No need to spend a ton of money to get a killer car stereo — Clarion's CZ100 CD receiver delivers excellent sound at a very sweet price. And this sharp-looking stereo will really stand out in your dash, too.

It's all about the sound, baby
Music lovers will appreciate the beautiful sound cranked out by the CZ100. Its built-in amplifier punches out plenty of power for late-night cruising, and you can tweak your tone to perfection with a 3-band parametric equalizer that gives you pinpoint control over the highs, mids, and lows. Two sets of preamp outputs let you add amps and subs, and a built-in low-pass filter lets you isolate the frequencies your sub was built to handle.

You can play your store-bought CDs, plus discs you've loaded with MP3 and WMA files. And you can also connect a Dock & Play satellite radio, an MP3 player, or any other portable audio player to the handy front auxiliary input.

Hands-free calling
Add Clarion's Bluetooth® adapter and you'll enjoy safer hands-free calling with a compatible phone. When a call comes in, the receiver mutes the music, so you can conduct a conversation without taking your hands off the wheel.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?
In most vehicles, you can use this adapter to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this Clarion stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the Clarion, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls.

Product Highlights:

    General features:
    • CD receiver with built-in amplifier (18 watts RMS CEA-2006/45 peak x 4 channels)
    • plays CDs, CD-Rs, and CD-RWs (including discs loaded with MP3 and WMA files)

    Audio features:

    • outputs: 4-channel preamp outputs (2-volt front, rear/sub)

    Why replace your factory radio?

Two good reasons - sound quality and cool features. A new car stereo offers power that's superior to most factory radios, along with more sophisticated tone controls. And most car stereos offer built-in or optional features that add safety and fun to life in your car, including inputs for your iPod or MP3 player, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free cell phone calls, satellite radio or HD Radio reception, and connections for building an audio system in your car.

For the money this is a very nice radio. The sound is crisp and clean. It was a
replacement radio in my 01 Ford Ranger and in my opinion was a upgrade.
Recommend for people on a tight budget- Will not regret.

A lot of bang for the buck...

Good CD 2nd rate FM reception

Written By dg, Dearborn, MI on Saturday, February 05, 2011

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've owned several Clarion car radios over the years. Unfortunately the first one was the best, and the CZ100 the worst. Apparently, the low price means short-cuts were taken in the design. The unit is very nice and clean looking. The CD player worked well and the sound was good. The set-up menu is not intuitive(for example setting the clock). If you buy this radio, don't lose the instructions! The buttons on the left side of the unit are actually part of the faceplate and bends when one presses on it. These feel flimsy. The biggest problem is FM radio reception. The signal fades in and out while driving in town. It acts like a lack of FM multipath rejection. I had this problem even though Dearborn does not have any high rise buildings. The problem would be worse in a large city with skyscrapers. I think the CZ100 would probably work better in rural areas. Thanks to Crutchfield, returning the unit was no problem at all. I replaced it with an ALpine CDE-100.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this stereo for my Dad's RX-7. It has really good sound and I love that it has an auxiliary input jack. Good looking and sounding stereo but with the lack of sound tuning options I could not give it 5 stars. But for the price it is a great buy!

    Great so far!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For the price, i think this system is totally worth it. I've been using mine for about a month
without any problems. It seems to have plenty of options for adjusting audio settings
such as treble and bass. The advance/go back arrow buttons are pretty hard to push, but
the whole thing looks nice. Somehow i switch the wires for fade and balance so the
'fade' adjustment affects the R-L balance, and the 'balance' adjustment changes the
rear-to front fade. I'm not sure if this is my wiring error or a reversal within the receiver.
Either way, it's more funny than annoying.

The mastersheet and harness provided by Crutchfield were super easy to use, although
i would recommend having a friend to help you, or at least to hold your flashlight.

    replacement for OEM cassette player

Written By JohnD, Battle Creek, MI on Wednesday, February 02, 2011

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Works pretty well as a replacement for an OEM radio. Drawbacks for me are the
somewhat muted and inconsistent audio and the lack of any easy way to display
the time. I suppose the waterfall display serves some purpose, but I'd rather
see something like the time, the station or track information on the CD. Still,
a good value for the price.

This unit is a top notch product, offering great sound! For the money, it is
unbeatable. With all the extra stuff that Crutchfield packed with it
(faceplate, and wiring harness), installation was a breeze, taking about 20, 25
minutes. This is the second unit I have gotten and installed myself, and both
have turned out to be easy and the results look professionally done. Thanks
    again for a great product!

