Overview

Our take on the Clarion CZ302

You can't avoid it, sometimes an important call comes in while you're on the road. Clarion's CZ302 CD receiver puts Parrot's class-leading Bluetooth® in your dash, so you can field those calls and hear your caller over your speakers. Pairing your phone with this Clarion receiver's incredibly easy, and a driver's-side built-in microphone ensures the person on the other end will hear you loud and clear. And you can also stream music from your phone or another compatible device.

Talk hands-free and stream music

You can't avoid it, sometimes an important call comes in while you're on the road. Clarion's CZ302 CD receiver puts Parrot's class-leading Bluetooth® in your dash, so you can field those calls and hear your caller over your speakers. Pairing your phone with this Clarion receiver's incredibly easy, and a driver's-side built-in microphone ensures the person on the other end will hear you loud and clear. And you can also stream music from your phone or another compatible device.

Pandora® Internet radio for iPhone® lovers

Take your Pandora stations along with the CZ302 — with your iPhone connected, you can run the free Pandora app on your phone and control it from the dash. You can skip tracks, change stations, and rate songs just like you do online.

Connect your iPod® or iPhone

Your music library's extensive, but you're in the mood for that one perfect song. Connect your iPod or iPhone to the convenient front-panel USB input, and you can dive into that massive collection. Clarion's ABC Search lets you quickly zero in on a tune, or you can search more generally by artist, playlist, genre, and more. You can also switch control from the receiver to the player itself, so you can put a passenger in charge of the music.

Built around great sound

Clarion's built-in amplifier gives you the clean power you need to overcome road noise, while the versatile Magna Bass EX bass boost will add depth to your sound without getting muddy. The 3-band parametric equalizer gives you pinpoint control over the highs, mids, and lows — that's a big jump over the simple bass and treble controls found on most factory radios. A built-in low-pass filter lets you control the character of your bass, while a high-pass filter trims the extreme low bass out of your front and rear speakers so they play more efficiently.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?
In most vehicles, you can use an adapter (not included) to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this Clarion stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the CZ302, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. Check the "Accessories" tab for compatible adapters.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

Note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great unit and sounds good the Bluetooth mic built in the faceplate is great one less wire to run and have had no complaints on how I sound the only issue with this radio is navigating through the menu is tougher than any other stereo I have ever had but once set up and comfortable with basic functions I can't complain any further

Pros: Built in Bluetooth mic and great sound

Cons: Difficult to navigate the menues

Does what its supposed to do

Just wanted a basic CD player and to connect to my Android via Bluetooth as my music collection stored there. Bluetooth connects quickly and after a few set-up adjustments, is what I'm looking for. Replaced the factory speakers and all is what I expect from a very basic, good sounding, system to upgrade the factory system. Only wish there was a 'play/pause' button on the head unit.

    Pros: Bluetooth quick.

Cons: Setting bass/mid/high a bit more complicated than it should be.

Cons: Modes and features took a little getting use to. Not really a con, happens with every new model radio

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Basic car stereo with sound quality which is not as rich as the factory double din clarion unit that came with my Subaru. Crutchfield says this unit fits in my Subaru, which it did, but it was not a match for the stock unit. I bought Clarion because the stock unit was a Clarion and I was expecting to be able to plug right into the car's existing wiring, which was not the case. Plastic mounting bracket is flimsy and has to be liked by thieves. Would have preferred to use the steel bracket off the stock unit, but that would require a double din unit. I learned not to go by Crutchfield's advice on what "fits" and next time I will look further.

    Pros: Good basic unit.

Cons: Not a good choice for replacing a quality stock unit as the sound is not as rich.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This Clarion CZ302 is an awesome little radio. I found it simple to set up. The bluetooth connection is great. It automatically connects, and the sound quality and mic pickup is excellent. I also like how easy it easy to adjust the audio settings. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of more expensive units. You can't display both frequency and time at once, can't change the color of the display, and the scroll does not work on some streaming music sites. But for the price, it can't be beat.

Pros: Great sound, easy blue tooth connect, great sound and mic with bluetooth phone, easy to set up

Cons: You can't change color display. It won't display both clock and frequency. Scroll doesn't function with some music sites (ei: tune in radio.)

I don't normally review products, but I'm so pleased with Crutchfield's service I wanted to pass this along. Bought this for my daughter's car. I'm sure there are better one's out there, but this unit looks and sounds good. More importantly, while making the install, it was great to be able to talk with someone knowledgeable about my particular vehicle. There was also a problem with the remote that came with the unit. All it took was an email, and another remote was delivered. And this one worked. I will definitely buy from Crutchfield again.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The manual for the install was OK, Helped to have the Crutchfield cheat sheet. The main issues are, when installed in the sloping Honda Civic (2003) dash enclosure its glossy finish creates a bunch of glare that makes reading the display hard. Add to that the dimness of the display lighting and the way it gets dimmer still when you have on headlights (which I do during the day) it takes longer to read than it should. Offering a different, hooded bezel might help but deglossing the whole thing would be best IMHO. Still a good radio.

    Pros: Price

Cons: Too glossy for the dash environment. Not enough control on the display. Would be good to have the clock just take over the display after a while.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Sound quality is excellent with factory speakers. Bluetooth implementation could be better. Call quality is terrible with optional microphone in my 2004 Nissan Xterra turbo diesel. I expected decent noise reduction / DSP since the unit was labelled "parrot bluetooth". Do any aftermarket units compare with factory units for call quality? USB operation is temperamental, often gets read errors. Using galaxy S4 calls come in over USB mode but GPS notifications do not. Not sure if this is a configuration on the phone?

