If you think the price of Bose's Acoustimass 3 system is amazing, wait 'til you hear how it sounds! The new and improved Acoustimass module pumps out bass notes from anywhere in your room. Because low frequencies are omnidirectional, you can hide it out of sight, and the bass seems to come from the tiny cubes! And since the compact Acoustimass module can be hidden nearly anywhere in your room, and the two single-cube satellites are small enough to fit in the palm of your hand (even smaller than Bose's previous versions!), this system fits your decor as easily as it fits your budget.

The Acoustimass 3 Series IV, optional wall/ceiling brackets, and optional speaker stands are available in black or white (see below).

  • two single-cube, video-shielded satellite speakers
  • Acoustimass bass module
  • automatic protection circuitry prevents damage from electrical stress or overload
  • recommended power 10-100 watts with receivers rated from 4 to 8 ohms
  • satellites: 3-1/8"H x 3-1/8"W x 4-1/8"D each; bass module: 7-1/2"W x 14"H x 12-5/8"D
  • warranty: 5 years

Why choose bookshelf speakers?

Bookshelf speakers may be small in size, but they can deliver surprisingly big sound. Some ultra-compact models even fit on a desktop. Most are right at home in tight spaces like shelves, so they're usually good choices for your home theater's rear channels. For the best performance, try placing bookshelf speakers on solid speaker stands to help the sound really "open up." If you want full bass impact, add a powered subwoofer and enjoy punchy sound that's as deeply satisfying as that of floor-standing speakers.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I ordered this set to replace some older 12" Pioneers & also to save some floor space in my living room. I received them via UPS yesterday before I had to go to work. I was very anxious to get off so I could test drive these tiny little fellows. At first I was VERY apprehensive about this system as they are only the single cube. I am very familiar to Bose products. The first time I heard a Bose product was back in the middle 70's, Bose 901's series 1. I was totally BLOWN away by them although the bass response was a little lacking. Anyhow, I got them hooked up & positioned, turned on my old 1981 stereo & was equally BLOWN away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm hearing those small nuances in the music that I've never heard through my Pioneers & they retailed for $80 more 15 years ago! Listening to my music in a different perspective all over again just as if I've never heard it before! I am MORE than PLEASED with these tiny (almost invisable) speakers! I turned a good friend unto the AM 5's 11 years ago, told him that I had ordered these. He told me that I might want to consider getting a powered sub cause the low end lacked a little on his 5's. I hear NO low end deficiency in these but you need to remember that placement is VERY critical! I would give this tiny system a 10 star rating for value/performance! As I stated, I am a VERY PLEASED & SATISFIED customer!!!!!!!!!!! "Tiny" Mike

Sound doors are open but not inviting

Not one of the best sounding systems on the market , but enjoyable due to the ease of hookup and size. Only thing I did not like was having to run wires from the amp to the Acoustimass module then out to the cubes.
Not the most engaging audio system this is a nice balanced system for background music then again play it at loud volumes it will not breakup. For an average listener its a neutral kicked back sound.

-Treble is nice and clear but that's as far as it goes. Vocals , wind and string instruments sound good but are not mached by detail that consist of seperate tweeters. The cubes keyrole is to fictionate mid-high freqencies.

-Bass is nice for me since most to all my music is acoustic. Most may say 5-1/4'' woofer is too small for a subwoofer but there is your keyword (subwoofer) , Bose uses a Acoustimass module. Using seperate ports and chambers inside the module amplifying low frequency production rather then radiating them directly into the room which can make subwoofer placement easy to pick out.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm very familiar with Bose products & you can't beat a better speaker system for the price. I just gave a set of these to my parents for xmas and they sounded fantastic. My parents were blown away. One thing I've also noticed over the years is that Bose has great customer service as well. Definately two thumbs up!!!

Give 'em a Try

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

When my old shelf system kicked the bucket I decided to try bose out, but really didn't want to spend the money on some of their higher quality items. I called Crutchfield and ordered this set and a Sony 100wx2 Amplifier. I was really amazed at the amount of sound that was produced from these little guys. I swapped a set of 10" Sansui speakers and a 110wx2 Marantz amplifier for the Sony, Bose setup and it sounded twice as good with a more dept in sound. Also, I mounted them on the wall and it gave me loads more floor space. If you are looking for more quality in your music I would recommend at least trying this system out.

Acoustimass Speaker Technology: Unlike conventional subwoofers that radiate sound from a vibrating cone, the Acoustimass module launches sound into the room on a column of air. This innovation results in bass so natural and pure, its source is almost impossible to localize, allowing you to place the Acoustimass module almost anywhere. And all the sound appears to come from the tiny cube speakers.

Automatic Protection Circuit: When played at high volume, this system's automatic protection circuit activates to prevent damage to the system from electrical stress or overload. When this happens, you may notice a slight decrease in volume, which is normal.

  • Each single cube contains a 2-1/2" wide-range cone driver.
  • The two satellites are video shielded, but the bass module is not shielded.
  • The bass module contains a single 5-1/4" dual voice coil low-frequency driver.
  • The bass module has a port opening in the front of the unit.

Wiring: Wires are run from the left and right speaker output of the receiver to the bass module which has two spring clip speaker inputs. Wires are then run from the two spring clip speaker outputs on the bass module to the left and right cubes. Since the crossover networks needed to protect the cubes are in the bass module NOT in the individual cubes, the units must be connected this way.

Wall Mounting: Each of the satellites has a 5mm female thread in the back allowing for the use of optional screw in type brackets.

  • As with most Bose products, many specifications such as frequency response and sensitivity are not given.
  • Power is given as "compatible with receivers or amplifiers rated from 10-100 watts per channel".
  • Impedance is given as "compatible with receivers or amplifiers rated from 4-8 ohms".
