Our take on the Clarion FB275BT

Sleek, bold, and unique. The Clarion FB275BT Digital Media Receiver's design integrates simple and elegant controls into a totally functional, sleek silver faceplate. Built for the modern age, it does not play CDs, only digital files, and you can customize the look to match your car's dash by choosing from 728 different colors for the illumination and backlighting.

Clarion designed the FB275BT for music lovers who've moved beyond CDs. Instead of a CD player, you'll find a handy slot behind the face that accepts SD cards that you've loaded with your favorite MP3 files, plus a rear auxiliary input for connecting a portable music player or a plug-and-play satellite radio.

You can make and receive hands-free calls with your Bluetooth phone, using the included microphone. You can also stream music wirelessly from a Bluetooth® cell phone with music storage or from a portable player connected to Clarion's DGL370 Bluetooth transmitter.

Note: This receiver will not play CDs. Bluetooth compatibility of this device may vary, depending on your phone and service provider.

Excellent receiver!

Written By Robby, Chicago, IL on Sunday, December 06, 2009

What a great receiver! really do miss it. I bought this unit in January and was amazed by the sound from my factory speakers and the great sound and clarity of bluetooth. This receiver gave you exactly what is promised. The unit not having AM radio and no CD player did not bother me, as I had thoroughly researched the product. I was also aware of the less sensitivity of the FM radio to pick up stations. I have never received so many compliments on any car accessory than this receiver. I had the white one.

The only CON I can think of is the max 2Gig size of the memory . This unit only took a max size of 2G memory card. But, once again I knew that by researching, so I guess it's not really a con.

I was so happy with this Clarion receiver that I went on to purchase a newer model (after disappointingly trying a DUAL brand). I wish I hadn't. There were some reviews that this model was very hard to navigate. I am very tech-savvy and had no problem with the controls. I now own the CZ509 and I really miss the FB275BT. My CZ509 is so ridiculously unintuitive it's unbelievable. But, the sound and functions are excellent, so I am sticking with it.

A Niche Product

Written By Lucas, Fort Drum, NY on Saturday, June 13, 2009

I had installed it in my BMW for 2 days and my wife was really fond of it because she was able to stream music from her cell but rarely drives my car and her nissan has a factory Fosgate system with an AUX port. To settle the arguement I put it in the Expedition and it works great.

Alot of people wont agree with this product's features but if you have no use for AM reception or CDs and have switched to the digital side (iPods, SD card media or mp3 players of the sort), Then this is for you. The bluetooth is fairly useful and the external mic is crisp and clear for the person listening to jabberjaw while cruising the highway with the windows down. The SD function has no "resume" function to pick up where the song left off. It works and the price was very right for what it claimed to do.

Very pleased with the Clarion receiver. The bluetooth work great! It has no AM tunner and the FM tunner it's good. But with satellite radio connected to the aux in who cares?
The receiver looks great, very modern and you need to add the great price

Great Value for the price

Written By Bill, Nashua NH on Saturday, January 31, 2009

Having gotten my 89 Jag XJ6 for Christmas from my wife,, I wanted to put a real radio in it.

The deck itself has a somewhat cheap feel to it. The trim ring is very flimsy and the face release mechanism is rather junky feeling as well. The SD card portion works well and plays nice and clear. The problem being here that it cannot remember where in a song or audio book you where forcing you to restart, major downside. The FM tuner seems a bit week on station reception. The blue tooth works fantastic for phone calls or streaming audio. The aux input works well for use with a Ipod or even your laptop using your Itunes library for music.

As others have pointed out the one set of RCA's is a bit of a set back and I would have liked to seen a usb input on it as well or instead of the SD card. I think the usb input would have rounded this deck out perfectly that and remembering where you were in a track.

All in all a great bang for the buck radio.

If you have a Jag and are looking to install a radio, be forewarned you won't get a wiring harness or even a wiring diagram from crutchfield though. So the product support for install will not be as good as your used to from crutchfield.