    Pros: great audio quality

Cons: poor call quality with external mic, didn't notice any noise reduction or DSP circuitry to improve call quality terrible fit with mounting kit provided by Crutchfield - faceplate doesn't remove

I like the stereo. It was easy to install. Crutchfield supplied me with everything I needed to do the install. The radio sounds great. There is a learning curve to it though. You need to read the instructions pretty thoroughly to get the hang of it. Some of the features can seem a little hidden. Other than that I am happy with the purchase and would definitely recommend this head unit.

Greetings, I used to own a Kenwood CD Receiver, but felt overwhelmed and frustrated because it had TOO many features. For example, on the remote control, I would be driving and wanted to switch stations it would THINK I wanted to store that artist when in fact, I didn't.. Long story short, it would BEEP whenever I had an artist stored accidently. Plus, the color choices schemes, and the central knob was more of a mouse or a joystick, and....well, I think you get the picture. It flat out sucked having too many options when all you really want is simplicity. Sort of like ordering a cheeseburger, you don't care how many kinds of cheeses in the world there are you only want a slice of cheese on your burger. The Clarion CZ-302 unit is superb. My wife got into my F150 with me after I hooked it up and her reaction was, Whoa! Clarion....really, I am impressed" I love the volume control knob. It his sturdy and even has a rubber ring around it for gripping. Which, is just a nice added touch of quality. Second, I like programming features on it as well as using the remote. Very simple, no nonsense, B.S. about it. It is as if Clarion constantly asked itself the question, "What is the quickest means to reach point B from point A" and Clarion took that path, unlike some of the other manufacturers such as Kenwood. On the other hand, this unit also packs a punch is sound quality. It has better bass than my former radio, and programming sound quality is a breeze.

Pros: Efficiency in design and operation

Cons: I wish I had become a Clarion fan years ago. No cons associate with this unit.

This is a very good product. I just bought it for my fiance so she could have a blue tooth connection that would allow her to stop holding her phone or using the abysmal speaker phone. I bought this specific unit for the ipod connection, the clock, and the pre-outs for upgrades later if she wants. I couldn't be happier with this purchase.

Pros: blue tooth works great! Ipod connector also charges! "It's so Pretty!"

Cons: "screen saver" which is just retail mode, took me longer than I want to admit to figure out how to turn off. There are no other cons to this unit. If I wanted more features, I could have purchased the next up model.

Good set but usability not thought out

JohnV from Orange County, CA on 10/16/2014

    2003 Honda Civic
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I picked this set because I wanted the least plastic-looking stereo I could find at this price range. Other stereos also tend to have lots of strangely shaped buttons, so I appreciated the minimalist look of this one. And indeed it looks quite nice, and has a good feel. I especially like the rubber ring around the volume knob. In general, the technology in this stereo is quite good. Bluetooth works perfectly, sound quality is good, the microphone quality is just okay, but that's fairly standard in cars; I'm not aware of any sets that have solved this. There's one problem, however, that's a real nuisance and clearly indicates a poorly thought out user experience. What's the most commonly used button on a car stereo? Pause/Play. When you want to pause it's usually with some level of urgency. So it stands to reason that the button that would do this for you is the big round thing in the middle of the unit, no? In fact it isn't. The way to pause/play is via the microscopic button #4, somewhere at the bottom of the unit. I actually had to look this up in the user manual because I missed the tiny label. But even if you know this a priori, try pressing that tiny button while driving, even at low speed. I'll save you the suspense; it's incredibly difficult! It seems like a small thing, but again, given that pausing is usually done with some urgency, its really annoying every time!

Pros: Looks quite nice, with a minimalist design Bluetooth works almost flawlessly Good sound quality Standard installation

Cons: Frustrating usage with the pause/play button Microphone quality is just okay

I gave the radio 5 stars because of all the quality's that the radio come with. The sound is great and it looks great in my dash, but i did only have one problem with it. After about a week I developed a short and the radio fried. It might have been due to the way the radio was wired up, or it could have been a defect. At any rate i am trying another one. I think i will have better success with the second one. The sound is awesome, the price was great, it ease of use i gave 4 stars, it is cool, and i gave it 4 stars on build quality for the fact that it blew on me once. So far the new one works better than the first one did.

This head unit seems to be a fairly good quality for the price. I bought it primarily to add hands free capability to my vehicle, and it connected to my iPhone 4 very easily. Installation was a breeze with the built in mic. Not as user friendly as it could be, as there is no dedicated phone button and the controls and setup are a little confusing

    Pros: Easy installation, good quality

    Cons: Confusing phone controls

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Love the design of this unit, looks great, sounds good, general functions are a breeze, and bluetooth is nice and clear. Had a couple of issues upon first install, not sure if it was operator error, miss-labled wires on unit, or bad instructions on the adapter harness where the remote and power antenna wires had to be switched, and then customized to keep the aftermarket amp and stock amp on at the same time. reception was crystal clear on the toner and there is some great functions to fine tune this unit to your liking.

Pros: 1. Basic functions are easy and well placed on the radio. 2. sound quality is great and multi-adjustible to your liking. 3. Has a nice look to it.

Cons: 1. Setup functions are a little hard to get through 2. Dimmer leaves accent light still pretty bright for night driving 3. Doesn't allow for separate sound setting for each function (Radio, CD, AUX, Bluetooth, ect.) 4. preset EQ sound profiles are a waste.

Had some initial installation issues because the instructions didn't mention removing the 'DIN sleeve.' Upon calling Crutchfield service and talking with 'Lefty' he told me to remove the sleeve and then the unit went in just fine. Between this better quality stereo and the 7 speakers in my car, I am hearing my music like I never have. One thing I found out was that a flash drive used in the USB port is best set up without subfolders in it. Although the music in them will play, once the randomization algorithm gets into a subfolder, it will rarely come out. I just restructured the drive and now it randomizes as it should.

