Clarion RCB-199

Overview

Our take on the Clarion RCB-199

Your Clarion in-dash receiver features built-in Bluetooth, but your callers keep asking you to repeat yourself. That's because your receiver's built-in microphone may not be effective in some problem vehicles. Connect this noise-canceling microphone to your Clarion's mic input, use its visor mount to place it in a good spot, and they'll hear you loud and clear. Warranty: 1 year.

What's in the Box:

 • Microphone (with attached 13.25' cable terminated by a right-angle 3.5mm connector)
 • Mounting bracket (installed)
 • 4 Self-adhesive cable clips

Hard to Say

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Its hard to rate this mic because it is a replacement for a mic that came with a deck I already have. I will say it did have a slight improvement over the original name OEM brand mic.

Pros: Long Cable , industry standard connector

Cons:

Disappointed

Don't Skip this When Ordering Clarion BT Head Unit

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This makes the Bluetooth feature on my Clarion VX401 work. Period. Nobody complains anymore that it sounds bad. Easy to install and durable. Too bad it doesn't come with the radio because it absolutely needs this to work well. Just found out that my unit is no longer available for sale.

Pros: Sounds terrific to the people you're calling.

Cons: Have to pay extra for it.

Great to have...

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Works great but seems to pickup a bit more background noise than it should. Could be my fault though... 400HP V8 with Magnaflow exhaust.

Pros: Hands free!

Cons: Wish it could cancel backgound noise better...

RCB-199 and NX501 Headunit

Written by: Angelo from Tampa, FL on December 22, 2011

I waited to install the mic for 8 mos because I was waiting to buy the HD tuner and install both at the same time. Well the mic has so much static at any setting the other end cant hear you at all. After some research on the internet I found out that Clarion techs have confirmed the mic doesn't work in the NX501 and from what I read its a hardware issue so a software update most likely wont work. Maybe later units will work but I bought this head unit when it first came out in Feb of 2011. So I cant return the mic because of it being so long ago of an order. I also tried using a different mic to test with so now I definetly know its an issue because of the headunit. So if you buy this mic for an NX501 test it immedietly so you can return it if need be.

Pros: nothing

Cons: Doesn't work with the Clarion NX501
[Editor's Note: Thanks for your comments. We asked Clarion about this and received the following message from their technical services manager: "We have tested the RCB199 with the NX501 and it does work. This customer may have connected the RCB199 into the SWI jack (steering wheel interface jack) instead of the microphone jack."]

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For the price it is just OK...it functions. However, if you are going highway speeds, even with windows up, AC on a low setting and not much external noise, people on the other end of the line still have a lot of trouble hearing you. ALmost every time I have used it, I have to switch to handset which defeats the purpose of having blue tooth.

Features

Overview: The Clarion RCB-199 is an external microphone which can be connected to a Clarion or other aftermarket head unit with built-in Bluetooth that features a 3.5mm microphone input. The RCB-199 external microphone provides better performance in noisy environments than the integrated microphone found on the front-panel of some Bluetooth-enabled head unit.

3.5mm Connector: The microphone features an attached 13.25' cord terminated by a right-angle male 3.5mm connector which plugs into the microphone input on the rear-chassis of your compatible Clarion or aftermarket head unit.

Mounting Bracket: The microphone also features an integrated sun-visor clip for mounting the external microphone in your vehicle. The integrated bracket allows the microphone to swivel left-to-right and rotate up-or-down.

Customer Q&A

1 question already asked

It's a standard plug. Shouldn't be a problem. [ CHRISTOPHER Jul 15, 2014 ]
I do not know because I havd it connected to my clarion vz401 head unit for an external mic for blue tooth. [ JUSTIN Jul 15, 2014 ]
its standard phone mic for a car radio [ ANTONIO Jul 15, 2014 ]
Not sure about that. I would look up the specs on the clarion mic, sensitivity etc. and then find a mic recommended for that computer and compare them. Hope that helps. [ JOHN T Jul 14, 2014 ]