This product is priced very competitively, and provides a good quality sound for a
modest cost. I installed the unit in my daughter's car which is an older model import.
She has been raving about it ever since - the sound is of good quality, has many
features she liked & easy to use. Would recommend to others who are not looking to
spend a lot of money, but want a decent stereo/tuner/cd player for their auto.

Hard to get much better quality without them giving it to you. I was
particularly pleased that crutchfield sent me a detailed instruction and
harness, along w/ the install kit. I haven't put in a radio in 8 years. I have
never put but 3 in in my life , and the others were in the early 90's. I was
done in almost an hour.I am sold on crutchfiled henceforth, and oh about the
Clarion, looks good, cool colors, remote is a little light for my taste, and the
graphics need improved, but sound quality is all I could ask for. Recommend!

We just needed a replacement for one of our service trucks
without investing a lot of money since the trucks get trashed beating
    down the logging roads.
This was money well spent. All things considered, this unit has a lot of value packed into it.
Great FM sensitivity along with front plug for mp3.....What more can you ask for with that
    amount of cash?
Clarion Rocks and so does Crutchfield!

    Nice Unit for the Money...

Written By Matt, Michigan on Monday, January 17, 2011

I am very pleased with the sound quality of this unit and the installation was
    easy as well.
However, I have issues that center around the manual and operation. There are
    many functions in
the menu as I work with the audio setup that are not covered in the manual. I
cannot find out what they are, or how they work. There is a menu key on the
faceplaye that apparently has no function either. I also find it complicated
and cumbersome to make changes. However, for the money
    it's hard to complain.

    Subaru owners' note

Written By Paula, North Carolina on Sunday, January 02, 2011

I like this unit pretty well, but a note for Subaru owners - it's not really a perfect fit. (I have
a 2003 Legacy Wagon) The unit itself is the right size if you remove the DNS sleeve, but
the trim doesn't fit over it properly. The climate control and the little storage box that takes
up the remaining room in the panel have a groove around the sides that the trim fits into
and this unit does not have that groove. I had to modify my trim to make it fit - fiddly and
time consuming work. It came out okay, but if you aren't willing to cut up your trim
(means I can't put the factory unit back later if I want to sell the car) then order something
else. Also, the highs are a little muddy on this unit even after tweaking.

    Not worth the money

Written By MitchP, massachusetts on Friday, December 10, 2010

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I give it a 1. Not recommended. 1. Default display is not the clock as on normal radio's.
Rather it is radio or CD info. If clock is selected, and you change volume, change
station, etc. you lose the clock. You then have to depress the ADJ button to get the clock
back only to lose it again when you change something. 2. At night you can see all of the
light modules in the display background. 3. You cannot rapidly scan through the
stations when setting up the station buttons. Manual tuning changes frequency by 0.1
steps. Auto tuning only skips to the next strong station even when DX is selected. You
have to use manual tuning to find all the stations you want. Very time consuming.

(Dodge owners read this.) Sounds Great, Looks Great,

Written By Mike A, Delaware, Ohio on Sunday, December 05, 2010

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Dodge owners be alert! Be sure to hook up the Amp turn on lead from the Clarion and not
the power antenna lead. If you do do this thinking it won't matter, this will cause the tuner
to play but, as soon as you switch to disc or auxiliary there will be no sound because the
amps will turn off. The standard Dodge sound system does have external amps. Also the
dimmer wire on the Dodge harness will dim the screen at night along with the dash lights.
Cruchfield install kits do not mention this. I'm sure the Tech guys would know though.
I bought this unit for my Dodge Intrepid. It sounds great even with the factory speakers. I
can't wait to wake it up with after market speakers this spring. This unit was primarily
installed for the MP3 playback and I will run my Sirius through the auxiliary input. This car
has plenty of room inside for the Sirius unit to hang out on the dashboard. It's my
winter/bad weather car so that's good enough for talk radio on my Sirius. The controls are
pretty good and the EQ both preset and custom sound great but, I'll know more about that
with better speakers later. I just bought the Clarion CX400 for my Mustang too. Hopefully,
the controllability is better on the DD sized unit. Overall a good sounding inexpensive unit
that looks real good and is easy to use. Very nice unit for the price.

This receiver fit my daughter's 2005 Honda Civic perfectly. Just like
Crutchfield recommended for this vehicle. The installation kit and instructions
made the whole removal & replacement process quick and easy. There was some
soldering to do for cabling harness adapter but it wasn't too bad. I used a
soldering iron, flux paste (helps the solder flow nicely onto the wires), and
heat shrink (buy at homedepot) to cover/insulate the solder joints. Real easy. I
highly recommend buying from Crutchfield for their instructions and perfect fit
    installation kits.

