Pandora® Internet radio

There are few things better on a road trip than discovering some new music. Clarion lets you tap into the power of Pandora in your car with their CZ702 CD receiver. All it takes is your iPhone® and the free Pandora app — just connect via USB and you can change stations and rate songs from your dash like you do online.

Hands-free calls and audio streaming

Clarion outfits the CZ702 with built-in Bluetooth so you can talk hands-free. When a call comes in, the receiver mutes the music while you talk to your caller over your car's speakers. The CZ702 features a driver's-side built-in microphone that'll pick up your end of the conversation, or you can add an optional mic for convertibles and other vehicles with high interior noise levels. Another big plus — you can also stream music directly into the CZ702 from a compatible phone or music player.

Easy iPod® and iPhone control

Once you connect your iPod or iPhone to the USB input, you'll enjoy outstanding sound quality and even keep your player charged as you drive. You can browse your music collection using the stereo's intuitive controls, or let your passengers control the tunes with included remote while you concentrate on driving. The 2-line display on this sharp-looking stereo keeps you informed of what's playing, and you can choose from 728 possible colors so the Clarion's illumination matches your dash.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?
In most vehicles, you can use an adapter (not included) to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this Clarion stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the Clarion, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. Check the "Accessories" tab for compatible adapters.

iPod note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth Technology (powered by Parrot): The Clarion CZ702 is equipped with built-in Bluetooth ver. 2.0+EDR (powered by Parrot), allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit.

Bluetooth Profiles: In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP (Hands Free Profile), PBAB (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).

Pairing: Before using your Bluetooth enabled device, it must be paired to the CZ702. You can register up to five Bluetooth enabled cell-phones with the Clarion in-dash head unit (only one paired phone can be used at a time). The Clarion CZ702 is compatible with most Bluetooth enabled mobile phones, including the Apple iPhone. The Clarion CZ702 is not compatible with all Bluetooth enabled phones or audio players. Visit Clarion Bluetooth Support for complete list of compatible phones and players.

Hands-Free Communication: The CZ702 supports Bluetooth hands-free communication from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. The CZ702 can be set to automatically answer your incoming calls and mute any music audio to your vehicle's speakers so you can instantly carry on a phone conversation hands-free. An integrated front-panel microphone carries on your side of the conversation while your car's speakers are used to hear the other person. You can make a call by entering the phone number, selecting a contact from your Phonebook list, or using the Call History Log of received/dialed/missed calls.

    • Answering A Call: During an incoming call, the caller's phone number will be seen on the unit's LCD and a ring-tone will be heard through your car stereo speakers. You can then manually answer the incoming call from the head unit's front-panel controls. You can also set the unit to automatically answer an incoming call within 5 seconds.
    • Making A Call: You can make a call using the Clarion in-dash head unit's front-panel controls.
      • Direct Dial: Outgoing calls can be made be entering telephone numbers (0-9, *, #, +) directly via the car stereo's rotary control knob.
      • Phonebook: You can search for contact names in your mobile phone's phonebook from the Clarion CZ702 and then make your call. The head unit can store up to 500 contact numbers.
      • Call Log: You can also make a call by searching your mobile phone's call history (Received/Dialed/Missed) from the Clarion CZ702.
      • Redial: You can simply redial the last number dialed with a press of a single button on the in-dash head unit.

Integrated Microphone: The Clarion CZ702 features an integrated front-panel microphone to carry on your side of a conversation during a Bluetooth phone call. You can adjust the microphone gain (+/-5) for each paired mobile phone device.

External Microphone (optional): The Clarion RCB-204 (sold separately) is an external microphone which can be connected to Clarion CZ702. The external microphone provides better performance in noisy environments than the integrated microphone found on the front-panel of the head unit. The microphone features an attached 13.25' cord terminated by a right-angle male 3.5mm connector which plugs into the microphone input on the rear-chassis of your compatible Clarion head unit. The microphone also features an integrated sun-visor clip for mounting the external microphone in your vehicle. The integrated bracket allows the microphone to swivel left-to-right and rotate up-or-down.

