Bring out the best in your audio system with Yamaha's A-S1000 integrated amplifier. Its sophisticated design ensures true-to-life, transparent sound — from a vocalist's subtle intake of breath before she sings, to the punchy thump of a kick drum. And it offers plenty of power too, delivering 90 full-bandwidth-rated watts to each of your stereo speakers — you'll enjoy clean, undistorted audio, even during your music's most demanding passages. Wide-range frequency response lets you experience all the details on your LPs, CDs, and even high-resolution SACDs and DVD-Audio discs in stereo mode.

Exceptionally clean, pure sound
The A-S1000 employs many of the same high-end features as the top-of-the-line A-S2000, including Yamaha's unique power amplifier design. It isolates the "plus" and "minus" sides of each channel, ensuring exceptionally clean, pure sound with minimal levels of noise and distortion. This amp is also a great choice for record lovers — it can handle signals from MM (moving magnet) cartridges, as well as from more demanding MC (moving coil) cartridges.

Use tone controls without sacrificing audio quality
Many amps offer direct modes that let you bypass tone control circuitry for optimum sound quality. But you don't have to choose between audio quality and properly balanced sound with the A-S1000. Its volume and tone controls are wired in parallel — this allows you to adjust treble and bass to your liking, without muddying your music.

A strong, vibration-resistant build
This integrated amplifier boasts a thoughtful, rock-solid design. Yamaha organized the left and right channels into a straight, symmetrical layout, keeping the signal path short and the sound clean. High-end internal components — such as extruded aluminum heat sinks and custom-made capacitors — allow the A-S1000 to handle demanding passages effortlessly. An anti-resonant base, rigid center bar, and height-adjustable steel feet provide a sturdy, vibration-resistant foundation.

Connections and convenience
This integrated amp offers enough inputs to connect six audio components, including a turntable. Two sets of main speaker outputs let you connect an additional pair of speakers. Separate preamp input/line-level output jacks allow you to use the A-S1000 as an independent power amplifier or preamp for future system expansion. And the included remote gives you easy control of the amplifier and the other Yamaha audio components in your system.

Everything you always wanted in a stereo receiver, except the radio

An integrated amplifier is essentially a receiver without a built-in AM/FM tuner. You get power to drive your speakers, audio controls, and inputs for music source components. Connect an iPod, a computer, a network music player, or any other device that can play Internet radio, and you may find you have no need for an AM/FM radio.

Audio Features

Overview: The Yamaha A-S1000 Integrated Stereo Amplifier features a built-in two-channel amplifier with A & B speaker outputs and six analog inputs.

Floating Balanced Circuit Design: The perfectly symmetrical, fully new floating balanced power amplifier maximizes the performance of the analog amplifier by reducing distortion and noise.

Independent Power Supplies: The stereo amplifier features four independent high-capacity power supplies.

Aluminum Front-Panel and Heavyweight Feet: The A-S1000 features an aluminum front-panel and newly developed heavyweight feet to suppress vibrations. The foot-height of the unit is adjustable.

ToP-ART/High Current Amplification: Yamaha uses the ToP-ART (Total Purity Audio Reproduction Technology) design concept, which combines the latest and best technologies, parts, and circuit designs, to maximize sound quality. High Current Amplification uses superior quality components from input to output to achieve high current power with low impedance.

High Current Stereo Amplifier: The Yamaha A-S1000 features a highly dynamic, powerful stereo amplifier with low impedance drive capability. The stereo amplifier is rated at 90 watts x 2-channel at 20-20kHz, in 8-ohms with 0.02% THD; 105 watts x 2-channel at 20-20kHz, in 6-ohm with 0.02% THD; and 140 watts x 2-channel at 20-20kHz, in 4-ohm with 0.02% THD.

Triple Parallel Electronic Volume and Tone Controls: The Yamaha A-S1000 is equipped with triple parallel electronic volume and tone controls. The stereo amplifier features independent bass (50Hz) and treble (20kHz) controls so you can increase or decrease the low and high frequency response (+/-9dB).

Note: The volume and tone controls do not effect the amplifiers Main Direct Input or Record Output.

Balance: You can adjust the sound output balance of the left and right speakers connected to the amplifier.

Audio Mute: The Audio Mute function reduce the current volume level by approximately 20 dB.

Speaker Selector: The Speaker Selector switch allows you to select only A speakers, only B speakers, A+B speakers, or no speakers; so you can control which speakers are playing.

Remote Control

Remote Control: The integrated amplifier comes supplied with an IR remote control for wireless operation of the unit. The remote control can also be used to control select Yamaha audio components such as a CD player or AM/FM tuner. The remote has a range of 20 feet at an angle of 30-degrees left-to-right of the unit's front-panel IR sensor.

Analog Inputs/Outputs: The Yamaha A-S1000 integrated stereo amplifier is equipped with six analog RCA stereo inputs for connecting an external audio source such as a CD player, AM/FM tuner, Turntable, and/or cassette deck; as well a preamp or AV receiver. There is also one analog RCA stereo output for recording through the amplifier.

