Overview

Our take on the Bose® Companion® 2 Series II multimedia speaker system

Looking for better sound from your favorite music files, videos and games? Bose's Companion® 2 Series II multimedia speaker system will add depth and clarity to your computer audio sources without taking over your desk. You'll enjoy engaging sound and still have room to get your work done.

Looking for better sound from your favorite music files, videos and games? Bose's Companion® 2 Series II multimedia speaker system will add depth and clarity to your computer audio sources without taking over your desk. You'll enjoy engaging sound and still have room to get your work done.

Bose's TrueSpace® circuitry is the key — it creates a broad soundstage from speakers spaced no further apart than the width of your computer monitor. You'll hear improved warmth and detail from your MP3s and streaming audio, and added punch from your computer games and DVDs. Two sets of audio inputs let you hook up an additional source, like a portable MP3 player, without having to disconnect the speakers from your computer.

Crutchfield delivered these within 2 or 3 days of ordering on line. These little babies are attractive, installed in 2 minutes, and sound great for their size. My daughter has them connected to her Mac laptop. And even the base sounds good.

Crutchfield delivered these within 2 or 3 days of ordering on line. These little babies are attractive, installed in 2 minutes, and sound great for their size. My daughter has them connected to her Mac laptop. And even the base sounds good.

Pros: Looks nice. Sounds great for size. Price can't be beat.

Cons: Compared to my other Bose speakers, these are not as powerful. But they cost about $200 less!!

Great computer speakers

Anonymous from Washington, DC on 3/27/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These computer speakers have totally spoiled my ears for computer sound. They were so good at home, I had to buy a second pair for work. I can't blast the music as loud as I'd like to (and get quality sound) at home, but just right for work.

Pros: Look good and elegant

Cons: Wish they were louder

Stellar Sound

JH from Houston, TX on 3/12/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These are the Little Speakers That Can. Crystal clear Bose sound quality at a ridiculously reasonable price and compact enough to live on either side of a 21" iMac. I couldn't be happier if they cooked me dinner.

Pros: They are small and mighty.

Cons: I don't have some for every computer in the house.

Disappinted

David from Puerto Rico on 3/12/2013

I change my Logitech for this brand. I was very happy but when put it in on, my god . Not hight bass. Very expensive for the price. You buy other brand with best sound and bass. Please not waste your money. If you want waste money ok buy this speaker. The sound is not bad bud is too much money for this speaker.

Pros: Compact speaker

Cons: Low bass

Great Sound!

richflores from Laguna Beach, CA on 3/5/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The sound coming from these speakers have great quality. There is enough bass to compliment them, no need for a subwoofer unless you want more bang for your buck.

Pros: Great price. Built solid. Easy setup. Great Sound.

Cons: There is a "hissing noise" in the background when the speakers are turned on and no music is coming through them. Although you don't hear it when music is coming through, it can be annoying. The only way to stop this noise is to turn off the speakers. Anyone who has suggestions to get rid of this "noise" will be appreciated.

Outstanding speakers

SJC from Danville, Illinois on 1/27/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Small speakers provide high quality room-filling sound. I will be using them for Keynote presentations off of a Macbook Pro. Bought a 15 foot 3.5 mm stereo male to to 2 RCA male extension cable to bring audio from the laptop headphone jack to the speakers which will be away from the podium closer to the projector/audience. I practiced in a large 2 story room and the audio is clear and undistorted.

Cons:

Smooth sounding speakers

Tubaman from Laurel, MD on 1/26/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers sound very clear and mellow. Bass is excellent but treble is understated. The lack of tone controls on the speakers is a major shortcoming.

Pros: Small footprint, excellent bass and classic styling offer plenty of bang for the buck. No subwoofer is needed.

Cons: No tone controls.

Bose Companion 2 speakers

mmilversted from Phoenix, AZ on 1/17/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The speakers are great however I purchased them to connect to an iPad. The connection cable from the main speaker does not fit into the iPad so I had to buy a different cable in order to make it work. I wish the literature had explained the connection so I was prepared to spend another $20.00 or could have ordered the separate cable with the speakers.

What I expected

MRBM from Hilo, HI on 9/22/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The sound quality is very good and what I expected from a "low end" Bose speaker. I've had other Bose products, and have listened to many other Bose products in store. I was buying the "name" in this instance because I believe in it's quality. Those who want more oomph will just need to buy the next model up--that one will rock your home.

Cons:

Unrivaled.

I purchased these speakers for my iMac Computer. I am pleased with the sound quality, and would recommend them because they are a good value. One minor disappointment, is they could use more volume.