Pros: Sounds great. Easy to install, once the DIN sleeve was removed. Easy to operate; I like having a pause for the USB and CD. The volume knob is easy to find and manipulate.

Cons: The display is a little dim during the daytime. See comment about randomization of flash drive.

Excellent Stereo - Only One Flaw

Dave R from Albuquerque, NM on 7/23/2014

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I really like this stereo. I bought it to replace a stereo that didn't have Pandora or hands-free calling. I had purchased a Sony stereo from Crutchfield and installed it in my truck that has integrated Pandora for iPhone as well as hands-free calling. That stereo (the Sony) came with a microphone that I could mount on my dash. This one has the hands-free feature BUT DOES NOT COME WITH A MICROPHONE FOR HANDS-FREE CALLING. Sorry to shout, there, but I hope anyone reading this realizes it and buys the microphone at the same time as the stereo. I wish I hand known. I ended up installing it, ordering the mic, opening the dash back up and installing the mic. That was a bit of a pain in the butt. That's the only reason it gets 4 instead of 5 stars. The remote works well. I especially like the feature that lets you give thumbs up or down in Pandora using the remote (the Sony stereo I have doesn't do that). It also has sufficient RCA outputs to go with a decent pre-amp/crossover and amp. That's the next step with this. It's a good enough head unit that I will amplify it and add more speakers. For the price, you can't go wrong with this unit.

Pros: integrated Pandora and hands-free calling, thumbs up or down in Pandora with remote control, cool blue lighting, easy install, good sound, 4 pre-amp outputs (one pair can be switched to subwoofer with internal crossover)

Cons: hands-free mic is NOT INCLUDED and it doesn't really state this clearly and prominently

First of all, Kudo's to Crutchfield for being around all these years. Amazing, I was buying radio's from them in the 80's and now buying them for my kids' cars today. Very easy to use website. Upon entering the vehicle type('98 Honda civic), a perfect list of options were offered. Great pricing and exact installation kits made my install a great success. Amazingly, in the Crutchfield install notes, it stated, "in order for the dome light to work a green wire in the factory harness needs to be spliced together after removing the factory radio". There is very good chance I would not have known to do this if I had purchased a radio somewhere else!

Pros: Easy to use for a 16yr girl using her iphone5(plugs right in). Amazed with the options available at this price level(Bluetooth, iphone controls, etc.)

Cons: Stumbled trying to turn off the "screensaver" or demo mode.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Nice Radio however....A Word of caution. There is are lot of cables hanging out the back of radio. 4channel pre amp outputs (4 cables) and Serius Satellite (one good size connector and cable.) If you don't need these features, possibly look at another radio. I installed this in a 2000 VW Beetle and the room for a radio is very limited. It was like trying to fit a size 16 woman into a size 10 dress. Not an easy venture. (Sorry ladies for the analogy.) So after multiple scratches on my hands and arms and a few muttered not -so- nice words, the radio was installed. Do check out how much extra room you have behind the radio. Another thing ....The buttons are somewhat small. A pencil sharpener applied to your fingers may help if you have chubby fingers. Otherwise you may be hitting two buttons at once.

I love this unit especially after having to return a Boss unit that sounded like crap. This Clarion us built nicely, sounds very good, and looks pretty cool. The Bluetooth connection links super quickly. The only thing I found that could use some improvement is the speed that it recognizes and starts playing a CD track. Overall a great buy.

Chose the unit 80% on price and 20% on name, been a Kenwood guy forever. With that being said I'm not dissapointed in my decision in the least! Fit and finish on the Clarion seems to be spot on, buttons and volume knob have a solid feel, not what I was expecting in this price range. As far as features it has everything I want and more, almost too many for an old guy like me lol, but the more I use it ( have only had it about a week) the more I appreciate every one of them, sync with my iphone was a snap. I paired the unit with some 6.5 Rockford Fosgate 165x3 speakers for the front doors of a 98 silverado ext cab and they work great with this radio, have a pair of 6x9 RF punches on the way along with the Clarion xc 1410 amp as we speak and can't wait to get rid of the stock 4x6's in the back, should really wake the ol' chevy up and let this head unit scream.(will take some doing to fit the 6x9's but hey, its an old truck and it'll be worth it!) Long story short its a great radio and packed with a lot more features than I expected for this price, not to mention the good folks at Crutchfield threw in everything needed for a super easy install, you guys are awesome!!! Would recomend this unit and Crutchfield to anyone looking for a good product and a top notch company to deal with.

Pros: Looks great Ton of features for not a ton of money Lots of options for really fine tuning the bass, mids and highs Easy set up and straight forward to operate once there

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I reviewed a number of different radios before making my final decision. I am familiar with the Clarion name, and this did have a factor in my choice. I bought this primarily for the Bluetooth function. Just love the "hands free" speaker phone, with auto answer, and voice dial features. Very few radios I looked at had the "built in" microphone. I had no desire to have to run wiring and mount an external mic somewhere on my dash. Doubt I will ever use the Pandora or XM features, but is nice to know I do have those options. Sound quality is great, with more than enough power to drive my speakers. Can't turn up the volume much past half way without rattling my windows. The included dash adapter and wiring harness fit like a glove, and made installation a snap. NO cutting and/or splicing wires needed. IF I ever want to reinstall my stock radio, everything is still OEM intact.

Pros: Great radio for the price. Way more functions and options that I'll ever use.

