and it's not intended to be as many complain, you want bass? add a subwoofer to your system. The reflection of the effects in the walls it's amazing. Looking foward to get the Surrounds from bose to complete my system.
These were a replacement for a set of older 301's that I lost in a fire in my garage. I now have A-1 sound in my new garage. Excellent sound and quality and fantastic service by Crutchfield as usual.
Very happy with speakers, crisp clear sound with or without earphones!
Compact design which allows table placement ,and or wall mount!
Acurate delivery date (almost unheard of these days),and of course return, and money back guarantee if not completely satisfied.
What more can you ask from Bose??
Chutchfield offered FREE shipping!!!!
I have been upgrading my surround sound system for the past few months to include a new 7.1 channel A/V receiver, a Bose VCS-10 center channel speaker and Bose 161 series speakers for rear surround purposes. I am very pleased with the new additions but due to the fact that my new receiver allows me two extra channels, I needed two extra speakers. I was looking for a set that would not only give me crisp clean sound for movie viewing but would also add some great bass from the rear of the room for music listening. After some searching I decided on the Bose 301's and I can't tell you pleased I am with my selection. From the performance, wall mount option and price I am very pleased. They really completed my system and I highly recommend them.
In addition I can't say enough about Crutchfield, what a great company. Shipping time is better than what they estimated and their customer service is above all. I would not hesitate to do business with them in the future and look forward to doing so!
altho the physical design of these speakers is not the most convenient for placement, that is, they are not exactly rectangular nor right angled, they nevertheless produce as good a sound for the money as i have ever purchased... they are not designed to be placed against a wall or other vertical suface anyway. i have bought too many speakers over the years and i hope these hold up better than than others. their reproduction of chamber music and other acoustic instrumentation leaves nothing to be desired. pair them with a sub woofer.
These are great little speakers - fantastic sound for such a small size. I would highly recommend them.
For my kind of music (eclectic but mostly acoustic) you'd have to spend a lot more and you probably wouldn't be able to hear the difference.
I just purchased these speakers to go along with a Onkyo receiver, Onkyo i-pod docking station and Yamaha CD player for my new dance studio and am thrilled. They arrived quickly, were easy to install and the sound is spectacular. All of the teachers at my studio are thanking me for the great new system. We have the speakers mounted on the wall and they are simply splendid.
I am not particularly sophisticated in my sound equipment knowledge (yet) and found Crutchfield to be a great company to work with. I love the articles, reviews, and ways to research and explore my options. The ordering process was excellent and the merchandise is great. Thanks!

I first experienced Bose products when my brother bought a pair of used 501's 25 years ago. They are still dynamite. I have bought a wave radio, a wave radio with cd, a pair of Bose 601's, the headphones, the 901 surround sound system, and now the 301's for my upstairs hd television. Their products are impressive and fairly priced, as such. Their aftermarket service may even be better.
Bose 301s are some of the best speakers around if you are going to use them for music or even as your mains on a surround system if you are not critical about movie sound. They are designed with that airy room filling sound which makes the Bose name famous for music reproduction. I have them paired with 201s as my surrounds and a VCS100 as my center. This system delivers good movie performance and great music sound. However, having listened to other surround systems recently, I must say, as a movie buff, they lack the definitive, crisp sound which is required for surround sound. The same airy quality I love in music, muddies the sound separation in movies. I am looking to replace these with more traditional speakers in my surround - but will keep them in my office for music !
I had 301's for several years in the early 90's, but gave them to my son about 5 years ago when he went to college and I went with a overpriced/under performing surround sound 5.1 Home Theater system. We live in a fairly small house, small living room. I junked the whole surruond sound and went back to a decent 100 watt stereo and the 301's. I loved my old pair and like the new ones even more. Speakers are like wine in that everyone's tastes are different, and to my ears and the small space, the Bose 301's are just right. Also, the price, with the new amp from Crutchfields was affordable. No complaints!
This is overkill by now for potential buyers but I feel it's my duty since these ratings are what lead me to my purchase. These speakers are amazing. For the price I feel like we've gained a whole new audio/surround system. I used the placement suggestions since I have a large room and every seat is a "sweet spot".
These speakers are a great buy and Crutchfield is the place to buy. I was amazed these speakers arrived two days after my order. I live in northern New York near Canada. Crutchfield got my order here quicker than "Netflix" :)
just replace my Radio Shack floor speakers with the Bose 301 speakers. What a difference it made, the sound is crisp and bright. I combined the 301's with the 201's as surrounded speakers and the VCS-10 as the center. Makes you feel like your at the movies.
The Bose 301 speakers are a great addition to any surround sound or stereo system. I added them to my current Bose stereo system and the result is amazing. They provide a clear, crisp sound that I am completely thrilled with. For the price and the quality, you cannot go wrong with the Bose 301 speakers. I would also reccomend Crutchfield, as they are professional and deliver quick service.
