SIRIUS

Our take on the Clarion SIRPNP

Want to enjoy the incredible programming of SIRIUS satellite radio in the car and at home — without paying two subscription fees? Clarion makes it easy with the flexible SIRPNP plug-and-play tuner. This ultra-compact tuner works with its companion home and car kits to give you SIRIUS reception just about anywhere. The display keeps you up to date with song and channel info. Plus, you can program up to 30 of your favorites for rapid access! (You can also lock out certain channels, just in case.)

To use the SIRPNP tuner, you must purchase a compatible kit. The kits have everything needed to connect the tuner to your preferred stereo — you'll need to get at least one for operation. Get both a car and home kit, and you'll have SIRIUS in both places, but only pay one subscription. There are two kits available (each includes a SIRIUS antenna, docking station, and power supply):

SIRIUS offers more than 120 channels of top-notch entertainment for just $12.95 per month. Check out 65 channels of totally commercial-free music, which feature an incredible variety of songs from a wide range of genres. You'll also get more than 50 channels of news, talk, and entertainment, plus exclusive sports coverage, including broadcasts of nationwide college sporting events, and the entire NFL every week during football season. (Satellite radio service is available only within the lower 48 states — not available in Alaska, Hawaii, or U.S. territories.) Subscribers can also take advantage of free online streaming of all SIRIUS music.

Features

Overview: This package includes the SIRPNP SIRIUS Plug and Play receiver and a wireless remote control only. To use the Plug and Play receiver, you must purchase an accompanying kit. The kits allow you to hook the receiver up to your car or home stereo system, and include everything you need to receive the SIRIUS signal. In addition to one of the following kits, a subscription to SIRIUS Satellite Radio is also required:

  • SIRCR (item #020SIRCR): car kit with both wireless FM transmitter and RCA patch cable. For a car receiver that doesn't have auxiliary inputs, the wireless FM transmitter can be used. The RCA patch cable is supplied for use with a car receiver that has auxiliary inputs.
    • Note: When using the wireless FM transmitter, the FM frequency is chosen through the receiver's menu.
  • SIRHM (item #020SIRHM): the home kit

SIRIUS Satellite Radio: SIRIUS Satellite Radio features up to 100 streams of original programming beamed coast-to-coast, including 60 streams of commercial-free, digital-quality music, and 40 streams of news, talk, sports, entertainment, and children's programming.

Note: Satellite radio service is available only within the continental United States. Service is not available in Alaska and Hawaii.

Display: The Plug and Play receiver has a large backlit LCD screen. You can choose one of two ways to present the Artist and Song title information on the LCD screen. The Default screen displays the following information: stream name, stream number, artist, song title, category title, band/preset number, time of day, and signal strength indicator. When the Display button is pressed, the display shows the artist's name and song title in a single line of large scrolling text.

Display Adjustments: You can manually adjust the display's contrast and dimming controls for best viewing. You can also choose the Font type used in the text display, as well as the color of the key LED and LCD backlighting.

Stream Selection: You can select music or program streams numerous ways:

  • Normal Operation: Using the encoder knob on the unit or the channel buttons on the remote, you can tune each stream one at a time.
  • Presets: You can store up to 30 of your favorite streams as presets for quick access. Presets are stored in 3 banks, each containing 10 stream presets. You can either tune the presets one at a time, or select the preset list and highlight the desired preset stream to select.
  • Category Selection: Using the category buttons on the unit or remote, you can select one of the SIRIUS Music Categories or SIRIUS Entertainment categories. As you highlight the category, the streams under that category are listed, allowing you to select the stream you're looking for.
  • Artist List: The Artist List screen shows all available artists regardless of category. You can use the encoder knob or channel buttons to move through the list until the desired artist is highlighted.
  • Stream List: The Stream List screen shows all available songs regardless of category. You can use the encoder knob or channel buttons to move through the list until the desired stream is highlighted.
  • Direct Tuning: Using the numeric buttons on the tuner or the remote, you can directly access SIRIUS channels.

Memory Function: This feature allows you to capture and store the current program data information, including the artist name and song title. You can store program data information for up to 20 songs. The Plug and Play receiver also has the capability to search the current incoming SIRIUS signal, and alert you if it matches the program data information stored in memory.

Skip/Add: You can select a seldom-tuned stream to be "skipped", if desired. This prevents the stream from being accessible during any of the tuning modes (except direct tuning). A skipped stream can be re-added using the same menu.

Stream Lock: You can lock a stream, making it only available during direct tuning. When a locked stream is direct tuned, you will need to enter a 4-digit code before the stream can be heard.

Antenna Strength: You can check the strength of the SIRIUS satellite signal being received. When locating the antenna in your home, you should place the antenna in a spot that illuminates the maximum number of bars on the meter.

Audio Output Level: You can adjust the level of the audio output to match the other sources in your audio system.

Time-Based Functions: The Plug and Play receiver has a built-in clock with the time data provided by the SIRIUS stream. The clock options can be set for 12-hour or 24-hour operation, time zone and observance of Daylight Saving Time. Once the clock data is set, you can activate the following functions:

  • Alarm Clock: The built-in alarm clock can be set to turn on the unit at a specific time.
  • Program Alert: The Program Alert function allows you to program the unit to turn on and switch to a selected stream at a specific time.
  • Auto Shutdown: The unit can be set to automatically shut off after a one-hour period without any user intervention. After 59 minutes of inactivity, a display prompt appears on the screen allowing you the option of canceling auto shutdown.
  • Sleep Mode: You can program the receiver to shut off after a selected period of time. You can select one of the following sleep time settings: 15, 30, 45, or 60 minutes.

Factory Default: To revert back to the original receiver settings all at once, you can activate the factory default screen.

Remote Control: The supplied remote gives you access to all the controls that are on the tuner's front panel, as well as audio mute.