Cons: Too many options. Will take a dummy like me to learn all the functions available some time.

I researched quite a bit before buying the Clarion CZ302 for my 2007 Honda Accord LX. These were my requirements: CD(MP3), USB, Bluetooth All requirements were met, and the sound from the stock car speakers is SO much better, using this receiver. Crutchfield also supplied (free of charge) the "HOND ACCORD 03- MS", the mounting kit for the vehicle. I took the receiver and the mounting kit to a professional installer and got it installed. (I know, I'm not a DIY-er!) For a receiver this size, all buttons are small, as expected, but they are fairly intuitive. I haven't yet opened up the user manual but I configured the FM favourites, used the CD, played songs from the USB stick with folders and files system, configured and used the Bluetooth to play songs and make calls. I am absolutely delighted with the product and the service from Crutchfield!

Pros: - Small - USB - Bluetooth - Awesome sound from the stock speakers

Cons: - Small - The ambient blue light cannot be dimmed (I think, not yet looked at the manual) - Non of the cons should be any where close to a deal-breaker!

This is a great receiver at a really good price. I had initially installed a Kenwood Excelon that just would not work with the steering wheel controls of my Chrysler Pacifica. The problem is not that the Kenwood was bad it's just the way that Kenwood allows you to seek and scan just didn't let my controls work as they previously had. I called Crutchfield, they were great and swapped the Kenwood out for the Clarion. The Clarion is very straight forward. It reminds me of my old Alpine. Not flashy, not distracting, just works really well. The controls are simple and if you read the instructions, you won't have any problems with the set-up. The built-in Bluetooth microphone works great and doesn't need the added external mic. Calls are crisp and clear, music apps work great. I'll continue to look at Clarion in the future. One last thing, the Clarion display can be seen in direct sunlight and dims automatically when the headlights go on which is nice as well.

Pros: - Great Bluetooth connectivity and Streaming - Great Radio Reception - Non Pandora Apps like Spotify work great - Phone calls are crisp and clear

This is a fantastic unit and an especially great value. This system has it all: hands-free Bluetooth calling, Bluetooth audio, USB audio and iPhone/iPod control, Pandora direct control, etc., etc. The hands-free phone solution works extremely well and I'm told by people I talk to that it sounds as good or better than when I wear a headset. Audio quality is great, especially when using an iPhone/iPod via USB. (The connection also charges your iPhone/iPod, another plus.) Volume can go exceptionally loud. My biggest complaint is with the controls, which are far from intuitive. Although basic functions are easy enough (skipping tracks, using radio presets, etc.), setup and more advanced functions are more difficult to locate and use. The buttons are also all fairly small. Installation was quick and easy, taking about an hour, give or take. (And I'm not an experienced installer.)

Pros: Feature set is fantastic. iPhone/iPod support is excellent. Sound quality is great.

Cons: Some controls are not intuitive. Buttons are small.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this radio for my 2002 Jeep Wrangler which had a stock radio in it that was increasingly getting worse static on certain stations. I was living in he dark ages as far as a radio goes so take that into consideration when reading this but I am really pleased with this radio. It has all of the features I was looking for Bluetooth, Pandora, USB, Auxillary Input, Siriux XM, removable face, and etc. Everything works great. I connect my iPhone 4.0 using Bluetooth and play music this way. I don't use it for the hands free although that is an option is well. I just find people can never hear me on the hands free anyway so I don't like using it. I would highly recommend this radio. I was a little hisitant to purchase it as I have typically gone with more name brand radios in the past like Sony, Kenwood, Pioneer, etc. but Clarion makes a really nice product that is very comparable and less expensive.

Pros: Bluetooth that connects to iPhone 4.0, Pandora, Removable Face, Siruis XM, Auxillary Input, USB on the front of the radio, remote control to play iPhone music when connected with bluetooth, and mutiple preset options for FM, SiriusXM, and etc. Very easy to use and a nice display.

Cons: The only con is that some of the features like setting the clock require you to use the same button that is used for other features and it can be confusing to navigate to the right place to change the options you need to. This is typically of most radios though given their size.

Pretty good receiver overall. I switched over to this one after a similarly priced bluetooth Alpine model wouldn't work well with my phone. My main goal was to get a working bluetooth receiver. Seems to be hit or miss with pairing phones to receivers. The Alpine had a better matte finish and easier controls, but wouldn't stay connected with my phone. It worked with my wife's phone, but still always had a buzzing sound through bluetooth. This one has a glossy finish that makes it look kind of cheap. The controls are harder to use and the buttons are smaller, but manageable. Could be a problem for someone with bigger hands or bad eye sight. Sound quality is on par with the Alpine, but the Alpine was much easier to adjust. Alpine also has an adjustable source volume control, which this one lacks. The Clarion has a built in mic, so you don't need to run a wired mic, but if your radio isn't located near the top of your dash you will have to run a mic anyways. It paired easily with my phone. Sometimes it doesn't reconnect after turning off the car, but I can reconnect it easily through my phone. With the Alpine I had to turn off the radio and reset it. The biggest advantage with this is the satellite radio option. It was the only one in this price range with Bluetooth and Satellite radio. If I could have this receiver with the Alpine face plate, it would be a perfect 5 stars.

