Bose 791 Virtually Invisible in ceiling speakers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very nice appearance for in ceiling speakers. Clean flush mount design, very easy to install. The installation process is an absolute breeze. I think Bose spent a significant amount of time evolving the simplicity of the mounting system used. However I don't consider them to be anywhere near invisible. I have them installed in a great room with cathedral ceilings. The room is 24'x21' and they are easily noticecable in the 14' high ceiling. I am satisfied with the sound from them alone but have not finished the complete surround system at this point.

Pros: Nice clean design, and easy installation. Ordering from Crutchfield saves the sales tax. If you order from Bose direct they charge sales tax on all orders.

Cons: I always assumed Bose products were made in U.S.A.. Sorry everyone it seems as though there is absolutely nothing made here anymore. If I had known this I would have shopped for U.S.A. made speakers.

Very clean room filling sound. I bought ten speakers for my new dolby atmos home theater system. Installation was a snap .

Pros: Excellent sound

Cons: Expensive

Not that good

Bose 791s sounded amazing at the store. I bought 1 pair as my flagship speakers for my living room. My new build KB home has whole house audio. Polk M60's in other rooms and Bose 251's outback. Once installed they had a high distortion and no bass. Went outside and the Bose 251 sounded awesome, went upstairs and the Polks were 1000% better. I pulled the speakers out and tested the wire, which tested fine. I grabbed my tv Bose cube speakers and hooked them up to the wires and they sounded great. Returned these overpriced speakers.

Pros: Return policy

Cons: The only Bose product that I ever had to return. 7 other Bose products.

awesome invisible speakers

even you bose haters out there should give these a try...especially for surround components. you simply cannot beat them for the price, period. pair them with a klipsh sub and get the perfect novis system. and the install was simple and secure. i am very impress and would buy these speakers from crutchfield again in a heartbeat!

Pros: easy install, huge sound field--especailly for ceiling mounted speakers, best sound for the price

Cons: need a good sub for ground rattling bass--but i would recommend that anyway

makes a great surround speaker

Beyond Expectations

Written by: RJ from Orting, WA on February 9, 2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The installation was a snap. With the wires already run in my ceiling the install took 30 minutes. I was a little nervous about how they would sound since they replace a set of tower speakers. I was concerned they would not fill the room with rich sound. I selected the Bose speakers over other brands of like size, specs and price because my previous Bose speakers have had great sound. When I cranked up the volume the sound was up to and beyond my expectations for a nice set of Bose speakers. To be sure they do not have wall rattling bass, but it is more than adequate. They sound rich and full. I would recommend them and would buy then again. I give them 5 stars.

Virtually Invisible 791 speakers are engineered to reproduce lifelike sound with more spaciousness, detail and depth than conventional in-ceiling speakers. Its flush-mount design blends seamlessly into the ceiling.

Features

Stereo Everywhere Speaker Performance: Stereo Everywhere speaker performance produces balanced stereo sound over a wide area, unlike conventional home audio speakers that radiate sound mostly in a single direction. Bose Stereo Everywhere speaker performance delivers sound evenly throughout the listening area for balanced stereo sound wherever you listen, not just in one "sweet spot.

Drivers: The combination of two 1" dome tweeters and a 7" high-excursion woofer provides spacious stereo sound for your favorite music. You will also enjoy the deep low notes of dramatic movie sound effects. This makes 791 speakers ideal for a rear-channel option in a home theater setup. The tweeters are strategically positioned to eliminate the need to aim the speakers into the room.

  • 7" Woofer: A 7" high-excursion woofer delivers deeper low notes for more dramatic movie sound effects and musical richness.
  • Two Angled Tweeters: Two strategically positioned tweeters (array configuration) in each speaker eliminate the need to "aim" the speakers into the room. This lets you arrange your room with greater freedom.

Spring-Post Terminals: The Bose Virtually Invisible 791 in-ceiling speaker use spring-post terminals to connect your speaker wire (18-12AWG).

Mounting

In-Ceiling Installation: The Bose Virtually Invisible 791 in-ceiling speakers offer simplified installation with only four clamp screws that secure each 791 speaker to your drywall. The 791-series speakers also feature an infinite baffle design that uses the ceiling as the speaker enclosure. The infinite baffle design eliminates the need for a separate speaker enclosure, so it uses the space above the ceiling instead. Once you have positioned the speakers, just tighten the clamp screws and twist the grilles into place. The finished looked is unobtrusive, and almost invisible. You can even paint the speaker grilles to match your décor.

Note: Virtually Invisible 791 speakers are designed for in-ceiling installation only. They will not fit inside walls of standard 4" depth. Virtually Invisible 791 speakers can only be installed in wood frame construction covered with wallboard made of gypsum, plaster and lath, paneling or similar construction.

Paintable Frames and Grilles: Paintable grilles make it easy to match your décor. The grille frames install flush to your ceiling for a finished look and can be painted to match your decor. Paint masks are included to protect the speaker cones.

No [ MITESH  Sep 07, 2015 ]
I installed them in my home. They are set in 5/8" drywall and installation was a cinch. [ CRAIG M  Mar 12, 2015 ]
I have installed two sets in my house and had no issues and they sound great [ Richard  Mar 11, 2015 ]
I installed these speakers in my kitchen at home . Easy install, but the sound is not what I expected. I was underwhelmed with the sound of them. I have a Denon 2312CI reciever. I called Bose about speaker placement and putting a box or insulation on top of them to help. They where helpful and polite but I am not impressed with the sound. [ DOUGLAS M  Mar 11, 2015 ]
We have not. [ PAUL  Mar 11, 2015 ]
I have 4 pairs in my house!! I love the sound quality! i paired them with Sonos. I ran all the wires. Once I cut the holes using the trace from bose it was easy. Hardest part was just getting another hand to make sure the speakers looked great in the ceiling when I was aligning them. [ ALAN  Mar 11, 2015 ]
Bose does not publish frequency response numbers for these speakers. [ Jeff  Sep 11, 2014 ]  Staff
Tim, These speakers for me do not vibrate. Mine are installed in a drywall ceiling. I am extremely please with these speakers. Bill [ WILLIAM D  Jun 19, 2014 ]
I installed them in a 5/8" drywall ceiling using the included clamps. I have played them at fairly high volume and no vibration. Hope this helps [ CRAIG M  Jun 18, 2014 ]
We have not encountered a problem mounting the speakers in ACT. We do not install in a box, however Bose does not recommend this model be installed in an acoustical ceiling tile. [ PAUL  Jun 17, 2014 ]
Yes they will vibrate a dropped ceiling. It vibrates a little in my sheet rock ceiling and I used the metal brackets cutouts which attach to the ceiling joists in a new construction home. [ MITESH  Jun 16, 2014 ]
Sorry my ceiling speakers are on sheetrock [ WILLIAM B  Jun 16, 2014 ]
I put mine in boxes to get better sound. They can vibrate if you turn the volume up high when listening to music. I installed mine in a custom built entertainment center built out of drywall and they would vibrate the walls. [ MARVIN  Jun 16, 2014 ]
Sorry, I have these speakers in several rooms, but they are all in sheetrock ceilings, not ceiling tiles. [ LEONARD  Jun 16, 2014 ]
