Features Acoustic Noise Canceling Headphone Technology: Through a combination of proprietary electro-acoustic and ergonomic technologies, the QuietComfort 3 headphones provide full-spectrum noise reduction, dramatically reducing unwanted noise while remaining lightweight and easy to wear, even during long airplane flights. The QuietComfort 3 incorporates smaller-sized, on-ear headphone design. In addition, revolutionary TriPort headset technology reduces the size, weight and clamping force of the earcups. When combined with advanced electronic circuitry, this proprietary technology results in superb noise reduction performance over the full spectrum of human hearing. Active Equalization: The QuietComfort 3's active equalization electronically tunes the frequency response to provide superb audio performance. Detachable Cord: If you plan to use the QuietComfort 3 headphones for noise reduction only, you can simply put the headset on and switch on the noise reduction circuitry. There is no need to connect the audio cord. When you're ready to listen to audio, just plug the cord into the left earcup and into your audio source. The headphones use a single earcup audio cable, which gives you far fewer problems with tangling than two-cable designs. A dual-plug adapter is included for use with most airline audio systems. Headband: The headband is padded for comfort, especially for long-time use. You can gain up to 3 inches in headband length, allowing comfortable settings for a wide variety of head sizes. Battery: The QuietComfort 3 headphones are powered by a single rechargeable lithium-ion battery, which provides approximately 20 hours of reliable run time. A small wall-socket charger is included. Carry Case: You can store the headphones and accessories in the supplied carry case. The earcups rotate so they can be stored flat in the crushproof case. The length of the supplied strap can be adjusted for ease of use. Inside the case, there's a 2" x 4" ID card or business card holder with a see-through window. The business card holder has Velcro on its back and can be removed from the case. Courtesy Cards: The manufacturer has provided 10 courtesy cards to pass along to persons inquiring about the QuietComfort 3 headphones. The cards contain information about the headphones, including how to purchase a pair. I was under a false impression (as I'm sure many of you are) that the QC2 would provide a more thorough noise suppression both with and without music, due to the over-the-ear design but this was proven completely false. They had me put on the QC2 first and created white noise at a fixed level just outside the headset. Then they had me put on the QC3 on-the-ear set and ran the same exact white noise and the QC3 was demonstrably better, without a doubt. They also had me listen to music on both and ran the same white noise outside the set and the result was the same. Plus, the QC3s were more comfortable. Combine these features with the 20hr. rechargable battery and the choice to spend another $50 was a no-brainer. Yes | No 5 out of 5 Best Sound for the Money! Written By Doc, Palm Coast, FL on Monday, December 17, 2007 So, you're looking for noise canceling headphones that sound great and are super cheap? Then go read another review. Since when can we have the very best technology available, and pay nothing for it? I have spent almost a year researching and listening to tens of noise canceling headphones with great sound. I finally decided the Bose 3's were the best buy for the quality I expected. And yes, you do pay more for QUALITY. These headphones are extremely light weight, produce incredible sound throughout the full spectrum we sub par humans can hear; and eliminate about 90% of ambient noise when listening to your favorite music at a reasonable level, about 50% of the maximum volume. For those of you who think these are expensive, and want complete elimination of all ambient sound; go buy a par of aircraft designed headphones for pilots. You'll pay about triple the price of these if that is what you want. And believe me, they are big and cumbersome. Not the type of headphones you would pack in your suitcase. I got exactly what I paid for with the Bose 3's: Great sound, great comfort, and near perfect poise reduction. These are by far the best head phones I've ever owned. Bose is a name that stands for "quality"; and they will not let you down. For those of you who complain about the cost; you should have done what I did. Bose ran a holiday special; so I received a free MP3 player (nothing fancy, but plays great), and $50 off on an additional purchase at the same time. No problem for me there. I merely picked up an extra lithium battery for the headphones. If my calculations are correct, I received an extra lithium battery for free. That gives me forty hours of playing time with the two batteries; more than I'll ever need on a trip. Speaking of which, I would be mistaken if I didn't mention the battery and charger. For one, they don't come any smaller or lighter. You merely attach the battery to the charger, and plug it into any electrical outlet. In two hours or less you'll have 20 hours of listening time. By the way, Bose states you get a 70% charge in about 20 minutes or so. The battery and charger are so lightweight, and designed in such a way that you don't even know you're carrying them. They fit perfectly in the lightweight Bose case; along with your other accessories. Yes, you even have room for your iPod or MP3 player right in the case. Bottom line: These are the best noise canceling headphones for the money! If you don't believe me, take advantage of Boses' 30 day money back guarantee. You have nothing to lose but a great listening experience with almost no ambient sound. And if you would prefer those large heavy, cumbersome headphones pilot's use; you can always return the Bose. My bet is once you hear them, everyone in your home will be fighting over them. Good luck! 31 out of 38 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Yes | No 5 out of 5 Tri-ports are better!? Really? Written By Kevin, St. Paul, MN on Friday, November 24, 2006 I've had my QC-3's for about a month now, and I have no complaints. They're by far the best Bose headphones I've owned (I have the tri-ports, the tri-port in-ear's, and the QC-2's)Noise Reduction: Bar far the best noise-cancelling headphones out there (i've tried the Sony, Shure, Panasonic, Sennheiser, Sharper Image, and Brookstone versions)Audio: The bass is very rich and full without being overpowering, the mid's are supported, and the high's are very crisp and clean... much better than the triports due mostly to the built-in audio amplifier.Comfort: very light weight (4.5oz) combined with memory foam cushions means a very comfortable fit.Features: rechargeable battery (20 hrs./charge), replaceable ear cushions and replaceable audio cord, along with wireless noise cancelling only add to the value of a great sounding product.Definitely recommend! 36 out of 36 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Yes | No
5 out of 5 Tri-ports are better!?