I bought this stereo for my 2000 Excursion for two reasons. One is the price point.
The other was for the auxiliary input. It came with all the neccessary items to install for

looking for an inexpensive but good stereo I recommend this Clarion.

Perfect radio for a low price upgrade from a factory stereo. My daughter just picked up a
2005 Ford Focus and wanted the ability to play her ipod. The instructions from
Crutchfield, the wire harness, and install kit were all great. After wiring it up, it took only
10 minutes to install in her car.

Forget the FM modulators, which are prone to interference, for a few bucks more you will
get the perfect connection with the AUX input on this radio.

I've been buying from Crutchfield for many years and have yet to be disappointed. I ordered this receiver in the morning and it arrived the next day - what a shock! I absolutely cannot believe the price. It's hard to believe it included the mounting kit, harness adaptor, a remote control AND free shipping! This radio may be Crutchfield's Budget Friendly choice, but you wouldn't know it by its features and sound. I replaced an aftermarket Sony radio in my daughters Accord and this Clarion sounds much better than that or the original Honda radio.

Don't get me wrong - this radio is not perfect, but for the price it absolutely cannot be beat. I bought a more expensive Kenwood for my truck and wished I had bought this one. When I was looking at Crutchfield's site I selected the default budget choice that came up on the computer. Crutchfield has done an excellent job of recommending a receiver. I hope all their recommendations are as good.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this basic head unit to put into my '89 Ford Ranger. I'm not ever going to run amps or any other high-end stuff in this truck, so basic is all I need... and this Clarion looks and sounds great. Only issues are that you cannot have the clock as a constant display, and the tone/eq adjustments are overly-complicated and certainly NOT intuitive. In fact, they're downright annoying. Just pick the best setting that suits you and leave it there. The sound is very satisfying w/ Boston s65rs's and a Sound Ordanance flat sub.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I only have a few small problems with it.

    - I can't figure out how to keep the clock display. It keeps switching to CD information. My car doesn't have a clock anywhere else, so I do rely on the one on the stereo. Having to push a tiny button to get the clock display to return is inconvenient.

    - The buttons are difficult to push with long nails. Of course, that's my own fault for not thinking of that before I bought this model.

    - The button to pause the CD is tiny and in the middle of a row of identical buttons. Its navigation icon is also tiny so it's hard to tell while driving which button to push. Since I don't have my phone integrated, I do need to pause my audiobook if the phone rings.

Other than that, it's everything I wanted and for a lot less than I expected to spend. Despite my comments above, I'm a satisfied customer.

Awesome stereo for the price. It's got all the essentials: Sub outs (with stereo control), front Aux input, customizable EQ, low pass filter, you name it. It's an amazing stereo to start with but when you through in that it's only this much, that really sells it for me.

The controls/menus can be a bit awkward at times, but it hardly hampers it's performance. I put it in a 97 Civic and it has my highest recommendation.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought two CZ100s to replace factory-installed tape players in 1990 and 1997 autos. All media now on MP3, so main selling point was the AUX input. Also wanted AM/FM radio. Didn't need (or want) the CD player, but for this price, one can't be too choosy. Installation was a snap; am extremely happy with the unit.

    Works like you'd expect

Just installed in my 04 Ford Focus. Super easy install. I got it so I could run my iPod through the stereo. Had a radio transmitter for the ipod but it died and was horrible sounding. Good sound and surprising improvement to the Bass.

Note if you have a Ford Focus make sure you get the right wiring harness. (most focuses don't have the blaupunkt system).

I drive a 1996 Honda Accord LX, that the OEM radio would randomly play. The car has over 200,000 miles on it so I was looking for an affordable radio to listen to. After 2 years of not having a radio to listen to, this unit is great. Should have bought it years ago