Wireless Audio Streaming: The Clarion CZ702 also supports wireless audio playback (AD2P) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth enabled audio player or smartphone. The CZ702 will be able to control your stored music's basic playback functions; such as Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track, and Fast-Forward/Reverse. The CZ702 also supports audio streaming of music apps from your smartphone, but without control or metadata. You will continue to use your Bluetooth enabled smartphone to view & control streaming music apps. When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

Note: The iPhone 5 only offers Bluetooth audio streaming without control or metadata display.

    Disc Playback

Disc Compatibility: The unit features a single disc player that will playback CD-Audio, CD-Text, & finalized CD-R/CD-RW audio discs.

MP3/WMA Playback: The unit can play MP3 (8-320 kbps/VBR) and WMA (8-320 kbps) files recorded onto CD-R and CD-RW discs using ISO9660 Level 1 or 2, Joliet, Romeo, or Apple ISO formats. The player can recognize up to 8 hierarchical levels and 999 files per folder (or 3,000 total files). This unit is compatible with, and will display MP3 & WMA ID3 tags up to 32 characters.

Disc-In-Play-Function: This feature allows you to turn the power to the unit "on" and start playing the disc automatically when the disc is inserted even if the unit is not powered up, as long as the ignition key is turned to the "on" or "acc" position.

Top Function: The Top Function resets the CD player to the first track of a CD-Audio disc or first track of a folder for an CD-R/RW disc.

Folder Select: This function allows you to select a folder containing MP3/WMA files and start playing from the first track in the folder.

Playback Functions: The CZ702 provides Repeat, Random, & Scan playback functions.

    • Scan Play: This function allows you to locate and play the first 10 seconds of all the tracks recorded on a CD or the first 10 seconds of the first track of all the folders on an MP3/WMA disc.
    • Repeat Play: This function allows you to play the current track on a disc repeatedly or play a file currently being played in a MP3/WMA folder repeatedly.
    • Random Play: This function allows you to play all tracks recorded on a disc or in a folder in a random order.

Last Position Memory: If you turn off the unit while a disc is playing, it will resume playback at the stopping point when it is turned on again.

Auto Reload: When a CD is ejected and left sticking out of the CD slot for 15 seconds, the unit automatically reloads the CD to protect if from damage.

Mounting: For proper CD playback you must install the unit within 30° of horizontal.

    USB/iPod/Aux Connectivity

USB Port: The CZ702 features a rear-panel USB (type-A) port that is attached to the rear chassis via a 41" cable. The rear-panel USB (type-A) port allows you to connect and play USB (1.1/2.0) Mass Storage Class devices loaded with MP3/WMA music files. MP3/WMA files with a bit rate from 8-320 kbps and formatted with FAT are supported. The head unit can recognize up to 999 files per folder and 3,000 total files. Titles up to 64 characters can be displayed while in USB mode. The CZ702 offers the following playback operation of your USB Mass Storage device; Play/Pause, Track selection, Fast-forward/backward, Scan play, Repeat play, and Folder selection. This unit will also charge (0.5A) your connected USB device when the receiver is turned on.

Note: The Clarion USB extension cable (020CCA755, sold separately) can be used to connected your USB flash-memory device. Copy-protected WMA files cannot be played on this unit.

iPod Direct w/ DAC Bypass: The Clarion' CZ702's rear-panel USB port also acts as an iPod/iPhone high-speed direct connection when used with the cable that came with your iPod/iPhone. This type of connection allows audio playback, music navigation, information display, and charging of select iPod/iPhone models from the Clarion in-dash head unit. The USB connection allows your iPod/iPhone's stored music to be loaded instantly to the head unit and sound quality to be maximized through the head unit's 24-bit D/A converter, allowing for a Signal to Noise ratio up to 94dB.