Pros: Bluetooth works (probably depends on phone - I have Droid X2 and Razr Maxx) Satellite radio Sound quality Built in mic

    Cons: Controls Gloss finish

Overall a good unit but the bluetooth is terrible. I had issues with it from day 1, not being able to download my phonebook from my iphone, disconnecting my iphone randomly and not showing the id3 tag info. I updated the software from the Clarion Website which was meant to fix bluetooth issues but the only thing it fixed was the phonebook issues. Iphone would still disconnect randomly and it still wouldn't show id3 tag info. Randomly one day while listening to streaming over bluetooth it began to show the id3 tag info for a few songs but then the info for the last song I played was frozen into the unit and that was the only song and album it would show despite switching to other songs/artists. Everything else seemed to work fine and using the unit itself was simple but based on the poor bluetooth I would not recommend. I ended up returning the Clarion and getting the Sony MEX-BT4000P which I have had no problems with, works great and has more features for the same price.

Pros: Ease of Use Good Price Front USB

Cons: Bluetooth Connectivity is not reliable. Output wires in the back are not detachable, which adds unneccesary wires in the back that you may not use. Unit lighting is not selectable.

Pros: Front panel USB, remote control

Cons: Setup menus are clumsy and less than user friendly.

Excellent Product, cheap price, many features & easy to use!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a Sony CDx-GT930UI in my 2010 F-250 which has AWESOME sound quality. I consider it to be pretty "top of the line" in the quality aspect. I will be comparing my new Clarion CZ302 to it. I picked the Clarion CZ350 because it had bluetooth, iPod/iPhone support, Pandora controls and a 3 band advanced equalizer with high/low pass settings. I am VERY happy with the head unit all in all and I WOULD buy it again! For the price you cannot beat it! Sure if you spend more money you will get a little nicer unit, but to get the Sony I wanted it was about DOUBLE the price of the CZ302. To me its not worth the extra money unless its a DVD screen. Excellent product with only a few MINOR flaws which do not anger me or make me unhappy with the purchase. I had NO reviews to go by but I am VERY pleased I gambled! AWESOME Equalizer - LOTS of advanced settings IF you want to use them. It has the 3 band bass/mid/high settings PLUS the settings that allow you to set the Hz you boost and the curve! It also has presets if you don't want to customize. The equalizer makes a HUGE difference -without it I would not be as happy. If you have a subwoofer set your high pass to 120Hz and your low pass to 120Hz. This allows your speakers to play midbass and high notes while the subwoofer plays anything below 120Hz.... makes a HUGE difference in quality of factory door speaker sound! Subwoofer controls (selectable rear/subwoofer RCA line outputs and a set of fronts

Pros: Pros: * Very good sound - but not as good as the Sony I have. * iPod/iPhone is fairly easy to use and doesn't take long to learn - again Sony had a little better interface but its really not bad. * AWESOME Equalizer - LOTS of advanced settings IF you want to use them. It has the 3 band bass/mid/high settings PLUS the settings that allow you to set the Hz you boost and the curve! It also has presets if you don't want to customize. The equalizer makes a HUGE difference

Cons: POOR Remote design/function - you have to do alot from the head unit 2 Sets of preamp outs No Jump feature (skips many tracks at once when browsing)

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth Technology (powered by Parrot): The Clarion CZ302 is equipped with built-in Bluetooth ver. 2.0+EDR (powered by Parrot), allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit.

Bluetooth Profiles: In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP (Hands Free Profile), PBAB (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).

Pairing: Before using your Bluetooth enabled device, it must be paired to the CZ302. You can register up to five Bluetooth enabled cell-phones with the Clarion in-dash head unit (only one paired phone can be used at a time). The Clarion CZ302 is compatible with most Bluetooth enabled mobile phones, including the Apple iPhone.

Note: The Clarion CZ302 is not compatible with all Bluetooth enabled phones or audio players. Visit Clarion Bluetooth Support for complete list of compatible phones and players.

Hands-Free Communication: The CZ302 supports Bluetooth hands-free communication from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. The CZ302 can be set to automatically answer your incoming calls and mute any music audio to your vehicle's speakers so you can instantly carry on a phone conversation hands-free. An integrated front-panel microphone carries on your side of the conversation while your car's speakers are used to hear the other person. You can make a call by entering the phone number, selecting a contact from your Phonebook list, or using the Call History Log of received/dialed/missed calls.

    • Answering A Call: During an incoming call, the caller's phone number will be seen on the unit's LCD and a ring-tone will be heard through your car stereo speakers. You can then manually answer the incoming call from the head unit's front-panel controls. You can also set the unit to automatically answer an incoming call within 5 seconds.
    • Making A Call: You can make a call using the Clarion in-dash head unit's front-panel controls.
      • Direct Dial: Outgoing calls can be made be entering telephone numbers (0-9, *, #, +) directly via the car stereo's rotary control knob.
      • Phonebook: You can search for contact names in your mobile phone's phonebook from the Clarion CZ302 and then make your call. The head unit can store up to 500 contact numbers.
      • Call Log: You can also make a call by searching your mobile phone's call history (Received/Dialed/Missed) from the Clarion CZ302.
      • Redial: You can simply redial the last number dialed with a press of a single button on the in-dash head unit.

Integrated Microphone: The Clarion CZ302 features an integrated front-panel microphone to carry on your side of a conversation during a Bluetooth phone call. You can adjust the microphone gain (+/-5) for each paired mobile phone device.

External Microphone (optional): The Clarion RCB-204 (sold separately) is an external microphone which can be connected to Clarion CZ302. The external microphone provides better performance in noisy environments than the integrated microphone found on the front-panel of the head unit. The microphone features an attached 13.25' cord terminated by a right-angle male 3.5mm connector which plugs into the microphone input on the rear-chassis of your compatible Clarion head unit. The microphone also features an integrated sun-visor clip for mounting the external microphone in your vehicle. The integrated bracket allows the microphone to swivel left-to-right and rotate up-or-down.