    Great receiver

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I drive a 2006 Ford E350 everyday as a work truck (it doubles as my tool shop and office), and being that I spend so much time IN it sitting in NYC traffic, I decided that I needed a better sound system than the garbage OEM AM/FM tape player that was in the van, while spending as little money as possible.
I have to say that for the price, this is probably the best deal you can get, not to menition the free installation gear (a tremendous plus!!!)
While I was at it, I installed a 4-channel external amp powering a 6" sub and a couple of ported 6" woofer boxes, so now I have 7 speakers in the van...pretty sweet. The receiver very simple to navigate ( a big plus when driving...especially in NYC) and has a powerful internal amp that will power most speakers. Fantastic bass response and terrific highs.
The only thing that 's bugging me about the receiver is that I can't seem to adjust the AUX input volume. I do what the manual says, but it's not happening. Otherwise, the controls are really easy to figure out without using the manual for the most part.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am very satisfied with the sound improvement of the Clarion over the oem radio/tape player in my 88 toyota supra even with the factory speakers in place. I was also impressed by the very easy to follow pictures and instruction papers to remove the original unit and install the new one. A few questions that I as a novice had for the service technician were answered easily. I saved the installation fee and for under $100, total, I have very good fm reception and a decent cd player . I tell my friends about Crutchfield and their service whenever the subject comes up. Ron

The CZ100 is a great deck for the money. I installed it in my 08 F150 along with polk
6.5's and Rockfords 6x8's and my truck sounds a million times better than stock. It has
great tunning options to get it to sound just right for you. The installation was a breeze
thanks to crutchfields awesome guides. Even if you go with another deck... just get it
from crutchfield and you will be glad you did. I haven't tried the support yet but I have
    heard awesome things.

I purchased two of these receivers. I installed one in a '95 E300 Mercedes and one a '97 Honda Civic.

After installing the units in both vehicles, I was impressed with both the ease of use (no obnoxious multi-function keys) as well as its appearance (simple user friendly layout).
I would recommend the Clarion CZ100 to anyone that wants a reasonably priced and easy to use head unit.

I had previously tried and been let down with the CZ200 iPod/iPhone "compatible" model which never worked particularly well with my iPhone 3G over USB. Still, the sound (when it had worked) was good and after my FM transmitter broke I decided to try the AUX-in model. The only bummer? No music control via the radio / remote. That aside, the radio looks great, sounds much better than factory and no more lousy FM-transmitter experience when listening to my iPhone! For the money the CZ100 is a fantastic deal.

A Very Good Sounding Receiver for the Money

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just purchased this receiver to replace the factory radio in my wife's Mercury
Villager/aka Nissan Quest. For the price, I was amazed as to how solid the build quality
of this receiver is! All of the buttons are very tight, and Clarion did not skimp on the
appearance or features of the unit. This receiver has a very crisp sounding FM tuner and
plenty of onboard power for most speakers. My only minor complaint is the owners
manual, which could have done a better job explaining how to adjust the tone controls,
as well as accessing some of the other features on this receiver.

As always, the Mastersheets provided by Crutchfield were "spot on" with how to make
removing the old receiver and installing the new one a piece of cake. Keep up the great
    work Crutchfield!!!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this to replace a 12 year-old factory stereo in my '98 Cirrus, which developed issues with its power/volume control knob. Given the age of my car, I was looking for economy, but with the added features of an aux input jack and CD player. This fits the bill nicely. Nice looking. The set-up is not intuitive, and took several glances through the manual, and I would reference the Clarion website for acronyms/abbreviations not clearly explained in the manual, such as ISR, M-B Ex, etc. The star-like control-center buttons don't have a solid feel, and I am afraid if one of my kids pushes them too forcefully, they could break - but that's just me. All-in-all, well worth the $$$. And easily installed.

The cz 100 is a nice receiver. It looks sweet and has plenty of power. The buttons are alittle stiff at first and takes a while for cds to load but overall its a good buy. Definately worth the money

    Display Features

Detachable Face Security: This unit features Detachable Face Security. A face-fixing clip is supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired.

Note: No face case is included with this unit. An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can be purchased for this unit

H.M.I. Design: Clarion's superior H.M.I. (Human-Machine Interface) Design utilizes a distinctive "starburst" control button array. The headunit's buttons are clustered symbolically for intuitive operation, with a large rotary volume control that is blue illuminated for easy recognition and a cool look in your vehicle.

Digital LCD Display: The single-line, 10-digit, digital LCD display (with black background and white characters) on the CZ100 allows numbers and characters to be displayed clearly in almost any lighting condition.

Illumination Dimmer: The receiver's display automatically dims to a preset brightness when the vehicle's headlights are turned on. The wiring harness includes an orange/white lead that should be connected to the vehicle's parking light circuit in order for the dimmer feature to operate.

Screen Saver: This unit is provided with a Screen Saver function which allows you to show various kinds of patterns and characters in the operation status indication area of the display in a random order. You can turn this function on or off. If the button operation is performed with the screen saver function "On", the operation display corresponding to the button operation is shown for about 30 seconds and then the display returns to the screen saver display.