    • Head Unit & Simple Control: The Clarion head unit allows you to navigate your iPod's music by Playlist, Artists, Album, Genre, Composer, Song, or Podcast. You can search these categories alphabetically (A-Z). The head unit also supports Repeat (file/all) playback functions of your connected iPod/iPhone. In Simple Control mode, you can navigate the stored music on your iPod/iPhone from its clickwheel or touchscreen. You can also listen to your favorite music apps from your iPhone (iOS 3.0+) through the Clarion head unit and your vehicle's speakers. You will continue to use your iPhone's touchscreen to navigate your apps. Not all apps will be compatible with App Mode.
    • Information Display: The head unit will display your iPod/iPhone's stored music file information; including Track number, Elapsed playing time, Song title, and Artist/Artist name. The head unit will also display song/artist information from the Pandora App. It will not display metadata from other streamed apps or when in Simple Control mode.
    • iPod Charging: The head unit's USB connection provides 0.5A of current to power and charge your connected iPod/iPhone when your vehicle's ignition switch is set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position. This unit does not charge the iPad. If your iPod/iPhone has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it.

Note: Access to your iPhone's downloaded applications will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone to connect to the Internet.

Pandora App: The Pandora App (free) lets you play music from the Pandora music service through the Clarion CZ702 using your connected Apple iPhone, via the USB/Dock cable supplied with your iPhone. The Clarion CZ702 provides control over the Pandora music service and displays Artist, Album, and Song information. You can select Pandora stations from your station list and sort them by date or alphabetically (A-Z). Or, you can create a new station from the current playing artist or song. You can also skip song tracks within a station. You can even give songs a thumbs up or thumbs down. To access Pandora you must have an Apple iPhone (iOS 5.0 or later) with the latest version of the Pandora application from Apple's iTunes App Store. Your iPhone will need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, or WiFi. You will also need a Pandora music service account.

BeatEQ Plus: In addition to providing 3 preset equalization patterns (Bass Boost, Impact and Excite) Clarion's Beat EQ Plus allows you freedom to customize each pattern by dividing the sound spectrum into 5 bands. You can finely adjust the sound to your liking, depending on the genre of music, for a more fulfilling listening experience. BeatEQ settings are applied to all sources.

    BeatEQ Plus Frequency Q-Factor Level
    Band 1 20-20k or through 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 -12 to + 12 dB
    Band 2
    Band 3
    Band 4
    Band 5

Magna Bass EX (Extend): The Magna Bass Extend feature does not adjust the low frequencies like the normal sound adjustment function, but emphasizes the deep bass frequencies to provide you with a dynamic sound. This circuit boosts bass at an ultra-low frequency of about 50Hz, creating a rich, deep, defined bass rather than the muddy, booming bass of a standard loudness control. What is more, boost levels are dependent on the system volume, resulting in balanced system response and dynamic bass reproduction.

Beep: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

    Display Features

Detachable Face Security: This unit features Detachable Face Security. A hard plastic face-case is included to protect the head unit's face when detached. A face-fixing screw is supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired. An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can also be purchased for this unit

H.M.I. Design: Clarion's superior H.M.I. (Human-Machine Interface) Design features an easy-to-use rotary volume control and easy-to-read illuminated buttons on the face which are laid out in an asymmetrical design to place the most used features within a specific area for ease of use and less user distraction.

728-Variable Color Illumination: The CZ702 is equipped with a high visibility, 728 Variable-Color Illumination LCD that allows numbers and characters to be displayed clearly in all lighting conditions. You can select the exact color you want for the head unit's display and button illumination to match your car's instrument panel or personal preference.

Illumination Dimmer: The receiver's display automatically dims to a preset brightness when the vehicle's headlights are turned on. The wiring harness includes an orange/white lead that should be connected to the vehicle's parking light circuit in order for the dimmer feature to operate.

Screen Saver: This unit is provided with a Screen Saver function which allows you to show various kinds of patterns and characters in the operation status indication area of the display in a random order. You can turn this function on or off. If the button operation is performed with the screen saver function "On", the operation display corresponding to the button operation is shown for about 30 seconds and then the display returns to the screen saver display.

    Remote Control

Wireless Remote: The CZ702 comes supplied with an IR remote control (RCX001) for wireless operation of the CD player. The remote operates off of a single CR3025 Lithium cell 3-volt battery. The remote does not offer Bluetooth hands-free communication control, but does not provide playback operation for Bluetooth audio streaming.

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input on the rear of the unit that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately). Please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to see if your vehicle is compatible.