Wireless Audio Streaming: The Clarion CZ302 also supports wireless audio playback (AD2P) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth enabled audio player or smartphone. The CZ302 will be able to control your stored music's basic playback functions; such as Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track, and Fast-Forward/Reverse. The CZ302 also supports audio streaming of music apps from your smartphone, but without control or metadata. You will continue to use your Bluetooth enabled smartphone to view & control streaming music apps. When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

Note: The new iPhone with Lightning connector only offers Bluetooth audio streaming without control or metadata display.

    AM/FM Tuner + SiriusXM Ready

AM/FM Tuner: The Clarion CZ302 is equipped with a built-in AM/FM tuner offering manual, seek, & preset tuning.

Instant Station Recall (ISR): You can store one radio station in Instant Station Recall (ISR) memory and recall it from any mode (except Power Off). Once the ISR station has been recalled, you cannot tune to another station without first disengaging the ISR function. You can, however, switch to another source.

Preset Stations: 18 FM station presets and 6 AM station presets can stored. Stations can be stored manually or automatically.

Preset Scan: Preset scan receives the stations stored in the unit's preset memory in order. This function is useful when searching for a desired preset station.

Local Seeking: When Local seeking is turned "On", only those radio stations with strong radio signal can be received.

SiriusXM Ready: The Clarion CZ302 comes ready for SiriusXM programming with access to XM & Sirius Satellite Radio stations. Thanks to its proprietary SiriusXM Connect port, you can add the optional SXV200V1 SiriusXM Connect tuner and receive more than 150 channels of exclusive programming directly from SiriusXM, via the " SiriusXM All Access" package (subscription required). You will continue to use your iPhone's touchscreen to navigate your apps. Not all apps will be compatible with App Mode.

Note: Access to your iPhone's downloaded applications will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone to connect to the Internet.

Pandora App: The Pandora App (free) lets you play music from the Pandora music service through the Clarion CZ302 using your connected Apple iPhone, via the USB/Dock cable supplied with your iPhone. The Clarion CZ302 provides control over the Pandora music service and displays Artist, Album, and Song information. You can select Pandora stations from your station list and sort them by date or alphabetically (A-Z). Or, you can create a new station from the current playing artist or song. You can also skip song tracks within a station. You can even give songs a thumbs up or thumbs down. To access Pandora you must have an Apple iPhone (iOS 5.0 +) with the latest version of the Pandora application from Apple's iTunes App Store. Your iPhone will need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, or WiFi. You will also need a Pandora music service account.

Note: Access to the Pandora service will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone to connect to the Internet. Pandora is not supported in Canada and only available in the United States.

    Audio Section

MOSFET Amplifier: The Clarion CZ302 employs a MOSFET (Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor) power amplifier capable of delivering 45W (Peak) x 4ch of high quality sound with superior linearity & less distortion than conventional power amps, even with the volume cranked up.

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the CZ302 are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the CZ302 are as follows:

    • CEA2006 Specs: 19 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Maximum Power Output: 45 watts x 4 channels (180 watts total)

BeatEQ: BeatEQ lets you tune the sound to your liking, depending on the category of music, for a more fulfilling listening experience. The Clarion CD receiver provides 4 preset EQ curves (Bass Boost, Impact, Excite, Off) and 1 custom EQ curve. Bass Boost emphasizes the bass portion of your music; Impact emphasizes the bass & treble portions of your music; Excite emphasizes bass, midrange & treble portions of your music; while Flat sets the bass, midrange, & treble to 0. The Custom EQ lets you freely customize the frequency, Q-factor, and level of the bass, midrange, & treble. BeatEQ settings are applied to all sources.

BeatEQ (Custom Mode) Frequency Q-Factor Level
    Bass 50Hz, 100Hz, 200Hz 0.7, 1, 1.4, 2.0 -7 to + 7 dB
    Midrange 500Hz, 1kHz, 2kHz
    Treble 5kHz, 10kHz, 15kHz

Magna Bass EX (Extend): The Magna Bass Extend feature does not adjust the low frequencies like the normal sound adjustment function, but emphasizes the deep bass frequencies to provide you with a dynamic sound. This circuit boosts bass at an ultra-low frequency of about 50Hz, creating a rich, deep, defined bass rather than the muddy, booming bass of a standard loudness control. What is more, boost levels are dependent on the system volume, resulting in balanced system response and dynamic bass reproduction.

4ch/2V Preamp Output: The Clarion CZ302 features 4ch/2V RCA line level outputs (Front/Rear). The unit's rear preamp outputs can be configured as a dedicated non-fading RCA subwoofer output with a low-pass filter and level control (+/-6).

Built-in Crossovers: The Clarion CZ302 is equipped with built-in low-pass and high-pass crossovers.

    • Low-Pass Subwoofer Filter: The Low-Pass Filter (LPF) for the subwoofer preamp output will send only the low frequency range through the preamp outputs to ensure superb performance with a connected subwoofer. The low-pass filter can be set to 60Hz, 90Hz, 120Hz, or Through (full-range).
    • High-Pass Filter: The CZ302 features a High-Pass Filter (HPF) for the unit's front & rear channels, via speaker-output or preamp-output. You can adjust the high-pass filter from 60Hz, 90Hz, 120Hz, or Through (full-range). The HPF prevents low bass notes from distorting your front & rear speakers. The high-pass filter setting effects both the front & rear channels of the head unit.

Beep: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

    Display Features

Detachable Face Security: This unit features Detachable Face Security. A hard plastic face-case is included to protect the head unit's face when detached. A face-fixing screw is supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired. An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can also be purchased for this unit

H.M.I. Design: Clarion's superior H.M.I. (Human-Machine Interface) Design features an easy-to-use rotary volume control and easy-to-read illuminated buttons on the face which are laid out in an asymmetrical design to place the most used features within a specific area for ease of use and less user distraction.