Pros: Great sound quality

Cons: Max volume not enough

Not that good

thestockk from NJ on 8/2/2012

Disappointed. I thought i was upgrading my Altec Lansing speakers w/sub to these speakers, but not what i was expecting. I need my sub woofer back, good bye Bose Companion 2. The cables are way too short and it lacks base. Plus it has lots of noise. Actually hard to listen to.

Pros: Hmmm, ok for desktop generic speakers, but too pricey for that.

Cons: No base, short cables.

Great desktop speakers - as long as you don't push the limits

WhatLukeSays from Richmond, VA on 6/9/2012

The Bose Companion 2 Series II Multimedia Speakers are Bose's entry level computer speakers that they claim are a performance upgrade over most conventional computer speakers. Pros: - Magnetically shielded casing - Shape of casing points speakers up to your head - Easy to set up - Headphone jack on front of speaker means you don't have to unplug from your computer - Dual audio inputs for mixed output - Well built and sturdy - Small enough to be portable Cons: - Hissing noise when no music is playing Sound quality: - Very crisp highs and mids - Bass is full, but will not blow you away - Impressive volume If you would like to see a more comprehensive review, please feel free to watch my in-depth video review that I made for my YouTube channel. I cover everything from the build quality to how these speakers actually sound. Thanks for reading and watching! WhatLukeSays

Tom from Greene, RI on 5/18/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My kids wanted me to buy something I wanted, so just gave me money. I had a simple set of PC speakers but really like music and they didn't cut it. So with the wind fall, I bit the bullet and purchased these speaker. My first thought 'highly over priced'. As Bose believes they are they best, well they are good, maybe not the best. Anyway, I am very impressed with the sound these speaker produce. Placed correctly left/right and within 4 feet facing you, they are marvalous. If the price doesn't scare you, buy baby buy.

Pros: fine quality for PC proximity, good base, good treble.

Cons: price (maybe), no power light, PC to speaker cable is too short (had to find a longer one).

TheGoat from Portland, OR on 4/2/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have these speakers hooked up to my Samsung Laptop Computer. I originally tried to get by with a $40.00 speaker that plugs into your USB input and of course I was not happy. With speakers, unlike other products, the more you pay the better the product. These Bose speakers sound really good. They look very nice and clean on my desk but most important they sound good. I won't say they sound great because I know if I paid $300 or $400 on a speaker system then that would sound a lot better. But for the price I would say these are a great "bang for your buck" product. I would recommend them to anyone looking for good sound from your laptop when playing iTunes songs or watching movies.

Pros: Really Good Sound They Look Really Nice Good Product For The Price

Cons: None

Great Computer Speakers

Cindy B from Central City, KY on 3/23/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great computer speakers! They aren't comparable to music system speakers that you have hooked to your stero but they still rock for computer speakers. They do have a short cord that makes them hard to run through my computer cabinet to hook up but the attached speaker has a longer cord to spread them apart. They should have a longer connection cord to hook up to your computer. I guess that I could buy an extra extension but I think Bose should supply a long enough cord. The volume level does not seem to be quit loud enough to hear music from your computer when in another room. Still I rate these better speakers for a computer than your ordinary computer speakers for the price. You do get to hear music that doesn't sound like it's coming from a can.

Pros: Good (computer) speakers for the money.

Cons: Computer connection cord is too short. The volume is high enough if you are sitting in front of them but not for listening in another room.

AWESOME!!!!!!

Happy Customer from Gainesville, FL on 3/22/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This sound so terrific! They work perfectly with my Mac mini and I was happy to see that I didn't have to buy any type of adapter like I did with another part of speakers. The sound is clear and allows for plenty of volume. They were super easy to install - you can just look at the pictures and figure it out - so simple you won't need text. The price is hard to beat for the quality you receive. Shipping and handling was lightening fast. I don't see how you can go wrong.

Pros: Compatible with Macs. Easy to install. Awesome value. Attractive.

I've never been a big fan of Bose, But I gotta tell you these speakers are amazing for a computer. My Pastor got a pair of these for his birthday and had me listen to them on his laptop. I was sold. And I know i got them cheaper at Crutchfield than what they paid for his. All I can say, for the money, I know you can't beat a deal like this with sound like this!

I knew from growing up in the UK that Bose only produced superior items. When Bose became more active with its advertising campaigns in the USA, I knew it would only be a matter of time before I owned one of their products. I am extremely happy with them and would refer these speakers to anyone looking for a product that was reliable and well worth every penny spent.