Note: The unit's Phono input also features a ground terminal and is designed to connect a turntable with an MM or MC cartridge.

Main Direct Input: One of the A-S1000's analog inputs is labeled Main Direct Input. This input allows you to connect your preamplifier or AV receiver directly to the A-S1000 and use the Yamaha stereo amplifier as a power amplifier to drive a pair of speakers in your system.

Note: Audio signal coming into the amplifier's Main Direct Input is only output through the speaker outputs of the A-S1000. No audio signal will by output from the stereo amplifier's Pre-Out, Rec Out, or Headphone Output.

Pre-Out: The Yamaha integrated stereo amplifier is equipped with a stereo preamp output for connecting a powered subwoofer or to use the A-S1000 as a preamplifier and connect it to a larger power amplifier to power your speakers.

Speaker Outputs: The Yamaha stereo amplifier features gold-plated binding post terminals for its A & B speaker outputs. The speaker outputs are color-coded for easy connection. You can use the A & B speaker outputs to power two pair of separate speakers or you can bi-wire a single pair of speakers.

Note: If you use two sets (A and B) of speaker, the impedance of each speaker must be 8-ohm or higher. When only using on set of speakers (A or B), use speakers with an impedance of 4-ohm or higher.

Headphone Output: The A-S1000 integrated amplifier is equipped with a front-panel 1/4" headphone output for connecting a pair of headphones (sold separately). Once a set of headphones are connected, the amplifier's speaker outputs mute automatically.

Note: The headphones do not function for the amplifier Main Direct Input.

Yamaha A-S 1000

Written By dgb, Pennsylvania on Friday, March 27, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Wonderfully detailed and pure sounding amp with plenty of power delivered without any drama. The unit is absolutely silent allowing fine minutiae of the music to reveal itself and the timbre of vocals and instruments is disarmingly natural and rich inviting you to listen for hours and hours. The build is akin to a battleship, heavy, solid, and functional, knobs and switches are reassuringly firm. Remote is attractive, minimalistic, and does what it needs to do. At $1,299 you get a very high performing 2 channel integrated amp, nothing extraneous, no waste, it is a single mission product that delivers way above its price. Replaced a late 80s Nakamichi STASIS amplifier which is/was highly regarded and, surprisingly, knocked it off my rack after 20 years. The Nakamichi had resisted challenges from a number of potential replacements.

Pros: Engaging, natural sound, zero fatigue, plenty of power (have Golden Ear Triton Two), big soundstage with minute detail and precision imaging. There is no harsh, even passages that have made me cringe in the past have been tamed by this amp. Heavy, well built, does one thing and does it great.

Cons: The only one thing I would have liked is a small light to indicate the volume level on the knob.

Beauty and the Beast!

This integrated amplifier is a dream and a Great value- just what I was looking for. Build quality is as good, if not better than, gear costing twice as much or more. It weighs a 48.5 pounds, which is deceiving since it doesn't look all that large from the front- it is as deep as it is wide, so it requires a deep rack or shelf, or it will stick out over the front edge. It is easy to use and sounds amazing, making an excellent team with my Arcam irDAC D/A converter and Focal Chorus 816V speakers. The bass and treble controls are genius! When they are centered, you can hear relays switching it to "source direct", taking the tone controls out of the circuit without the need for a source direct switch. The mute switch is implemented better than any other I've seen. Build quality is terrific and rivals gear costing twice as much if not more. If you don't need XLR connections, you would be just fine with the A-S1000 without having to spend more on the A-S2000. The power supplies between them are identical, for example. Bass is more weighty than my old amplifier, which is a Denon POA-8200 (a very nice two-channel, dual-mono amp which is no slouch). What more can I say- awesome sound, great build, great looks (to me), easy to use!

Pros: Tons of Real power and built like a tank (doesn't LOOK that much larger than a typical, say, CD player from the front, but it is 48.5 pounds and Heavy). Doesn't even get very hot, but my Focal Chorus 816V speakers are 8 ohm and fairly easy to drive. Excellent ergonomics and easy to use. Has a MM/MC phono switch. I love its classic styling too. Awesome sound quality. Comparable gear from others would probably cost twice as much. I wouldn't bother trading this rig for anything- this is a keeper!

Cons: Depth of unit may be an issue as it is as deep as it is wide, and could stick out the front of your rack if it is not deep enough. AC power cord seemed too thin for my tastes (I'm sure it is perfectly fine safety wise, of course, since it came with the unit), but I upgraded the AC power cord to a Shunyata Venom HC. No tiny LED light on volume control so it is hard to see where it is set (the old Sony ES integrated amps back in the day had tiny LED's on the volume control, for example).

Yamaha Integrated Amp A S1000

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Excellent build quality and superb sound. Rivals all of my older 70's and 80's high quality amps/receivers in side by side comparisons. This amp was meant to replace my aging Yamaha 2020 Receiver for a satellite system, but I was so impressed that I moved it to my main system and enjoy it every day. I am very pleased with the unit in every way. Nice to see that Yamaha has returned to offering a higher end product line.