High Visibility LCD: The two-line, high visibility LCD (with black background and white characters) on the CZ302 allows numbers and characters to be displayed clearly in almost any lighting condition.

Illumination Dimmer: The receiver's display automatically dims to a preset brightness when the vehicle's headlights are turned on. The wiring harness includes an orange/white lead that should be connected to the vehicle's parking light circuit in order for the dimmer feature to operate.

Screen Saver: This unit is provided with a Screen Saver function which allows you to show various kinds of patterns and characters in the operation status indication area of the display in a random order. You can turn this function on or off. If the button operation is performed with the screen saver function "On", the operation display corresponding to the button operation is shown for about 30 seconds and then the display returns to the screen saver display.

    Remote Control

Wireless Remote: The CZ302 comes supplied with an IR remote control (RCX001) for wireless operation of the CD player. The remote operates off of a single CR3025 Lithium cell 3-volt battery. The remote does not offer Bluetooth hands-free communication control, but does provide playback operation for Bluetooth audio streaming.

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input on the rear of the unit that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately). Please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to see if your vehicle is compatible.

    Barebones with Bluetooth®

Written by Ken Nail, Staff Writer - Creative, on 5/7/2012 11:08:00 AM

I should qualify the term "barebones" — these days even a relatively inexpensive CD receiver has some pretty cool features. Features like built-in iPod® control, Pandora® Internet radio control with your iPhone®, and a 3-band equalizer are built into the CZ302. It also includes Bluetooth, so you've got the added utility of hands-free calling and audio streaming.

Sure, the single-line screen's a little basic, and mastering some of the controls might take couple trips to the manual, but all-in-all, this is a solid choice if you're upgrading on a budget.

    Not perfect, but perfectly fine

Written by Dominic Devito, Staff Writer - Creative, on 3/25/2014 3:36:00 PM

The CZ302 seems like a suitable upgrade for many different drivers, whether you're looking for Bluetooth on the go, have an iPhone with Pandora, carry your music on a thumb drive, enjoy satellite radio, or want a little more control over their audio settings. It has a lot going for it, but it's not quite a total all-star.

The display typically gives you two lines of information, unless you're doing Bluetooth audio, which only offers one line. You can't change the display and button colors, but the blue/white color scheme isn't bad. The panel layout isn't the most intuitive, so you'll have to spend a few minutes getting to know what everything does. The knob feels nice and solid, and the buttons under the display work great. My main gripe with this stereo are the four square buttons to the left of the knob, which don't really work like buttons but more like smooth touch panels. I'd much prefer something separate that feels like I'm pushing something, but maybe that's just me. I also would've preferred an illuminated aux in, but that's not a deal breaker.

The Bluetooth paired with my iPhone 5 quickly, and I had no problems streaming through the stereo and changing tracks. Pandora over a USB connection was a breeze to pull up and operate, but it took me a minute to find the thumbs up/down and skip buttons. I would've expected to use the arrow buttons to change the songs, but instead they change the Pandora stations.

Playing music from my thumb drive was fine, but it did take me a few tries to figure out the stereo's search functionality. For the price, this radio has a lot to offer (including a remote), but the learning curve for the controls might be on the steep side for radios with similar feature sets.

No, you can't. The display may be bright enough, but the curved screen causes sunlight to reflect off the surface. It's just about impossible to read the display. Otherwise, great radio. [ JERRY  Sep 11, 2015 ]

I'm pretty sure that if your changer has a "z" in the model # (i.e. "dcz625") it's compatible with this particular head unit. Best bet would be to check with clarion to verify before purchase [ ANDREW  Aug 26, 2015 ]
There is an internal mic. [ Dieter  Jul 29, 2015 ]
Internal mic. I think you can add an external one, but we find no need for one in my son's highlander. [ Richard  Jul 29, 2015 ]
It comes with an external mic that needs to be plugged in to the port in the back of the stereo. [ ANDREW J  Jul 29, 2015 ]
Robert, This head unit has a built in internal mic. One of the best features of this unit. Travis [ STRAIGHT `N  Jul 29, 2015 ]
There is an internal mic. [ Dan Purdy  Jul 29, 2015 ]
It has an internal mic, and a provision for an external. [ SEAN  Jul 29, 2015 ]
No, it doesn't have a mic. We bought it for our son, thinking it would have a mic for using the phone via bluetooth but it doesn't have one. We got an Alpine for our other son and it does have the mic built-in. [ Michelle  Jul 29, 2015 ]
It has an internal mic! This is a great deck for the money! [ ANTHONY  Jul 29, 2015 ]
In my Silverado, Bluetooth calls work thru my vehicle speakers. Hope this helps. [ JERRY  Jul 29, 2015 ]
Yes. Use the USB port to charge a RAZR Maxx. [ RAYMOND  Jun 01, 2015 ]
Pretty sure it will, but not fast. It's not a 2.1 amp USB like many of chargers for recent android phones. I think it's only .5 amps. So battery intensive apps like maps may still slowly drain the battery still. [ Nicholas  May 31, 2015 ]
    Yes it will. [ CLAYTON  May 31, 2015 ]
    Yes [ BRUCE R  May 31, 2015 ]
The information will show, but scrolling, even though it has two lines. [ Abraham  May 29, 2015 ]
My experience is no. As you can tell from the screenshot, the display does not actually show many characters at a time. Very few artist names or song titles fit even by themselves without scrolling. It's a fantastic receiver, however. I've had mine for more than a year and use the Bluetooth constantly. [ Mark  May 29, 2015 ]
No you have to hit the "display" button to toggle from artist to title etc. The screen isn't wide enough to show both. [ BRYAN  May 29, 2015 ]
I do not believe so. Search on "clarion CZ302 manual" and you can find the manual online. [ Richard  May 19, 2015 ]
    Nope [ Vincent  May 19, 2015 ]
    I don't think so, but I don't really know. Sorry. [ JERRY  May 19, 2015 ]
I cant recall. We sold the care with the radio over a year ago. Sorry. [ FRANK  Apr 24, 2015 ]
Yes. Can display time, artist, and song title as you press the display button for different settings [ JAMES  Apr 24, 2015 ]
YEs itdoes, every once in a while it seems to display the station. But if you hit display button it goes back to normal. I attribute it to me, or one of the kids, in advertently changing the setting. Love the radio. [ JOSEPH  Apr 24, 2015 ]
    Yes It does. [ FRANK  Apr 24, 2015 ]
Yes it does. It usually start by displaying the artist, song & album untill you press the display (Disp) button then your clock will show. [ MARY  Apr 24, 2015 ]