Not bad for the money

Lou from 19810 on 1/10/2012

I'm not nearly close to being the biggest Bose fan in the world as they seem to cut highs and lows down to pump up the midrange. For home theater speakers, I would lean towards Paradigm or something similar that won't cause me to sell a kidney. That being said, for the price these are fantastic computer speakers! I was using a two speaker and sub system that cost about half what the Bose did. It took me a while to get used to the booming sub I had before, but I prefer the Bose sound for Youtube videos, etc.

Pros: Sound quality and price

Cons: N/A

Inexpensive - Lives up to Name!

KC from Texas on 10/25/2011

I read and was disappointed with negative reviews on this product when raters state "not enough base at high volumes".... Remember folks, you found this product under Computer speakers and not Home theater. if you want more loud, more crystal, surround..., then you will pay accordingly. I got these Bose Companion II to compensate for my weak LED 27" TV speakers. They are very portable, dual voltage, low vis cables. If you want remote vol ability - naturally you will pay more. That is business and reasonable. Hope this helps. KC

I've been using these speakers with my computer to listen to I-Tunes, Pandora and other music souces at home for several years. I am pleased with their performance. The sound quality is consistent and even at higher volume, they don't crackle or get tinny. For fairly small units, the bass sound is good as well. The sound is as good now as when I purchased the speakers. They've been a very good value

I should have replaced my 10 year old OE speakers long ago! These Bose Speakers perform much better than I expected, even though I purchased a Bose Lifestyle system long ago and I still use the great speakers from that unit. I'll probably buy two more sets and put them away for Christmas presents.

Pros:

Cons:

Great sound, small package

Jose from Miami, FL on 5/12/2011

I had these speaker for a little over 6 months and definitely the sound belies their size. They look great and are very easy to install. They have a rather "middle ground" sound, not too bright, not too bassy. If you watch movies online or listen to Pandora online - they are an excellent choice. Mind you - they are NOT audiophile quality speakers so keep that in mind if you are a a critical listener! Now they do have a few negatives - first off they are not loud so you may need to crank up the volume at times (but don't worry the sound doesn't crackle) and some of the power cords fit a little loose to the speaker themselves so they can easily be accidentally pulled off ( I used one of those 3M adhesive removable hooks taped to the back of my desk and wrapped the excess cord around it to keep it in place.) Bottom line, for the price they are excellent and Bose products tend to last a very long time - I have a few of their products.

Crutchfield does a great job.

Pretty Good but Not Great

Tom from Rochester NY on 4/17/2011

I've had these for 2+ years -- when I got them I was impressed with the in-store staged demo, thought they were a good bang for the buck -- but realized over time that they are pretty much limited to mid frequency ranges, cannot handle bass-heavy songs at even low volumes, highs not especially clear or accurate. So in the end the list price is about right for the limited capability. Originally used these with Creative X-Fi soundcard that came with my Dell Studio XPS i7 desktop -- always gave the speakers the benefit of the doubt, thinking the bass issues were tied to the card, its low-end DAC, and the noise inside the PC -- but I recently got a NuForce udac-2 to eliminate those variables, and everything (background noise, clarity, separation, etc.) improved dramatically -- especially noticeable with Audio-Technica ATH-M50s headphones, exposing the Boses as the weak link. I really wanted to like these speakers, because the sound is pretty clean and full through a good portion of the frequency range -- but in the end, they are what they are, an average speaker at an average price -- hence a 3-star rating.

The price from Crutchfield was great, and thought the Bose brand speaks for itself. I am NOT disappointed in the least! For what I paid and for what I use it for, the sound is absolutely fantastic!

So Good Almost Hard to Believe.

JimF from Dakota, Illinois on 12/31/2010

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

We are thrilled with our new Bose Compact 2, Series 2 speakers. They are so good, and so full of sound that they sound more like a 5.1 system than simply two speakers. They arrived yesterday and were a breeze to attach to our new Acer laptop. They produce more than enough volume to fill our kitchen, and sound so full of deep base that you would swear there is a woofer in the system. They have an amazing clarity for both vocal and instrumental music, and we are completely satisfied that we have an amazing set of computer speakers for our laptop. I would most highly recommend these Bose Compact 2 speakers for any laptop or desktop system. They automatically adjust for optimal bass or treble, and have a separate set of inputs that allows for MP3 or separate CD player or other device to be plugged in without detaching the computer. Simply a terrific set of speakers.

Pros:

Cons:

waste of money

Tan man from Brownwood, TX on 12/3/2010

I would not recommend buying these speakers. They don't get very loud at all but the sound quality is good. You may want to go with a higher end bose system like the companion 3.

