Product Research

Features

2.1Ch System: The Bose Acoustimass 5 (V) system features two direct/reflecting dual-cube speaker arrays and a passive Acoustimass module. This combination produces a powerful, stereo experience. Speakers cables are also included.

2 Direct/Reflecting Dual-Cube Speakers: Direct/Reflecting speaker technology helps the two compact dual-cube speaker arrays to deliver more open, spacious sound throughout the listening area. You hear enhanced sound and exceptionally lifelike stereo with a larger soundstage. Each of the two dual-cube speaker arrays features dual 2.5" wide-range "Twiddler" drivers.

Acoustimass Module: The Acoustimass module uses a proprietary enclosure and patented technologies to produce deep, rich bass with clarity and balance that compliment the two dual-cube speakers perfectly. The Acoustimass module has a front-firing bass port for greater efficiency and bigger bass response.

Wiring: The included speaker cables are run from the left and right speaker output of your receiver to the Acoustimass module which has two spring clip speaker inputs. Wires are then run from the two spring clip speaker outputs on the Acoustimass module to the left and right dual-cube speaker's proprietary inputs. Since the crossover networks needed to protect the cubes are in the Acoustimass module and not in the individual dualcubes, the units must be connected this way.

Mounting Options & Placement: The Bose AM5 (V) system offers flexible placement for the speakers and Acoustimass module.

  • Speaker Mounting: These speakers can be simply table-top mounted, or you can mount the speakers on wall-brackets, floor-stands, or table-stands (all sold separately).
  • Acoustimass Module Placement: For best sound quality, the Acoustimass module should be placed on along the same wall and equal distance to the two dual-cube speakers.

Recommended Power: The Bose AM5 (V) speaker system is compatible with AV receivers and amplifiers rated from 10 to 100 watts per channel, rated from 4 to 8 ohms.

Auto System Protection: When played at high volume, the Bose Acoustimass 5 (V)'s automatic protection circuit activates to prevent damage to the system from electrical stress or overload. When this happens, you may notice a slight decrease in volume. This indicates that the power input may have exceeded safe levels.

Q
Can i use this with a turntable and amp? Will I get a warm sound from the speakers?
anthony  Apr 30, 2020
1 answer
A
Yes, I use the Bose Acoustimass 5 with a turntable and amp. The hookup is easy, since there is no subwoofer. I am not an audiophile, but i think "warm sound" is personal, somewhat subjective, and depends on more than just the speakers. For example, the type of amp and the amp's audio setup can also alter the warm sound. Regarding the Bose speakers, I am using them with a Technics turntable connected to the phono-in on a Denon AVR and listening on the pure direct setting. There is no discrete listening area in this larger room and I mostly listen to old Jazz records. My overall perception is that the Bose speakers give the LP recordings a clear, dynamic sound that slightly accentuates the treble, even with the bass module reproducing good bass sound. The Bose speakers are not as "warm" as some, larger, more expensive speakers in the same setup, but I am happy with them for the price and for the way I use them. Note: The mid-range crossover between the bass module and satellite speakers makes positioning the bass module correctly important for achieving optimal stereo effect in that range.

They don't work by themselves as they are not powered. You have to have an amplifier to bring them to life

Q
Can you use the Bose sound touch wireless link adapter to make the cube speakers wireless?
chad  Feb 18, 2018

A
The cube speakers have to be wired to the Acoustimass module. I used the WB-50 wall brackets and hid the wires behind the wall. The WB-50's are pretty slick, you can push in the clip and release the speakers. The sound quality is amazing from this set! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask! My whole house is SoundTouch.
jason  Feb 19, 2018
A
No you can't - you won't be able to make direct connection from your wireless link adapter to the Acoustimass speaker system; you can however, make indirect connection via your home receiver. I suppose if you know what you're doing it's possible to make direct connection uisng adapter of some sort but I'd rather follow Bose' strict guidelines and stick with it as these machines are engineer with high degree of sophistication and precision. Happy connectivity.

edwin ramos  Nov 03, 2016
A
No. You'll need an amp and ideally, an AV amp.
joel m.  Nov 02, 2016
A
No. It must be connected to a regular speaker output. The system is not self powered...
alvaro  Nov 01, 2016

Based on the format of this particular Bose system, it requires a 90 watt or stronger amp to function decently. Typical TVs are not usually designed to push that kind of format or power. It's best to consider buying an amp to connect to your television, since most televisions today are usually designed to function with an HDMI, ethernet, RCA cable, or even an optical cord as there are some speaker systems that can connect to portable devices such as an Apple TV, etc that uses the smart tv technologies. But in short; buy an amp. I hope this helps. Fred
fred  Nov 01, 2016
A
The quick answer is no. However, you can connect your TV's output to a stereo receiver's channel input (Yamaha receiver) and hear the TV's audio through that sound system.

Q
I have a Harmon Kardon AVR30 audio receiver unit. Will the Acoustimass 5 series V speaker system work with it? I would appreciate an answer from the Bose experts.
ernest  May 15, 2016
1 answer
A
The Bose Acoustimass 5 series V speaker system is compatible with AV receivers and amplifiers rated from 10 to 100 watts per channel, rated from 4 to 8 ohms; the information listed for the HK ARV 30 receiver you have indicates that it produces 60 watts per channel into 8 ohms, so that would fit nicely within the specs that Bose recommends for these speakers. I hope that helps. My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=159

Q
Is the Acoustimass module powered, and if so, how long is the power chord?
ernest  May 13, 2016
5 answers
A
It has no power cord works with negative and positive lead to receiver.
edwin ramos  May 14, 2016
A
No separate power cord required. Two sets of speaker cables are supplied - one set goes from the bass module to the satellite speakers and the other set goes from the bass module to the amplifier/receiver. This is how power is supplied to the system. The length of the supplied cables were more than sufficient for my system.
john  May 14, 2016

Q
The price for this Bose Acoustimass 5 series V system says $399.99 each. Does that mean that the entire 3 piece system is $399.99 OR is EACH piece $399.99? The word 'each' makes it very confusing.

A
Thanks for your question. This includes 2 Direct/Reflecting dual-cube speakers and the Acoustimass module. On the product page under the details tab, you will find this information under "What's in the box". Hope that helps.

Q
What is the maximum power rating for the AM5 Series V? The setup part of the owners manual says for receivers rated from 10 - 200 watts. But the specifications at the end of the owners manual says 10 - 100 watts. Your response on your website to a previous question says 10 - 100 watts. So what is correct?
james  Jun 02, 2016
1 answer
A
Bose is generally very vague when it comes to the specifications of the home audio products they manufacture--I also noticed where they list 10-200 watts on page 7 of the manual, then change to 10-100 watts on page 9. I tried contacting Bose's support directly for more info, but they didn't have anyone available on the weekend. I have also sent a note to our product researcher's to see if they can shed some light on this and correct the info on our website; but in the meantime I would recommend adhering to the more conservative 10-100 watts listing when connecting an amplifier/receiver to the Bose Acoustimass 5 Series V speaker system.