Just missed a 5 star rating

Written By Flapjack MaGurk, Montclair, CA on Wednesday, January 28, 2009

Purchased this head unit on sale for $59.00! Excellent quality when making/taking calls with Bluetooth (I used external mic). I do agree with other reviewers regarding the SD mode, when songs restart from the beginning after being interrupted. It's a pain, albeit a minor one. A bigger concern for me was the lack of a subwoofer out. I have a 3 speaker system in my Jeep (2 front speakers and a subwoofer), powered by a 4 channel amp. I bridged channels 3 & 4 to power the sub, which sends more RMS power to it than to the door speakers. With no dedicated subwoofer out, the sub receives all frequencies at a greater amplification than the door speakers, drowning them out, and does a poor job of reproducing the mids and highs. I've purchased a parametric equalizer with a subwoofer out to hopefully correct this problem, and will install it later this week. If not for the lack of a subwoofer out, I would have given this product a 5 star rating.

Very glad i got it!

Written By Sergiu, Florida on Wednesday, January 28, 2009

Was really lookin forward to gettin a bluetooth stereo for my car and was glad to get this Clarion, best price for a very good product. Pros: Very good bluetooth player and phone connection, external mic comes with it, the lighting patterns do make a difference, nice design, intuitive controls. Cons: faceplate tricky to get back in, only takes SD cards (2GB max), not SDHC, the random function seems a little tricky to work with.
Overall, great addition to any car audio system, would recommend to anybody!

good deck

Written By Jeremiah, North New York State on Wednesday, January 21, 2009

Was glad to see a reputable manufacturer finally ditch the state of the art 1980's compact disk! The track restart every time you turn off and on the deck is the only major down fall, especially when the track is 10 min. Bluetooth work excellent, you don't even need the external mic, the internal mic works so well it fools the caller on the other end, they don't even know they are on speaker phone. the volume control even works in Bluetooth mode. Only wish a better built-in equalizer and subwoofer RCA outputs were available. For the price its an excellent deal, I bought two, one of each color. If only they can get rid of the cords needed for iPOD, maybe in place of a CD slot they can put an iPOD slot behind the face? (There's definitely enough room in the chassis without the CD mechanism, the thing is almost empty) A shorter chassis design would make it easier GM install too.

A HU for the digital age

Written By Jason, Pasadena, CA on Tuesday, December 30, 2008

pro: No hassle SD format, very stylish looks, simple functions, budget friendly

con: Cheap/filmy injection molded plastic, smallish display, no pre-EQ, no AM radio tuner, weak FM tuner, average RMS performance

this is a great little(about couple lb lighter than standard cd player) HU for people who always downloading and updating their music album. The SD format media is straight forward, you just drop the mp3 into folder and they are good to go. Performance wise it's not bad for in the market segment(17 rms) but it sure could use more power as far as function goes.

Good bargain stereo header!

Written By a_laksmana, Marietta, GA on Wednesday, December 24, 2008

RSX base, installation was smooth. I only need to get the wire harness and make sure soldering them correctly to the provided clarion wire. The instruction manual was clear.

I had to use the provided external mic because after testing the quality is better compared to the built in mic in the clarion header. Bluetooth calls are clear and simple. Pairing the phone and stereo header was easy. The sound quality is nice.

Make sure your file is MP3 (it does not read AAC, WMA, etc). To enhance the quality, rip your cd to 256kbps with VBR (variable bit rate highest) and stereo using your itunes. Traversing mp3 folders is easy and very fast! The stereo only reads standard SD up to 2GB (no SDHC, no SDIO). The stereo header could take 320 kbps, but its a waste of space.

I also made use of the aux RCA (white red) and hook it up to an RCA to standard 3.5mm stereo cable if ipod or any standard 3.5mm stereo external player.

Tested bluetooth streaming using a dopod 818 pro playing media player and the sound outstreamed to the clarion header. The sound is good.

I set treble to +3 and the bass to +1 but use the loudness mode on, it feels balanced. I also had to set the fader to +1 to center the sound feel in my car.

Very satisfied with this purchase. A very smart buy, forget about CD players!