Cons:

Substantial speaker set

RonR from Summit, NJ on 9/25/2010

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers provide a clear and well amplified stereo sound when connected to my Dell Inspiron 9300, and the speakers look good. Probably the pleasing sound quality and volume is due to the fact that they are separately powered, i.e., they do not rely on current from the laptop's USB connection as do some less expensive speakers. The miniature RCA jack had to be rotated to make a good connection to the laptop, probably a shortcoming of the Dell.

Cons:

these are good speakers for basic computer needs. I don't watch too much TV on the computer and nor do I listen to music, But speakers are good enough to do either. Solid middle end speakers. Totally fine for hearing news clips online, et al. for my basic needs, speakers are a good deal.

Superb Speakers for the Price

Denny from Fort Worth on 8/19/2010

I was once told that all I needed to know about audio could be summed into one word: Bose. At first, I thought that was pretty silly, but in reality, I find it's totally true. I bought these speakers for my iMac and iPhone. The sound is all Bose, letting me hear my favorites anew, as if I've not heard them before. Don't let the price fool you, these are superb speakers.

Very Good Speakers - Companion 3 Better but More Expensive

Baltic22 from Fairchester, CT on 3/29/2010

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These are great speakers, the sound is far superior to any other PC speakers I had. However, at the upper ranges of volume - I guess from about 85 to 90% of maximum through to maximum - the sound got 'tinny' with vibe overtones. If you don't take it to the maximum they are just great. I wanted better sound at the higher ranges so I got the Companion 3 set, which yields wonderful sound at all ranges (see my review of this system). The companion 2 are great for most uses.

Good Imaging

Karl from Scottsdale, AZ on 6/12/2009

I had the opportunity to listen to several brands side by side, including the Bose upgrades. For the price, this is a pretty darn good value. The sound from these Bose, in my opinion, is much richer and fuller than the non-Bose models, even those with a sub. My thoughts on this are based on music where the application equalizer is set to nil. The imaging on these things are great. I suspect the rear ports help. (They sit 4 -6" from the wall.) Bass is good, certainly not wall shaking, knock you down heavy bass, but good. (If you have the extra $150 to upgrade to the Comp 3 w/ the sub- very sweet. But, $150 more...) Sensitivity is respectable. They handle the volume very well. Yes, crank it up all the way and it will distort. I believe that there is an expectation that all Bose should sound like a 5K system, which is unrealistic. My ears say these are a good buy for their intended purpose and I think you will be pleased.

Pros:

Cons:

Save your money, really

Steve from Mercer on 5/6/2009

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers will play very load without distortion. They are dead silent when no music is being played; there is no audible background hiss at all. Those are the good points. The bad is that these speakers have a very processed sound to them. For the same amount of money you would do better buying a pair of Klipsch or another brand.

christopher from Roselle, IL on 3/17/2009

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

You would think that with the BOSE name these speakers should be great. Not even close! The bass response is very poor. Mids and highs are okay. I had better sound from my old speakers. There are better choices out there for the money.

Best small speaker system I've ever owned. Big sound, clear. Excellent for a computer or a small T.V. After listening to these, I went out a bought another, more sophisticated Bose system for another small TV.

Amazing Sound in a Small Package

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Amazing Sound from these speakers! took me around 7 minutes to unpackage and set-up these babys..They are around 30"s apart and they still sound awesome, I use I-Tunes and if you play with the EQ on it you can get some real nice sound off of these speakers. The Higher Bitrate MP3's sound incredible, but even the old 128 bitrates sound good. The clairty of vocals, the depth of the bass is just fine for use here at work. I Highly recommend them!

Bose is still No. 1 in my book!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The recently purchased Companion II, Series II computer speakers are actually my second set of Companion II speakers. The first set serves as stereo speakers for our LCD TV in our bedroom (they improve the sound by a factor of 10!). The second set is serving as computer speakers for my laptop in my office. As per usual, the sound is extraordinary--full and spacious even though the speakers are about 20 inches apart. Both I-Tunes music and my flight games sound unbelievably good. I have owned and used Bose products for years, starting in the early 80's with the legendary 901s. My home theater has the Accoustimass 15 speaker system and sounds fantastic. I have bought various products from Crutchfield over the years. Their service and support are exemplary. Keep up the good work!

Incredible value. Fantastic sound given their size. Sturdy, heavy construction. My only regret is that I didn't buy two sets.