I want to use this with a 64GB USB flash drive. In the details section it says a USB extension is needed, but is no longer made. Will a flash drive with Fat32/exFat formatting work when plugged directly into the back?

The USB connection is on a cable that I routed under the dash so I could access it from the drivers seat. It worked great with all different sizes of drives both formats, using folders or straight files

The USB cable that's preattached to the unit is long enough to go to the glove box so don't really need an extension unless you were planning on putting the USB access port elsewhere. With that said, I've used a 64GB USB thumb drive (formated as FAT32) with no issues with this unit and works great.

I have two questions: I currently am listening to a very old school Eclipse 55040. The SQ is absolutely astounding, but is very straight forward with absolutely no up to date features. I love listening to music on this Eclipse. Sound quality will always come first with me. Can anybody possibly tell me how the SQ is on this Clarion unit compares to my $1100 (back in 1999) Eclipse? Also, will the display on the CZ702 disappear in bright, direct sunlight? Thanks for any and all info.

I have this clarion cx702 it has awesome sound it's s little confusing to figure out but once you do you'll love it and as far as sunlight yes it gets pretty bright and you can still read the display that also depends on the color you chose for the display but this unit had awesome sound quality

DSW - I think what exterior options you add to it (amp and sub) will jazz up your system. Straight up 1 to 1, the Eclipse will out run the Clarion. However, the Clarion can handle the add-ons and make it sweeter than what you have. I once took mom's 74 Buick LaSabre with its AC Delco 5 push button/knob radio - added a good amp, thru in an 8" sub, and dropped a couple of 6x9s in back ledge, 6x8 in the doors with 2" tweeters in the corners of the dash and I had a sweet ride with white walls!! In today's dollars - your $1,100 Eclipse would be like dropping $2,500 with the Clarion. You would probably blow your windows!!! As for the the "BLUE" display, I've installed units in a Wrangler (removable roof) - Trans AM (t-tops) - Sportrac (solid roof) and recently my kid's Ranger. I've have "Rage Red" - "Crystal White" and "Ice Blue" displays. The red and blue are the best during the day and they all are good at night - HOWEVER - the blue is the easiest on the eyes at night. Plus it has a remote.....Learn the buttons good enough and you don't need to look at it during the day OR night. I don't think you will be disappointed with the blue.

No this is not the case in my car. You must understand that the dynamics of your car is what directs sunlight onto a receiver. Fortunately Clarion has deep set the display(It cast it's own shadow on the receiver"). Why in the picture is there a glare? That's Bad internet picture marketing on this unit. There is your answer. Crutchfield Knows their shit. They are solid.

Yes, its a bit difficult to read in bright sunlight. I have my display color set to red to match the other lights in my console area. There are probably hundreds of different hues you can change it to though...maybe a lighter color (white) would be easier to read in full sun. Its not a big enough issue for me to call it a setback as I mostly control my music from my phone and the buttons are still easy to read.

Hi Scott W, I bought the Clarion CZ702 a few weeks ago, and while I am very pleased with it, it is very hard to see in direct sunlight. Sometimes I'll put my hand over the display to help me see a bit better on a bright sunny day, mainly to change sources and such.

Scott, Unless you are installing it in a convertible (and it would still project fine) - the blue will be good. I've installed a few receivers (jeep with top off - trans am with t-tops - sportrac w/solid roof) with the most recent being my kid's '97 Ranger that he bought from grampa. I've had red - crystal white - and blue as far as displays go.....with red and blue the easiest to see during the day - all of them illuminate good at night.....HOWEVER - the blue is the easiest on the eyes at night. I personally don't think you be disappointed with the blue.

Will this support Android through USB? I want to plug in a Droid Turbo and stream Spotify. Will this HU charge the phone and allow me to skip tracks through the HU/steering wheel controls (with the steering wheel adapter). I know I can do this via bluetooth, but I don't think the audio quality would be as good.

I'm not a 100% on those specifics but I'm was quite surprised by the quality I was getting out of both phone calls and streaming music via Bluetooth over by my IPhone 6 and 4S. As long as the specs say it will support the device I believe you will be pleasantly surprised with the results.