These speakers are wonderful. Probably overkill for the small room I have them in, but they still sound great at any volume. I have them matched to Bose 161s as surround speakers and an Infinity Primus C25 center speaker. I bought them all from Crutchfield and am very pleased. I went with the Infinity because it reviewed better than the Bose VCS-10.
I blew up my 25 year old speakers, rated at 40 watts, (but huge), with my new 100 watt receiver. I bought these Bose, which can handle 150 watts. The world of audio has improved in 25 years I guess, because these speakers are 1/2 the size as my departed 40 watt sonys, yet deliver big fat volume when I want it, or low, background ambience when I am in the mood for that. You can't beat Bose. The new speakers inspired me to rearrange my audio room around them. Great value, and Crutchfield sells them at the lowest price available. Time to turn 'em up!!!
I purchased these speakers last year. I always wanted BOSE speakers. I always felt like I could never get a pair. I did and I was very impressed. They are awesome. They have kick. I am now a BOSE snob. I just ordered the SOUNDOCK for my IPOD!
truely exceptional speakers. don't waste your time looking to compare with other shelf speakers, non exist. these are excellent, might as well buy the best.
I recently redecorated my room and I wanted to upgrade my currently owned floorstanding speakers. Since I'm going to college next year I wanted to find something with the quality and performance of a good set of floorstanding speakers with the portability of a bookshelf speaker. Oh, and I also wasn't looking to sell the house to afford them either. After a lengthy search, I ended up settling on these because of the impressive specs and reviews. I purchased them directly from Crutchfield, which I'd also reccomend. As soon as I set these up in my room I noticed a huge difference in performacne than any speaker I'd previously owned. For such a small set of speakers they do an incredible job of filling the room with a rich sound. The Stereo Targetting Tweeter is such a great feature; you really get an optimal sound from wherever you're standing in the room. For those with limited desk top space I would also reccomend the Bose FS-01 stands also found on Crutchfield. I purchased both of these products and they make an incredibally sleek and great looking pair.
Great design and impressive quality at a good size and a decent price.
These speakers sound great! They can really fill up a room with rich, full-range sound. My only complaint is that they need to be placed in an open space, not an entertainment center for the best sound.
After listening to many floor standing speakers ( what I initially wanted) and almost giving up I found these 301's and gave them a listen. Wow! They were superb compared to what I had heard and cheaper than most. Wanted 4 but settled for 2 and put them in front on my surround system. Very, very happy! Crutchfield is a 1st class dealer too!
I am using these (2 pairs)in black, for side and rear surrounds - very pleased with looks and sound. For sound, they blend very nicely with my Klipsch Front and center speakers.
I couldn't mount them on the wall (In my case this wasn't a choice, but you could if you buy the wall mounts), so I am using the 24" high FS-01 Bose stands - also an excellant product... Highly recommended...
Not only are these speakers nice to look at but also function above my expectations. I purchased these to up grade from sony floor speakers. And what a smart choice, they are small enough to fit in my video center yet large enough to give out amazing sound.\
I am very pleased with these speakers.

Direct/Reflecting Speaker Technology: Direct/Reflecting speaker technology can recreate the ratio of reflected and direct sound similar to what you hear at a live concert. As a result, you experience the power, impact and emotion of a live performance in your home.
Stereo Everywhere Speaker Performance: Because many conventional speakers radiate sound directly into the room, you hear balanced stereo sound only in one small "sweet spot." Using patented Bose Direct/Reflecting speaker technology, the Direct/Reflecting speakers deliver a natural balance of reflected and direct sound. You hear balanced stereo sound almost anywhere in the room.
Long-excursion 8" Woofers: The long-excursion 8" woofers allow you to experience the remarkable effects of the lowest notes and balanced sound throughout the listening area.
Stereo Targeting Tweeters: These proprietary 2" drivers are engineered to direct mid to high frequencies to a wide, stable area between the speakers. Used in the Bose 301 Series V, they help create a sense of lifelike spaciousness and let you hear full stereo throughout the listening area.
Rear-firing Tweeters: A rear-firing tweeter sends sound from the back and side of each speaker for a balance of reflected and direct sound that is spacious and natural, like a live performance.
Tuned Port Enclosures: The unique port geometry enables cleaner and deeper performance for lower notes, particularly at high volumes.
Wall Mounting: There is no insert for a universal wall mounting bracket, Bose recommends using only their WB-3 wall mount brackets.
Placement: These speakers were designed to be positioned horizontally and should not be placed vertically.

Just love these. They provide a musicological listening experiences. Superb frequency range. BIG bass sound from a bookshelf. Won't take up lots of space. [ robert Jan 27, 2016 ]
Great great sound from a bookshelf speaker. Well worth the money for the serious musicologist. [ robert Jan 27, 2016 ]
for you sound in small room [ Luis R. Dec 13, 2015 ]
I have a much older version of the 301's and I use them for this exact purpose. They do a great job as rear's in providing a depth of field for the surround sound of a good movie. You should be pleased. [ Barry Dec 19, 2014 ]
Rhonda, I have used the Bose 301's as additional speakers on a 600 watt Sony surround system in my 24x30 home theater. Very clean, great frequency response...great performers for the price. BTW now using them as stereo speakers and cant believe the terrific bass out of such relatively small units. [ WILLIAM Dec 17, 2014 ]
They sure will! That is how I use them at the bar. They sound great and can always be used as your mains if you ever changed it up down the road. [ Michael Dec 17, 2014 ]
The Bose 301 has an 8" woofer in each speaker, so bass is pretty good. Would recommend the 301 over the 201 if you want bass, as the 201 only has a 6.5" woofer [ Vincent Apr 09, 2014 ]
Hi Pauline, the Bose 301V don't need a subwoofer or a center speaker. They sound great to me and all good.... smile :) gap [ GERRY A Dec 13, 2013 ]
No subwoofer or center speaker needed with these speakers. The sound is rich, clear and full. When I first purchased them, I was listening to talk radio at low volume, & I left the room for a while. When I passed the room sometime later I was frightened out of my wits because I had forgotten I left the system on, & it sounded like actual people were in my living room having a conversation! I can drive the speakers at a high volume & still no distortion. Also crystal clear at low volume. Listening to a digitally re-mastered CD is the closest sound to a live performance you can get. Worth every penny. The Bose 301 series is by far the best speakers I've ever owned. Also I guess it also depends on what type of receiver you own. I have an RX-797. [ QUINCY R Dec 13, 2013 ]
I purchased my Bose 301's strictly for music listening. In that regard, I would say a center speaker is not necessary but a subwoofer would be greatly desired. The 301's are great high end, fairly good mid-range but not much on the bass - and I LOVE bass. In general I am happy with the 301's. [ RICHARD D Dec 13, 2013 ]
I also have a Samsung TV. Do you have a Bose sound bar? If not what brand and do you like the sound? [ Pauline Dec 12, 2013 ]
We have the speakers connected to a new receiver system we had installed. They are in a large living room, on a shelf unit on each side of our fireplace. There are no central speakers or subwoofer connected to it. We do have an additional and separate sound bar connected to our Samsung TV with a subwoofer, but they are separate units. The new Bose speakers are great! Our radio (local and internet) as well as a Bose wave radio and CD player sound wonderful with them. [ LINDA L Dec 12, 2013 ]
I bought 4 , dont think you need a sub woofer at all because they bounce off the back walls , my amp will give more base than I need or want . I would recommend the stands the offer look good and work well [ CHARLES M Dec 12, 2013 ]
Hi If you want to use it with soround sound system then yes minimum 5.1 channels speakers That's 2 front one center 2 rear and the point one is the sub. If just for regular stereo music listening this are great too(2 channels) I'm currently using this speakers on surround sound system Good luck Yair [ YAIR Dec 12, 2013 ]
No. They are used on their own with no problem. I put four in a restaurant. They are incredible for the cost. [ Andrew Dec 12, 2013 ]
I would not because the Bose301V has the correct amount of highs, mid and lows to make a in incredible sound. It will be over kill in my opinion. [ SHANE Dec 12, 2013 ]
Hi, thanks for your question. These speakers are manufactured in Mexico. Weighing in at 12.5lbs. The dimensions are 14.375w, 9.785h, 9.9375d. Hope that helps. [ Kenny Feb 05, 2016 ] Staff
Yes these are great speaker sound loud and clear.Go for it.Be sure it for home used Not for event in big spaces. [ EDWIN Feb 03, 2016 ]
Yes, they will work fine assuming your karaoke system can handle a normal impedance of 6-8ohms [ JAMES Feb 02, 2016 ]
I love these speakers as my main front speakers for my amplifier for music, but I also run my TV sound through them along with a Bose center speaker. I would guess that they would make excellent karaoke speakers because their reproduction of sound, including music and voice, is so clear and full. I think they'd be great for karaoke. [ Rodney Feb 02, 2016 ]
No--you'd need an integrated amplifier with a built-in DAC (digital to analog converter). These are sizable speakers that also work best away from the wall--not for a desktop if that is what you have in mind. [ DAN G Feb 09, 2015 ]
dont think it has enough power to make them sound very good ,these are high performance speakers [ CHARLES M Feb 09, 2015 ]
I hooked these up to my stereo system so not sure about a laptop connection. Each speaker requires its own wiring. [ JEFF Feb 09, 2015 ]