    Audio Section

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the CZ100 are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the CZ100 are as follows:

    • CEA2006 Specs: 18 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Maximum Power Output: 45 watts x 4 channels (180 watts total)

BeatEQ: In addition to providing 3 preset equalization patterns (Bass Boost, Impact, and Excite), Clarion's BeatEQ lets you freely customize the level and range of the bass, midrange and treble portions of each pattern. You can tune the sound to your liking, depending on the category of music, for a more fulfilling listening experience.

    • Bass Boost: Bass is emphasized +/-3.
    • Impact: Bass and treble are emphasized +/-3.
    • Excite: Bass, midrange, and treble are emphasized +/-3.
    • Custom: Adjusts the bass, midrange, and treble independently +/-7.
      • Bass: You can set the effected bass frequency to 60Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, or 200Hz and the Q-factor to 1, 1.25, 1.5 or 2.0.
      • Midrange: You can set the effected midrange frequency to 500Hz, 1.0kHz, 1.5kHz, or 2.5 kHz and the Q-factor to 0.5, 0.75. 1.0, or 1.25.
      • Treble: The effected treble frequency can be set to 10kHz, 12.5kHz, 15kHz, or 17.5kHz.
    • Off (Flat): Bass, midrange, and treble are set to 0.

Magna Bass EX (Extend): The Magna Bass Extend feature does not adjust the low frequencies like the normal sound adjustment function, but emphasizes the deep bass frequencies to provide you with a dynamic sound. This circuit boosts bass at an ultra-low frequency of about 50Hz, creating a rich, deep, defined bass rather than the muddy, booming bass of a standard loudness control. What is more, boost levels are dependent on the system volume, resulting in balanced system response and dynamic bass reproduction.

4ch/2V RCA Output: The Clarion CZ100 features 4ch/2V RCA line level outputs (Front/Rear). The unit's rear preamp outputs can be configured as a dedicated non-fading RCA subwoofer output with a low-pass filter and level control (+/-6).

Low-Pass Subwoofer Filter: Switching on the Low-Pass Filter (LPF) for the subwoofer preamp output (when selected) will send only the low frequency range through specified outputs to ensure superb performance with a connected subwoofer. The low-pass filter can be set to 80Hz, 120Hz, 160Hz, or Through (full-range).

Beep: The in-dash headunit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

    Radio Functions

AM/FM Tuner: The Clarion CZ100 is equipped with a built-in AM/FM tuner offering 18 FM station presets and 6 AM station presets. Stations can be stored manually or automatically.

Instant Station Recall (ISR): You can store one radio station in Instant Station Recall (ISR) memory and recall it from any mode (except Power Off). Once the ISR station has been recalled, you cannot tune to another station without first disengaging the ISR function. You can, however, switch to another source.

Local Seeking: When Local seeking is turned "On", only those radio stations with strong radio signal can be received.

    Disc Playback

MP3/WMA Playback: The unit can play MP3 (8-320 kbps/VBR) and WMA (8-320 kbps) files recorded onto CD-R and CD-RW discs using ISO9660 Level 1 or 2, Joliet, or Romeo formats. The player can recognize up to 8 hierarchical levels, 999 files per folder, and 65535 total files. This unit is compatible with, and will display MP3 and WMA ID3 tags up to 64 characters.

Disc-In-Play-Function: This feature allows you to turn the power to the unit "on" and start playing the disc automatically when the disc is inserted even if the unit is not powered up, as long as the ignition key is turned to the "on" or "acc" position.

Top Function: The Top Function resets the CD player to the first track of a CD-Audio disc or first track of a folder for an CD-R/RW disc.

Scan Play: This function allows you to locate and play the first 10 seconds of all the tracks recorded on a CD or the first 10 seconds of the first track of all the folders on an MP3/WMA disc.

Last Position Memory: If you turn off the unit while a disc is playing, it will resume playback at the stopping point when it is turned on again.

Auto Reload: When a CD is ejected and left sticking out of the CD slot for 15 seconds, the unit automatically reloads the CD to protect if from damage.

Mounting: For proper CD playback you must install the unit within 30-degrees of horizontal.

    Aux Connection

Auxiliary Input: The CZ100 feature a front panel 3.5mm auxiliary input so you connect your external portable audio player or portable satellite radio receiver to this headunit. You can set the Auxiliary input sensitivity level to Low or High to match the volume output of your connected external audio device.

    Wireless Communication