It's worth paying more for a quality product like the Companion 2. Amazing sound from these small speakers. From this point on all I'm buying is Bose. You can't find quality like this anywhere else.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased from Crutchfield and received order in less than 3 days. Couldn't wait to try them out. Easy to set up. First time listening I found them disappointing. Sound was too booming, Muddled sound, speech over talk radio was not satisfactory at all. I played for about an hour and decided to see what Microsoft had to say. Their web site suggested SRS plugin. I downloaded it. The flexibility is amazing. The improvement to the sound of the speakers made them worthy of the name Bose. I suggest you really would benefit from the SRS plugin. It's not expensive, and really makes these speakers amazing. For the price they cannot be beat.

These speakers are perfect for when you really want great sounding speakers, but don't want to take up the space (or spend the money) on the Companion 3 Series II. These speakers blow away the typical speakers that get thrown in with a computer system. However, you're just not going to get the bass of a full speaker system from these little boxes, and the sound isn't going to quite "fill" a room (though they'll get pretty loud without distorting). But they're the best two-piece speaker system for the price that I've heard - and they're great for listening to some music while sitting in front of the computer or in the office/bedroom/etc. I especially like that I can leave them on all the time and there's no audible hiss - they're just about dead silent when not in use (unlike a lot of cheaper speakers). There's a convenient headphone jack located on one of the speakers that makes it convenient to listen on headphones without having to unplug the speakers from the computer.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was looking for a set of speakers for my work computer and seen these at a big box store in my area. I've purchased from Crutchfield before and have received excellent service and pricing, so I ordered them. For as small as these speakers are, they really rock. Excellent highs and very good lows while not taking up space on the desk. I would recommend these speakers to anyone. Also, any sound equiptment with the name Bose attached to to it is a quality product.

Very Surprised

Skeeter from Juneau, AK on 10/14/2007

I recently went off for schooling for two months and left my computer speakers back home and couldn't stand the cheesy two piece system I was given to use for my stay here, so I went and picked up these things expecting them to sound alright and was totally blown away at how large they sound. The bass is a little boomy, but they haven't been broken in yet so it's kinda expected. I'm very impressed overall and will probably use these to replace my three piece when I get back home. Currently I can hear a nearby picture on the wall rattling a little and am totally glad I spent a hundred bucks on these things. I've owned quite a bit of audio equipment in my days and this is my first bose product and I have nothing bad to say about them.

Best Sound For Price...and space

Tom from Winona Lake, IN on 3/14/2007

I originally bought a set of these for my mom's computer since she has very limited desk space. To say the least I was so impressed with the sound that came from these "relatively small" speakers, I went and bought a set for myself. They replaced a Creative 3 piece system that was reasonably sounding for what I had paid for it. As soon as I plugged the Bose in, I was blown away with the amount of bass that these speakers outputted. (hint: they have bass ports on the back so if you put them up against a wall for example, the bass is dramatically improved.) The sound was so incredible that I had to prove to my friends that the Creative sub was not "secretly" hooked up under the desk. Overall I think this is the best 2-speaker setup one can buy. Definitely the best for limited space applications also. Will continue to buy Bose.

Features

Features

TrueSpace: The Bose Companion 2 speaker system features TrueSpace stereo signal processing circuitry. This proprietary technology helps maximize audio performance by widening the image of closely placed speakers, making the audio seem to come from a soundstage wider than the two speakers.

Ported Cabinets: Each speaker features a 3/4" diameter port to provide clearer, deeper bass from a small enclosure.

Magnetically Shielded: The Companion 2 speakers are magnetically shielded to allow you to place them in close proximity to your computer monitor without interfering with the picture quality.

Dual Inputs: The speakers have two stereo RCA inputs. These dual analog inputs allow you keep the speakers hooked up to your computer, while you use the second input to hook up another source, such as a portable audio device.

Automatic Tone Adjustment: The Companion 2 speakers automatically adjusts the tonal balance to give you rich audio performance at practically any listening level.

Convenient Controls: The volume control and headphone jack are conveniently located on the front of the right speaker, giving you easy access. The dual stereo RCA inputs are located on the back of the same speaker. Note: Although the controls and inputs are on the speaker designated as the "right" speaker, you can switch the speakers if it is more convenient to have the inputs and controls on the left side.

Inputs and Outputs

Rear of Right Speaker:

  • Audio Inputs: Two stereo RCA inputs
  • Power Input: 12 volt AC/1.2 Amps input for supplied AC adapter
  • Left Speaker Output: Mono 3.5mm mini-jack for feeding audio to left speaker

Front of Right Speaker:
