Bose, Better than expected

Written by: TomC from Dallas, OR on October 13, 2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After much research on the WEB and many assurances from the Crutchfield folks about their return policies I ordered the Bose Acoustimass 10 Series speaker system. I really wanted these speakers to work as I liked their size & setup but half expected to be disappointed after reading the many unflattering reviews on the WEB. In my opinion they were wrong. Perhaps my hearing isn't as "professional" as the 'anti'-Bose folks but I find this system to give a great sound experience when viewing/listening to movies and also of great importance to me, the sound when listening to music is just as good if not better. My one complaint would be the number of wires that are used when hooking up the system. It's not complicated, just cumbersome. I would recommend this system to anyone who has a medium to small room that is wanting a distinct, clear surround sound experience. These are not "big" blow out your windows speakers, so if you are looking for that I would suggest looking elsewhere.

Speakers sounds very good for the most part (volume, bottom and top ends). I needed 7.1 surround and added bose 191's in t he middle of the room. I'm using a Yamaha RXA700 and have completed all the setup for the correct sound. The mid range seems to be lacking a little after going through the setup, etc. and i'm still trying to work through it.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I read a lot a reviews on numerous forums regarding bose acoustimass systems, and was tempted not to buy. After hearing them in a family members house, I decided to take the plunge. Sound so far is superb. Popped in the new Sherlock Holmes Blu Ray with the DTS-HD Master Audio track on it, and it sounds amazing. Crisp highs and powerful bass for my living room (16' x 22')...and it really fills the house. Set up with the Onkyo TX-607 receiver with AutoEQ and do not have any complaints. I had to buy the UB-20 brackets and the wall adapter since the house was pre-wired, all was very easy to install with the right tools.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've lusted for this speaker system for quite awhile now, knew exactly what I was getting into with it and have absolutely no regrets. It fits our 13' x 18' media room well. It replaced an aging 5.1 system that required more real estate than necessary and was not HDMI compatible. So, the time was 'right' for an entire system replacement. I couldn't be happier with the floor space we've reclaimed. And we haven't sacrificed any sound quality. I don't understand some of the 'sour grapes' comments from other reviewers - perhaps they had problems that I didn't. I think that the Crutchfield team does a really superb job in interviewing and advising to help put a nice system together within the customer's budget....if ego will permit them to do so. I have nothing but good things to say about the experience and wouldn't do a single thing differently if I had to do it over again. System performance, price, delivery condition, delivery speed and followup are well above expectations, so kudos to Team Crutchfield!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

You will not be disappointed once you hear your movies on your new Bose AM 10. I have this set up with the Denon AVR-2308CI and a Sony BDP-S350. I bought them all thru Crutchfields. The sound is great, it's exactly like having the movie theatre in your house. And the little speakers, oh my god, they truely accent your room. I couldn't be happier. Oh, and let's not forget Crutchfields!!! They are the best. Their customer and tech support holds true to their claim. I had alot of questions setting up my equipment and they were there to help every step of the way.

Sound is not accurate

Written by: Dusty from Midvale, ID on February 1, 2009

Because of the size of the drivers, the frequency response on the satellites are terrible, as well as the sub. Uses cheap paper drivers on the satellite cubes. Accoustimass module attempts to compensate for lack of bass from the cubes, but fails. Bass can be muddy at times. Hooked them up to replace some Sony bookshelf speakers I have, but was disappointed. Bose has the ability to make a good product, but this isn't one of them.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've owned my new speakers for about 3 weeks now. They sound absolutely terrific! I am using my Bose speakers with my new Onkyo TX-SR606S receiver, and they work great together. Using the receivers self calibrating feature worked perfectly, and I have had no complaints with the operation. The only problem I did have is that the wires seem to want to slip out of the back of the cube speakers with the slightest tug on the wires. The center speaker does not have this issue for me and the wires are held snug when I pull on them. I contacted Bose support, and they recommended using just a slight spray of WD-40 on the wire mechanism to ensure it is moving freely to grab the wires. I haven't tried this yet, I'm a little afraid to do it. But the lack of a good firm hold on the wire hasn't seemed to affect the sound quality.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've only hooked these speakers up temporarily with a brand new Onkyo 806 Receiver and it is simply amazing. I don't know if it's the Onkyo or the Bose but it's a match made in heaven. These speakers put out room (large room) filling sound and the volume still has 3/4th the way to go. The price seams a bit high but once you stack them up to other quality speakers it's actually a good deal.