Pros: High quality, excellent build, good fit and finish. Plenty of power

Cons: Would have preferred silver face, but it appears to no longer be available.

Best performance to cost value in the market.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For me, this integrated Yamaha amplifier produces powerful and detailed sound through my Martin Logan stereo setup. It connects easily to my turntable, but I use it most often with a ps audio DAC connected through coaxial to a Sonos Connect as my audio server. It is also connected to an fm/am NAD tuner which also produces awesome sound on the Yamaha a-s1000. I could not be happier for the price compared to functionality amd performance. In my listening i would have needed to spend about twice as much or more to get a what I felt was any noticeable difference using my other components. It's been almost two years since I purchased this amplifier. At the time of purchase I was looking for a high value integrated stereo amp to keep my system simple but detailed and powerful. I almost bought a NAD reference, but in the end budget was a factor and I made the decision to get the Yamaha because it met all of my needs an still produced excellent sound. I have never once regretted the Yamaha. It will always have a purpose in my home or office.

Pros: Powerful detailed sound, quality of build, heavy, good looking, functional basic controls on face plate and remote.

Cons: Volume knob is a little loose. Generic flimsy power cord.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was not finding myself pleased with most amps under $3500, but didnt have that amount available. After reading some reviews decided to try the Yamaha as1000 as it's sheer weight difference with the AS 700 signaled it was obviously the beginning of serious quality upgrades in the Yamaha line-up. The unit is beautiful, and the sound was beautiful in terms of timbre. Not just voices, but violins sounded like violins, voices like voices I had heard live, and the difficult sound of piano was like a piano. I felt it was lacking for me in two areas: first, dynamic drive and pace, where with certain music it felt slow, and second, the ability to layer soundstage as I had heard in more expensive amps. I must add however that I picked up a used but near new NAD 375bee to replace it. The NAD is famous for its warm tone, has more power, and the 375 does have more drive and pace, so all should be perfect. It is not. The NAD to my ears is hard sounding compared to the amazing tonal accuracy of the Yamaha. I had returned the Yamaha, and kudos to Crutchfield for their superb service, but I am finding that I in retrospect miss the beauty of the Yamaha more than I am grateful for the improved pace of the NAD. Don't know if I will spend more in attempt to "get it all" yet, but am aware at this price you don't get everything. The Yamaha does however offer beauty and musicality. I am running Harbeth speakers, so they are not sterile, but are nevertheless revealing. Very nice amp.

Pros: Exceptional beauty and purity of tone, exceptional build quality. I think quibbles about quality of knobs must be references to lower models. Rear binding posts are gorgeous.

Cons: Lacks drive and grip in absolute terms that can make it sound slow on certain recordings of rock, jazz, things that need drive. Not terrible in these areas, just not at same level as the rest of the sound. Main caveat is that even recognizing these slight weaknesses, I find myself missing this amp.

Good . . . .but . . . .

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

There's no doubting the high quality of the design, aesthetics, and sound of this extraordinary amplifier. My only objection concerns the ironically few inputs on the rear panel--an engineering drawback which I've awkwardly gotten around by resorting to television switching boxes with four or so extra inputs, etc.

Pros: It's natural beauty and divine sound.

Cons: Why so few inputs on back?

Landmark audiophile quality with superb attention to detail and intuit

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The beauty of this integrated amplifier extends across multiple dimensions. Physically the design is elegant, with apparent interest in ease of operation core in the mind of the designers. It weighs in at a hefty 48 pounds which is indicative of the massive transformers enclosed in its elegant casing. Upon setting this up for the first time in my home and playing the first songs a grin of total exuberance came across my face-the sound was an audio experience to behold. While a long-time holder of an upper mid-end Adcom system from circa 1990 I was unprepared for the detail, dimensionality and sound staging offer by this beauty. Without so much as a full warm up or 100 hour break-in I was hearing sounds I never before perceived in my music. Strings sounded present, vocals perfectly balanced, bass rich and deep but not booming, and beautiful crisp highs with no harshness-pure delight. A spatial sense of depth, width and presence left me in awe for hours with no listening fatigue. Thanks Yamaha for creating a work of excellence for Hi-Fi buffs with no interest in cluttered menus, multiple channels or other AV functions-every penny of this product is directed at maximum audio performance that rivals equipment costing multiples of this masterpiece. This integrated amplifier receives my highest regard--Get this one while you can, it is a keeper.

Pros: High performance, audiophile quality, completely ergonomic, looks, feels and works as if no expense was spared.

Cons: Beware it is about 3 inches deeper than most other units and may be tough to fit into some cabinets.

This unit might cost more if produce by others small manafacturer,

Pros: This unit is very good, have enough power to drive my THIEl speakers, highly recommended for anyone like details music, simple stereo system, there are a big different in sound coming out of this unit than many others all in one receivers, I could hear the high, mid, bass, very clear, when it come to selecting audio equipments, the heavier the unit weight the better, and this unit is very heavy. You know that yamaha use high quality parts in this unit.

Cons: Nothing that I didn't like about this unit
