Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great quality. Nice addition to my system. No owners manual, which probably would not be needed, but the product photos on line @ Crutchfield do not match the unit I received. The owners manual on line, show an electrical connection tab, on the back of the remote. I assumed this was for connection to dash lights. However, the unit received, has no such electrical connection.

Crutchfield response on July 12, 2016 Thanks to Tim's review, one of our product researchers, Stacey, pulled one of these remotes from inventory and discovered that Clarion had removed the electrical contact from this current version. Stacey made sure to update the owner's manual we have online.

Great product!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Extremely easy to install. Great remote features and display is a +++. When M502 head unit is connected to Pandora or Spotify via blue tooth the remote displays all my song titles.

Pros: Easy to install. Display is a plus.

Cons: Whish there was a white and gray color scheme option rather than black and chrome.

Perect design

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This remote is larger than and older model Clarion remote I used, and I like the larger size, The remote has easy to use and see bottons and screen. It's very intuitive, easy to use! It has a back lit screen for night use, which is great. If it's too brite for some you can place a piece of Tinted Solar film over the glass screen.

Pros: Large Size, with easy to use and see buttons, back lit screen for nite use.

Cons: None!

A Good Choice

We installed two of these remotes using the splitter cable, one on the fly bridge the other in the aft cabin, with the Clarion marine radio in the salon. They are wonderful and allow good control over the audio player.

I've got one of these in my boat. Wish I would have added it a long time ago. It's awesome and looks awesome too! I can control my Ipod with it since I have the Ipod cable hooked up. Sit in the water and drink beer and flip thru your music.

Pros: Awesome

Cons: None

Features

Overview: The MW1 is a hardwired remote control with an LCD display, it is compatible with select Clarion marine head units, including CMV1, CMD6, CMD7, CMD8, CMD9, CMS1, CMS5, M303, M309, M502, M505, and M606 (as of 5/18/2016). The MW1 has backlit rubber buttons with the following functions:

  • Power/Source
  • Volume Up/Down
  • Up/Down/Left/Right Cursor buttons
  • Enter
  • Play/Pause/Mute
  • Menu/Band

LCD Display: The display briefly shows the volume when it's changed, and can be set to show the time of day or source information; chapter/track, elapsed time, song title (for iPod and CDs with CD Text), band (AM/FM), frequency, and preset number.

Wiring: The attached 12" cable on the MW1 connects to the back of the head unit. Because the attached cable is only a foot long, in most cases an extension cable will be needed (item number 020MWRXCRT, sold separately). Up to three extension cables can be daisy-chained together.

Note: The MW1 can be used in conjunction with Clarion's MF1 marine RF remote control (020MF1, sold separately). This type of setup requires a proprietary Y-adapter (020MWRYC, sold separately).

Durable: The MW1 meets ASTM B117 salt/fog exposure and ASTM D4329 UV exposure standards.

Flush Mount: The remote comes with an aluminum flush mount C-clamp. The clamp attaches to the two M4 machine screw studs on the back of the remote and holds it in place.

Edward, I am not familiar with the M606. I am not able to confirm. [ JEFFREY  May 16, 2016 ]
I'm not sure. You have to check how many pins are on the output on the radio. [ Michael  Apr 11, 2016 ]
Yes it will work fine with the M303. I would however suggest to also look at the MF1 handheld remote which works very well. [ Chris  Apr 11, 2016 ]
I get that part. How big is the mounting hole? Does it need to be grounded? I'd really like to see the installation instructions before I buy it. Can't seem to find them anywhere. [ Stingrayaxe  Nov 15, 2015 ]
IF the remote is compatible its plug and play. [ RICK T  Nov 15, 2015 ]
I have not seen any major changes though I do know a few people that had these and had minor issues with fogging. Is this on the transom and if so does it see too much water? Ours is under a hardtop so humidity and quick wash down is all it sees. Maybe take a look at mounting to see if it's all sealed properly etc. my buddies transom mount he ran a bead of caulk around the outside to keep water penetration to a minimum. Hope I helped. [ SCOTT  May 17, 2015 ]
I have one that has been installed on the navigation station for 2 + years with no problems. The navigation station is located under a Bimini. [ THOMAS  May 17, 2015 ]
Thanks guys. I know a lot of the remotes only have the one big wire coming out of the back, but some people I have talked to have an extra terminal in the back (including ones on other sites). I was hoping to find some input on if the terminal is for the brightness (my old clarion remote had one). I want to buy it from Crutchfield along with everything else though, but they still have not been able to tell me why it's there and why theirs doesn't have it. The issue is because of how bright the glare is when boating down the river at night. Thanks again for your replies. [ Joe  May 05, 2014 ]
Hello, the MW1 has only the one main wire out the back that plugs directly in to the clarion head unit. There is no extra terminal for display brightness. If it helps, my MW1 is mounted on the outside of my boat right at the swim platform and it has the perfect amount of backlighting. I have no trouble seeing the display in any light. Rick [ RICHARD G  May 05, 2014 ]
Joe, the 1 I bought recently only has a single plug out. Not sure what u mean about the brightness [ SCOTT  May 04, 2014 ]
