Our take on the Bose® Companion® 3 Series II multimedia speaker system

by Tara W.
Bose

Enjoy premium stereo sound from your computer with the Bose Companion® 3 Series II multimedia speaker system. This 3-piece speaker system produces clean, spacious audio with deep, rich bass that draws you into your music and game soundtracks. The included stands angle the compact left and right speakers slightly upward for optimal listening, and the separate Acoustimass® module slips neatly under your desk.

Expansive sound from a discreet system
The key to the Companion® 3 system's wide-open sound is Bose's TrueSpace™ signal processing circuitry — it creates a broad soundstage from slim speakers spaced no further apart than the width of your computer monitor. The small satellites handle the upper frequencies, while the Acoustimass® module adds impressive lows. Together they give you warm, lifelike sound that most conventional computer speakers simply can't match.

Control at your fingertips
The Companion® 3 system also includes an easy-to-use control pod. It houses the volume control as well as a headphone jack and an auxiliary input for an iPod® or other MP3 player. The separate control pod means you can place the speakers out of the way and still have easy access to the system's volume control and connections for additional gear.

This Bose Companion 3 Series is replacing my Bose that stopped working. This one has really been improved upon...better balanced sound. Smooooth. And, the base is not dominant like the older Bose. It, too, is balanced. It's great!

Another good product from Bose

Written By RT, Seattle, WA on Friday, February 04, 2011
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

When used as intended (on a desk in front of you while seated at a computer) there is
nothing better.
The imaging and sound stage created by the satellite speakers is fantastic,
put that together with a sub that's not booming or muddy and the result is great audio
sound from a computer.
Also, the volume knob is a neat design, allowing the volume to be changed
quickly without having to look at it.
I would recommend this system to anyone.

What I love most about Bose Companion 3 is that it so small and yet gives the
best quality sound. It comes with a control pod that lets you adjust the volume
easily. This speaker system has exceeded my expectations, it's more than worth
the price.

I was reluctant on purchasing Bose, but Crutchfield advisor told me I wouldn't be
dissappointed. He was so right!! After properly installing and hitting mine and my boy's
music on iTunes....we couldnt believe our ears!! Deep "beats" from rap...so astounding!
Absolutely quality sound from rich the deep bass to the crisp response that I want to
hear from music. A truly fine set of computer speakers.

Fantastic Sound Well Worth the Price

Written By Baltic22, Fairchester, CT on Monday, March 29, 2010
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got the Companion 2 but they were too 'tinny' and 'vibey' at the upper ranges of the
volume so I got Companion 3 instead. These are incredible speakers, the sound is
clear at all volume ranges and the bass is superbe. I have taken them to maximum
speaker settings on my PC and maximum volume and there is no distortion at all. And
they are as loud as you could want. I really can't believe the quality and depth of sound
they have packaged into these speakers. They are well worth the price. The only
caveats, as others have noted, are a) you have to be careful with the nine-pin control pod
cable connector, make sure you have it positioned correctly and don't force it in and b)
the main on/off switch is on the back and at the bottom of the Acoustimass module so
be sure to leave enough space so that you can readily reach in and down and turn it off.

money well spent

Written By Kirby, Ft Campbell ,KY on Sunday, May 31, 2009

I purchased the system about 3 mounths ago and let me say wow. the sound is awsome. I listen to all kinds of music and the system performs very well. the reason i gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the volume control knob that plug into the back of the acoustmass module. the prongs inside the plug are very sensetive and easy to bend so you have to be careful when pluging and un pluging ihe knob. other than that if you like good sound in a compact unit i would recomend this unit. i wish bose would make car audio speakers and im not talking about the ones that come from the factory in some cars and trucks.

Very good, but not perfect

Written By Locke, Central Washington on Saturday, April 11, 2009
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Both the sound and the appearance of this unit receive a 5-star rating from me; however, there is one negative point, and that's why I gave the system a 4-star rating.