ive got one of the first ipod touch 3rd gen maybe....its lacking updates but works fine on my clarion [ CODY  Aug 27, 2015 ]
IT SHOULD, the Bluetooth works great and there is an av, and USB jack also. I don't use apple products but my Samsung has had no issues [ ANTHONY  Nov 18, 2014 ]
Hey. My son installed the radio with a 150 amp and a 10 in sub and it was about the best I'd ever heard. Seriously. I think the 6 channel has tweets and the four does not. [ ANTHONY  Oct 21, 2014 ]
You don't need more channels. This radio is great. I also have a factory sub (upgraded Ford system) and this stereo does the trick. [ BRYAN  Oct 10, 2014 ]
Hello Hunter, Yes, the radio deck will stay on whatever source it's on when the car is turned off or turned in Acc mode...basically whenever the radio is powered on. Example: If you have your source on iPod mode and turned the car off or turn the key to Acc mode, it will stay on iPod setting when you power the radio. [ MARY  Sep 02, 2014 ]
My clarion stays on Bluetooth or what ever if I turn the car off and turn the car back on. Although it will not resume play.... I must do that manually from the iPhone. I love the sound of my clarion but the tonal controls are not user friendly. [ ANTHONY  Sep 01, 2014 ]
Mine stays on the same settings. I have a portable Sirius radio hooked into the aux, as well as my iPhone set up to the Bluetooth. When I get in the car it stays on the Aux setting, even when the Bluetooth connects. [ HENRY  Sep 01, 2014 ]
Don't remember. Got rid of that car last year. [ Marianne  Sep 01, 2014 ]
Yes it stays in the same mode. When you turn it back on it will be on Bluetooth. [ BRYAN  Sep 01, 2014 ]

The call quality is good. I've had no complaints while making/taking calls. Not too sure on the Sirius/XM since my radio is a portable unit that has it's own display. [ HENRY  May 23, 2014 ]
Hi, I can't answer your question regarding SiriusXm,as my son doesn't have it in his car where the stereo is located. But being on the receiving end of his calls I can say that it does work, but not the greatest. Seems to be a lot of lag time in transmission of his voice. I honestly don't think he uses it very often anymore...anytime he called me we both ended up frustrated. Hope this helps. [ MARY JO  May 23, 2014 ]
Hi Hector, I think the call quality could be a little better. I'm less than totally thrilled with this unit. It's actually in my husband's car, so I regularly hear the call quality. It's a bit mufffled. The display has 2 lines, but you still have to press the display button to see station name, category, artist name, and song title. If you're on the song title screen, one line says the word "Title" and one line says the actual song title. I specifically bought this unit for the 2-line display plus other good specs and reviews. However, when I play my iPod, I like the display better. The bottom line continuously shows the track # and count of minutes & seconds for the track. The top line scrolls artist, album title and song, which is much better. [ LINDA  May 22, 2014 ]
Allen, I have an 1Phone4 and the Clarion works great... Can'tgive you a definite answer as to the Android. [ OLIVER G  Nov 27, 2013 ]
I really do not know, but I see no reason why it wouldn't. [ RICHARD  Nov 26, 2013 ]
Unable to answer I gave the radio as a present and it was taken out of the country. [ JOSE  Nov 26, 2013 ]
It should, works with my Iphone just fine. When you install it, you program your Bluetooth and always keep it on. When you start the car and get in it will automatically connect to your Bluetooth, once you activate Pandora you switch your AUX to Bluetooth on the radio and it will start playing your Pandora. I love it! Hope this helps! [ JEFFERY S  Nov 26, 2013 ]
Yes, the Bluetooth is compatible with GS 3/4. It may just revert to the less efficient Bluetooth 2.0 (Audio quality is still great, I use it with my Galaxy S II). Just know that the USB is read as a USB device and isn't simply an interface so it will take some time to read all of your media files. [ CONNOR  Nov 26, 2013 ]
Sorry I have Apple everything. It works great in my boat with my Apple iPod [ GREGG  Nov 26, 2013 ]
I'm having issues with a subwoofer setup. Four speakers (2 front, 2 back) hooked up through the wiring harness. I then have a 12" p2 punch sub and 1000w kenwood amp in the trunk. I thought the built in low pass would take the bass out of the main speakers, but not the sub (hooked up through the RCA's). Right now I can't get the bass out of the main speakers, so the sub barely hits before the other speakers distort from all the bass. Is this not what the low pass filters does in this deck? I'd hate to rip my dash out again just to install bass blockers. [ St3ve2009  Aug 16, 2014 ]