Great Home Theatre Speaker System

Written by: Jeff from Martinsville, VA on October 8, 2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased the Bose Acoustimass 10 Series IV speaker system to upgrade my home theatre system. The system was relatively easy to set up and calibrate. (I am using a Yamaha RX-V663 receiver, utilizing the YPAO acoustic optimizer which is very easy to use.) I auditioned several brands of speakers before deciding on the Bose. To my ear, the Bose system just sounded more natural and clear than the others. Everything from movies, to music sounds really natural. I am amazed at the bass output. Bass notes sound full and deep without coloration or distortion. Midrange and treble sounds are clear and distinct. I noticed immediately I could clearly hear each musical instrument in a musical passage. Movie dialog and sound effects sound full and rich, which adds greatly to the home theatre experience. I am very pleased with the Acoustimass 10s. I highly recommend them for the sound they produce, but they are also very decor friendly. They blend well with your room without being intrusive. You should give these a listen. I think you will be amazed at the sound. You can buy with confidence, because Crutchfield has the best satisfaction warrenty around with no hassles. Bose and Crutchfield are both highly recommended in my book.

I couldn't have asked for a better home theater speaker system. I have tried larger floor speakers and the Bose Acoustimass 10 blew them all away. It is amazing the amount of sound and clarity that 5 small cubes and a sub can produce. I purchased the Acoustimass 10 with an Onkyo TX- SR605 and I am in heaven. Thanks Crutchfield...excellent price and excellent customer service.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great (but pricey) speaker system, amazing clarity. I'm now hearing sounds (good sounds) that I never heard with my huge cabinet speakers. Hookup took awhile because I was connecting them to pre-installed wall wiring (used the Bose Speaker Wire Adapter Kit). And as always Crutchfield delivered the order amazingly fast.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had done some research and decided to use this speaker system with a Onkyo TX-SR604 receiver. The one review I read at this site made me worry about my decision. The sales and delivery from Crutchfield was amazing. I only wished I had seen their $100 credit if I purchased the receiver and speakers from them before I ordered the receiver from another company. Setup of the system was a breeze and the auto calibration feature of the receiver worked perfectly. I am not experiencing the same mid range and subwofer issues posted earlier. Price of the speakers is the only thing that keeps me from giving a rating of 5.
Pros: Excellent sound, easy setup, stylish
Cons: Price
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had a set of single cube set Bose speakers at our old house that we really liked. We sold them as part of the house. So we picked these up for our new house. So far, no matter how much tweaking of the Denon 2307ci receiver we do, we just can't get a great sound out of these. The sub is loud and boomy, and there is almost no midrange. For now, it is ok to live with, but this will be the first thing we replace in out home theater. Live and learn.
Pros: small, stylish, and powerful.
Cons: poor mids, boomy sub, expensive, proprietary wiring.

Features

Virtually Invisible Speaker System Design: The Virtually Invisible speaker system design gives you expansive sound without dominating your décor. The Acoustimass module delivers deep, powerful bass without audible port noise, so it can be hidden almost anywhere in the listening area. The music and sound effects seem to come from the tiny cube speaker arrays.

Powered Acoustimass Module: The Acoustimass module uses a proprietary enclosure and patented technologies to produce deep, rich bass with clarity and balance.

Direct/Reflecting Speaker Technology: The Direct/Reflecting speaker technology helps the compact cube speaker arrays deliver more open, spacious sound throughout the listening area. You hear enhanced surround sound and exceptionally lifelike stereo with a larger soundstage.

Horizontal Center Channel Speaker: Designed to visually complement flat-panel TV screens while delivering natural-sounding dialogue and vocals.

Integrated Signal Processing: The Bose patented integrated signal processing compensates for the human ear's reduced sensitivity to bass at low volumes. You hear the proper balance of deep bass, even at very low, late-night listening levels and dialogue continues to sound natural.

Automatic System Protection Circuitry: When played at high volume, this system's automatic protection circuitry activates to prevent damage to the system from electrical stress or overload. When this happens you may notice a slight decrease in volume, which is normal.

Drivers: The powered Acoustimass module uses two 5-1/4" high-excursion paper cone woofers, each with a foam surround. Each of the four cube speaker arrays features dual 2-1/2" wide-range Twiddlers. The top and bottom sections of the cube speaker arrays can be rotated to create room-filling sound patterns. The horizontal center speaker uses the same dual 2-1/2" wide-range Twiddlers as the cube arrays.

Controls

Right Side of Acoustimass Module:

 • LFE: increases or decreases the relative level of low-frequency effects on movie soundtracks
 • Bass: increases or decreases the bass level of the Acoustimass module

Bottom of Acoustimass Module:

 • Audio Input: 15-pin male jack for use with supplied system input cable, the other end of the system input cable has tinned wire that connects to the left front, right front, center, left rear and right rear speaker outputs and a mono male RCA plug that connects to the subwoofer output of the A/V receiver or amplifier
 • Audio Output: 5 RCA jacks (Left Front, Right Front, Center, Left Rear, and Right Rear); using the supplied speaker cables, these jacks connect to the cube speaker arrays
 • Power: jack for use with supplied AC power cord

Mounting Options

Speaker Mounting: Each cube speaker array and the center channel speaker has a rear-mounted 5mm female threaded insert. The threaded inserts allow you to mount the speaker arrays using optional stands or wall-mount brackets.