The only way to turn the system on and off is to reach behind it and feel around until you find a tiny rocker switch. Since I keep the unit under my computer desk, that means I have to get down on my hands and knees in order to power it on or off. Not good.

The only alternative is to leave the power turned on all the time, which is decidedly not "green," in terms of unnecessary power usage. There are enough electrical "vampires" in our homes already, and Bose should deal with that situation by placing the on-off switch on the volume control/mute attachment.

Great choice

Written By Alan, Atlanta, GA on Sunday, January 25, 2009
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This isn't home theater quality sound, but it's very good. Bought these for our kitchen machine, which is where the kids keep their iPod accounts, and so it had become the primary place we listen to music while cooking, hanging out. Now we have very pleasing sound, in very small (almost elegant?) speakers. The sub-woofer actually works, and works well. I was afraid it would be boomy, but the base is pretty tight. Biggest unexpected bonus is the "hockey-puck" sound and mute control. Very slick, very easy to use, and it's nice to be able to just touch the center of it for instant mute when the phone rings, rather than fiddling with a volume knob or trying to quickly mute via the PC application.

I have these speakers for a few weeks and I love every moment I use it. The Sound is so Clear even when I use on low quality Videos on Youtube. When I turn up the Volume its so loud and still has great crystal clear sound. Great bass sound as well. Its expensive for a 2.1 computer speakers but worth every the cent. Another Great product from Bose.

Top Notch Product You Get What You Pay For

Written By Matt, Dungeon (Computer Room) on Thursday, September 11, 2008

Excellent Build Quality as expected from Bose. I have owned many different configurations and brands of computer speakers and consider these audiofile quality for your computer system. Pricey, but worth the price in my opinion. Do not be dis-appointed and spend half as much on a set half as good.

The Bose speakers sound better that I could have thought could come out of speakers so small. I would get them again. The bass is great. I will now look for a surround sound for my tv. They cost more than most but they are worth it. All I can say is buy them and you'll know what real sound is.

It's getting boring with the guys from Framingham, MA. When are they going to stop surprising me and make something I can't give a 5star rating? Easy to set-up, incredible sound and right price. My ears and soul live and die by BOSE, and this product is another reason why. Truly remarkable.

Another great Bose product!

Written By metamindwerx, Atlanta, Georgia on Friday, February 02, 2007

I must say that Bose products continue to impress me. While I'm not an audiophile, I do know that they sound great and the quality is top notch. I was expecting a better sounding computer speaker than my replacement JBL desktop speakers... but what I got was room-filling sound! The bass is crisp, clean, and the highs/lows are well defined.

I have the Bose Lifestyle 38 system and the Wave II radio next to my bed-- these speakers are a great (and relatively inexpensive) addition to your home audio collection. These are worth every penny!

Works Great!

Written By John, Dallas, TX on Tuesday, January 30, 2007

I bought the Bose Companion III speakers after hearing them in a local store. They sound great! The small profile of the desktop speakers is a great space-saver on a crowded desktop, and the sub packs plenty of punch, with room to spare. The volume control is very smooth and easy to operate, and stays put on a glass desktop. The touch-on/touch-off mute is a really neat feature, perfect for quickly muting the sound when the telephone rings or during conference calls. It is easy, however, to accidentally mute the system when adjusting the volume, but this is a minor annoyance. One thing I wish Bose would add is an extra audio input on the main unit (sub). Having to use the mini-jack on the volume control is awkward for permanent hook-ups (but is great for quickly plugging in an iPod, for example). All in all, a great buy; a bit pricey, perhaps, but certainly lives up to the Bose reputation.

Amazing!!

Written By Seth, Kansas on Monday, December 11, 2006

My dad had picked these up and i was like, wow, its bose. but after hearing them, the tiny speakers are great at filling a room with music and not distorting. and the sub was perfect. not to loud to drown out the speakers, but not to soft to make it seem like all it was was high notes.
