Control your sound from anywhere on the boat

If you've used a regular IR remote for a stereo on your boat, you may have been disappointed. Bright sunlight can make operation problematic, and your range is limited to line-of-sight between the remote and the receiver.

Control your sound from anywhere on the boat

If you've used a regular IR remote for a stereo on your boat, you may have been disappointed. Bright sunlight can make operation problematic, and your range is limited to line-of-sight between the remote and the receiver.

Clarion's MF1 remote gives you the freedom to control your stereo, wherever you are. The RF design uses radio waves to control your Clarion receiver, so you're not limited by the constraints of IR remotes. And it's built for the marine lifestyle too — it's waterproof; salt-, fog-, and UV-resistant; has an integrated clip and lanyard loop, and it even floats if you drop it in the drink.

The MF1 works with a wide variety of Clarion marine receivers (see Details), or any Clarion car receiver with an input for steering wheel remote control adapters.

Q
I got a new MF1 replacement remote and it doesnt work. Does it have to b reprogram or what?
christopher g  Jun 17, 2020
1 answer
A
Yes they do work. No they dont need programed. The receiver plugs into the remote port or the steering wheel port on the head unit. this is my 2nd remote of this kind. I bought one a few years ago for my m505 unit. It worked pretty decent for about a week or 2. The first time it got wet it never worked again. It says water proof but that's a lie. The other issue is there is a lag in response time. I said I wld never buy another one but I had to get a new head unit and the m508 does not have any other remote options so I was forced to buy another one. good luck with it. I still haven't hooked up my new one yet. Still a little bitter from the first one I bought.

Sorry, I don't know. I haven't had an opportunity to install/use my MF1 device.

Q
Can I add an additional Y cable to keep my 2 wires remotes and add this as a 3rd?
eric  Apr 30, 2020
1 answer
A
I haven't actually tried this myself and I would like to look at the schematic before concluding one way or the other. However, the Y adapters do exist and that tells me this would work. I imagine there is a limit somewhere where the resistive load of multiple remotes would cause a problem but my guess that three is OK.

Q
Will the mw1 remote work with a Clarion M508 marine head unit? The M508 has an 8 pin connector for a wired remote that the mw1 rf unit fits into, but the remote won't work.

Q
The M505 is not listed in the compatibility section. Is that an oversight?
jim  Apr 17, 2016

A
It is an oversight. I have submitted a request to get that receiver added to the list of compatible receiver. I hope this helps! My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=101

Q
When replacing the battery does the positive symbol on the battery face up or is it turned upside down? Also should there be a red light on the device? I'm having problems getting my remotes to work again with the same stereo that they once were.

I have not had to replace the battery yet so I am not able to assist with regards to the proper install of the battery. There is a not a light or red light on the device. Once you have resolution, please share in a post.

After installing this remote does it block (make innactive) the remote that comes with the radio? I'm using it with the Clarion M505. Thanks.

I bought this remote but did not use it because I wanted a true wired remote with no wireless link. I don't remember what remote I actually used.
roger  Sep 01, 2015
A
I am not sure. I used it on a cms2 which does not have a remote. But it does have Bluetooth and everthing works fine. No problems.
ronnie  Sep 01, 2015
A
Unsure on the floating remote. However, I have wired remotes. There is a problem with the IR sensor on the deck, as when it is in daylight, all remotes will not work. Clarion admits to the problem, and I was told they are working on a "fix"

No. It comes ready to go right out of the box (if purchased for a compatible model). And by the way this little device is awesome!
david  May 11, 2015
A
No it does not. It finds the source on its own...however, know that it is not a waterproof device. Splash is okay...anything more...not good.
mike  May 11, 2015
A
No it does not.
edward  May 11, 2015
A
No it did not need programming
mark  May 11, 2015
A
As far as I recall it does not need to be programed. It should have listed which clarion radios it will function with, or your radio will have the list to check.