Jeremy, I purchased the Clarion for a 2003 chevy truck. Unfortunately, since it doesnt have steering wheel controls and since I use an iphone I do not have any experience to answer your question well. The bluetooth audio quality with my iphone has been excellent and I have not needed to use the usb port. I would guess that with usb or bluetooth your steering wheel functionality would work and your phone should charge when plugged in to the usb, but don't know for sure. I have been very satisfied with this unit. Hope this helps

Thanks everyone! After hearing your experience using bt and doing a little more research, I'm more confident that it'll sound just as good. I went ahead and ordered this reciever, and can't wait to try it out.

Not through usb. That usb connector seems strickly designed for Apple. But android functionality seems fine through bluetooth. At this day and age. I don't see why you want to stream through hard wire anyways. Bluetooth is just more instant and convenient. You can still use that usb for charging. The usb is only 2.0. You would more likely get that 3.0 sound quality through BT. Hope I answered your question.

Actually, Bluetooth quality is just as good, if not better, than the audio through usb. But yes, this unit can control a device through the usb cable.

I have an iPhone 5c , on my device it supports charging , streaming and control ( I did not need the steering wheel adapter , 1990 Buick Reatta.) . I am happy with sound quality as a stand alone unit using factory speakers , but I haven't installed my amp and other gear yet , but am looking forward to it . Unlike other units I have used via Bluetooth this unit gives on screen data from phone , just a plus , sound quality not terrible when using Bluetooth if I forget my phone cable .

My gut feeling would be yes, but I have not tried to do this exact thing, so don't base this solely on my advice. -I've only used iPhone through it. -USB vs. Bluetooth shouldn't matter for controls. -I believe the device will change songs via USB with the unit skip track button. -I would imagine the steering wheel would trigger the same, but I have not done this myself.

There's no front USB, the USB cable goes from the back of the unit and the cord is long enough to have it hide in the glove box. As long as the thumb drive is formatted as a FAT32 and you put on MP3, WAV or non-DRM WMA files it will play back (I have a 16GB thumb drive with all the MP3s I like on it). Too long, didn't read: yes
    michael  Dec 19, 2014

No. The only input in the front is the headphone jack. It does have a USB cable that runs from the back of the receiver which can be routed to the front for thumb drive use.
    david  Dec 19, 2014

Yes it will play a thumb drive, but the port is on a wire coming out of the back of the unit. I leave mine in the glovebox.
    robert h  Dec 19, 2014

the connection is on the rear of the unit whick makes for a cleaner install. It comes with a usb extension cable that you can route to an area such as the glove box to hide it. The front has a aux input connection (earphone type) on the front which is visible in the picture. If you look at the manual on the crutchfield site, you may find pictures of the ports on the unit.

My 2007 Ford Forcus Zx3 has 2-DIN stereo and thi sproduct will fit 1 DIN slot. What is done with the other slot?
    chris  Mar 23, 2014

I did my own research and I looked at other care stereos - and it seems that a lot of factory stereos occupy 2 DINs and aftermarket stereos occupy one, so my situation is clearly not an isolated one. I noticed there were vehicle-specific installation kits - I'm sure Crutchfield has got one for me.

The ability to retain steering wheel controls with aftermarket receivers will be determined by the receiver you are using and the vehicle you have. Can someone explain Beats EQ Plus to me? Is it like a parametric EQ with six different selectible points?
    david  Jan 11, 2014
    1 answer
    A
Essentially. I am able to adjust up to 5 bands at my choosing. So you're limited to tweaking only 5 of about 8-9 bands that you can choose from. Selections are somewhere around these frequencies: 20hz, 100hz, 200hz, 1khz, 2khz, 5khz, 10khz, 12.5khz and 20khz. (I may be slightly off) If you're Just looking for a head unit upgrade, this is a good model, however if you're looking to get serious you will want to go with a separate equalizer rather than on-board EQ.

Note that your Clarion unit has the "SiriusXM" logo on the head unit's bezel. You need to buy the vehicle tuner specific to that logo (Not Sirius, not XM Radio, but SiriusXM). The Crutchfield website has it if you do a search for "siriusxm sxv200v1 tuner" which is a $50 unit. You will still need to contact SiriusXM and subscribe for their service.
